AN: I found the name for Leiko off the net, it supposedly means arrogant. Which she will kind of show throughout the story. I originally started thinking about it being a In/Oc pairing but I love the idea of Sesshy and Kagome.

Chapter Nine

"Look out Kagome!" Inuyasha yelled as the demon sent a blast of ice towards the girl. She ran in time to miss being impaled. Once again they were being attacked for their single shard. Miroku and Sango were sitting on top of Kirara unable to move. They were trapped inside some kind of ice block. The taijiya was chipping away at it with her large weapon. Shippo was in the girl's arms, scared out of his mind. Inuyasha's leg was covered with ice causing his movements to be slow. He couldn't unleash the wind scar because he was in his human form. It was the night of the new moon.

He jumped back when the demon spat more ice at him. He felt himself fall to the ground as it surrounded both legs. It ran up to midwaist, he couldn't move. The demon laughed at how easy this victory had been. Now he would take the shard from the girl.

"Kagome, run." Inuyasha yelled. He started bringing the rusty fang down to try and break the ice.

The girl turned and ran as fast as her legs could carry her. Branches stung her face and Shippo was screaming. The little kit could hear him tearing through the trees. His laughter filled the air, a spear of ice flew past the girl.

"Kagome, he's behind you."

She turned in time to see him before he struck her across the face. Her back hit the ground and Shippo went flying out her arms. "Ow..." He was glaring at her, she knew he'd enjoy killing her.

"Time to die girl." He shot a blast of ice towards her.

Kagome screamed seeing her death in his eyes. An arrow caught the ice halfway between the two. It exploded causing cubes to fly everywhere. The demon turned in the direction it had come from. "Who the fuck are you?" Another arrow soared across the distance imbedding itself in his left eye. Kagome watched it hit him in the socket and his head turned to ash. He fell to his knees landing in a thud in front of her.

Shippo ran to her side, "Are you okay Kagome?"

"Yes, look." She was looking between two trees. She could see the long black hair blowing in the breeze. No face could be seen, the darkness covering up her indentity.

"Is that Kikyo?" Shippo asked.

"No, it's not." Kagome knew who it was. First, Kikyo would never go out of her way to just save Kagome. Second, the girl had waved before departing.

Inuyasha felt the ice evaporate suddenly. He ran to find Kagome. The others were right behind him. "Kagome, where are you?" He cursed, 'Damn where is she?'

"Inuyasha," her voice was coming to his left. He cleared the bush to find her standing next to the corpse. He ran up to her pulling her in his embrace. "Are you okay?"

"We are fine." She looked past him into the trees.

"Looks like she was able to get a shot off. Good job." Miroku patted her on the back. "Knew we could depend on you."

"But she didn't kill him." Shippo stated. Everyone turned to the kit standing a few feet away looking towards the same spot as the girl.

"Is this true?" She just shook her head at the houshi.

"Kikyo," the hanyou whispered but everyone heard.

Kagome suddenly saw red. Everything was Kikyo, Kikyo, Kikyo! Like she would ever help Kagome. Yet when something like this happened, he would automatically assume that his precious Kikyo had been the one to save the day. She wasn't that great dammit! She could see Inuyasha staring off in the same direction as Shippo. Probably debating if he should go after her. Well she had news for him. "Get over it already." She shoved him away from her. His eyes were huge as she let him have it. "I'll have you know that I may not have killed him but neither did your precious Kikyo. That's why you don't smell or sense her. Cause she is nowhere near here. Me and Shippo owe our lives to someone but it isn't her. Got it?"

"Yeah right, if you didn't kill him then the only one that could have was her." He yelled back.

"Sit," He landed with a thud. "She isn't that fucking special you know. I saw who saved me and Shippo and it wasn't her. Since you are such a jerk I won't tell you who it was."

"Kagome, if it wasn't Kikyo then who was it?" Sango asked. She knew the girl would tell her.

"It was Leiko."

"Kagome, are you sure it wasn't Kikyo." Miroku asked.

She turned her blazing eyes towards him, "Don't question me dammit. I know who saved my life. Kikyo wouldn't spit on me if I was on fire." She left them there storming off towards the trees the girl had been standing a moment before.

Leiko watched as they conversed, well shouted. A smile passed her lips at seeing the girl speak one word causing the hanyou to eat dirt. Who was this Kikyo? She'd been led to believe that this strange girl was his woman but whomever Kikyo was Inuyasha seemed to think highly of her. The girl was heading her way and she debated leaving.

She waited for the girl to speak, "Leiko? Are you still here?"

Leiko studied her for several seconds before answering. The girl was actually pretty, her eyes held a kindness so she couldn't find it in herself to automatically hate the girl. "Yes." She stepped out so the girl would see her.

Kagome smiled when she saw her. Despite what Inuyasha believed Kagome knew she wasn't working with Naraku. Her eyes spoke of compassion and a good heart. There was also strength and determination there. "I just wanted to thank you for saving me and Shippo."

"Think nothing of it." They could both hear Inuyasha yelling for the girl.

"Kagome where the hell did you run off to?"

"Mind if I ask what you are doing here?" Kagome knew she was being bold but something told her the girl wouldn't be offended.

"No moon." The hanyou/human was coming closer. "Farewell, Kagome." She turned and walked away.

'It's a moonless night. That's right she would know of Inuyasha's secret. Did that mean she had been hanging around because of Inuyasha?' The hanyou came stepping out from behind a tree.

"There you are dammit, what the hell do you think you were doing running off like that?" His concern was evident in his voice. "If it had been her, you were putting yourself in harms way. She was probably aiming for your head and missed. Seems her archery is as bad as yours."

"Shut up!" Kagome walked back to where the others were waiting. As soon as they were next to others Kagome turned on him, "Oh yeah, SIT!"

Leiko was sitting on the tree limb watching a deer eat peacefully. It paid no mind to the small woman staring down at him. He sensed no danger so continued to munch on the leaves. Its head snapped up suddenly and it sprinted off in the opposite direction. She sighed to herself, she'd been hoping to get some sleep. It was mid-day but she was tired after keeping an eye on Inuyasha and his group for the whole night.

She felt the evil aura before she saw him. Her eyes gazed down to find none other than Naraku gazing up at her. He had a disappointed look on his face. He didn't speak for several moments, he seemed content to watch as she layed there with her arms behind her head. One leg was hanging off the branch swaying back and forth as she hummed to herself.

"I should kill you."

"You could try." She closed her eyes, she didn't have time for his tantrum.

"I don't care for your attitude."

She turned her head to eye him. "I didn't ask if you did. That is not my concern."

"Why did you let Inuyasha live?"

"I had no reason to kill him. You need to fire whomever does your research. They suck at it."

He grinned. "I see. So are in league with the hanyou now. Do you also seek my death?"

"I owe nothing to Inuyasha but I have no qualms with him. I however owe you for giving me a new body, for that I will not kill you this day for interrupting my nap. Now leave, the only thing I seek is some peace and quiet to get some rest." She closed her eyes once more. She sensed him as he jumped up to yank her down. Instead of moving she let him grab her.

He had her in his arms, staring down at her face. He brought his mouth crashing down on hers. She felt the bile rising in her throat as his tongue slid along her lip. "Very well. After I have destroyed the hanyou, you will return to my side." She didn't answer but sighed when he released her.

She waited until he was gone then ran to the brook and proceeded to vomit.
