A Fight You Couldn't Forget

thehotty: Ok, so I'm going to be supper kind today, only because I'm so bored that I feel like amusing myself by confusing all you.

Inu Yasha: Kagome! She's acting smart again!

Kagome: Kami! TH, stop acting like you are a God. Nobody cares about you.

thehotty: *pouts* I knew it already. I only have one true friend... and she's just a fan. At least she's the only one that's left more then two reviews.

Naraku: Who in the hell would like what you write? It's just garbage spewing from your filthy mind!

thehotty: If I recall correctly you were praising me not to long ago about writing chapter two. And plus, Violetcarson-san is a very nice person.

Kouga: TH, you are a horrible person. I don't see why anyone would like you. Especially NICE people.

thehotty: *glares at Kouga* Fine, I'll spoil the whole damn story for you! Do you want that?!?

Kouga: I would like to know if Kagome will end up marrying me.

thehotty: Well, here's a hint for you, as soon as I get my creative flow back, I'm coming up with a new conflict and having it kill you off! Your lands will go to Bankoutsou! How about that one!

Kouga: *GASP* Gay guys running my Lands?!? How dare you defile the Wolf tribe with Kami monstrasities!

Kagome: Let's just get to the freaking story already.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The men stood up as the shouting grew louder from the wall.
“It begins,” Suwa stated while heading forward with Wada.
“Good luck, my friends. Until we meet at the Eastern wall of the castle,” Hoishimaru offered.
“Yes, until then,” Iwala added as they all went their separate ways.
Naraku sat at his desk and growled at the servant in front of him.
“You mean to tell me that someone has breached the walls?”
“Hai, my Lord. The army is slowly dwindling down. Men are also disappearing from their posts where I’ve told them to stay to watch for any other intruders. Their smell just stops at the spot I left them. I’ve sent a few men to search for them,” the servant reported.
“Fool! How can one person get past the gate?” Naraku yelled.
A tentacle shot out of his robes and into the servants’ chest. His mouth hung open and his body went limp.
“Damn it!!” he yelled and quickly left his room.
Kagome sighted and glanced at Yura.
“My Lady, I believe it is time.”
“I know, but I want to keep an eye on the lawn so I know exactly when I should send the Miko warriors out. I want most of the demons gone.”
“Yes, my Lady. I didn’t think about that.”
“It’s alright. Bring in the girls though. I want them to know its tonight instead of a day or two.”
“Of course, my Lady.”
The girls filed in and Kagome turned from the view of the lawn to the then warriors in front of her. “Ladies, I am sorry to inform you that the battle has come upon us. Soon we will be fighting among the six warriors my two fathers sent out and a mystery man. Not very much to rely on, I know, but we have to put our faith in it.” She turned back around to watch the battle below.
“My Lady, are you sure you wish to help fight? We do not want you to get hurt,” Ai asked.
“Of course I will. We need everyone, and that includes myself. I have trained in the sword, archery and hand to hand. I am a Miko. I am capable,” she answered.
Down below her, she could see demons running around trying to figure out what was happening. She glanced up at the top of the wall to see a demon fall over dead and another on chuck the dead one into the forest.
She smiled to herself. ‘So father has picked smart men as well.’
She had taken in the fact that where the two had stood, nobody on the ground could have seen them.
The yelling in the halls started to get louder and louder. Asagi glanced at the door, almost expecting the owners to those voices to burst through and attack them.
They stood there for about half an hour before Kagome finally turned from the window after noticing the amount of demons running bellow the window down to a dozen at a time.
“Are you all ready?” she asked while pulling a katana from under her mattress and placing it in her oobi.
Everyone nodded and turned to go out the door. They headed towards the Southern exit.
“Excuse me, but you are to return to your rooms and not come out. We are under attack…” The young man who had addressed them came to a loss of words as eleven swords were drawn from the women.
Demons stopped and snarled at the group and ran towards them. Blades laced with purifying powers bit deeply into demon after demon, who shortly crumbled into dust and scattered across the floor as more demons stepped up to replace them.
The women pushed on with almost a sickening grin of satisfaction. They headed down stair ways disincarnating mindless demon after another and soon they found themselves at ground level.
Two demons appeared before the group and quickly bowed to the ground while cutting down a youki.
