Fall to Pieces
A/N: This one is very emotional and a little uplifting and dark at the same time. Maybe some lemon, not too sure at this point. My son Jonah is starting to get a little curious as to what I am writing about, so I may have to keep this short.
Also: am contemplating a follow-up. Thinking of a series of one-shots showing how Kag/Kimi and Inuyasha have to fix time when something fucks up and also showing how they raise a family amidst the chaos. Review and tell me if you’d like that.
P.S. This was written while I was listening to “Fall to Pieces” from Avril Lavigne’s second album, “Let Go.” It was basically the inspiration to this chapter.
Anyway. On the chappy.

Chapter Nine: Fall to Pieces
Kagome sat with her legs crossed, watching the fire burn; the red light was reflected in her sky colored eyes. Inuyasha was watching her quietly. Unable to handle the silence between them any longer, he stood and crossed the room to sit on their bed beside his mate. They had returned to Kagome’s time, and they were in their bedroom in the Higurashi Shrine.
Her husband suddenly, without a single word, reached over and hugged her. She blinked a surprise and stiffened a little. He sighed and released her, then he got up and left the room.

I looked away, then I looked back at you.
You try to say things that you can’t undo.
If I had my way, I’d never get over you.
Today’s the day, I pray that we’ll make it through.
Make it through the fall.
Make it through it all.

She met him in the kitchen. She looked him seriously in the eye. “You’re angry,” she murmured.
He clenched the ends of the island kitchen counter so hard his body shook. He bit his bottom lip. “I’m not angry with you,” he told her. He reached out and took her hand, drawing her into his embrace. She pressed her face into his chest and cried a little. He just squeezed her tight, his cheek against her hair. He cherished her scent, and Inuyasha actually shed a couple tears of his own as he held his lover.
“I’m angry with him,” he told her, breathing a little heavier than normal as his emotions began to take over. He was frustrated and sad; Naraku had made a fool out of him and Kagome… or Kimiko, as she was really called. He needed to keep reminding himself that she wasn’t what he had always thought she was. ‘This was one book I couldn’t have judged by its cover,’ he thought as he pulled back to look her in the eyes. Those perfect baby blues, filled with tears at what Naraku had done to them…
“I’m angry with him, and I’m frustrated with the situation,” he told her in a firm tone.
She nodded, and he knew she was feeling the same as he was. “You know,” she mumbled, “we could take the doctor’s advice.”
He stared at her.
They had told the doctor during the appointment earlier that morning that Kimiko had been involuntarily violated, which was true on certain levels. The doctor had suggested that, if this were going to create a strain on their family and their relationship, that maybe it would be best to just get rid of it.
Inuyasha’s nostrils flared in anger. ‘I hate that bastard Naraku,’ he thought to himself as he stared at his wife. ‘I hate him for putting us through this. For forcing us to make this tough decision.’
He took a deep breath, choosing his words carefully for once. “I know that you don’t want to have that villain’s child, Kag– I mean, Kimi,” he said with every ounce of sincerity in his being. “But it’s still a child. We can’t condemn it for what its father has done.”
Kimiko broke away from his right then, and Inuyasha knew that there was not a delicate way to get around this; either they aborted right away, or they kept it and raised their archenemy’s bastard child as their own.
Kimiko’s breathing quickened, and Inuyasha could sense her stress. Her heart rate had jumped, and so had her blood pressure. She was a goddess, sure, but she could still be stressed out. She threw up her arms and let out an aggravated growl. “I just can’t believe that I didn’t tell he wasn’t you!” she berated herself. “I guess… we’d just been so rocky since I told you the truth, and I thought…” She shook her head. “This is crazy, because I have absolutely no idea what I thought. I should’ve known he was fake, that he wasn’t you, and I am so sorry for that.” She held her face in her small hands. “I am such a horrible mate.”
Inuyasha wrapped her up in his arms once more, shushing her. “No, no. Please don’t think that, Kimi. Please don’t put yourself down.”

And I don’t wanna fall to pieces.
I just wanna sit and stare at you.
I don’t wanna talk about it.
And I don’t want a conversation.
I just want to cry in front of you.
I don’t want to talk about it.
‘Cause I’m in love with you.
You’re the only one I’ll be with till the end.
When I come undone you bring me back again.
Back under the stars, back into your arms.

The doctor regarded them with a deal of respect. She nodded. “I think that I can be honest with the two of you,” she said to the Nishi’s. Kimiko lay on the table in her hospital gown, her legs propped up in the stirrups, and Inuyasha stood by her side, holding her hand. The doctor smiled as she continued, “I think that this is a very brave and honorable decision that the two of you are making, to keep this child. Especially you, Mr. Nishi.” She nodded to Inuyasha, who blushed a little.
She clapped her hands together. “Well, let’s get to this.”

Wanna know who you are.
Wanna know where to start.
I wanna know what this means.
Wanna know how you feel.
Wanna know what is real.
I wanna know everything, everything.

Kimiko and Yash sat at the dining room table in their old military bunker in the year 2256. They had spilled the beans to everyone, and Minoru and Suzume had forgiven them and Shipp, who had known for years; they knew the others were only looking out for them. The less they knew, the safer they were, they all knew.
Yash looked across the table and smiled at the “newest” addition to their family. ‘Naraku has really screwed us up this time,’ he thought as he observed his stepdaughter thoughtfully. Nishi Moriko had Kimiko’s big smile and ebony hair, but she had her biological father’s dark eyes. In fact, other than her eyes, every part of her matched her mother; her figure, her facial features, even her demeanor. For that, Yash was thankful.
Kimiko sighed. “This is getting out of hand,” she said. She reached over and patted her daughter’s hand. “Not saying I don’t enjoy having you with us, Moriko. I just… am getting tired of your father fucking with everything in our lives… and in other people’s lives.”
Moriko gave her mother a look. “What are you talking about, Mom?” she asked in a playful voice. She gave her stepfather a grin. “Dad isn’t screwing anything up, are you, Dad?” she asked, looking directly into Yash’s golden eyes. He smiled at her, comforted by her words and opinion.
“Of course not,” he replied quietly, sipping from his coffee mug.

A/N: told you it would be a little short compared to some of the other chapters, but it’s the best I can muster for a while. I gotta tell you, though, this story is taking some very different turns from what I had originally planned. But the inspiration never ceases, as you know. Like they say, writers are the midwives of history.
