Chapter 9 – She Comes

The group rattled off, to an
amused Kaede, their last adventure.  All of them tried to tell her at once
and it became very confusing as the din of their chatter became louder and
louder.  Suddenly, every one stopped talking at once.  They all
turned to look at Shippo who was rolling on the floor of the hut, laughing so
hard he was surely going to split his side.  “So that’s what really
happened”, he finally managed to spit out.

The rest of the group just rolled
their eyes at the child and once again began trying to tell Kaede their own
version of the ‘battle’ with Sesshoumaru.  Before they could get too far,
the old woman stood up and announced that she was getting hungry and would like
to eat. Sango and Kagome immediately understood that what Kaede really meant
was that she was tired of all the noise.  They stopped their chatter and
got up to help her with the preparations for the meal.  Miroku and Inu
Yasha didn’t have a clue and kept prattling on.  Shippo was still rolling
around on the floor.  Felt kind of good to do that.

Kagome walked over to the boys,
hands balled into fists at her hips, and scolded them.  “You boys are such
gossips.  Why don’t you make yourselves useful by catching us dinner?”

They both snapped their mouths
shut and looked at each other.  Shrugging, they got up and were making
their way out of the hut.  Kagome yelled after them, “Take the kitsune
too; his laughter will scare up the game!”

Inu Yasha came back in long
enough to grab the laughing ball of fur.  Shippo had been laughing so hard
he had started crying.  At this point he didn’t really care what happened
as long as his side and face stopped hurting.

Kagome debated on her course of
action.  She wanted to ask the wise old woman, but didn’t want to hurt or
embarrass Sango.  Before she could make up her mind, Sango made the decision
for her.

“Kaede, I found some potion the
other day and I want to make sure that it will do what it is supposed to
do.  Is there any way to do that?”

“Well, do you have the potion in
question?  I will need to examine it.”

Sango produced the bottle.
Kaede glanced at the label, making sure not to show any expressions that would
worry the girls.  ‘If she is concerned with this potion, it can mean only
one thing’, thought the old woman.  She took the cork out of the top
and peered inside.  “How much of this did you drink”, she asked, a bit
alarmed now.

“How did you know she drank any”,
asked Kagome.

“There’s just a few drops left,
that’s how I know”, cried Kaede.  She grabbed hold of Sango and shook
her.  “You must tell me, it’s vitally important!”

Sango just stared for a
moment.  “I promise, I only had 2 sips.
There should have been much more left in the bottle.”  Kaede let go of the
girl and she slid to her knees.

“If the one that drank this is
human, they are in grave danger.  This potion is made from strong female
hormones, taken from a kitsune, no less.  The hormones can help enhance
certain female attributes.

“Oh, then no wonder Sesshoumaru
had it, he said he wanted to become a girl”, stated Sango.

Kagome and Kaede both gave the
girl shocked looks of surprise before the old woman finished the description of
the potion.  “It also contains poisons that could easily kill a human.”

Sango went white.  She
looked to Kagome, then to Kaede.  She lowered her head and started to cry,
slowly rocking back and forth.  She was too young to die, and she finally
had the man of her dreams.  Kagome bent down and put her arm around her
friend’s shoulder, trying to sooth her.

“When did you partake of this”,
Kaede asked.

“Th-this
morn-mourning”, Sango said in between sniffs.

“Well, cheer up then, dear.
This potion should have only taken about an hour to kick in.  If you were
going to die you would have done so already.”

Sango stopped rocking.  She
looked up hopefully and saw that Kaede was smiling at her.  She gingerly
got up and rushed to hug the old woman, thanking her.  After the girl
backed away, Kaede added, “You know, you should be more careful, though.
This potion stops pregnancy at first, but after you stop taking it, it can make
your body even more fertile.”

Kagome and Sango both fainted.

Inu Yasha and Miroku had been
hunting, while the kitsune turned into a bubble and floated above, searching
for the game.  They had already caught two rabbits, and just needed one
more.  Shippo had just spotted something in the bushes and was about to
alert the guys, when he had a strange feeling and immediately returned to his
normal kitsune form, or so he thought.  He caught the rabbit and killed it
quickly, turning to take his trophy to Inu Yasha.

