8. Falling

Chapter Eight

Kagome spent the next two weeks spending her days with Kurama. It took her over an hour to convince him to keep training her. So during the day he tought her how to defend herself the best to her ability. He decided her best defense would be to train her touch to be a weapon. So they also worked on her calling her purification powers to hand. Her nights were spent with Hiei in her room. He would come in after she retired and joined her on the bed. (Not doing that you pervs!) They would sit up for hours and talk, some nights longer than others. He would sit beside her until she fell asleep then take a spot on the floor sleeping near. Twice she had fallen asleep laying her head against his shoulder but he never complained.

Kagome knew she was slowly falling for both demons which left her thoughts in turmoil. She didn't bring up her feelings to either one. If they were anything like Inuyasha or Kouga they might start fighting. She knew that both of them cared for her. But she couldn't bring herself to chose and she knew she couldn't have both. Her and Keiko became closer as friends. It was nice to have a girl to talk to that could understand what she was going through. She was getting to know the others as well and found she liked them all. Kuwabara tended to get on her nerves, his loving heart helped her over look his obnoxiousness. She felt her heart go out to Keiko who seemed to be settling with Yusuke. Her friend had a fiesty spirit, one that should be stoked not repressed. But who was she to tell her friend what was best for her. Not when she couldn't handle her own love life.

Her dreams were filled with either a green eyed or red eyed demon. Sometimes she knew she was losing it because some dreams she was with both. Screw the kissing, these dreams were good enough for any porn film. It was obvious she was becoming a tart. Neither man had tried to kiss her again. She often wondered if they both had lost interest in her. They probably sensed her flakiness and decided to leave her alone.

Once again she was making her way towards the dojo to train with Kurama. He was waiting for her when she entered. She stopped in her tracks seeing that he wasn't wearing a shirt only pants. True it was hot but how the hell was she suppose to concentrate with him showing off like that.

He'd felt her come in and pause. He had been meditating while waiting for her. It had been hot so he'd taken off his shirt earlier. Her gaze was lingering on his chest taking in every inch. "Like what you see Kagome?"

She blushed to her roots, well two could play at that game. Under her tank top she had on a sports bra. "I was just thinking that seemed like a great idea actually. It is very hot today for some reason." She pulled the tank top off in one swift move. His gasp was heard even by her. 'Take that.'

Kurama felt his blood stir when she pulled her shirt off revealing a very tight sports bra underneath. He knew it was common for women to work out in them. Seeing her in one caused an instant hard on. Her firm round breasts filled out the damn thing leaving no room for imagination. He felt like kicking himself in the ass for teasing her now.

She walked over to him, "Ready when you are fox."

The training lasted for about ten minutes. Kurama was trying to teach her how to break free if she were ever grabbed from behind. He placed his arm around her neck pulling her against him. He glanced down to speak to her and got a view of the tops of her breast. He groaned as his second head sprang to live and began to sing. When he just stood there she tilted her head up to look at him. He brought his mouth down to capture hers. She felt her pulse quicken as she returned the kiss. Once again the strange sensations began cursing through her body. His other hand grabbed her hip pulling her against him. There was no doubt in her mind what was digging into her lower back. A growl broke the two apart.

Kagome heard the growl. She broke from Kurama to find Hiei standing in the doorway. The demon looked absolutely pissed. She felt her heart drop to her knees. She grabbed her shirt and ran out the door not looking at either one. She didn't stop till she was in the woods by herself.

Her shirt was quickly yanked back over her head. She ran till her chest hurt. She wasn't sure how far away from the temple she was but it didn't matter. She couldn't go back. Landing beside a fallen tree, she let the tears fall. How could she face them again? She had felt her feelings growing for both of them and didn't try to stop it. 'I betrayed both of them. In a way I was playing them. Will that destroy their friendship? I saw how close they were from the images that one night.' How could she be so stupid not realising that she would one day have to chose. No matter what decision she made it would most likely tear the two apart.

