Chapter 9: Diner Begins

Kagome was stunned at what had just transpired. ‘Did Sesshomaru just defend me against Kikyo and Inu Yasha? Why would he do that when he doesn’t even know me?’ She turned to watch her companion as he dealt with the concierge.

“This way please, Mr. Tashio.” The concierge said sweeping his arm out, than walking briskly ahead.

Sesshomaru put his hand in the small of Kagome’s back to escort her to their table. ‘She is surprisingly quiet after that incident downstairs.’ He thought. ‘Maybe she didn’t wish for me to defend her. She doesn’t, after all, know of my intentions towards her to have her as my mate, which would give me the right to defend her to the death in youkai terms. In any case, it is of little consequence now.’ He finished, as he escorted her into their private dining room.

Kagome gasped quietly at the room she was just escorted into. It was beautiful! The walls were a dark chocolate in color; the heavy drapes that were ceiling to floor in length resembled creamed coffee. Along one wall, to the left of the door was a tapestry that took up most of the wall. It told the story of one mans fight to realize his dreams of pride, valor, honor and love. Against the opposite wall was a lit fireplace. It had to be about six feet high and twice as long. Right in front of the fireplace was two large chairs that looked although they could easily fit two people in one. There was also a table, between the chairs, set back a bit, but still within reach.

She looked up at the ceiling to see a mural of angels and faeries peeking out from the clouds. In the center of the mural was a large full moon, painted in all its glory. And right beneath the moon, was their table. It was set for an intimate dinner for two.

While she was occupied looking around at the décor of the room, Sesshomaru turned to the concierge and spoke quietly to him. “Remember the two that we were conversing with, downstairs? Please ensure that they are seated appropriately for the annoyance that they have caused me.”

The concierge nodded. “As you wish, sir.” And he turned to complete his task. He may not have been there for the whole conversation between the Lord of the West and the half demon and his companion, but he caught enough to be more than slightly annoyed at the disrespect that was shown to the Lords companion in his establishment of all places! And he had just the place to seat the two for their insolence.

Sesshomaru turned back to Kagome and pulled out her chair to seat her. When she sat she felt him brush his hands gently over her shoulders, like he couldn’t resist touching her. ‘Could he have spoken the truth downstairs?’ Kagome wondered as he seated himself across from her.

“May I suggest the …” the waiter started, but Kagome tuned him out. Sesshomaru captivated her. In the gentle candle and firelight, his hair looked like electricity, his eyes fairly gleamed, and his shoulders seemed broader. And his lips, oh Kami! His lips looked firm and so inviting that she just wanted to get up and take his lips as he had hers! Even when in motion, they practically cried out for her to taste!

Kagome was so wrapped up in her visual stimulus that she didn’t realize that the waiter had stopped speaking and asked her what she wanted.

Sesshomaru smirked. He could practically taste her arousal! He wanted this dinner to be over so he could have her in his arms again. But he has learned to be a patient youkai. He told the waiter that she would have the same as him, to send him away, and thereby hurry dinner along. He decided to play with his miko a little, as she seemed to be absorbed in staring at his lips. So he licked them.

Kagome’s breath caught. She practically felt his tongue caress her lips when he licked his. She glanced up into his eyes to see his staring at her. She blushed at being caught staring. Than she remembered what had happened downstairs.

“Sesshomaru,” she said quietly.

“Hmm,” he answered back.

“Thank you for defending me downstairs against Inu Yasha and Kikyo. It was very kind of you, since you don’t really know me, or the situation.” Kagome said.

Sesshomaru was quiet for a moment, considering how much he should tell her about his plans to mate her. ‘I might as well give her an idea of my plans. Test the waters, so they say, just to see how receptive she is’ he thought.

“Kagome,” he began. “I wish to get to know you better, and I don’t wish to have you believe that I will look down on you because of circumstances beyond your control. How were you to know that you would meet them here tonight? Maybe the Kami’s have a reason for this to happen. Why we met today, and the confrontation between my brother and his wench this same evening. Who are we to say?”

He reached out his hand, palm up, inviting her to place her hand in his. When she did, he clasped it and felt the jolt run through him. He noticed that she felt the same thing. “Good.’ He thought.

“I wish to begin a relationship with you, my little miko.” Kagome inhaled sharply at his words, and he gripped her hand a little tighter, not wanting to lose contact with her as he continued. “And someday soon, I wish to mate with you. Take you as my mate and wife, to never let you go into another’s arms again. For in your arms, I feel that at last, all is right, and you belong with me as I belong to you.” He finished quietly.

Sesshomaru released her hand and sat back. “Now, let us enjoy this meal together.” He said, as their first course was set in front of them.

Kagome just seemed to be stunned. ‘I was almost expecting a lecture about … something. Instead he hits me with this little bomb!’ She glanced down at her plate, not really registering the artistic dish before her.

‘What do I say to that?’ She thought.

“Yasha,” whined Kikyo. “I thought that you had an in here. So why are we seated next to the kitchen doors? And why does it also seem like all the waiters here are pushing extra hard on the door so it hits my chair?” she hissed at him.

“I don’t know.” He replied annoyed. “I asked for a table in the center of the dinning room, but the concierge said that there was no reservation in my name but there was a table available for us. This is all there is. And if you find that your chair is being bumped, just shift your chair away from the range of the door.”

“I already have, but as I said, it seems like the waiters are pushing extra hard on the door so it hits my chair. You know, this is some way to treat me when I have agreed to take you back Yasha. You don’t think that you could have put a little more effort into it? I mean why …”

Inu Yasha tuned her voice out. She really was annoying. His thoughts turned to Kagome and her appearance here tonight. ‘She looked really good in that dress. Only, what is she doing here with my brother? How could they know each other? I think I may pay her a visit soon to find out’

“And for another thing, Yasha …” Kikyo continued to drone on. He sighed. ‘Maybe I will go and see her tomorrow. If I can ever get through this evening!’ he thought in frustration.