When he caught up with them, he
was greeted by the two - slack jawed, eyes bulging.  Then they just busted
out laughing.  Laughed so hard that they dropped
everything and like the kitsune ier, ier, began rolling on the ground.
The monk’s legs were flailing about and Inu Yasha was laughing so hard that he
didn’t even care that Miroku was kicking him in the side.

Shippo wondered what was so
funny.  That’s when he happened to look down.  He was
mortified.  He had boobs!  Really big ones at that.
He looked up at the boys that had finally stopped laughing and were now looking
back at him.  He opened his mouth to yell at them.  “Stop it, it’s
not funny”, he screamed in an extremely high pitched voice.  He took a
step backwards, turned and ran.

That did it for the hanyou and
the monk.  Miroku laughed so hard he peed on himself.  That sobered
up the monk.  Inu Yasha tried to control his laughter and stood, hoping to
catch up with the kitsune.  Miroku stopped him. “Do you really think he
wants a man around right now?”  Inu Yasha just shook his head.

They both turned back towards the
village.  Every once and again they would snicker.  Finally making it
back to the hut, they skinned and gutted the rabbits, still laughing now and
again.  The girls came outside, along with Kaede.  They wanted to
know what was so funny.

Inu Yasha just looked at Miroku
as if to say, ‘I’ll tell them – you’ll only loose it again.’  He went in
to the full account, how they had already caught the two rabbits and Shippo had
been in the bushes looking for another catch and then told of the kitsune’s
transformation.  Inu Yasha and Miroku once again began to laugh
uncontrollably, but the woman all just looked at each other.

“So that’s what happened to my
potion”, mumbled Sango.

Inu Yasha and Miroku had finally
gotten over their laughing fits and the group had enjoyed a reasonably quiet
meal.  Kagome didn’t realize how much she missed the kitsune until he was
absent.  ‘No wonder it’s peaceful,
though’, she thought.

It didn’t last that way for
long.  They were all full and feeling kind of lazy.  The fire was
warm and the flames were mesmerizing.  Kagome had almost fallen asleep
when the calm night air was suddenly pierced with the sounds of a very frantic
Shippo.

“She’s coming, she’s coming”, he
screeched as he ran towards the hut, boobs bouncing.  Everyone was outside
in a flash.  They would have all laughed if the kitsune didn’t sound so
desperate.  As soon as Kagome had stepped out of the hut, Shippo was there
and jumped into her arms.  He buried his head in her shoulder and
shuddered.

“What’s the matter, Shippo”, she
asked.

“Kikyo’s coming”, he said and
turned to look at Inu Yasha.  In fact, everyone but Kagome had turned to
look at the boy.

“What kind of explanation is
that, and why is everyone looking at Inu Yasha?”

“You’ll see soon enough”, replied
Inu Yasha.  “I was hoping we wouldn’t have to deal with this before you
got back your memory, though.”

She looked to Sango, but the girl
only turned her head, not wanting to be confronted by Kagome.

“Wel“Well, I’m not just gonna wait
here and die of curiosity.”  With that, Kagome started walking in the
direction Shippo had come from.  Inu Yasha moved to stop her, but was
glued to the spot by an invisible force.  He growled out his frustration.
Kagome hadn’t gone a little ways when she heard a sinister laugh behind
her.  Turning, she saw an illuminated figure standing in front of Inu
Yasha.  The figure turned and Kagome could see that it was a girl.
She gasped.  ‘She looks like me’,
she thought.

Kagome started running back to
her frie tow towards her look alike.  She halted as she watched the other
girl lean in and kiss Inu Yasha.  She panicked.  Everything started
spinning and Kagome nearly fell, but then caught herself.  Why was she
panicking?  It didn’t matter if this girl, or any other girl, kissed Inu
Yasha, did it?

She was kicking at the dirt and
had started running towards the couple before her mind caught up to what her
body was doing.  ‘Yes, it DOES matter!’  She ran head
long into the girl, knocking her over and displacing Inu Yasha from his
trap.  She was kicking at the girl before they could stop her.  Inu
Yasha grabbed her arms and held them behind her.

Kagome was about to start cursing
him for holding her back when he smiled down at her. “Thanks for the
jolt.  It allowed me to break away from her spell.”

