Chapter Nine


Kuwabara sliced through another youkai, he suddenly felt his sister's presence. "This way Yurameshi." He ran down the hall to the left and stopped in front of a door. "In here." The door was halfway open, his hand opened it the rest of the way.

Yusuke shoved past him and ran into the room. He saw a youkai with white hair slashing towards Shizuru and Keiko. His fist slammed into the guy before he knew they were there. He showed him no mercy as he threw him against the farthest wall. A blast hit him before he had time to hit the floor.

Kuwabara ran up to his sister and stopped, he could sense the shield around them. His hand reached out to stop his friend. "Wait there's something around them, that guy was beating on it. SIS!" He screamed at his sister's turned head.

Shizuru had closed her eyes when the youkai had raised his sword to end their lives. She heard him curse as he kept hitting the barrier. Her brother's voice caused her to turn her head. The girl had said to touch the barrier, she did so. It broke under her touch, "Kuzuma."

"How are you sis?" He could see the bruises and cuts over her face and body.

"I'll live. We are okay. Hate to say it but we owe our lives to that girl." She saw Yusuke drop to his knees and take Keiko out her arms. "I'm sure she'll be okay. The girl healed her before we lost her." A tear slid down her cheek.

"Where is this Kagome and the others?"

Shizuru figured that was the girl's name. "I don't know she saved me and Keiko, left after she erected the barrier. Said she was going to look for the others. I have no idea where Shiori or Yukina is."

Kurama jumped as the bombs came for him, they blew up as he sliced through them with his whip. If he didn't know better he'd say Karasu had gotten stronger since they last fought. Also last time the man had played with him, enjoying trying to torture him. This time he seemed to be fighting for real, almost driven. He had to admit Karasu was now equal with him. They both had substained injuries so far, nothing life threatening though.

Karasu watched as the fox sliced through his bombs easily. No matter how many he sent in. The cut in his side was begining to numb. The few scratches on him were quickly healing. He watched as his opponent stopped across the room. Suddenly vines shot from his arm, Karasu recognized it immediately. "That didn't work the first time around, Kurama."

"Oh, it's been approved since then I assure you. A more faster, efficient killer, I dare you to move."

Kagome continued to run down the hall, she couldn't find anyone. Her senses told her Karasu was in the room up ahead along with someone else. She wasn't sure why she didn't turn around but her path never changed.

Her legs took her into the room and she stopped suddenly when she almost ran into a large plant. Her head turned to see a youkai with long silver hair dressed in white. A scream tore through her as one of the large plants turned to her. She felt herself suddenly being crushed as it enveloped around her. Her barrier went up as it tried to crush her.

A blast was heard and she felt the thing let her go, she began to fall. Arms went around her, Karasu skidded to a halt several feet away. Kagome felt a sigh of relief until one of the plants knocked him away from her. Her eyes widened in horror as it snapped around him hauling him into the air.

Kurama watched in horror as the girl came running in. Her energy and movement was enough to call attention to herself. He tried to redirect it to the proper target. The others went after Karasu, yet the one wouldn't release the girl. He was thankful to see it when Karasu blasted the one holding the girl gaining her release. The fox wasn't sure if it had been intentional until he caught her and moved her out the way.
He swore when he felt the girl's arua flare in her fear. The plant could sense that she was the more powerful of the two, plus she was trembling in fear.

One had the other man in it's clutches but the other's didn't attack, their attention had turned to the girl. He was having trouble keeping them from attacking her. One charged for her and he heard her scream. Suddenly there was a surge of energy then a bright pink light filled the room. He felt himself being thrown back, his back hit the wall. It cracked and fell around him as the light went over head. The debree shielded him but he could feel the energy as it passed.

Karasu watched as the plant went for the girl and her scream split the air. It only took a second for her aura to flare and her power shot out in a large pink blast. The fox was thrown back as his plant was consumed by it. He felt himself being released as he fell to the floor. His head snapped up to see what was left. Kurama looked to be buried under the rubble, he had gotten lucky. The plant was no more, the blast had continued into the next room and outside.

His eyes turned to the girl sitting on the floor, he could sense that most her power was still dormant. Yet she was already that powerful. His senses picked up the rest of Koenma's team heading back towards them. He bent over to retrieve her, he wouldn't be leaving without her. She belonged to him, as well as the power she contained. "Come before they give chase."

Kagome felt herself being picked up by her captor. She thought of struggling then looked over at the man that was starting to work his way out the rubble. Karasu had said them, which meant there was more of them. She didn't know who they were but that one had tried to kill her. Her arm went around his neck as he looked around. "Just go, I can cover our scent and energy."

He looked down at her before taking off out the front door. He landed on the rubble on top the fox, a laugh escaped him when he heard the groan of pain. As soon as he was outside he felt some type of barrier go around them.

Hiei stared at the place the portal had been and swore. That bastard had managed to get away by using his sister as a damn hostage. The fire youkai growled in frustration. He was going to enjoy tearing that man apart.

A sudden boost of power caused him to turn around, then he felt the massive energy source. He'd never felt anything like it before and it was all holy. His instincts told him it was coming from where he'd left his friend. He took off running towards it.

Yusuke and Kuwabara were running with the girls in their arms when they felt it. They stopped in their tracks. Kuwabara spoke first, "What the hell is that man?"

"I don't know. Let's go, something tells me it isn't good."

Kurama pushed the last bit of debree off himself and thanked the gods that he was still alive. He took in the devastation around himself. Koenma had said that most of her power was still dormant. He tried to locate the two since they were no longer in the building. The man had laughed as he'd taken off with the girl. "Shit."

"Are you okay?" Hiei asked as he landed next to him.

"Alive, by chance I assure you." He stood up dusting his pants off.

"Wow, what the hell happened here?" Yusuke came running into the room. "What the fuck? Did Karasu go bomb happy or something?"

"Dude you don't look so good." Kuwabara looked at Youko.

"Well, I'm very lucky to be alive after that. To answer your question, no. The girl actually did this much damage, she nearly killed me to say the least." He plucked a piece marble out his hair.

"What did you do?" Hiei asked.

"Perceptive as always. My death plant decided it liked her when she came running into the room. Her defenses caused this damage. And to think most of her power hasn't surfaced yet."

"We can't find any of the others." Yusuke stated. "I'm sorry you two."

"Bui has Yukina, he made off with her." Hiei grunted.

"What you let him get away with her." Kuwabara shouted right into Shizuru's ear.

"I had no choice he was using her as a hostage you fool. Karasu no doubt has Kurama's mother somewhere and I'm assuming he took the miko as well."

"Yes."

"I can't sense either of them. The girl is more than likely shielding herself thanks to you attacking her." Hiei growled, this made things worse.

"It was an accident." Kurama looked over at the two girls they had managed to recover. Shizuru looked beat up but Keiko looked fine but asleep. "Are you two girls okay?"

"She may be but something is wrong with the other girl." Hiei looked her over and walked over. "Give her here dammit."

"What the fuck Hiei." Yusuke reluctantly handed her over.

He opened up his jagan and searched her, he looked up at Shizuru. "What the hell happened to her? I can't see any damage to her body." The other woman lowered her head not being able to speak.

"What is it Hiei?" Kurama didn't like the look on his face.

"Whatever happened to her was great enough to force her soul to leave her body. Most of her soul is gone, there's barely enough here to keep the body alive."

"Something came out her mouth when..." Tears streamed down Shizuru's face as she thought about it.

"Dammit, what happened?" Yusuke screamed at her.

"She thought you were raping her."
