The Boy She Knew

Amy stormed off on the worn path through the forest angrily ripping her hair free of it’s restraint she allowed it to be tossed about in the cool breeze. Some feet ahead a deer froze in it’s tracks and looked to the to furious woman. Feeling her anger it approached and fell into step beside her as she followed the trail.

Scenting the bitter tang of anger in the air Inuyasha and Kagome made quick work of finding the distraught girl. Coming abreast of her no one spoke for fear of setting her off against her. It was she who instead initiated conversation. “Ugh! I can’t believe that pompous ass.” She growled indignantly.

“How exactly do you know Sesshoumaru?” Kagome asked trying to discover the nature of their relationship.

Amy cut a glance at the older girl. “Before I was sent to the future, Inuyasha and I used to play together. But when Inuyasha would be away with his mother, and it was needed that I be watched, father had had Sesshoumaru sit with me. He looked as if he were in his early teens, though he was in his hundreds while I was barely 6.” She said. “He and I became good friends, often going out late at night to see each other when we were supposed to stay at home.” She spoke sadly.

She combed her hair back from her face with a hand as they continued to walk. “It was when I was 7, and he was beginning to look like a man, grown. That one night I had snuck out to see him. We didn’t know if he would be able to sneak out that night. But I had gone anyway.” She paused, her eyes falling shut and a tremor passed through her, as a distant memory passed through her minds eye.

Inuyasha saw this and placed a comforting hand on her shoulder. “What happened Amy?” He asked.

She opened her eyes, still bits of terror flashing across them. “I was attacked in the forest. I’d never been afraid before, I was a friend of a taiyoukai’s family, why should I fear.” She shrugged as they continued to walk.

“They’d seemed so proud of themselves, they were going to use my small body, murder me and then they told me that they were going to hide me away so that none could ever find me. I was terrified. Here I was 6 years old with no protection, and no knowledge as to whether or not Sesshoumaru was to come that night or not.” She choked up on her tears as a single one began to slide down her pale cheek.

“I fought back, I wasn’t ready to die and I fought back.” She laughed wiping away the tear angrily. “They laughed at me before beginning to beat me and tear at my clothes. They took turns beating me and cutting me. As I would still not lay still for them, finally one of them who had known I was friends with Sesshoumaru had threatened to kill him if I didn’t cooperate. That had grabbed my attention, how could I let my best friend die?” She asked continuing to wipe at the tears.

“It was once they had lain me on my back and spread my legs that Sesshoumaru had burst through the clearing. I’d screamed for him to run, for they were going to kill him. He was so angry, I’d never seen him angry before, aside from back there now. He’d shifted to his dog form and attacked them. He killed them, not just killed them, he murdered them in cold blood for what they’d done.”

“I was so scared of his demon form that I’d taken off running blindly through the forest, without my clothes, which didn’t matter, there had been nothing left to them.” She shrugged. “As young children are want to do, I got lost in the forest, and it was he who found me, not long after I’d run off. I was so upset I fell into his arms and cried for all I was worth. He wrapped me in his haori and promised me that he’d never let anything happen to me again. That he’d always be there to protect me.” She finished as they cleared the forest and entered the village of Edo.

Inuyasha looked troubled, and Amy picked up on that. “What’s wrong.” She asked, her hand now touching his shoulder.

His eyes caught hers. “I never knew the two of you had been so close.” He said with surprise in his voice. “I just, I dunno, assumed that it was only the two of us for all this time.” He shrugged.

She smiled. “Oh hell no bud, you and I are great friends, unless of course, you don’t want to be now that you know about Sesshoumaru and I?” She teased earning a grin and an arm wrapped around her shoulders.

“Course not, you’re like a sister to me. Speaking of which. How old are you?” He asked releasing her and stepping back to look her over.

She laughed. Then in a southern accent she replied. “Why darlin’ don’t cha know it’s wrong to ask a lady he age.” She dropped her finger tips against his chest as Kagome giggled and Inuyasha looked confused. “Oh never mind, a future reference. I’m 15.” She said as several people approached the three.