He turned to look down at
Kikyo.  “She’s stronger now than when you last saw her, it might not be a
good idea to mess with her”, he warned the girl.

Not heeding his words, Kikyo rose
up gracefully and pointed a finger at Kagome.  “You will not come between
us again”, she spat out.  Kagome simply tilted her head up to look
squarely at the girl.  She could feel the rage slowly building deep within
her.  No one talked to her like that, especially some two-bit whore who
thought she could have Inu Yasha.  “Let me go”, she told Inu Yasha.
He still held her arms and wasn’t moving.  Kagome looked up at him and
when he saw the look on her face he let go and backed up quickly.

Everyone else backed up as
well.  The air around them was almost crackling with the energy that
Kagome was now releasing.  But Kagome just stood there, not saying a
word.  Kikyo raised her other hand and was about to run at her rival when
lightening struck, knocking down everyone but it’s creator.  Kagome just
stood there, as if in a trance.

*  *  *

She woke up several times, but
never really long enough to realize where she
was.  She could vaguely make out Inu Yasha.  He seemed to be there
every time she awoke.  She was having strange dreams and they all involved
an intense energy that engulfed her, swallowing her whole.  This went on
for six days.

On the morning of the seventh
day, Kagome woke as she normally would.  She stretched her arms over her
head and pointed out her toes, stretching her legs.  She felt around for
Shippo, but found him missing.  That’s when she opened her eyes to see Inu
Yasha hovering over her like a mother hen.

“What’s the matter with you”, she
asked him.

“You were asleep for 6
days.”  He looked at her inquisitively.  “Do you remember who I am?”

“Of course I do, Inu
Yasha.”  His hopes rose.  “What did you think,
that I lost my memory again”, she asked.  His hopes were dashed again.

“Kaede had thought maybe the
trauma would snap you back into being yourself again, although I don’t think
that you are far from the way you used to be.  I mean, there are changes
like you’re more aggressive now –”.  ‘And
you don’t love me anymore’, he thought to himself.  “But for the most
part you are the same, wonderful girl we all know and love.  Well, I mean
you know – we’re all friends and all”, he stammered.

Kagome looked at him.  He seemed
different to her, almost like he was more care free.  She wondered what
made him that way.  “By the way, what happened the other night?  I
remember standing there, hating that girl who kissed you, then having a bolt of
energy rush from my body, but after that it’s a
mystery to me.”

‘Hating the girl that kissed you.’  That single thought
swirled around inside his head.  Did that mean that she actually
cared?  More than just a friend would care?  But what about her
‘mysterious man’ that was really him in human form?  He had to know for
sure, did she want him or – him?  He was getting confused.

Kagome looked at the boy.
He was just standing there with a glazed over look on his face.  She
walked up to him and waved her hand in front of his eyes.  He finally
blinked at her and was amazed at how close she was to him.  His heart
started beating faster.

“Are you gonna tell me what
happened or not?”

“Umm – what?  Oh yah, what
happened?  Well, this lightening bolt thingy seemed to shoot out from your
body and struck her head on as she was racing towards you.  I guess the
amount of energy radiating from you was enough to knock the rest of us down,
but it shattered Kikyo.”

“What do you mean that it
shattered her?”  ‘How could I
shatter a person’s body’, she asked herself, a bit alarmed.

“Well, Kikyo was made out of
clay.  And the surge of energy basically shattered her, just as if she was
a clay pot that was knocked to the ground.”

“Huh?  Made out of
clay?”  She was confused by that, but then remembered the kiss and she had
a more urgent question for him.  “But why do you seem almost glad that
she’s dead?  As I recall you stood there and let her kiss you!”
Kagome was getting mad again just thinking about the incident.

“You don’t remember me thanking
you for breaking me away from her spell?”  Inu Yasha chuckled.
“Silly girl, she just did that to get you mad.  She’s been trying to drag
me into hell with her.”

Kagome wanted to know more about
the girl who had looked like her, but after 6 days of not having more than
broth, she was hungry!  Her belly started growling, as if on queue.
Inu Yasha ran to tell their friends that the sleeping beauty had finally woken
and to find the starving girl something to eat.