A twig snapped to her left causing her to jerk her head up. Standing not ten feet from her was Kanna. The small pale girl that was once under Naraku's control. She held her mirror before her. Kagome felt the tug at her soul as the mirror beckoned. She tried to stand but fell back to her knees. 'Someone, help me.' She sent the silent prayer hoping someone one hear her.

Hiei watched her flee. He turned his anger towards the fox. "I thought we had an agreement."

"We did. I'm sorry Hiei. Today was the first time," Kurama let his friend see in his soul to know that he was speaking the truth. "It just happened. I haven't touched her since we agreed."

"Very well. What do we do now? She will believe now that she has to chose."

Kurama knew Hiei was right. "Knowing Kagome she won't, she will chose neither to prevent hurting the other. I think we should speak to her."

Hiei was about to comment when his jagan opened on his own. "Someone, help me." It was Kagome's voice. "Dammit," he took off. Kurama was fast behind him.

Kagome tried to move as the demon continued to suck her soul into the mirror. She felt her life being drained as her soul left her body. The jewel begin to pulse on its own. She tried pulling her soul back but she was too weak. She felt darkness begin to surround her. 'I'm going to die.'

Hiei had a hard time sensing where she was and they couldn't sense a demon anywhere. He stopped and Kurama stopped beside him. Then he heard her in his mind. "I'm going to die." He cursed, "Fuck, we got to find her now." He tried talking to her, 'Hold on, we are coming.'

Kagome was sure she heard Hiei's voice. 'I'm sorry, but I love you both.' She felt the rest of her soul leave her as her eyes went blank.

Hiei heard her, then he felt her disappear. "NO." He felt his jagan reacted and he saw her. A strange pale demon was standing over Kagome's body to their left. He charged into the woods. They both entered to see her standing over the girl still holding the mirror.

Kurama saw the mirror over flowing with a presence, "The mirror, destroy the mirror Hiei now."

Hiei didn't need to ask why. He brought his katana down shattering the mirror before the girl could react. His next strike killed the girl who made no move to escape. The shattered mirror fell to the ground.

Kurama bent down to pick the girl up in his arms. "Kagome, call it back." He held her while her soul shot forth finding its way to her body. Her body jerked as life filled her once more. He picked her up as Hiei scanned the area for any possible threat. The fox turned to approach his best friend. "She'll be okay, I think we need to get her to Genki."

They headed back towards the temple both lost in his own thoughts. They had almost lost her because they'd been too busy debating instead of noticing she'd ran off.

Genki met them at the door asking what had happened. They informed her and she quickly took over. After seeing the girl was resting she had all the so called protectors gather around.

"I ought to destroy all of you slackers. Did not one of you notice that the girl had ran off." When no answer came she continued. "Pathetic! She could have just been killed and you were all off goofing around. You were sent here to protect her not for a get together. Get off your lazy asses." She turned to Kurama and Hiei. "You two need to do what needs to be done, before you destroy that innocent girl's spirit."

Kagome woke up noticing night had fallen. The last thing she could remember was her soul being sucked out and Hiei telling her to hold on. 'They must have made it to me in time.' She layed back down feeling drained. Usually at this time Hiei would be with her until she fell asleep. Her eyes swept the room hoping to spot him somewhere watching over her. When it became obvious she was alone, a tight pain tore through her chest. 'Why would he come? He caught me making out with his best friend earlier today. I'm sure neither one wants anything to do with me now. They must think I'm a slut.' This is how Inuyasha must have felt. Having to decide between her and Kikyo. Either choice was sure to cause pain to someone you loved. She loved both of them and she couldn't have them.

Her thoughts drifted back to a time she'd come back to get her backpack she'd left behind in time to hear Inuyasha asking Mirkoku if he could have both. She'd seen red wondering how he could suggest such a thing. Now it was all to clear how he felt the need to ask. Instead of choosing and losing one, she had lost both. She buried her face in her pillow and cried herself to sleep.
She didn't wake up when the fire demon made his way into the room, sitting down beside the bed to watch over her.
