Getting To Know You

The next day came and Kagome found herself waiting for nighttime to come. She wasn't sure why. It might have been the fact that Koronue was easy to talk to. He was an outsider, so he wasn't biased about the things she might talk about. Then again it might have been the fact that he was male and not once had he called her a bitch or tried to grope her. The only person she could talk to was Sango but the girl had so many problems of her own to deal with. She loved her traveling companions but having a pleasant conversation with them was almost impossible.

Right before sunset, they came across a village. Miroku wanted to stop there for the night so they swung by. Kagome wondered if she'd be able to get away and talk to Koronue again. As soon as the elder saw the houshi he ran out, they were soon hired to take care of the demons coming at night to attack them. Kikyo made her excuses to leave for the night, time to steal some souls. Kagome tried not to care as long as she didn't come after hers.

The elder said it was fly youkai, they'd come in swarms taking away a few people everynight. They'd attacked two nights in a row, the houshi was the answer to their prayers. So they were set up to wait until nightfall. Sango was cleaning the Hiraikotsu, so she could bloody it once more with Miroku's skull. The houshi was standing outside giving 'readings' to the village ladies.

Kagome sat on the wooden steps looking into the night sky, her bow ready. Inuyasha hadn't really spoken to her since that day. It was okay, she understood. Now that she had brought Kikyo into their mist she had sealed the end of her and Inuyasha's relationship. One of the girl's started laughing and threw her arms around the houshi causing Sango to glare.

Kagome felt like kicking the hentai in his head. He'd asked Sango to marry him yet continued to flirt with other women in front of her. She didn't care what Miroku said there was nothing innocent about the way the girl was hugging him. A buzzing sound was heard in the distance, they were coming. The women heard it and ran away from the houshi like he had the plaque.

Kagome stood as did Inuyasha, Sango stepped beside them. "They're coming. Whatever happens we have to protect the people of the village."

"Sango's right." Kagome told Shippo to go inside with Kirara.

Within minutes the swarm appeared, and Inuyasha took out his fang. "Kagome, you and Sango see to the villagers. I'm going to take out their leader. A pack like this always has one, they can't organize otherwise."

"Right."

Most of the villagers were inside hiding until the threat had been taken care of. A woman came out screaming for her son, searching desperately for him. One of the youkai swept down aiming for the woman, Kagome released an arrow. She sighed when the woman was safe, she ran up to her. "Get back inside we will find him." She nodded, praying that they'd find him alive.

The fly youkai started swarming around the four fighters. "I'll take care of this right now." Inuyasha unleashed the power of the tetsusiaga. Buzzing noise could be heard as the remaining few called out. "Hmmm, lets see how they react to that."

Suddenly, a youkai showed up twice the size as the others. "So, you're the leader?" Inuyasha looked him over. "Prepare to die bastard." The few remaining tried to grab what food they could. Kagome sat back and watched. Sango was a good bit away killing them as they came down. Miroku did the same, leaving Kagome to wait until she was needed. She didn't have to wait long.

A boy was screaming somewhere. Kagome looked up to see the boy being carried off into the sky. Everyone else was occupied, "Kirara." The cat charged out and looked up into the sky knowing what was needed. Kagome hopped on the cat. "Lets go." They took off into the sky after the insect leaving the others to deal with the rest.

Kirara was quickly catching up to fly and the boy was screaming. His small arms and legs swinging wildly trying to regain his freedom. When they got within range, "You're going to have to catch him." The cat bobbed her head in acknowledgement. "Here goes," the arrow soared across the sky killing it. The cat dove for the boy as he fell, she put herself under him. He fell into Kagome's waiting arms. "Gotcha. Hold on, Kirara look." Coming up behind them was a few of the flies.

The cat took off, trying to get them to safety. Kagome felt her heart drop when she saw one was the leader. He'd gotten away from Inuyasha somehow and was heading for them. "Get us out of here." She turned to the little boy who had a death grip on her. He looked to be around six or seven. "I need you to turn around and hold on to Kirara, I may have to use my arms."

