"It is time you were given back what was taken from you. Then you will understand..." The boy stood, grabbing her hand to bid her follow. Kagome weakly gathered herself to stand, the world spinning around her.
Giving her hand a gentle squeeze, the boy led the shaking demoness off into the darkness in search of light.
**On with the story...**
Chapter 8
The Western Lady
Featuring: "A Ghost of You." by Good Charlotte.
With only the gentle tug of the small child to guide her, Kagome continued to struggle on through the darkness that surrounded her. From time to time, her gaze would drop to the boy who led her along so confidently. Surely this was all some terribly confusing dream....right? The demoness struggled for order in her thoughts as she counted her last actions back to herself.
She had been with Sess; of that she was sure. They had been dancing and then they left the floor. A heated blush rose to Kagome's as she slowly began to recall the following moments. The strangest thing was, however, that her memory ceased after Sess's lips had descended over the strange mark on her shoulder. The woman lightly touched the mark with her free hand, lost in thought. There was one name that rang clear in her mind as the face of the handsome Sessho Tashio appeared before her.
"Sesshomaru..." Kagome whispered against the gloom.
Beside her the boy seemed to go rigid, his eyes instantly flying to lock with her own. A small gasp escaped her parted lips as the gold of his eyes flashed, countless emotions dancing in the orbs. A startled expression crashed over Kagome's fair features as another pair of eyes danced before her. Her lips parted in a silent cry of confusion.
"His eyes...why do you have his eyes?" Kagome whispered desperately into the dark, her gaze never leaving the boy's.
"There's someone you should talk to, mother." The child gave an insistent tug on her hand. "She will help."
"No! I want to know why I hear the name Sesshomaru every time I think of Sessho, and I want to know why you have his eyes!" A frantic light grew in the demoness's eyes, while the boy only smiled sympathetically in return. "I have never met Sessho Tashio before today so how the HELL would I be caring his child?!"
"Poor father...you really do keep him on his toes, don't you?" The boy sighed gently; completely ignoring the bewildered look on the woman's paled face. "My teen years will certainly be interesting to say the least..."
"Stop it! How can this be funny in any way?! First you tell me that I'm pregnant and claim to be my son; then you tell me that a great evil is coming!" Kagome released the boy's hand and stepped back, uncertainty and anger creating a wall around her cracked heart.
"Please don't be angry, mother! I just want to help you." Tears began to well in the gold pools that locked on Kagome's shaking form. "I just want you and father to be happy again...like you were before." The sad gaze slowly fell to the floor as Kagome felt her resolve crumble to dust.
Carefully, Kagome reached out a thin hand to rest on the boy's silk-adorned head. The child immediately raised his eyes once more to her own; hope dancing in the depths. A watery smile rose on both pairs of lips as they gazed back at one another. Swallowing heavily, the Western Lady urged the child to continue.
"What do you mean "˜like we were before'?" Kagome inquired softly. As the boy opened his mouth to answer, another voice shot out from the dark.
"Before it was all stolen from us, Kagome."
Kagome's head whipped around, eyes scanning through the dark to place the voice. The endless ebony of their surroundings suddenly began to change. Black swirled and stretched; giving way to an open, green field with an old well at its center. Trees swayed softly in the breeze as the sun danced off the leaves. The buzzing of insects and chirpings of birds lingered in the warm air. Kagome gasped at the sensations of her surroundings; everything felt so real!
I will wait until the end
When the pendralem will swing back to the
darker side of our hearts bleeding
Eyeing the well, Kagome slowly placed a hand on its rim. Odd shivers raced through her as the wind's summer song echoed in its depths. A light shuffle caught her attention and she pivoted to catch the presence. Garnet eyes widened and than narrowed in suspicion as the shadowy figure appeared out of the trees; an amused expression holding her own hard gaze.
I will save this empty space
next to me like its a grave
"Does this place seem familiar to you? I know you can feel it." The shadows melted away as the woman stepped into the clearing.
where I lay a place for us to sleep eternally together
"Who are you?! What the hell do you want from me?!" Kagome stepped forward, shielding the boy while holding back a snarl. Her jaw fell open as the boy raced forward and embraced the woman; the dark silk of her kimono billowing around the small child's form. Only one thing made sense...this had to be her unchecked demon side.
I have been
Searching for
Traces of
What we were
"I believe that we've had this conversation once before and I am not one to repeat myself. You of all people should know that..." The demoness smirked lightly as she held the boy's hand in her own. "So let's skip the speech. We don't have time to play games."
A ghost of you
is all that I have left
is all that I have left of you to hold
"You didn't answer me damn it!" Kagome bellowed at the approaching woman, her legs and arms refusing to either fight or flee.
I wake in the night to find there's no one there but me
and nothing of what we were at all
"It's okay, mother. Let your inner youkai help you get better." The boy whimpered pleadingly.
