Unexpected Events


"I see both of you are still alive but not for long."

Rin looked up in time to see a sword coming down through the dust heading straight for Shizuru who was on her knees. Rin jumped on the girl knocking her back on the ground. The sword came down cutting her across the back, she cried out from the pain.

Shizuru felt weight landing on her back sending her flat on her stomach once again. She heard Rin's cry, as the girl landed on top of her. She turned around and saw nothing as the dust cleared. What had attacked them? She heard nothing but her senses told her something was still here.

Rin felt the pain blazing in her back, she tried to climb off the girl. "Run, he's behind me."

Shizuru looked up but still didn't see anything. "I don't see anything."

Rin glanced behind her and her eyes widened. Floating several feet above them was a youkai. "Right there."

The others tried to run over. Kouga hit the barrier first sending him into Yusuke. Hiei was the next to hit it, he landed on his feet. Kagome sensed the barrier, she turned to Hiei. "I'll try to bring it down, someone fetch my bow quick." Kouga ran off.

The youkai glanced down, the fools wouldn't get his barrier down. Not in time anyways. He'd been sent to kill the small girl but the tall girl would have to die with her. He looked down and noticed the small girl was looking right at him. "Impossible, how can a mere human see me?"

"Who are you?"

"You can hear me too, interesting. Not that it will matter once you are dead."

They all heard Rin talk and looked around but they couldn't see or hear anything.

Shizuru looked in the same direction Rin was speaking, she couldn't see or hear but she could sense it. "Rin, come on."

Rin watched as he sheathed his sword and grinned. He summoned a whip into his hand. "I wonder, you already took the blow meant for your friend. How much pain are you willing to endure for her? Let's find out." He cackled seeing Shizuru trying to move away. She made it to her knees facing him. He brought it down aiming straight for her head.

Rin moved faster than her humanity should have allowed. It cracked across her back as she held Shizuru to her. Shizuru heard the crack of the whip and Rin's hiss of pain. "Let me go Rin." The girl had somehow immobolized her simply by placing her hand against her head.

"I will enjoy this," He brought the whip down again, watching the shirt tear revealing the soft skin below. He struck again drawing blood.

"Rin let me up dammit."

"No, he'll kill you." She closed her eyes as the whip lashed across her shoulder.

"Damn it, what's happening in there. What the fuck is hitting her?" Yusuke tried shooting his reigun into the barrier, it was absorbed.

Kagome saw droplets of blood slinging threw the air as Rin screamed once more. "I can't see anything."

"Something's there I can sense it." Hiei tried to get through once more.

Rin felt like her back was on fire, she could feel the blood running down her back to drip down her legs. 'Why can't they see him?' She turned her head to look at Kagome. Kouga was handing her the bow and arrows. But how would the girl know what to shoot at? The whip came down far enough to cut into her throat. She instantly felt the blood pool down her chest. She stared at the girl until she caught her eyes. She mouthed three words, "Hit the blood." She brought her hand up as it pelted her skin again. It was instantly soaked in her blood, she waited for the whip to come down again. As soon as she felt the sting she turned. She thrust her hand up, slinging the blood pelting him in the face and chest with it.

Kagome had her arrow notched and waited. The girl turned around slinging blood up. Instead of falling to the ground it landed on something in the air. She released the arrow aiming for the blood.

He snarled when he felt the blood hit his face, "You bitch, you'll die." He heard a hissing sound and turned as the arrow broke through the barrier. "Shit," it hit him in the chest, his body was torn assunder, his head fell to the ground.

They watched as the arrow crossed the barrier and collided with something. Rin fell to the ground the same time the head did. She fell to her knees in front of Shizuru. The barrier fell also allowing them to move forward. Hiei was the first to her side, her head was resting on Shizuru's chest.

Shizuru felt tears coming to her eyes, "Rin, Rin, please don't die."

Genkai was there moving them out her way bringing Yukina with her. "Move, so we can see to her."

Yukina went down on her knees as Genkai tried to remove her shirt without dislodging her from Shizuru's chest. She lifted the shirt and she stared. "What the hell?"

Everyone watched as her wounds proceeded to heal on their own. No scabbing or bruising, but resembling a ziploc bag or zipper. They were just closing. Several minutes later they were staring at a bloody but otherwise untouched back. Genkai was still worried over her loss of blood, "Lets get her inside and cleaned up."

"How the hell did she do that?" Kuwabara asked but no one payed him any attention.

Hiei picked the girl up before anyone else could. Kagome ran to Shizuru, "Are you okay? Did you get hit?"

"No, I'm a little sore but she took the blow meant to end my life. Twice, I think. I don't know I couldn't see or hear shit. But I'm sure that was him." She pointed to the head laying on the ground. Everyone finally noticed the decapitated head.

"Gross," Kuwabara went and nudged it with his foot. "Think it's dead?"

Yusuke brought a foot down smashing it, blood squirted out landing on Kuwabara's pant leg. "He is now."

"Dammit, Yurameshi. Now I have his brains all over my pants."

Genkai had Hiei take the girl to the bathroom and lay her in the tub, then ordered him out. She arched an eyebrow when he stayed planted to the spot.

"Fine." He walked out.

Yukina shut the door and went to retrieve some towels. She also went into the girl's bedroom and took out something to dress her in. She was back at the bathroom and saw Hiei leaning against the wall. She smiled at him, "I'm sure she's going to be okay."

He glanced at her. "What makes you think I care?"

"Don't you." She opened the door letting herself in. Who was he trying to kid? Genkai had the water running as she set the towels and clothing down. "I brought you a rag. Need any help?"

"Yeah hold her up so we can get her unclothed." Genkai sighed when the water was already red. It took a total of fifteen minutes for them to get her clean and into fresh clothing.

The old lady walked out the bathroom carrying her, she wasn't suprised to see Hiei still standing in the hallway. "Here lay her in bed, I need to clean up in here and change." She handed her over.

Hiei took the girl, he looked down to see that she was very pale but alive.
