Dancing Blades, Silks, and Sakura Blossoms
Chapter Eight

InuYasha sighed longingly, he had searched the entire castle, and there was no sign of Yumi. ‘Where could she be?’

“Oh lord! He’s at it again!” Kagome groaned.

InuYasha glanced to Kagome and then turned back to the window that he had been looking out of. “I can’t find Yumi.”

“And I can’t find Sesshomaru. Oh no, what if they’re cheating on us, with each other!” Kagome teased.

InuYasha rolled his eyes. “Sesshomaru is giving Shippo a lecture on why it’s not a good idea to pull his tail near the pond.”

“You mean he’s scaring Shippo, commanding him to never come within a five block radius of his tail again?” she translated.

“Yup,” InuYasha said.

“Oh, poor Shippo!” Kagome cried. “I better go save him! I’ll see you later, InuYasha!”

InuYasha grunted in response as Kagome ran off to save her surrogate son from her, sometimes overwhelming, mate. For a while he continued to gaze out the window until the smell of the grave floated past his nose and the top of what looked to be a tornado appeared towards the most secluded part of the garden, where Yumi’s favorite tree stood. InuYasha’s eyes widened in alarm as he sprang to his feet and, with one hand on Tesseiga, leapt out the window to his beloved’s rescue.

Kikyo was sick of the elf woman’s game and, disregarding Naraku’s orders, placed all her, now dark, power into her arrow and fired. The energy sliced through the wall of the cyclone and slammed into Yumi’s shoulder, causing her to fall to the ground.

Yumi quickly, dissipated the cyclone and the evil aura around the arrow, so as to not poison her or her child with it. Slowly, she then stood once again, one arm hanging limply beside her as the other clutched her bleeding wound. Yumi scowled at the undead priestess.

“Your power is worthless if it could not stop a mere arrow,” Kikyo laughed.

Yumi’s eyes were now almost slits and had become a startlingly pale blue with anger. “You are a fool. You placed too much power into that shot and are now weak enough for even the fox kit to slay.”

Kikyo laughed again. “I still possess enough to kill you and take the soul of you and your bastard child!”

Yumi was now enraged. ‘How dare she even pretend to threaten my child!’ she then smiled evilly to Kikyo. “I have one spell left to use upon you, Kikyo. And it may take all my energy, but it will be worth it.”

“What spell is this? Another worthless cyclone?”

“Nay, undead bitch. Life winds!” Yumi shouted.

Kikyo’s eyes widened as she felt the trapped souls that her clay body housed were sucked from her nose and mouth. She cast her final look upon Yumi in wonder. “N-no! my souls! I cannot stay on this earth without them!”

“Precisely, Kikyo, I free you now from this unlife of hatred an revenge. Return to Kagome and rest finally,” Yumi said with a smile as she fell to her knees.

Kikyo could feel her brittle skin begin to crack and crumble as the magic that once held her into being fell apart. She then locked eyes with the elven princess and felt an undeniably wonderful warmth as her soul made it’s way back to Kagome’s body. She smiled as her final tears left her. “Arigato,” she whispered as she crumbled into dust and a bright blue light escaped her form and sped to the castle.

Yumi smiled as she collapsed to the ground, her blood staining the grass as she fell into darkness.

Kagome lay in bed with Sesshomaru after an escapade in their bed. Her body curled up to his as she started to drift into blissful unconsciousness. Suddenly, her body was engulfed in a blue light. Kagome dug her nails into Sesshomaru as she screamed. Memories and feelings of love, hatred, betrayal, and an intense longing overcame her as tears began to fall from her eyes.

Sesshomaru watched in horror as his mate screamed in pain. he had no idea what was happening. “Kagome!”

When the light vanished into her body and the screaming ceased, Kagome collapsed onto Sesshomaru and began to weep. “Oh kami!” she cried.

“What is it? What was that?”

“Kikyo… Kikyo is gone… her soul… has come home,” she wept. She then gasped and locked her fear filled gaze with that of her mate. “Oh Kami!”

“What is it? What did you see?”

“Yumi… Kikyo shot Yumi in the shoulder… Naraku wants Yumi, to torture InuYasha. Oh Kami! She’s with child… After Yumi freed her soul… Kagura… Kagura has Yumi!”

Sesshomaru’s face blanched. He then leapt from bed and dressed within a second, followed closely behind by Kagome. Soon they were out the door and heading towards where Kagome saw Yumi in her vision: in the garden, under her Sakura tree.

InuYasha burst through the t at at a breakneck speed as Kagura went to the air with an unconscious, wounded Yumi on her feather. InuYasha could only watch as Kagura vanished into the clouds with his beloved. The hanyou fell to his hands and knees and pressed his forehead into the back of his hand in defeat. The only thought that went through his head was her name.

That was how Kagome and Sesshomaru found him only minutes later. Laying, defeated, on the ground, surrounded by Yumi’s blood on the grass.

“We’re too late,” Kagome gasped.

InuYasha lifted his head and turned his tear filled eyes to Kagome. “She’s gone,” he said, his voice barely a whisper.

Kagome clutched her heart and ran to her friend, embracing him tightly. “Oh InuYasha! I’m so sorry!” she said as she held him close.

InuYasha just sat, his arms limp at his sides, the Tesseiga laying on the bloodstained ground around him. ‘Yumi.’

Yumi groaned as she came back into the waking world. She winced slightly as pain lanced up and down her arm, originating at her shoulder. “Oh right, I was shot,” she mumbled as she cracked her eyes open. Yumi glanced about her. She was laying upon a mattress, covered with a silk sheet, her kimono had been changed and her wound dressed. She wondered momentarily if InuYasha had found her before Kagura had time to take her to Naraku. The room was dark and filled her with a sense of dread as the door opened, revealing the sinister, crimson gaze of Naraku himself. ‘Or maybe not.’

“I hope you find your accommodations to your liking, my lady,” his smooth, poisonied honey-like voice said.

Yumi scowled. “I would, but for the evil presence that looms over me,” she commented.

Naraku chuckled. It was a graton hon her nerves. “I apologize, but I suppose it is something that you and your unborn shall have to get used to from now on.”

Yumi glared at the abomination before her. “I doubt it.”

Naraku chuckled once again. “Your beauty increases with anger, my lovely, I must say, I find it quite pleasing. I cannot wait to see how elsean tan take pleasure in you,” he said with a sinister smirk.

“Keep dreaming, monster! I belong to InuYasha , not you!”

“True, very true. I suppose I am at a loss for the moment. For now, just rest and regain your strength. Your child will need it,” he said as he turned and left her to the darkness of her thoughts.

Yumi turned her eyes to a barred window that allowed the now pale moonlight to illuminate her dreary room. A few tears fell from her eyes and landed upon the mattress beneath her. “Oh InuYasha,” she whispered to the night.