So here I am
pacing around this house again
With pictures of us living on these walls
"I am sorry for the harsh treatment but this mess must end. Lives are a stake here and I will not let one creature's ill judgments destroy what we have fought to protect." The strange demoness murmured as she raised a digit to press against Kagome's forehead.
I see my breathe in the cold of the air that I breath
and I'm wondering
New heat raged through Kagome's blood as if fire had been poured into her very veins. Blasts of wind engulfed the small clearing as a red glow swallowed the group whole. Kagome's markings began to uncover and glow with new life, white painting her eyes as the flashes began to flood her mind.
I'm wondering if its you that I feel
if its you that I feel
haunting me forever
"The spell may have erased your memories, but not mine. I was kept silent and now that the spell has waned, I can give you what was taken from you...from us." The demoness whispered against the slight howling of the wind.
I have been
Searching for
Traces of
What we were
Another blast of light left Kagome standing in the clearing on her own, only to watch on as a shadow of herself was dragged through the well. The shifting of images only sped up as the sights of Inuyasha as a hanyou and her traveling greeted her; Sango and Miroku as their traveling companions. Darker images of another hanyou, evil and hateful raced across. Naraku...that had been his name. The world seemed to spin in the chaos of the memories. Kagome swooned and fell to one knee, struggling to straighten the path of the images.
A ghost of you
is all that I have left
is all that I have left of you to hold
**At the Shrine**
A light pink glow settled around the Shrine as the occupants tossed in their beds. A light sweat covering their bodies as their minds rebelled against them. Instinctively, Inuyasha and Miroku pulled their wives closer to them. A strange breeze filtered through the trees as eyes darted beneath closed lids. Strained whimpers escaped parched lips as the moon climbed in the sky.
Shippo and Rin tossed and turned endlessly, shifting against the voice that called them to remember. Gasping wildly, Shippo darted up from the nest of blankets and pillows. His sister remained dormant at his side, but continued to murmur and shake in her sleep.
I wake in the night to find there's no one there but me
and nothing of what we were at all
Emerald eyes darted wildly about the dark room, straining to focus against the weak moonlight. Sleep tugged the boy back down to his bed as he fought to organize his last thought while dreaming. Losing his grip on the world of reality, Shippo collapsed against the mattress. His lips whispered against the dark of the unknown as his eyes drifted shut.
"Papa, you found us..."
**Back with Kagome**
The whirl of color and noise settled around the struggling demoness as she stood and looked about her. Her lips parted in an "˜o' as the shadow of her was pulled from a well by what she thought to be Sessho. A lump rose in her throat as the shadow's voice met her ears.
and I'm not looking for
anything but us
anything but what we were
"Sesshomaru..." The girl whispered to the shadow demon, a smile playing on his lips.
and I'm not asking for
any memories
I only want to know you're here
Tightness began to build in Kagome's chest as the pair's interlude continued. Glances of tenderness and affection drifted between the two. The demoness jumped lightly as the youkai of her mind appeared beside her, a sad expression on her face.
A ghost of you
is all that I have left
is all that I have left of you to hold
"To think that you were robbed of this memory...of him. You would be lying if you said you felt nothing right now." The woman said softly, her eyes never leaving the couple. Kagome's felt the small string that had held the darkest parts of her heart shut snap, and felt her blood freeze as a light dawned on her.
I wake in the night to find there's no one there but me
and nothing of what we were at all
A wave crashed in around Kagome as her shadow's lips met the demon lord's in bittersweet passion. Hot, stinging tears welled up in her eyes as the dam of her soul broke free. One hand flew to caress her stomach while the other clamped down over her mating mark. More images began to fly by as she sank to her knees. The final one causing her eyes to bleed red; Sesshomaru's face as she disappeared from his life and was sent to her adoptive time. A roar of pure rage and unabashed sorrow escaped her trembling lips as she sat on the floor of the meadow. The red gaze darted up to meet the ironically cool eyes of her youkai mind.
A ghost of you
is all that I have left
is all that I have left of you to hold
"Who did this to us?" Kagome hissed through her clenched jaw. "Who could do such a thing?"
I wake in the night to find there's no one there but me
Grief seemed to drown her very soul. Sesshomaru had been searching and waiting for her for five-hundred years! The child growing within her womb would have been fatherless, and her clueless of its origin or its existence until the telltale growth! Another sob pushed through Kagome's lips as she stood and took in her surroundings. The demoness of her mind appeared at her side instantly.
and nothing left of what we were at all.
"That is for our mate to tell you..." Youkai Kagome urged, her eyes suddenly hard and focused. "Don't forget...you must keep a clear mind and heart for what is to come."
"I will..." Kagome answered with equal resolve; her own eyes cold and determined.
"Take care, mother." The boys chirped from the youkai's side, his eyes wide and gentle once more.
"You know...you never told me your name." The demoness said as she affectionately patted the boy's head. The child giggled at the attention, his eyes shining with the mischievous glint only his father could teach.
