Return of the Fallen
Chapter 9
Sesshomaru woke up with the sun in his eyes. ‘Damn… Why were the curtains open?’. He brought his left hand up, shielding the sun from his eyes. When he moved his hand away, he was shocked. The curtains had closed its their own. He looked beside him, and saw Kagome, still sleeping. Sesshomaru imagined that the curtains were open, and within a blink of an eye, they were back open, revealing the sun once more.
Kagome squinted, trying to make it seen like she was still asleep. She held in a giggle as Sesshomaru experimented with his new powers. He was like a child, learning about the different things his body could do. ‘It’s amazing, isn’t it?’. Sesshomaru looked at Kagome, grinning. ‘How did you discover the powers?’.
‘Well, yesterday, after you left me in the study to get dressed, I stayed for a while, to catch my breath. When I got up to get dressed, I realized that my clothes had found their way on to my body on their own. From there, I thought, why don’t I try something else? So I imaged that I was in the hot springs. Lo and behold, there I was’.
‘Why didn’t you tell?’, Sesshomaru demanded. ‘I wanted to see what your facial expression would be like!’. Kagome replied, holding back her giggles.
Sesshomaru’s eyes narrowed. He never wanted to show his weakness for love, but somehow Kagome was able to break his cold exterior, using love. Now that he had also shown emotion to curiosity and wonder, it frustrated him. He got out of bed, and willed for his clothes to be on him, then stomped off, out of the bedroom.
Kagome stared at where Sesshomaru lay. Somehow, she wasn’t mad at him, but instead, was amused by him. Images of an arrogant, child-like Sesshomaru went through her head, and she burst out into laughter. She turned her head into her pillow, stifling the laughs. She knew that if Sesshomaru heard her laughing, there would be trouble.
~In the Eastern Lands~
Takumi now had at least a hundred demons in front of him. Kagura had done well, and he knew that all that was left to do was find his mate. It was going to take a long time, but it was the only way.
~In the Western Lands~
‘Umm… Pardon me for interrupting your work, Sesshomaru-sama’. Sesshomaru looked up from his work, and stared at the old toad. He was in a vile mood, especially since he had heard Kagome’s burst of laughter. He would’ve gone back to deal with her, but his workload was increasing by the minute, and he needed to finish up.
‘What is it, Jaken?’, he replied. ‘Ah… Rin has come back from the academy, and is here to see you’. Sesshomaru’s mind turned blank for a moment. Rin. He had forgotten about her since he sent her to an academy 2 years ago. He was very fond of her, but her change in behavior as she grew older, set off his inner demon. He had no choice but to send her away if he wanted to keep her alive.
‘Would you like to see her?’, Jaken asked timidly. Sesshomaru closed his eyes, and willed for Rin to come up. Immediately, Rin was then standing in front of him. ‘Oh my! What happened?’. Rin looked around puzzled. When she saw Sesshomaru, she quickly bowed down to him, ‘It has been a long time… Lord Sesshomaru’.
~In the Lands of the Battle with Naraku~
Urasue found the bones of the half-demon and the priestess. She had perfected her technique in bringing back the dead. Now, they would not require soul stealers, and could almost live a normal life. She had been disappointed when Kikyo had died, but she was not ready to give up on the miko. If the half-demon was the reason why Kikyo left, then she would brink back the half-demon as well…
‘Heh… Both of you will do just fine being my slaves…’.
~In the Western Lands~
Rin jumped up, and ran to Sesshomaru. ‘I loved you, Lord Sesshomaru, why did you send me to the academy? Why did you make me leave you? You knew that I wanted to stay with you for an eternity… So why?!?’.
Sesshomaru looked at the crying girl in front of him. ‘Rin. Apparently, the academy hasn’t taught you very much’. She looked up at him, ‘What are you talking about?!?’. ‘I never said you could rise. You haven’t realized my change in rank. And lastly, you haven’t realized that I am mated.’
Rin stepped back as if he had slapped her. She bowed her head back down, ‘I’m… I’m sorry… I apologize for my behavior and my lack of knowledge’.
‘You may leave now, and meet my new mate’. In an instant, she disappeared, leaving Sesshomaru at peace to work, and a gawking Jaken.
‘Ahh… The hot springs is just heavenly’. The goddess sank into the warm waters, unaware of the confused guest who had arrived. Testing her new powers, she wondered how long she would be able to stay underwater. She swam around in the water, amazed at her endurance. ‘I could really get used to this’, she said as she got out of the water.
‘Kagome?’. The goddess looked up to see a brown-eyed girl, staring at her. ‘Rin-chan!’. Kagome got out and hugged the girl. ‘I haven’t seen you in ages! How have you been?’. Rin gasped as she realized that Kagome was already fully clothed. Kagome released the young girl, and laughed when she saw her surprised look.
Kagome tugged at her clothing, ‘You’re wondering how they got on right? Here, why don’t we go to the dining room? You must be hungry from your journey back from the academy.’ Rin stared at her with wide eyes, ‘How did you know?’. ‘Oh… Heh… I’ll explain on the way…’.
Sesshomaru gave all the finished documents to Jaken, clearing off his desk. An old document caught his eye, and when he saw what it was, he grinned evilly. Jaken stared at his master, shivering at the grin. He held on to the documents and ran off. He didn’t want to die just yet.
