The truth
A/N: Wow… Nine chapters and finally I’m almost done. Give or take a couple more chapters and this will be my first ever completed series. *claps hands* Maybe I’ll finish tonight. Who knows. Anyways, here’s the next chapter.
Chapter eight: The truth
It took some costing, but eventually Kagome got Sesshomaru inside. He still clutched the tattered Kimono in one hand, and his sword in the other. Teachers were running up and demanded what happened, but Kagome couldn’t answer him. There was no way for her to answer them. Telling them that Sesshomaru was a yokai lord and was just a large dog demon and killed the yokai just didn’t seem like a good idea. And no one would believe her. Then again, they probably didn’t believe that yokai existed for that matter.
“Leave her alone!” Another teacher called as he pushed by them. “cant you see that something happened here? Shouldn’t you teachers be calling the cops instead. I’ll deal with Higurashi and Taisho myself.”
The teacher turned and looked at Kagome. “I really hope you can tell me why there’s a demon running around, Higurashi.”
“Who are you?” Kagome asked.
“My name is Okami. I run this hotel.” He said with a small smirk that reminded Kagome of someone.
“You’re a wolf yokai.” Sesshomaru muttered.
The man smirked once more. “Your nose is just as sharp as ever Sesshomaru-sama. Lets go to my room alright? We wont be bothered there.”
**
“So can you tell me what happened?” Okami asked as he sat down on the couch. He offered both Kagome and Sesshomaru a cup of apple cider. Kagome accepted, but Sesshomaru didn’t even budge to show that he wanted some.
Kagome took a deep breath and told him the story that caused all of this. How she witnessed Inuyasha and Kikyo told each other that they loved each other, to the fight with Naraku, and then the destruction of the well.
“We figured that there was no way to bring Sesshomaru-sama back to his time. So he’s been adapting.”
Okami gave a small nod. “I see. Well, I think its about time that you learned what happened when you two disappeared.” He placed his cup down and took a deep breath.
“You see, after you two disappeared, Naraku was boosting on and on about how he killed both of you. The only one who knew what happened was my ancestor Koga.”
Kagome blinked. “Koga is your ancestor?” She said surprised.
He held up his hand. “let me finish the story.”
Kagome nodded and bit her lip.
Okami sighed and continued. “Koga fought the demon Naraku, but ended up running away. He met up with Inuyasha not too far away though. It seemed like the hanyuu went to go and talk to you. Well, when he jumped in the well, it didn’t work. He stayed in the past. No matter how many times he tired, he couldn’t go into your time. Of course, this angered Kikyo. She yelled at him that there was nothing he could do. Ever. Soon, they all dropped the subject.
“About a month later, Naraku showed up. By that time, Koga had mated with Ayame, and Inuyasha and Kikyo mated as well. But anyways, during the fight with Naraku, Koga was mortally injured. But Inuyasha delivered the final blow and killed Naraku. Koga unfortunately died.”
“What about Rin and Jaken?” Sesshomaru muttered.
Okami sighed softly. “From what the rumors say, Naraku kidnapped Rin and killed Jaken. No one ever found her remains. Inuyasha buried Jaken’s remains. Koga’s pack took Koga and buried him with their fallen comrades. Its also said that your brother, made a burial ground for you as well Sesshomaru-sama. Even though you two hated each other, your still his brother.”
“I don’t care.” Sesshomaru said, standing up.
“I do!” Kagome snapped. Already tears were falling down her face. Even though Koga would bother her about mating him, he was still a great friend. And now he was dead. Same with Jaken and Rin. It seemed like her fault. Everything. If Sesshomaru didn’t fall down the well with her, and if the well house didn’t blow up, Sesshomaru could have saved the little girl.
“Stop blaming yourself Kagome.” Sesshomaru snapped. “If its anyone’s fault, its Naraku’s. We will find a way to get. I’ll tear his limbs off slowly and force him to feel every bit of pain.” His eyes slowly began to bleed red once more.
“Kagome.” Okami said, handing her what looked to be an old letter. “This was written by Koga before the final battle. It seemed like he kept it so he could give it to you himself.”
With shaking hands, Kagome took the letter and slowly began to open it. She was so scared that it would break apart in her hands. She read the letter once, then read it once more before she broke out sobbing again.