He nodded and she helped him get seated. Kagome knew the boy was scared but he was trying to be brave. She just hoped the neko had hair left on her neck once the boy got off. "We need to get back to the village." The cat took off making a circle around the demons. She wasn't suprised when they started turning, they were after them. No doubt trying to grab a quick meal while running for their lives.

The leader appeared to be as fast as Kirara and was closing in. "Shit, we can't outrun him. Don't let go." The boy buried his head into the cat's neck. Kagome notched an arrow and let it soar. It got within inches of the youkai and he spit out some kind of acid destroying the arrow.

The leader stopped when the path to his prey was blocked. A bat youkai was in front of him, his arm came out in one swift movement. The fly's head was torn from his body. The other's watched as their leader was decapitated in a single swing. They turned around and flew off.

Kagome had been scared when Koronue suddenly appeared putting himself in harm's way. She sighed in relief when he easily killed the youkai. "Kirara take us over there." The neko flew over pulling up beside the man. Kagome knew he sensed her, "Sorry, I'm a little late."

"Hn. I saw. Tell me would you try to save the world?"

"Yes, wouldn't you?" She gave him a big grin.

"No, I'm afraid my heart isn't that big." He turned to look at her. Her hair was windblown and her cheeks flushed from the battle. "Beautiful."

Kagome blushed, surely he wasn't refering to her. No one had ever called her that. Inuyasha had once called her cute but never beautiful. Well, there was Kouga's attentions but they didn't count. "I need to take him back to the village."

"Very well. Tomorrow?"

"Sure." The neko took off towards the village. Kagome couldn't help but turn around and take one last glance at the man watching her go.

Kikyo joined them the next morning as they set out, looking better after devouring new souls. The mother thanked Kagome for going out her way to save the little boy. Kagome smiled as the little boy called her wonderful and kissed her on the cheek. Unknown to all Koronue watched as they left and began their journey. Kagome was walking with Shippo on her shoulder, she was happy for his company. The little kit chatted away making her smile.

The day went by too slow for Kagome, she found herself thinking of this evening. What would she tell the others? Should she tell them anything? Would he want to speak to her again after tonight?

Evening came and they soon set up camp for the night. She fixed lunch for everyone but Kikyo. She was probably still full. Kagome ate nervously, she could feel eyes wathching her. She prayed she wouldn't accidently belch. Deciding she had enough, "I'm going to take a walk, I won't be long."

"Fine but don't go far." Inuyasha went back to his food.

Kagome walked into the woods opposite of where she felt the eyes. Let him come to her, which he did. She was leaning against a tree when he dropped down. "You know it's rude to stare."

"Sorry, I was merely observing." He stated.

"Interested in my table manners?"

"It's nice to see you have some." He folded his arms in front of him mocking her. "That hanyou has the table manners of a dog."

She laughed, it was true. She couldn't count how many times she's told him not to talk with his mouth full of food. "Believe it or not my kid brother is just as bad."

"Thats hard to imagine. Though I have to admit I'm not as refined as Youko."

"That could be a good thing though. No one likes a tight ass." She saw the look of shock on his face.

"Thats a matter of opinion." He saw the blush cross her face.

"I can't believe you just said that. I don't even want to know." She covered her ears when he opened his mouth. "Nope don't wanna hear it."

He started laughing at her embarrassment. She was simply adorable. "Okay, I won't say anything."

"Thank you, you're almost as bad as the houshi. Guess I should count my blessings that you haven't tried to grope me yet." The instance she said it she saw the change in his eyes. She felt herself being pulled into his arms, his hands actually stayed on her shoulders. He lowered his head and she closed her eyes. His lips barely brushed hers and he pulled back.

"Will you come tomorrow?"

She opened her eyes, "Yes." She walked back to camp, placing her fingers to touch her lips. She could still feel it.