“My Lady, we are happy to find you well. If you will allow it, we are to help you, but we must find the rest.” Hoishimaru quickly spoke to her while spinning to face another opponent.
“Of course. We are honored for you to help,” Kagome answered while stabbing some youki in the chest.
On the group fought to the middle of the castle, were they thought they’d find more allies.
Iwala and Ueda had met up with Suwa and Wada already and were heading to the Southern wing to find the rest of the group.
They fought beside one another, grimly taking down foes and climbing over their dead and dying bodies. They fought for a long time this way until one of the four glanced around them.
“Friends, I believe we are at the Southern stairs, and there appears to be ash on them,” Iwala voiced.
“It appears so. The Lady’s group must have come this way,” Wada added.
“And so has our friends. There are dead bodies coming from the exit there. Let’s follow this new trial of dust and bodies. We may need to move fast to find our friends before danger befalls them,” Suwa quickly back tracked, chopping away the enemy fiercer then before.
The silver-haired demon threw open the front doors and with a mighty roar yelled out for Naraku.
Everything in the entrance hall stopped to stare at the invader. Swords hung in mid air, battle cries died bellow the roar and ashes floated lazily down to the ground.
His amber eyes quickly took in the scene before him. Eleven Miko’s, one demoness and the six demons from the forest stood in the middle of the Entrance Hall surrounded by a huge horde of demons. Dead bodies and piles of ash the only proof that a battle was being fought.
A gasp floated in the air and the demoness quickly assisted the frailest looking Miko, who apparently had made the noise.
“My Lady?”
At the sound of her voice, the spell like hold broke and the Miko’s charged the horde, followed by the six youki.
“Sesshoumaru,” the fragile one whispered loud enough for him to hear.
‘Ah,’ he thought, ‘this must be Kagome, the one father spoke of. How pathetic.’
Kagome couldn’t believe her eyes. Here, in front of her, the man (demon, actually) of her dreams was standing in the flesh.
She had caught the disapproving look in his eyes after she had found her voice. And it truly upset her.
Kagome hadn’t noticed when the battle began again, but when the demon had attacked her, she had flung an orb of power at it with out even thinking and had renewed her attack on the crowd ten fold.
It seemed that hope had come back to her. Before he had shown up, it was starting to seem as if her savior had been killed, or worse, had already left, or hadn’t even came, and escape was a far away concept. But now it seemed real again, as if she just stretched a little more she’d get a hold of it and be gone.
An evil laughter rang through the halls and Kagome faltered in the dodge she had been attempting, causing the demon to rip through her upper arm. She disposed of the demon with a swing of her sword into the side of its face and turned to face the evil being.
“It seems your warriors are to busy to protect you now, my sweet little wife. Maybe I should ravish you here and now, or wait until I dispose of them?” Naraku asked her.
Kagome backed up a few steps only to hit a hard, warm wall. She stepped forward and spun around to come face to face with her Sesshoumaru.
The demons emotionless face glanced from Naraku to her.
“Move ningen wench.” His silky tone made her shudder involuntarily as she stepped to the side.
“Lady Kagome! Behind you!” Yura cried out and Kagome ducked and spun, bringing her sword out to purify the demon who tried to attack her.
Sesshoumaru inhaled her scent. ‘So clean, like lilacs and the ocean,’ he thought, ‘with an under hint of wild chocolate mint. So rare.’
He kept his gaze on Naraku’s slithering form at the top of the stairs.
“So nice to meet the man who single-handily broke into my home. How did you mange to make my men completely vanish?” Naraku asked.
“Nobody vanished to my knowledge. I killed everyone I crossed and left the bodies to the crows, unless they were melted,” he answered.
“Those guards were easy to make disappear,” Hoishimaru offered. “Cut the throat and throw them in the woods, a really good distance away, after masking them with a sutra.”
“Who are you?” Naraku growled.
“It does not concern you,” Iwala stated, while stabbing another demon in the chest.
“Prepare to die, Naraku.”
Sesshoumaru’s whip flew out and Naraku jumped back to avoid it.
“You’ll have to do better then that, I’m afraid,” Naraku seethed at the demon.
“Hn,” was his only reply was his only reply before pulling a sword out from his waist.
He ran towards Naraku as a tentacle flew at him. Sesshoumaru easily disposed of it without slowing down.
Naraku glared at this and sent out several more, each attacking from separate directions.
Sesshoumaru effectively removed the offending appendages and turned toward his opponent.
