Chapter 2, Part III - Chance Meeting
"Silence, you fool, or I'll cut out your tongue,"
Her accent was heavy, with the hint of exotic in it. It was something Kagome has never heard of before. Before she could dwell on that, the male vampire's reaction sidetracked her. The burly 'thug' actually cowered in fear of the woman, bowing his head in deference to her. His partner soon followed suit and Kagome observed all these with interest.
The woman, it seemed, was the 'alpha' among them.
All Kagome had to do was to take the female vampire down and the rest would be a walk in the park. She didn't have much time though, she thought, stealing a glance at the unconscious man beside her. Time was running out for him. Kagome slowly stood up, planting her feet firmly on the ground and braced her legs apart. Her hands were loosely at her sides, belying the tension that she felt. She waited for the vampires to make a move.
"You are not to sip even a drop of her blood, do you understand me? The girl's all mine,"
"What about the other human, my lady?"
The female vampire hissed again.
"That one's also mine. He's going to be my new 'companion'. We'll find food for you after we take care of this one,"
'So that's why they were toying with him. She wants to break him in slowly before she changed him,'
Kagome thought repulsively, feeling sick to her stomach. She must want 'him' pretty bad though, 'coz it was pretty obvious the guy gave them one hell of a fight before they ganged up on him.
Kagome was going to make sure they're not going to lay another finger on him.
"Be careful with this 'bruja'. She's obviously trained to take our kind down. Don't you dare fail me or else,"
Just as Kagome got tired of their chatter and decided to take matters into her own hands, the raven-haired guy regained consciousness. She tilted her head to the side so she could look at him, though still not letting her guard down.
Blue met violet as their eyes collided.
"Kagome[is that you?"
The surprise was there in his voice, but that was all he could manage as he went under again.
'He knows me? But I've never met him...'
Kagome was itching to wake him up and demand an explanation, but she'll save it for later. Right now, she had better things to do.
Like kick more vampire ass.
With no warning whatsoever, Kagome went on the offensive. Pulling out her kodachi from behind her back, she went after the female with all the speed she possessed. The two males flanked her though, so Kagome was forced to deal with them. She jumped to evade the leg sweep coming her way while trying to slash at the other vampire who was determined to get his claws into her. That left the female free to attack her. Kagome dodged to the side just in time to avoid the fangs sink into her throat, but she could feel the burn of those fangs as they grazed her. She leapt backward, retreating for the moment.
"Delicious. I'll enjoy drinking your blood to the last drop,"
The woman said as she smacked her lips soundly, the taste of Kagome's blood tantalizing her even more.
"Finish her now,"
The two male vampires moved to accomodate their mistress, but before they could reach her a blast of pure youki stopped them cold. Before any of them could blink, a man with long silver hair worn in a braid and dressed (would you believe it) in an Armani suit that was better off in the board room than where he was at the moment, stood between Kagome and the vampires.
Kagome knew the powerful youki belonged to him. And she was ashamed to admit she was scared shitless now. It was one thing to fight off vampires or demons, whichever was after her, but it was another matter when both were after you at the same time. No amount of training could've prepared her for this, especially when the youkai was of the highest caliber. She knew she was doomed, but she was determined to go out with a bang. Her stubborn pride wouldn't let her go down without a fight. She was gathering her power to try and blast him off the face of the earth when he turned around, seeming to know exactly what she was doing. He had on eyeglasses, but that didn't diminish the intensity in his golden gaze.
"Lower your guard, miko. I am not the enemy,"
The deep cadence of his voice and the impassiveness of his face was vaguely familiar, and Kagome felt a sense of dejavu coming over her. But she shook it off, focusing instead on his words.
"Then you'll help?"
The hopeful desperation in her voice was not lost on him, and she saw a flicker of amusement appear in his eyes before it was gone faster than it appeared. He inclined his head to her before facing the three vampires.
"You dared to touch that which is mine. Unforgiveable,"
The coldness in his voice should've been a warning to them. But the female vampire foolishly disregarded it.
"Oh I'm sorry, is that your lover there? I never would've guessed,"
