Chapter 9
‘How much more fucked up could one day get?’ Inuyasha asked himself as he flopped down on his couch. He pulled the bottle of wine to his lips and drank as long as he could before allowing himself to breath. His eyes looked around the apartment he spent the night before cleaning then back to the perfectly set table he spent an hour fussing over so he could have a nice dinner with Kagome when she came but he should know by now that things rarely worked out the way he wanted them to.
{I rolled up my sleeves today
cause I thought that this was over}
Kikyo leaned against the window frame looking away out over the street below with disgust, an angry expression plastered on her face. She came here to talk to him since he wouldn’t take her calls at his shop and now he treated her like she didn’t have a right to be here. All because of that little tramp, Kagome. “You shouldn’t call me names you know.” She mumbled getting a scoffing snort from him. His golden eyes glared at her with an emotion she never thought she would see in them, loathing. He took another long drink ignoring her glare.
{but then you called to say
you forgot that broach of your mother’s}
“Call you names? Is that all you care about. Oh right, you don’t give a shit about nothing else but yourself. Well let me tell you, I got lots more to say bitch.” He snarled back after removing the bottle from his lips. “We gave it a try and things just aren’t going to go back to what they were before. It’s time for you to realize that. I ain’t going to be your little fuck toy no more. Find someone else.” He added as he stood and walked into the kitchen.
{and every time I try to cut the cord
you come crawlin back with some excuse
you forgot something}
“Look it isn’t my fault that little whore came in and interrupted us. I told you a long time ago to get rid of her ass but you wouldn’t listen. It’s all your fault things happened like this tonight.” Kikyo yelled back at him. He twirled and glared at her with hatred. The look on Kagome’s face when she opened the door to see Kikyo wrapped around him would haunt him for a long time. She had looked so happy but then that horrible expression of betrayal replaced the shimmer in her eyes as the smile faded. She had apologized politely for interrupting before closing the door and disappearing down the stairs. He tried to chase after her but Kikyo clung to him like a wet rag doll pleading for him to stay. For the first time since he met Kikyo, he wanted to hit her but instead he called her a bitchy whore in heat. She backed off stunned. Unfortunately it was too late. Kagome was gone.
“Kagome? You think this is about Kagome? You are still as stupid as you ever were. It took falling in love with Kagome for me to realize that you never even really cared about me at all. If you had then I wouldn’t have gone to prison for something I didn’t do. Kagome never would have let it happen if she could stop it no matter what would have happened to her. I was nothing but a convenient toy for you. And I’ll tell you this now, you ever call her a whore again, I’ll rip you fucking face off. I’m the only guy she has ever been with. Unlike you, she has enough self respect not to sleep with anything that has meat hanging between it’s legs.”
{if I don’t make things right
there’s nothing good about goodbye
I could swear I saw you cry}
Kikyo looked at him with shock. He never spoke to her like that before. Not in high school or since she started seeing him after his return. A pinch of pain in her heart jolted her from her stare and she realized something warm was sliding down her cheek. She quickly wiped it away and turned her face away unwilling to let him know he was affecting her like this. Inuyasha frowned feeling some regret for his words. Seeing Kikyo cry wasn’t what he wanted. Unfortunately it couldn’t be helped now. He had been trying to avoid this but he should have realized Kikyo never did take being ignored well. Nor did she like rejection. As a result of his avoidance to deal with the situation it had ended up hurting Kagome, again. At this point there was no other choice if he wanted to get Kagome back.
{I always knew you’d wind up fallin harder
there’s nothing good about goodbye
just say goodbye}
However, since Kikyo wouldn’t take the subtle hint that he didn’t want to be her boy toy anymore then he would have to get more blunt and put it in words she would understand. He did feel bad for making her cry. Kikyo may be a spoiled bitch but she was proud and rarely showed her emotions openly. In school she had few friends and often seemed withdrawn from others. Almost fragile and that is what attracted him in the first place. There was a side to her that could be very sweet and caring but she didn’t show it to many. He knew his words were a little harsh but she needed to hear them so he could try to get on with his life. A life he wanted to have with Kagome. Now he knew that as long as Kikyo kept interfering that would never happen.
{I rolled up my sleeves today
cause I thought that this had ended}
He leaned back against the counter looking at the woman he once admired above anything else. He still couldn’t figure out how he could have been so wrong about her. Then again, he had always been dense when it came to Kikyo and it often got him into trouble. It amazed him after everything he had learned over the past few months he still had some empathy toward her. Perhaps it was shadows of past feelings but inside he knew that he really did love her at one time. It was the realization that she played him for a fool in the past and present that made him so hateful now to a point where he really didn’t care how much he hurt her as long as she got the point. He still wasn’t sure if Kikyo actually knew that Kagome was coming over or not but the problems she caused by being here made his attempt to get back into Kagome’s good graces even harder.