“I tire of this,” he stated and moved to stand in front of the hanyou within a blink of an eye. He thrust his sword through Naraku’s chest and into his heart.
Naraku’s eyes bulged wide as he gasped in surprise. “But how…” he sputtered out and blood pooled from his mouth.
“Because I am Sesshoumaru,” he blandly stated while poison began to drip off his claws and was flung at the half demon. It quickly began to dissolve him into a puddle of nothing.
The demons stopped their attacks after witnessing their Lords demise and made a hasty retreat from the castle.
“My Lady, our mission is complete. We are under your service now.” Suwa bowed to Kagome and the others followed.
“Did Lord Inu-no-Tashio command this?” she asked the group.
“Hai, my Lady, at the late Lord Kibito’s request,” Iwala answered.
Kagome sighed and faced Yura. “I believe neither of my fathers have a brain in their head. They send their best soldiers to be my servants.” She turned to face the soldiers before her. “I’m sorry, but I can’t keep you here. My fathers need you more than I do.” Kagome answered. “I must request you go back to them.”
She faced her warriors next to address them. “I thank you all for your protection. I shall let you decide whether you wish to stay or leave. I have grown fond of all of you and do not want to decide, less I make you unhappy.”
Shion bowed to Kagome. “My Lady, we wish to serve you yet. We have grown to look unto you as a sister and not just our Lady.”
Kagome smiled kindly at the women. “Of course. Thank you.” She turned to face the only person yet to be addressed. “I believe custom calls for you to be declared Lord of the Western Lands, Sesshoumaru. I will have invitations sent to the Lords and Ladies and other important figures so they may acknowledge your succession. The Late Lord Naraku is gone, and with his death, I am in debt to you. If you are in need of anything, just ask and it shall be.” She went to her knees and bowed low to him.
“Stand onna. This Sesshoumaru wishes to speak to you in private,” Sesshoumaru’s icy voice commanded.
With that said, he spun around and started heading down the hall.
Kagome quickly stood up and hurried to catch up to the demon now disappearing down the hall.
“Make sure the castle is empty and secure. I’ll see to you all soon,” she called over her shoulder.
“Hai, my Lady,” Yura called after her as she disappeared after their savior.
Kagome hurried along to find the man of her dreams, literally, to see him disappear through a door. She stepped through to find Sesshoumaru sitting behind a desk scowling at the papers on it.
“You wished to speak with me?” she timidly asked, placing a hand on the door frame.
“Enter and close the door,” he commanded.
She nodded and closed the door behind her. “I wish to speak with you as well. I am Lady of the Western Lands and I hold the power of not only Lady, but Lord as well. I wish for you to realize this and not presume to order me. My fathers will not allow it, even if you are the new Lord.” She sat in front of Sesshoumaru with a steel resolve. “I do not intend to seem threatening; I just wish to tell you my place in this castle.”
“I see. You say fathers. Of whom do you speak of?” he asked.
“My blood father, Late Lord Kibito, and current Lord Inu-no-Tashio of the Southern Lands,” she answered proudly.
“Ah, I see father has taken in another human. How unsurprising. I was wondering when such would happen.”
“What do you mean by father? The only son he has is Inu Yasha. I have known the family since I was but a babe,” Kagome refuted.
“Onna, I do not lie. Inu-no-Tashio is my father. Though Izayoi is not my mother,” he answered with a glare. “Do not assume this Sesshoumaru lies.”
“I wasn’t applying that. It’s just that I’ve never once heard mention of you until a week before my wedding.” Her brows bunched up questioningly.
“I stopped talking to my father before your birth woman. Why are you here?”
“I was married to Naraku as payment from a debt my father, Kibito, had.”
“Are you not upset your husband is dead? Do you not wish my death for the act?” An eyebrow quirked up at her.
“I wish to celebrate his death and my freedom. I thank you for the deed you have unknowingly done for me and mine. As I’ve stated before, I am in your debt. If you wish for anything, just ask and it shall be done to the best of my ability.” She bowed down to him.
“Why did you wish his death then?”
“I was treated poorly. He abused me and…” she paused and looked away in shame, “and defiled me. I was near death before I had gained help finally from my fellow peers at Court. Hence the Miko warriors.”
“I see. Do you realize what will happen to you now that I am Lord of the West?”
“I presume I will be sent back to my father after I’ve repaid my debt and my title of Lady will be stripped of me, along with the power I hold,” she answered.