‘My dear Kagome,
I hope you get this letter soon. I’m back at the mountain writing you this of course. It seems like Mutt face couldn’t get back to you. I always knew you were special Kagome. I just didn’t know how. I just hope that Sesshomaru is treating you much better then Inuyasha did.
I know you kept denying me over and over again, but Kagome, I still love you. And I always will. I did mate with Ayame, but that was so I could have an heir once I pass away. I can already tell I’m probably going to die against Naraku. But I’ll fight till my very last breath. That way I can say that I died fighting. I’m going to try my hardest to stay alive for you, but if I don’t, then let me say this: I don’t care what Inuyasha says, you’re the most beautiful women in Japan. Sure you were from another time, but everything about you was special. Your smile, your laugh. Everything. I fell in love with you when I first laid eyes on you. And knowing Sesshomaru, he’s falling for you too. But unlike me, he wont come out and say it. Your going to have to get him blistering drunk to get that dog to say it.
I don’t want to lose you to him, but sense I wasn’t the one who go trapped in your world with you, please tell that dog that he better take care of you. I wont stand for any less treatment. Anyways, the guys are bothering me so I’m going to let you go. Please be safe Kagome.
Love always and forever
Koga.’
Kagome folded the letter up, trying to stop crying. Koga still loved her. Even though she denied him over and over again, he still loved her.
“What did it say?” Sesshomaru asked her.
Kagome shook her head. “He just told me that he misses me and that he loves me. He also wishes you well Sesshomaru.”
“I see…” He said as he stood up. “We better get going back. I can already hear the teachers telling the students to get back on the bus for the train.”
Kagome nodded and stood up. “Thank you Okami-san. I will forever treasure this letter.”
Okami nodded. “I’ll see you again Kagome. Or lets hope.”
Kagome gave him a small bow and left the room with Sesshomaru. There was so much she needed to think about. And she was sure that Sesshomaru too needed to think.
**
“Mom, Shota, Grandpa, we’re home early.” Kagome said as her and Sesshomaru walked in. She looked around, and by the sound of it, no one was home. They probably went off on a trip themselves. That’s what they always did when Kagome went off on a school trip.
“No one is here.” Sesshomaru said, stating the obvious.
“Yea…” Kagome fell on the couch and sighed. It was well past one in the morning and Kagome was dead tired. That was till she remembered that Sesshomaru go injured. Sitting up quickly, she grabbed Sesshomaru’s hand to see that there still was a small cut from the sword that Kiro was using.
“Baka…” She muttered as she ran off to go and grab the bandages. “You maybe a powerful yokai, but you still can get infections.”
He couldn’t, but Sesshomaru wasn’t going to tell her about that. Though why she was getting the bandages was a mystery to him. After all, he would be healed by the time the sun came up.
“Give me your hand.” Kagome demanded. Without arguing, the yokai handed her his cut hand. As Kagome bandaged it, he began to watch her closely. Her face was serious, and the tear streaks down her face was obvious. Or at least to him it was. Without thinking, Sesshomaru reached out and caressed her cheek.
“You’ve been crying too much Kagome.” His voice was soft and calming.
Kagome glanced at him before continuing working on his hand. “I’ve been under too much stress as of late. I mean, I just found out that a good friend of mine is dead, and now that I think about it, all of them are. Just everyone is-”
Sesshomaru pressed a finger against her lips. “its not your fault Kagome. Stop thinking it is. Nor is it my fault. Naraku attacked us at the well and pushed both of us into it. Yes, your miko powers sent us back here, but its not your fault that the lighting stuck the well. I’ve told you this many times. You have nightmares about it. This I know. I hear you toss and turn in your sleep. You keep apologizing for something that you couldn’t even control. Stop it. Its not your fault and it never will be your fault.”
Kagome opened her mouth once more, but this time, Sesshomaru covered her lips with his own. His heart was tattered, but not broken. His sprit was in pieces, but not shattered. His beast found comfort in this human women. And no longer was he going to deny himself of Kagome. He denied himself of so much, but he couldn’t take it anymore. Rin was gone, and so was Jaken. Kagome was the only thing he had left. And this time, he wasn’t going to let her go. Not this time. He wasn’t going to lose anyone anymore.
TBC…
A/N: So, I know I promised you a lemon a couple chapters ago, but I can almost tell you there is going to be one in the next chapter. I might be mistaken. It matters if I can get it done during work or not. Anyways, please R&R
