The Quirks Of Curse Breaking
Chapter 8
The Inu no Taisho returned shortly after our encounter with Midoriko-sama, demanding to know everything about the jewel and what had happened while he was gone. The five of us were famished, so we piled into his SUV and headed out to dinner before satisfying the taiyoukai's curiosity. For my part I was still pondering the tiny miko's words, and one glance at my companions told me I wasn't alone. InuYasha looked unusually pensive, while Fidget seemed optimistic. Sesshoumaru had gone deep inside himself, staring into nothing and making no attempt to interact with those around him. Not that he's normally the most social inu youkai on the planet, but this was different. He seemed to be fighting with something only he could see.
Just as Taisho-sama's car pulled up the the restaurant, Sesshoumaru met my eyes. For a brief instant I saw something flicker in those liquid amber eyes...no, it can't be. Suddenly his walls were back up, and I knew I had to have imagined that flash of heat in his gaze. Laughing to myself, I shook my head and dismissed the tremble that passed over my body. All this talk of love must have gotten to me after all.
It was clear Fidget was having, as he would put it, “a fabulous time gabbing away” to Taisho-sama about the Shikon jewel, but I couldn't make myself focus on the conversation. We had been given our table by a very beautiful hostess possessing a most delectable backside, yet I'd had no urge to grab it. Ordinarily in situations like this I can practically hear my hand screaming at me to put it somewhere useful, but this time my entire being was...Kami, it was silent. For the first time in my admittedly rather hormone-fueled life, I felt nothing when I saw a beautiful woman.
At the same time I was trying to sort through all of this in my mind, I could feel a pair of eyes doing their best to have their way with me. Gazing around the restaurant I could find no one staring at me...no one except Sesshoumaru.
This time the heat in his eyes was unmistakable, all that passion bottled up and ready to be unleashed. I couldn't think, all I could do was act on the answering fire I could feel coiling inside me. Act, and pray I wouldn't be burned to death in the process.
Putting a faux-pained expression on my face, I groaned. “I...forgive me, Taisho-sama. I'm afraid I'm feeling quite sick all of a sudden. I think I should go home and rest for the remainder of the evening.”
Sesshoumaru stood quickly, rolling his eyes. “Weak human. This Sesshoumaru will accompany you to ensure your safety.”
InuYasha looked baffled. “Since when do you give a rat's ass about anybody else?” he asked. “Guess miracles do happen.”
The Inu no Taisho nodded approvingly at his eldest son. “That's very kind of you, Sesshoumaru. Take him back to the mansion, he can rest there. Miroku my boy, I hope you feel better soon and I hope you're not contagious,” he laughed. “Here's money for cab fare.” Handing me a wad of bills, he turned back to Fidget. The neko caught my eye and raised a brow, letting me know he wasn't fooled in the least by my little sick act. I gave a silent prayer he would keep his suspicions to himself until I could figure this whole thing out.
“Come Miroku, I do not wish to stand here all night,” growled the impatient taiyoukai at my side.
Figuring I might as well play my “sick” part to the fullest, I pretended to swoon. “I'm sorry, Sesshoumaru. I'm just trying to get up the strength to move. You may have to carry me,” I said, heading outside to hail a cab.
A dark glare met my suggestion. “This Sesshoumaru will do no such thing.”
After the most awkward cab ride of my life we were back at the Taisho's mansion. None of the lights were on, allowing twilight to shine through the large bay windows and illuminate my companion's silver hair. Fucking Kami, but he is beautiful...so beautiful. I just called another male beautiful, and for some reason I'm alright with that. I met his golden eyes and saw mirth intermingling with the heat. The faint smile on his lips confirmed it.
“Why are you smiling?” I asked.
“Because you just said this Sesshoumaru is beautiful.”
SHIT! I clapped a hand over my mouth. Apparently my thoughts have decided to make themselves known, regardless of how I myself feel about it. I have to find a distraction, and fast...
“You should not do that, Miroku,” said Sesshoumaru in a low voice.
I trembled as he said my name. In all the years I've known him, he's called me by my given name a total of maybe ten times. Hearing myself be acknowledged in that voice sent a bolt of lightning straight to my cock.
“D-do what?” I stuttered.
He moved closer, stopping when he was a hair's-breadth from my face. “Bite your lip like that. It makes me want...argh...” he broke off with a growl, fighting his internal war again. Only this time I knew what he wanted, and I wanted it just as much. His body was calling to mine, and I was helpless to do anything but answer it.
I said a silent prayer and made my move.
Sorry about the cliffhanger, but next up...we enter the lemon groves! As always, thank you so much to everyone who's left me a review!!!