“Iie. Only Court can do that. I am unwilling to call them together to do such a thing. You are still Lady of the Western Lands, but you will have a new husband. Law, my dear, states that any wife of any Lord, even with the title of Lady, becomes the wife of the next Lord, unless the next Lord is your son. You will prepare the wedding preparations and my announcement ceremony. I will have someone clean up the castle. You may be dismissed.” With that, he adverted his attention back to the papers on the desk and began to shift through them.
Kagome stared at him in shock and horror. ‘Married? Again?’ she thought. ‘But what will he expect of me once we are married? Will he leave me alone?’
“Is there a problem?” he asked, noticing she still sat in front of him.
“Iie, of course not.”
With that, Kagome quickly stood up to leave the room to find everyone else. Upon exiting, she found Yura down the hall apparently waiting to give her the report.
“Hai Yura?” she called, startling the demoness from the daydream she had been caught up in.
“Oh! My Lady! We searched the grounds, even going as far as purifying everything. Nothing survives! The guards your father sent have begun cleaning the dead bodies from the grounds while the women are at the walls still searching the forest. I have found a more suitable room for you and have moved your belongings to it. Is there anything else you require, my Lady? It is close to dinner. I can prepare us all some,” she offered.
“Actually, dinner can wait. Come, show me the room and I will speak with you there,” Kagome answered.
Yura nodded and headed down the corridor and into a lush bedroom. Expensive silk lined the bed and pillows. Soft fur was spread randomly on the floor. A huge fire place sat in the wall glowing cheerily. Plush chairs sat in front of it.
“Naraku apparently had some really good taste,” Yura offered.
“I take it this is the Lord and Ladies room?” Kagome asked.
“Hai, my Lady. I thought it appropriate for you to reside in it. If you do not like it, I will find you another room.”
“That won’t be necessary, Yura. I will stay here for now. I have found out a few things about our savior. I wish to discuss with you.” Kagome walked across the room to the comfortable looking chairs.
Yura closed the door behind her and followed Kagome to the fire place and sat down. “What have you learned, my Lady?”
“Sesshoumaru is Inu-no’s son. I couldn’t believe it at first, but he doesn’t seem to be the lying type,” Kagome sighed. “But I fear I am yet to be freed unless Court decides such.”
“My Lady? I do not understand.” Confusion clear in Yura’s face.
“With Sesshoumaru gaining the Lands and title, he gains me as wife and Lady. I will have to plan the wedding and the announcement ceremonies.”
“Will you ever be free, my Lady?” Yura asked, while hanging her head.
“Do not worry about my freedom. I have done more then enough worrying about it. Just help me worry about arrangements for the ceremonies. Otherwise, you are dismissed to gather the others and prepare supper.” Kagome waved her hand to the demon and stared into the fire.
“Hai, my Lady.” With that, Yura stood up and left the room.
Sesshoumaru stared at the paper in front of him. He just couldn’t seem to focus on the papers. His mind kept drifting to the ningen that had claimed his own father as hers. She had almost seemed sincere when she claimed to be in his debt.
‘Humans don’t have honor. They are useless,’ he thought while picking up a scroll roughly. ‘She’s playing games on my mind.’
He scowled and threw the scroll back onto the desk. He just knew he’d seen her somewhere before. But where was the question.
The word ‘dream’ kept coming to mind, but he dismissed it as soon as it came back. It was a ridicules concept. ‘You couldn’t dream up people you’ve never met before,’ he reasoned while standing up.
The smell of food reached his nose and he realized he was actually hungry for the first time in two weeks. With that thought in mind, he decided he’d go find the dinning hall and eat as well.
Kagome glanced at the doors as they opened up, revealing Sesshoumaru as the cause. She smiled and bowed to him as he closed the doors behind him.
Ueda stopped talking to her as he noticed what she was doing and scowled at the new addition. He didn’t like the guy one bit. He was to emotionless and held an arrogant quality around him. It didn’t matter that they guy was Inu-no-Tashio’s son; he was marrying his Lady after a hard marriage and thought nothing of it.
Ueda noticed that the Lord had noticed him finally and he glared harder at him. He returned if with full force and looked away to continue to a seat near the Lady.
Kagome watched Sesshoumaru sit near her and glanced back at Ueda.
“Like I was telling you earlier, there’s no way around it and even if my fathers had found one, they wouldn’t tell me. I believe this was their intention from the start.”
“For you to marry a demon? What about his mate? Does he even have one?” Ueda asked, glancing at the demon they were talking about.
“I do not,” was Sesshoumaru’s reply.
