Sesshomaru Meets Maya

Chapter 8:

Kagome woke the next morning to an empty bed. She jumped out of bed and ran downstairs to check for Rin and Shippo. She found them in the kitchen with her mother cooking breakfast. She breathed a sigh of relief before sitting at the table.

“Good morning dear.”

“Good morning momma!” Kagome waved at them and set her head down in her arms.

“Well, looks like someone woke up cranky this morning.” The kids laughed. Kagome made another waving comment at her mother.

“Momma! Why are you cranky?” Rin’s sweet voice rang like echoes in her head.

“Mommy has a headache this morning.” Kagome’s mother pattered her on the head and set a plate of eggs and bacon in front of her followed promptly by two aspirin and a glass of juice. “Thanks mom.” Kagome downed the pills and started in on her breakfast. The children began eating as soon as plates were placed in front of them. Breakfast was eaten in silence but it didn’t last. After breakfast Rin and Shippo wanted to go outside and play. Kagome waved them out and watched from a window for a few minutes before sitting down again.

“So what is bothering you dear?” Kagome sighed. Her mother always did get right to the point.

“I seem to have gotten myself into a bit of a mess.” Quickly Kagome filled her mother in on the new developments in the feudal era.

“Well, of you don’t want Sesshomaru to court you then couldn’t you tell him ‘no’?” Kagome thought for a moment about that. Could she really just say ‘no’ to the most powerful and deadly demon in Japan? Would she live after declining his suit? Kagome shook her head.

“He’s Lord Sesshomaru, the Ice Prince and Lord of the Western Lands. Because I have placed myself as a subject of his lands he can pretty much decide my fate for me. As far as he knows I have no mother and no guardian to make the best choices for me. Actually if I was from that era I could see the stable situation this would provide. Weath, security, children; pretty much everything a normal girl would want.” Then Kagome’s mother understood.

“You aren’t one of those normal girls. You grew up here in the 20th century. You want to love the person you spend the rest of your life with.” Kagome nodded. “Then tell Sesshomaru that.” Kagome blinked blankly at her mother.

“Tell the most feared and cold demon in Japan that I want him to love me? You must not understand who he is.” Kagome’s mother smiled kindly at her daughter. “I know that look. You want to meet him don’t you?”

“Well, if you’re stuck in this situation as you say, then it is only best that I get to know the man… demon that you are going to marry.”

“Yeah, I guess that’s true.” Kagome stood to watch the children play some more. After a few minutes in silence she turned to her mother. “I can try but I don’t know how receptive he’ll be to the idea.” Kagome’s mother nodded again.

“You should get going dear.” Kagome nodded. She went to the door and yelled for the children to come inside.

“It’s time to get dressed and say good-bye to Grandma!” The children ran inside and up to Kagome’s room. Kagome quietly followed. The children talked between the two of them as Kagome dressed the children back into their clothes. Rin’s new kimono was beautiful. It was mostly red with little white sakura blossoms around the hem and sleeves. The obi was white. Kagome pulled her hair back into a French braid. Kagome packed her kimono instead of changing into it. Kagome dressed in some faded black jeans and a blood red backless tank top. Gathering up her new black backpack and the rest of the children’s things they all went downstairs for their goodbyes.

Kagome grabbed the children to her once more as she got ready to jump into the well. She sensed something waiting for her on the other side. Shrugging, Kagome jumped and was immediately engulfed in blue light. As soon as she was out the other side she was grabbed and pulled from the well. With the children still in her arms she came nose to nose with a very angry demon.

“Sesshomaru…” Kagome voice came out as a squeak.

“Miko, where did you take my daughter?” Sesshomaru snarled at her. Kagome swallowed before answering.

“To my home.” Then Rin decided to speak up.

“We got to meet Grandma and play with new toys and see a big city and go shopping. It was really fun daddy! And Rin got a new kimono!” Sesshomaru looked at his daughter briefly before swinging his gaze once more to Kagome.

“You have a mother?” Kagome nodded. “You will take me to her at once.” Kagome nodded again, waiting for him to put her down. Sesshomaru narrowed his eyes before setting her on the ground. Kagome set the children down and pulled her black bag off. She reached inside and withdrew Shippo’s wooden sword and Rin’s doll. Handing these items to the children she waved toward the God Tree.

“Go ask Inuyasha if he will take you back to the village. I want to two to stay with Kaede-sama, okay?” Both children nodded before taking off to the God Tree. She saw Inuyasha jump down from the tree and nod in her direction. Kagome turned back to Sesshomaru and gestured toward the well.

“We have to go through the well.” Sesshomaru nodded and waited. Kagome sighed and stepped up to the edge of the well. “We have to be touching for you to get through.” Sesshomaru nodded again and grabbed her by the waist before jumping into the well. The familiar blue light engulfed them and Kagome relaxed against Sesshomaru. Sesshomaru tightened his grip as they came out into the well again. Kagome looked over her shoulder and saw Sesshomaru’s nose twitching. Kagome tried to stop giggling but it slipped out despite her best efforts. Sesshomaru glared down at her with his nose still going.

“Try breathing through your nose. It worked of the children.” Sesshomaru parted his mouth slightly and his nose stopped twitching. Kagome reached for the ladder and Sesshomaru pulled her further into his chest. Sesshomaru jumped from the well and released Kagome. Straightening her close she opened the door of the well house.

“Mom! I’m back.” Kagome’s mother walked outside and immediately bowed very low.

“Lord Sesshomaru. Welcome to my home. Please come inside.” Sesshomaru nodded briefly before following Kagome and her mother into the house. Kagome looked around and was shocked. Sitting at the table was their good tea set and fresh tea still steaming. The room was spotless and the nice cushions were at the table. Kagome’s mother sat on one side of the table and Sesshomaru and Kagome sat on the other.

“Would you like to join me for a cup of tea Lord Sesshomaru?” Again he nodded. Kagome’s mother began preparing the tea as she spoke.

“I know why you are here Lord Sesshomaru. I am Kagome’s mother. You may call me Maya.” Maya handed out the tea cups. As an after thought she placed a sugar cube in Sesshomaru’s cup. A smirk crossed Sesshomaru’s mouth as he picked up the cup to take the one required sip. Kagome sat there quietly wondering where her mother was going with this.

“What type of tea is this Maya?” Kagome blinked up at Sesshomaru. Did he just ask that? She didn’t think she was insane but nothing would shock her today. Maya smiled politely.

“It’s jasmine tea, from China.” Sesshomaru nodded and took another drink from the tea. Kagome was surprised to say the least. This isn’t the Sesshomaru that she knew and disliked. This was a Sesshomaru that she could get used to very quickly. Things were not looking good for Kagome right now.
