Thinking

Sorry it took so long, but hey, good things come to those who wait. Well I hope you like this chapter, if you don't I'll understand...sob.

Like always I own anything, expect Alica, the trees, their clothes, the sky, and the moon...

He was looking at her…indigo eyes tented violet by the campfire…dark with desire and hate. His gaze burned paths along her skin, from her face to her breast, down her stomach and along her legs. She knew he wanted her, the scent of his subtle arousal danced within the breeze, floating to her nose. His tail thrashed violently behind him as he laid length ways on his side, head resting on his hand. His raven tresses, as usual, were swept up into a tight ponytail, which draped over his right shoulder.

She wondered what was he thinking? Kouga’s expression was dark, but thoughtful, if not a little frustrated. Whatever he was thinking could not be good, anything that required Kouga to think for long periods of time was never good. Kouga was intellectually sharp, but he had a broad imagination and sometimes his musing was obscurely twisted.

“The fire,” the sudden sound of his voice made her flinched.

Her lilac eyes darted to the dying flames, she cursed under her breath. Gracefully she got to her feet, retrieved more wood from a nearby pile and feed the fire. With practiced easy she build the fire back up and took her seat once more. It was irritating. Ever since they left Inuyasha’s pack he had been ordering her around. She had gathered the wood, water, made camp, and prepared the dinner he had hunted. Then there were always the little things, like bake the fire, fix his bedding, and anything else he wanted her to do. She was not his damn servant or his mate. Well, technically they were mates, but that was not the point.

She was brooding, but what was she brooding about? Escape. He was a hell of a lot faster then her, so escape was futile, but that didn’t mean she would not try. She was a crafty bitch, if she could not depend on speed she would think of something else. Could she possibly be thinking about killing him? His expression darkened, but for the most part he was amused. She would never. Alica was just as much infatuated with him as he had been for Kagome. The only way she would plot his demise was if he threatened her pack. For all he knew she wanted this damn bond. The nerve she had, ripping away his free will to chose his mate. That thought made hiod bod blacker then the very pits of hell. But with that thought his mind slipped into the recesses of another problem.

Kagome.

How could he been so blind? Yes he was arrogant, prideful, and thickheaded, but under no circumstances was he stupid. At first he was overwhelmed by the idea that she could sense the shards of the four-soul jewel. Not only could she detect the shards, but she was a miko and she also possessed a strange appeal. She was in no way as beautiful as a female demon, but the abundance of her innocence made her alluring. And her personality, it was unlike anything he seen in a human before, vibrant, bold, strong, devoted, and caring. The fact that she was a human gave her more of an edge, but…

She had only thought of him as a friend. Yea she would help him out when he needed it and show concern for his well-being. But only in a way that a friend would, never quite showing the affections he showed her. No, most of her attention was centered on that damn dog. Kouga had thought he could change her mind; show her that he was better then Inuyasha.

However the only thing he managed to show her was how much Inuyasha wanted her and cared for her. Every time they had their battles over Kagome, Inuyasha’s real feelings would seep out. And every time Kagome would swoon for him. It was simply pathetic. How in his brilliant scheme did he become matchmaker? The only thing their fighting did was bring Kagome and Inuyasha closer together.

Maybe he deserved it. He was trying to use Kagome in the first place, maybe he didn't love her after all...

He was too quiet, the kind of quiet that freaked you out when traveling alone in forest. She again wondered what he was thinking. Could he be plotting to kill her? It was likely. His black expression and the scent of hostility in the air did nothing but aid her assumption. He said he would kill her, kill her for something that was not her fault. It was true; she did have feelings for Kouga. Hell, she even harbored ideas of being his mate every once in a while. But she was not desperate enough to force him to bond with. He. Her pride would not allow it.

They had known each other since they were pups. His mother and her mother were close friends since both packs were in alliance together. Since their parents were so close, Alica and him had spent a lot of time together; he had been one of her closest friends. That was until the distance between the two packs began to grown due to war. The last time they had spent a long duration together was when they were young adolescences. From then on they grew apart, only seeing each other when the annual pack gathering came around. But she had always had feelings for Kouga even though he was arrogant, prideful, and stubborn as hell.

But underneath that, Kouga was very humorous and was able to bring light to any dark situation. He was always optimistic, always seeing the bright side no matter how grim things might be, and his easygoing attitude made everyone around him feel welcome. Kouga was very protective over the things he cared about and would give his life if needs be. He was also a very passionate demon, whatever it might be, his ideals, his goals, or his dreams; Kouga would pursue them with the intensity of the flames.

He always put the needs of his pack before his own, even at the cost of his own happiness and his word was as solid as stone. This was the reason she fell for Kouga, there was some many dimension to his being she found herself forever lost within the depths of his personality. It was something Kagome could never appreciate because she never took the time to see that side of him.

However, Alica would rather see him happy with someone else then to watch him be miserable. No matter how much it hurt her. Kouga deserved to be happy, especially after what he had been through. At one point in time he had been one of her best friends and to this day she still care for him. There was no way she would stand between his happiness. Selfishness was not a trait among wolves.

“The fire,” again the sudden sound of his voice made her flinch, and again her eyes darted back to the dying flames.