"Kisho." Was the laugh-filled reply. A smile tugged at Kagome's lips as the world faded around her. "See you soon, mother!"
Kagome sighed at the dark took her. Soon she would be back with those she loved and things would be put right again. There were still questions on her part, and blank spots still held parts of her memory. Hopefully the fuzziness of her mind would fade with time. Smiling to herself, Kagome let her hands glide across her torso in a loving embrace.
"I can't wait to meet you for real, Kisho."
**Back to reality!**
"She actually said your name?!" Kouga hissed, careful to check his voice level. Every once in a while he would sneak a nervous glance at Sesshomaru's bedroom door.
"It was her! The old Kagome we fought with and have searched for." Sesshomaru whispered urgently, his eyes holding both joy and terror. She still hadn't woken when Ellie and Kouga had arrived back.
Three o' clock chimed on the clock by the door as the three continued to whisper and murmur in haste. The Southern couple had raced back upon receiving the note and had demanded to see her. Sesshomaru had growled a warning, deeming his mate too fragile to be interrupted from her rest.
"Are you positive, Sess?" Ellie wondered aloud, her own doubts to heavy to simply ignore.
"You think I don't know my own mate, Ellitari?!" Sesshomaru growled out, his eyes narrowing considerably.
"Easy, Sess!" Kouga hissed as he stepped in front of his mate. "Don't take it so personally! Ellie- as well as I am, is simply being cautious and not getting too excited until we're sure."
Sesshomaru merely grunted in annoyance, but froze as the doorknob to his bed room slowly turned and clicked. With bated breath, the three watched as the door was pulled back. Moonlight spilled forth from the bedroom, casting a silver profile about the figure as she emerged. Garnet pools misted and teared as they locked on the frozen form of the Western Lord. Confusion seemed to dance in the depths before a light came to them. A soft whimper rose in the woman's throat and weighed on the already heavy silence.
"Kagome?" Sesshomaru whispered to the demoness, afraid that she may disappear with the slightest disturbance.
"You found me...my Sesshomaru." The words had been whispered so softly, the demon had struggled to catch it. Time seemed to freeze as they gazed upon each other. Tears poured down the pale cheeks of the Western Lady as she looked on.
"Kagome!" With speed unknown to himself, Sesshomaru leapt forward and snatched the small woman up into his arms; one hand tangled in her hair while the other held her to him.
Sobs shook Kagome's form as she desperately grasped her mate to her; thanking the gods repeatedly when his lips crashed down on her own. Beside them, Ellie and Kouga looked on in wonder as the two held each other. Watery smiles adorned their lips as they watched a reunion five-hundred years in the making for them.
For Kagome it would be an entirely different experience. She had both gained and lost two years; there was no telling what would happen in the hours to come once things began to rewrite themselves to correct what damage the spell had done.
The Taiyoukai growled with pleasure as Kagome's lips slid across his own. Years seemed to melt from him as the weight of his sorrow began to fall away. He reluctantly broke the kiss to gaze down at the woman in his arms, his eyes freely conveying the love and passion he felt for her. A genuine smile took his lips as his own emotions were mirrored in his love's gaze as well.
Without thought of the other occupants of the building, the demon swept up the woman into his arms and yelled at the top of his lungs in joy. Kagome giggled through her joyful tears as she grasped the back of his neck. Their lips crashed against each other's once again; reaching out to taste the very soul of the other. Sesshomaru pulled away briefly to whisper huskily against his mate's cheek.
"Forgive me for not protecting you. I swear on the very heart that beats within me, I will not let you go again..." The Inu youkai was silenced as Kagome placed a slim finger on his soft lips, shaking her head slightly as she did so. Smiling at her acceptance, he quickly leaned forward and claimed her lips once more.
**Across town...**
Lightening flashed across the sky as Himoto shot up from his bed, clutching the sheets with a shaking fist. His long black hair fell around his shoulders, matted to the skin with sweat. Echoes stirred in the cold air of the dark bedroom as his own mind whirled to a stop. Grinning maliciously, Himoto swung his legs out of the bed and breathed deeply; listening to the world around him. Stepping up to the bedroom window, he gazed out into the city.
"They will pay for what they did." Himoto whispered against the glass. "With every breath, they will pay..."

There ya have it....for now anyways. It WAS goin to be longer but people kept getting on me about how long it was taking. LoL. If you are interested in knowing, Kisho's name means "˜one who knows his own mind'. Appropriate in my eyes... Anyway, I'm REALLY not with it energy-wise now (seeing how it is 3:30 in the morning) so I will post my thanks on the next chapter. I'm sorry but if I want to thank you guys properly, I would rather be sound of mind when I do it. Thanks for the reviews...keep em coming! Cheers! "“ G.S.
Thank you to my reviewers at AFF.net and Single Spark, you guys are amazing and you know it!