“I can’t help what you or she is. I offer you a chance to make your life better and you act like it’s a inconvenient. All I ask for is a little show of affection from time to time. Is that so bad?” Kikyo mumbled from her place by the window. “I know dating Naraku at the same time I was seeing you in high school was bad and I really should have told the truth to keep you out of jail but I had my own problems at the time.” She tried to defend herself. He shook his head and smiled ruefully.
“Yeah I suppose you’re not the only one to blame for it. After all Naraku was supposed to be my friend. He always wanted what I had. As my girl you should have told him to fuck off. I guess you enjoyed the popularity too much to consider what you were doing as wrong. He may have gotten you but there is one thing he will never have. That’s Kagome. She’s too good for him or me for that matter. But she wants to be with me and by hell I’m going to take my slice of the good life for once. So you can take your ‘offer’ and cram it up your sorry ass for all I care. All I care about is Kagome and what your little stunt did to her just now. The feelings I had for you once no long exist. I don’t want to have anything to do with you anymore Kikyo. Find some other guy to be your boy toy. I’m tired of feeling like a used piece of flesh.” He finished with a scowl.
{but then you called again
to tell me how you’re gonna blow my best friend}
She glanced back at him with a glare. “You can’t just walk away that easily. I could ruin your business you know. Take every thing away that you hold dear. Including your precious little bitch.” She snapped angrily. He snorted and shook his head.
{and every time I try to cut the cord
you come crawlin back with some excuse you
forgot something
there’s nothing good about goodbye}
“You just don’t get it do you. No matter what you threaten me with it won’t change a thing. Hell, after tonight Kagome may not ever talk to me again, even so, I still feel the same. I loath the ground you walk on and I will never touch you again.” He glared back with just as much anger. Her bottom lip quivered and she turned away from him.
{I can swear I saw you cry
I always knew you’d wind up fallin
fallin harder}
“You’ve been so caught up in your own self pity you don’t even see what you do to people around you and I think that is what I loath the most. Kagome was actually worried about you getting hurt the whole time and here you treat her like she was out to get you. Why? Because you’re jealous of how pure she is. You’re jealous of the fact your own husband wants her and you’re jealous because I love her now and not you.” He took a few steps toward her then stopped to look her up and down.
{every story has two sides
in the he said she said fight}
“If you were half the person you pretend to be, you would walk away. Leave me alone and leave Kagome alone. But hey, we both know that you’re too much of a selfish bitch to do such an honorable thing for others.” He went on walking closer to her but kept his distance.
{always knew you’d end up fallin
fallin harder
there’s nothing good about goodbye}
He watched her closely as she stared out the window. Her eyes were unreadable but he hoped and prayed that she would finally get the picture.
{just say goodbye
fallin, fallin harder}
Then he saw something he almost couldn’t believe. A tear slid slowly down her face. It was soon joined by others that slide down to her chin where they dripped off landing gently on her blouse. She didn’t even attempt to wipe them away. Nor did she look at him for support.
{you’re fallin apart
fallin, fallin harder}
Even though he felt guilt seeing her tears he refrained from making a move toward her due to his knowledge that she had pretended before. In the past it would have been hard to convince him of that fact but now, after all the time he had to think about it, he could tell you of several times when he was pretty sure she was faking it so she would get what she wanted. He wouldn’t fall for her fake tears again.
{you’re fallin apart
fallin, fallin harder}
“I love you.” She finally whispered after several long tense minutes. “I always did. I just....” She stopped and shook her head as she wiped the tears away.
{you’re fallin apart
fallin, fallin harder}
“It doesn’t matter now.” She murmured.
{you’re fallin apart
there’s nothing good about goodbye
I can swear I saw you cry
I always knew you’d wind up fallin
fallin harder}
“You always said that so easily but you never really showed it. I guess that was my fault. I confused lust with the feeling of love. I know better now. I won’t fall for your tricks anymore. I promised once to protect you but I can’t protect you from yourself. Only you can do that.” He replied coldly. She hung her head with a sad smile as more tears slid down her face.
{every story has two sides
in the he said she said fight}
Her dark brown eyes looked up pleadingly into his but found them to hold no warmth for her. Instead he turned his back to her as he walked to the front door opening it. “Don’t call again. There is nothing left for us to discuss.” He said harshly as he held the door open. Slowly she walked toward him picking up her purse as she went. She stopped in front of him and placed her hand on his cheek. He flinched slightly but didn’t pull away. On impulse she leaned up on her tip toes aiming to place a kiss on his lips but he turned his head away avoiding contact with her lips. She snorted softly and walked out the door.
{she’ll always wind up fallin
fallin harder}
