Chapter Two, Part IV - Chance Meeting

The female vampire said sweetly, pointing at the unconscious man still lying on the ground. Her two minions snickered. They found her comment hilarious. To think that he was 'gay'.

The silver-haired man didn't rise to the bait. In fact, he didn't even blink at the insult thrown at him. His only reaction was to shed the human illusion and appear in his youkai form before he told them calmly:

"No. He's my brother,"

That was all the warning they got before he proceeded to annihilate them into pieces. Kagome's eyes widened in disbelief as she saw him move faster than the vampires. And vampires were way too fast, believe you her.

The first vampire he dealt with didn't even have the chance to try and run as he sliced it to chunks with his claws dripping in green substance (wait, was that poison?). His emotionless expression never faltered as he shook his hand free of dust before looking at the now obviously terrified vampires shaking in their shoes.

"You are unfit to sully my hands, much more for me to draw my sword. Pathetic creatures,"

Now his voice carried his disgust, his intentions clear. The male vampire valiantly held his ground as he told his mistress to flee. The words weren't even completely out of his mouth before he was gutted like a fish, turning to dust within seconds. The female vampire was already on the move. If she believed that there's a God, she'd now be praying fervently for her safe escape and her life. But God would have to disappoint her.

He effortlessly caught her even though she's covered considerable ground. He held her throat in his hand and slammed her hard against one of the trees; so hard that she was afraid both her and the tree would break. Her frightened eyes focused on him for the first time since he changed.

A crescent moon was tattooed on his forehead, his golden eyes glinting dangerously in the moonlight. Purple stripes were permanently marked across both cheeks, a sign of his heritage. His long, silver mane was unbound now and he sported a pelt of sorts in his shoulder. He was terrifyingly beautiful.

"What is your name?"

She had to choke out her answer.

"L-lai... L-lai-ka,"

Recognition dawned in his eyes.

"I will spare you, Laika, to deliver a message for me,"

She nodded her head eagerly, despite the pain it caused her to move against his hold. Anything for her life.

"Tell your brother to stay the hell away from my land. The next time you step anywhere near the Western Lands will be your last. This Sesshomaru isn't someone to be trifled with,"

Laika's eyes widened in true horror as she discovered who she was up against.

The Lord of the Western Lands.

The Great Inu Taiyoukai.

'Sesshomaru-sama'.

If he told her to lick his feet at that moment, she would do it. Anything to save her from his wrath. His reputation was widely known. And he was not a very forgiving demon.

Apologies tumbled incoherently from her mouth, begging his forgiveness. If she could've knelt she would have just to save her hide.

"And one more thing,"

"Anything, my lord. Anything you desire,"

He slammed her again on the tree, this time succeeding in breaking her spine. Laika howled in pain, the sound echoing around them. But she didn't have time to focus on her pain as Sesshomaru grabbed her hair and dragged her face up to look at him. The look in his face would have stopped her heart. It was a good thing it was no longer beating.

"If anyone else goes after this Sesshomaru's brother[or the miko[his or her life is forfeit. Do we understand each other?"

Sesshomaru waited for her agreement before he let go of her, Laika crumpling to the ground in a quivering heap, not able to move with her injury. Sesshomaru left her there to fend for herself, not even looking back. He knew her kind will find her; she was too valuable. Being the sister to the vampire 'king' had its' merit.

He now occupied himself to returning to his brother... and Kagome. His brother's mate was truly a surprise. How she managed to stay alive as long as she had with Laika on her back, he had no idea. But he would get the details later. Right now, his brother has to be taken care of.

He returned to the clearing to find Kagome already working on his brother. A bright, pink aura surrounded her as she healed Inuyasha. Sesshomaru knew of her 'gift' already; it was one of the things that made him hire her. That, and that she was his sister-in-law. Technically speaking.

She didn't even look up when he landed near them; she probably sensed his aura and knew it was him.

"How is he?"

"He's fine. Recovering slowly but surely. I'd like to speed up the healing process, but the way I am now, I'd probably kill us both. How come you're trusting me with him?"

Sesshomaru understood her question, and he smiled a little as he glimpsed this new 'side' to her. She was never this assertive in the past.