Kagome jumped at the answer, not expecting him to have talked. “Even then it wouldn’t have mattered. There are demon Lords who take on a human wife, before or after they acquire a mate. It is more about a physical being for a treaty. I was married off to Naraku as a physical treaty and payment. It’s what I was meant for since birth. I will be able to handle it,” she told Ueda while patting his hand in comfort.
Hoishimaru looked up from his conversation with Suwa. “Does it not bother you that you were meant for that?”
“My feelings on the matter are inconsequential. I will do as I’m told or I will dishonor my family. I do not wish to do that,” she answered.
“But, my lady, there has to be something you can do,” Suwa added in.
“I could appeal to the Court, but I have already caused enough trouble there. Hitten and his wife does not like me very much, never have, and I dare say the score would be against me. Inu-no and Izayoi would find it an insult if I didn’t marry their son.”
“Izayoi is not my mother, wench!” Sesshoumaru growled at her.
She jumped at the sound of his voice. “I am sorry, I was not aware.”
“Hn,” was his only response to her as Yura brought in the food for everyone and dished them up. Small chatter assured everyone everything would be okay for them now.
Kagome watched with a small smile as Yura blushed at something Iwala had been saying. She watched as the women debated over the existence of the Shikon-no-Tama. Ueda, Wada, Hoishimaru and Motohasi discussed fighting tactics while Suwa started at his plate.
“Is anything the matter, Suwa?” Kagome asked, placing her chopsticks down.
“Everything is fine, my Lady. Do not worry about me,” he answered.
“If anything is bothering you, you can talk to me,” Kagome offered with a smile.
“Of course, my Lady.”
Sesshoumaru watched the woman closely. She seemed to gain respect from everyone without even trying. He wondered what trick this woman held up her sleeves at being so friendly with everyone.
He finished his food and stood up. Without a word, Sesshoumaru left the room and headed for the old Lord’s room. He just wanted to get some sleep at the moment. He changed into a light yakama and moved to the fire place, which was luckily still blazing. He sat in one of the chairs and once again tried to place the girl he had met.
The door opened as a form stood outside it.
“Good-night Yura. I’ll see you in the morning. We have much to do.” The soft and gentle tinkle of her voice filtered into the room. She stepped in and closed the door behind her and went straight to the wardrobe without noticing him.
She slipped off her kimono and oobi and let it fall to the floor. She opened the door and Sesshoumaru glanced at her body. She had silky skin that glowed from the setting sun and blazing fire. Soft curves swayed as she reached inside for a yakama. He took note of the faint silvery lines everywhere and wondered if this was what she had meant by abusive.
She slipped the clothes on that she had pulled out of the wardrobe.
“Kami, the life I lead. People just think I’m the luckiest person in Japan. If they only knew…” Kagome spoke to herself out loud.
She turned around and began to head to the fire place when she spotted him.
“How long have you been here?” she asked.
“Before you even entered. What are you doing here?” he asked her.
“This is my room. What are you doing here?” she asked heading to the free seat by the fire.
“I was under the impression this was the Lords room. You are not a Lord,” Sesshoumaru pointed out.
“I have the power of a Lord and Lady, if you’ve forgotten. That makes this room mine. That and you haven’t been publicly announced yet as Lord.” She leaned back and placed her elbow on the arm while putting her chin on her palm.
“I see. You don’t consider myself as Lord until I’m recognized by Court as such.”
“I am part of Court, so exactly. But I will allow you to stay in the Mate-to-be’s chambers. I am sure it is just as nice as this room, if not better, after all. I’ve been told by my sister that a soon to be mate is lavished in gifts and even have better things then the male, am I correct?” she lifted an eyebrow at him.
“Hn, indeed. I shall respect your wishes.”
With that, Sesshoumaru stood up and paused by her chair. “I wish to thank you for the preview of what is to come after our marriage.”
Kagome’s eyes widened and a blush covered her cheeks and spread down her neck. She quickly hid her face in her hands as her mouth hung open. The sound of the door opening and closing behind her.
‘Oh Kami! He saw me naked! He probably thought I was hideous or worse! He probably couldn’t stand to look at me. I have too many scars for anyone to look at,’ she thought to herself.
She looked around the room to make sure she was alone finally before sighing. “I might as well go to bed now. At least I won’t humiliate myself while I’m doing that at least.”
Kagome crawled up into the covers, blew out her candle and closed her eyes.
