Chapter Nine
Kagome shifted nervously from her position, she had been held captive in Emmett's lap, in his hug for the past hour now. Of course, she wasn't complaining, in fact she enjoyed being this close to the man who's lap she was currently sitting on.
But said man, also felt like marble, and marble was never fun to sit on for long periods on time. Sighing lightly, she cleared her throat, gaining Emmett's attention.
"Hm?" he questioned lightly, as he buried his face into the base of her neck, shifting her hair out of the way as he did so.
The motion caused her to blush, Kagome cursed herself mentally, why must she have such a virgin mind to get so bothered over something so simple along with wondering what brought on the sudden motion of affection from Emmett.
She remained quiet for a few moments, as she tried in vain to get her heart rate down, when she finally felt satisfied she spoke. " Can you please let me go Emmett?" she questioned lightly.
He slowly released her hold from him, Kagome got up and out of the bed quickly, mainly due to embarrassment. When she looked down at the bed however, she instantly felt bad for her actions and choice of words.
Emmett sat in the same position, his arms hanging loosely to the side of his body, as his facial expression took on that of a person who had just lost something important to them. Kagome laid her hand on his shoulder, gaining his attention.
"Sorry Emmett, its not that I didn't like that position..I did, its just that." she blushed as her words registered in her own mind, along with the smirk on his face.
Huffing in annoyance she continued, "I wanted to get up, and don't look me like that! You don't know me!" huffing again she left the room in a hurry, hoping to keep any dignity that remained as she went towards the bathroom to wash up, and hopefully lighten that fever that she had suddenly taken on.
Inside the room, Emmett laughed lightly. Shaking his head, he rose from the bed and straightened out his clothing. Leaving his room, he stopped by the bathroom Kagome was in and knocked on the door lightly. "I'm going to go downstairs and tell everyone that you are awake. Come down when you ready"
Kagome's answer was a muffled , from the door and the sound of running water. Emmett shrugged his shoulders, turning away from the door, he made his way downstairs and into the backyard where he heard everyone talking amongst themselves.
He let his body rest against the entryway, waiting for his family, and the others to notice that he was there. It was only a few seconds later when Landon turned to face him. He looked at him curiously, before smirking lightly.
"So, you finally decided to grace your presence among the living?" he questioned, Landon's eyes squinted as he thought over the last words of his sentence, he chuckled lightly "Well sort-of living that is"he mumbled.
Emmett smiled, "Yes, so has your daughter"
That got everyone's attention, they all looked at him curiously, seeing the questionable looks he was getting, he added. "She is cleaning up before she comes down to talk to you guys."
Before he could say anymore, a familiar face was about an inch away from his own, glaring at him with golden eyes. "What do you mean freshening up?, what would she have to freshen up from?" Landon questioned with an accusing voice.
Emmett rose his hands in mock surrender, "Well..you did conceive a child before Landon. So I'm sure you know what would cause a person to become all sweaty and dirty" he replied with a wink, before quickly distancing himself from the man.
Emmett shrugged in response to Landon's glare, before turning his attention towards the door, as he heard footsteps approach.

Kagome sighed in relief as she heard Emmett step away from the door, running her hands under the cool water of the sink faucet, gathering the water in her hands she splashed her face with it.
Sighing again Kagome looked at her reflection in the mirror, glad that the myth of vampires not appearing in them was just that, a myth.
Shaking her head, she smoothed out her clothing, while fixing her ponytail. After a few minutes of stalling she shrugged, "Well, I don't look bad for almost dying and sleeping for sometime."
she mentally chuckled at that, she never worried about her appearance before so why the sudden change, she had no clue. An image of Emmett popped into her mind, making her face heat up once again.
Once the blush went away, Kagome decided that she had spent enough time stalling. Taking a deep breath she opened the bathroom door, and began walking down the stairs.
Looking around the living room and noticing that no one was in there she frowned. She had thought that they would have been there, feeling a light breeze coming from the other room, she lightly shivered.
Curiosity getting the better of her, she followed the direction the breeze was coming from. She stopped in her pursuit, as she heard voices coming from the open door.
Ah so that's where they are.She thought with relief, she really wanted to see everyone and thank them properly.
When she got at the door however, the conversation wasn't exactly one she wanted to hear, and she felt her face heat up lightly, making her wonder if maybe she had caught a cold.
Shaking her head at her father's protective nature she decided to make her presence known before he really let the 'papa bear' in him, come out.
"Dad please, why do you always think things like that? Emmett don't encourage my fathers paranoid mind" Kagome stated, as she looked at both men with annoyed expression, before waving at the others.
"My baby!" Landon exclaimed, before running towards Kagome and picking her up into his arms, and twirling her around. Ignoring the fact that he had just been getting scolded from his 'baby'
Kagome blushed at the treatment, before smacked his arm lightly. "Dad, stop. Please?" she questioned quietly. Her father sighed, but put her back onto the floor.