‘So, that’s what has happened these past days.’ The two females leaned back, relaxing after the appetizing meal. Suddenly, Kagome was lifted into the air, and began waltzing around. ‘Whoa! What’s happening!’ Kagome cried, as her body spun around.
Sesshomaru walked through the dining room doors, and merely looked at her, but Kagome could read what his thoughts were. ‘Kagome, this is payback for laughing at me this morning’ he said, telepathically. The voice was cold and monotonous, but it had a hint of mischief in it.
‘Two can play at this game, Sesshomaru-sama…’, Kagome retorted as she lifted Sesshomaru off the ground. The two gods dueled each battled each other, learning different abilities as they fought.
By this time, Run had gathered most of the servants, whom were now watching the duel of gods. ‘It’s a stale mate, Sesshomaru. You might as well give it up’, Kagome yelled as they sent roaring hurricanes at each other.
The servants gasped as they saw the dining room get torn to bits, along with the rest of the building above it. Sesshomaru sent a large blast of energy towards Kagome, who did the exact same thing in response. The two orbs met in the middle of the room, then fused together.
Suddenly, a whip of light shot out from Sesshomaru’s fingertip, hurling the ball of light towards Kagome. Knowing that she would not be able to avoid the attack, she put up a barrier, and waited for the energy to dissipate.
When all the dust settled, the two gods stood amongst the remains of the castle, both covered in sweat, but grinning from ear to ear. Well, as far as grinning from ear to ear went for Sesshomaru. He was not going to show unnecessary emotion. The only one who needed to know how he felt was Kagome, and he knew that she could understand completely.
‘Well done! That must have been the most amazing battle since Midoriko’s time!’. Kagome and Sesshomaru looked over to see the elder whom had come to visit. The old man bowed down, then said, ‘By now, you have probably figured out why I’m here. I’m not too sure how to explain the situation, so you might as well listen to the exact words of the Lord’. The elder closed his eyes, remembering the scene, allowing the two gods to revisit the scene.
~An hour before~
‘Elder Takashi, I really appreciate the time you have taken from your busy schedule to come visit me. I have a favor to ask of you, if I may?’. The elder nodded. ‘After seeing the love and passion between Lord Sesshomaru and Lady Kagome, it made me think about the people that I held dearly to my heart. I realized that there were so many demonesses that I loved, and that I could never pick one for the other, so… I’ve decided to mate with all of them…’.
‘You do know that this is against kami’s rules. It states clearly that all demons are entitled to only ONE mate’. ‘Yes elder, that is why I must ask of you to not mention it to Lord Sesshomaru and Lady Kagome. I understand that it is a taboo, but I am truly split between all the demonesses.’
~End of Memory Transfer~
‘Although Lord Takumi told me not to mention it, this rose a suspicion in my mind. Lord Takumi had always been the one whom stayed behind the line. I would expect this of the twins, but, never him’.
Kagome and Sesshomaru looked at each other. Finally speaking, ‘Thank you elder, for this news. We will assure that Lord Takumi will be of no harm to you or the others’ Kagome replied.
‘Your kindness is greatly appreciated, my Lady. I will leave now, so that Lord Takumi will not know’. With that, the elderly demon left the castle. ‘Umm… Sesshomaru?’. The demon god looked at his mate. ‘I think we have to cleanup. He looked around and then closed his eyes. As if time was going backwards, the palace began to rebuild itself. ‘Come Kagome, we have to plan for our little visit to Lord Takumi…’.
~In the Mountains~
‘Argh… Why do I feel like shit?’ Inuyasha rubbed his head and looked around. He was surrounded by mist, his clothing was gone, and his whole body ached. He propped himself against a tree, and tried to remember what had happened.
His eyes widened as he remembered scenes from Naraku’s battle. He sniffed the air, and the scent of clay filled his nose. ‘Could that be… Kikyo?’, Inuyasha stood up and sniffed the air again. He realized that he was covered with the stench of clay. ‘Did I have sex… with…?’, Inuyasha closed his eyes. He knew that they didn’t have sex.
The last thing that he could remember was an image of Kagome crying, as she held him. His heart then felt like it was being torn out and stabbed with guilt, as he remembered the last words he had spoken. He searched around frantically for his clothing, and as soon as he found them, he hurried to put them on.
‘Inuyasha…’, the half-demon looked up to see Kikyo. ‘What’s the rush? Were you looking for me? If you were, here I am, my love. We can live together now, just like we wanted to 50 years ago.’
‘Kikyo… My feelings have changed. I know that I promised you, but… I just can’t forget about Kagome. She did so much for me, and I’ve really bonded with her.’ Inuyasha explained.
‘You bastard… How could you compare my reincarnation to me? How could you just throw away the promise, the love, and the future we had?’. ‘I’m sorry…’. Inuyasha ran off without a back glance, leaving Kikyo.
An old voice spoke behind Kikyo. ‘I thought you liked the half-demon…’. ‘Once upon a time, I did. I loved him with all my heart. But that was when I was human. Now that I am dead, and have been given the chance to live again, I’m going to make the most of it. I’m all about lust now, and the one I’m going after isn’t that useless half-demon, it’s…’