Alica growled, “Why don’t you fix it yourself?”

Kouga’s eyes narrowed, a slow growl of warning escaped him, but Alica did not heed it.

“Look, for someone who does not want to be bonded to me, you sure as hell are taking advantage of the perks,” she hissed low.

“Well, I was not the one who lead you to that damn cave?” he replied, his voice velvety soft yet laced with loathing. “I certainly was not the one who pushed you inside and knocked you out.”

“What!?” she exclaimed shooting to her feet and pointing an accusing finger his way. “I did no such thing. You lead me to that damn cave and you called me inside and then you knocked me out!”

“There is no need to lie Alica,” Kouga said, finding it hard to contain is anger. “You were following me while I was tracking down Kagome, and then you lead me to the cave.”

“Wrong,” she retorted folding her arms over her chest. “I scented you on the outskirts of my territory and wanted to know why you were there. I came across a meadow you had rest in and followed your scent to the cave. You were at the entrance beckoning me to enter—”

“That’s doesn’t make sense,” he said thoughtfully cutting her off. “Something is not adding up…Alica let me ask you something and you must be purely honest, ok?” She nodded her head yes and he continued. “Did you or did you not initiate the bond?”

Her lilac eyes rippled with betrayal and pain. The expression on her face was half way between disbelief and outrage. It was almost as if he stabbed her in the back. She did not appear as if she wanted the bond or ashamed that she had been caught or proud of the situation as he thought she would be.

“Kouga,” she said in a slow, anguished breath. “I would never force my affection on you. I would rather see you in the arms of Kagome then do what you accused me of.”

Not able to hold his stare she turned away. Her heart hurt. Alica hung her head low and and began to walk away. She hated the fact that Kouga could be so thickheaded at times. Did he not understand how much she cared for him? She guessed it didn’t matter, none of it mattered, he loved Kagome and hated her. Once Kouga set his mind to something it was hard to detour him. She will be glade when they found away to reverse the bond go tgo there separate ways.

Kouga got to his feet, sprinting to her and embracing her from behind before she could get far. He heard the truth in her words and did not smell the scent of a lie in the air. He knew he had made a mistake; her pain was sharp as it washed over him. An unfathomable stab of guilt tugged at his heart and he knew he should amend his mista

“Ali,” he breathed into her ear. “ I had to…I didn’t…forgive me I just had to know.”

Whether she knew it or not she relaxed in his embrace with a deep sigh as he nuzzled his face in the hollows of her neck; a jester of his apologue. Inhaling her scent he found himself calmed by her crisp winter smell, mingled with burning wood. The way her body molded against his felt so right and her body heat was soothing. Small tremors of anxiousness coursed through him as he became more aware of her feminine body pressed against him. He did not know where the sudden urge came from, but his pulse quicken and his breathing became slightly shallow just thinking about it. Kouga just wanted to kiss her, one kiss would do no harm.

She complied when he turned her around and hesitantly looked into his eyes. They were so dark, swirling with so many hidden emotions. He looked calm if not a little tense and she could have sworn his heartbeat quickened and his breathing become a lot shallower then before. He wanted her. His tail brushing lightly against her right thigh told her this as well. And when he pressed his firm lips against hers it was confirmed.

Honey warmth, like the rays of the sun, sparked from his lips and seeped down to his chest, spreading throughout his body to every limb and pooling into his groin. It heated his blood, made his heart pound harder and erased all coherent thoughts other then pulling her closer and making the kiss deeper. Gently he coaxed her lips open with his own and hesitantly slipped his tongue inside, her mouth tasted bittersweet like the blackberries she had feasted on earlier. Her taste was simply enticing. He ran his tongue along her sharp teeth to the sides and roof of her mouth trying to coat his tongue in the rich flavor. Only when he was satisfied did he allow his tongue to tease hers, stroking it softly, tantalizing her tongue to dance with his.

Alica could not stop the soft moan that escaped her throat; Kouga’s kiss was divine. The way his tongue melted with hers reminded her of nectar, sweet and addictive. His musky, spicy scent made her lightheaded and the feel of his hard body pressed against hers left her breathless. Her hands slid to his chest and she leaned completely into his frame as he deepened the kiss once again, plunging his tongue deeper then she thought possible. The world around her was spinning. Wait. It could be the lack of air. She tried to pull away, but he would not let her and the kiss become rougher. Using her hands on his chest as leverage she pushed him until the kiss was broken, and gasped for the much needed air.

Kouga stepped back, trying to put some distance between them. Fire could not describe the way his blood burned through his veins. His heart pounded like thunder against his ribcage and he found it hard to catch his breath. Now Kouga had kissed his fair share of woman in his life, but none was as intense as what he just experienced. The kiss drove to the pit of his primal instincts and awakened the need to be inside of her quicker then wildfire. Wildfire. That was exactly how the need to be inside of her consumed him, spreading throughout his whole being. But how much of it was the bond’s doing and how much of himself really wanted her?

Her voice was huskily as she spoke, spinning around him like silken threads. “I think we should get some rest, it will be a rough journey to my tribe.”

He turned around without even looking at her, nodding his head in agreement.