Kagome looked at the Cullen family once more, and her blush deepened when she saw they were all looking at her with amusement. She cleared her throat nervously, "So, how about those Lakers?" she questioned.
Landon took his previous seat, and shrugged his shoulders. "I dunno, I'm not a big fan of golf." he replied with a smirk.
Kagome giggled lightly, before she began moving forward, hoping to get a seat. She was stopped however, as she was pulled into the lap of her father. She huffed, crossing her arms before her chest. "What's with people, and making me sit on their laps today?" she questioned, annoyance evident in her voice.
Her father looked at her curiously, along with everyone else aside from Emmett. "Who else had you sit on their lap?" her father questioned.
Kagome chuckled nervously, "What?" she questioned.
Landon shook his head, "Never mind, so what are we going to do now?" he questioned, the question was for everyone, anyone that wanted to answer.
Carlisle hummed lightly from his position, as he thought it over, "What else to do? Why don't we just live as we were before this incident"
The rest of the family nodded, before breaking off into their own conversations. Kagome thankfully got out of her father's grasp, only to be taken into another one. Glaring at the one who caught her, she looked into the amused eyes of the man that always seemed to be on her thoughts lately.
"What is it Emmett?" she questioned curiously.
He chuckled, "Follow me"
Taking her hand, and motioning for her to be quiet Emmett lead her out of the room and to the garage where he ushered her into the car.
Soon he climbed in beside her and started to engine, before driving off. Leaving Kagome wondering what was coming next, as she sat beside him quietly in the car.
* * *
Kagome looked at the passing scenery intently, as she tried to make the trees into actual objects, instead of just passing green. The ride so far had been spent in silence, leaving Kagome to her own thoughts. Not that she didn't mind.
She had to admit, since coming to Forks with her father, things definitely haven't been boring. Looking at the man beside her from the corner of her eyes, Kagome smiled. She had enjoyed getting to know Emmett more.
She really did like being in his company, it made her feel happy. It may just be that he was always more on the positive side. That thought made her frown lightly, he wasn't always on the positive side. She remembered when his ex wife had come back to town, Emmett hadn't been to excitied to see her.
Kagome sighed lightly, as she continued looking at the passing scenery, she still had no clue where they were going.
"What's wrong?" Emmett questioned, as he looked at her for a moment before looking back at the road.
Kagome shrugged, "Nothing, I'm just thinking"
Emmett hummed as he nodded his head, "Ah, well thats not good. Don't hurt yourself." he replied with a smirk.
Kagome shook her heard, hiding a smile behind her hand. It was then she noticed that the car had stopped, she looked at Emmett curiously. "Where are we?"
Emmett smiled, "We are going hunting"
Kagome rose a brow at that, "Why did I have to be quiet then"
Emmett laughed lightly, "That's easy, I didn't want anyone else to come, that would take my time away from you"
Kagome blushed once more, cursing Emmett as he got out of the car. Sighing, she got out and followed after him. When she was finally beside him, she looked at him curiously. "So what are you going after?" she questioned.
Emmett shrugged, "Whatever, deer probably."
Kagome frowned, "You are going after the older ones right? Or ones with a sickness?" she questioned with concern.
It was Emmett that now raised a brow at her question. "Why would I do that?"
Kagome huffed, "Because what if you kill a mother, or you know a father or something!"
Emmett chuckled and rolled his eyes, "Whatever hippy, come on lets go hunt, I'll make sure they are old or hurt though, don't worry."
Kagome glared at him as Emmett ran off, but followed slowly behind. She remembered vaguely what her father had said, about hunting. But she wasn't exactly thristy right now, so she opted instead to looking around the forest.
After an hour of wandering around, she sat down on the dirt floor, running her hands through the loose dirt. Nature, as always, worked its magic in relaxing her.
"Your weird."
The sudden voice made Kagome jump slightly, turning around she looked at where the voice had come from. "Hm, what did you really bring me here for?" she questioned, as Emmett came and sat beside her.
He sighed, and rubbed the back of his neck, as he looked around nervously. A motion that Kagome was sure was out of character for him, Emmett cleared his throat, before he began talking.
"Well, I didn't notice it really, until we almost lost you. But I like you, more then a friend, I was wondering if you wanted to go out on a date sometime." he stated, before turning his eyesight and face away from her.
The motion made Kagome both blush and giggle mentally, he was so adorable. Wiping her hands free of dirt, she grabbed his face and made him look at her. Looking into his golden eyes, she smiled. "I feel the same way, of course I would."
Emmett returned her smile enthusiastically, and jumped into a standing position. He grabbed her hand, and helped her up. "That's great, come on. I know a really good place we can go" he stated, before walking towards where the car was, grasping her hand tightly.
Kagome struggled to keep up with his fast pace, but smiled none the less. This should be interesting and as it always was with Emmett, a lot of fun.
