“You tell him.” Suzuka pushed Sakura towards the castle.
“Nuh uh, you.”
“You’re the one that stabbed her!”
“You’re the one who pissed him off earlier!”
“You’re the one that tried to kill him with chocolate!” Suzuka shouted, flailing her arms.
“Well you…you…”
“ENOUGH! I’LL TELL HIM!!!” Midoriko roared, angry at the bee that had just stung her on the nose. The girls had been arguing ever since they saw the body in the woods. It seemed like they maybe knew the dead girl, but seemed more annoyed than sad at it. They had all hopped off AhUn and were standing in front of the castle looking like idiots. Midoriko wouldn’t stand for it.
The elderly woman walked to the front doors with her daughter in tow, looking pissed.
“Yes?” One of the guards said looking at her. Midoriko glared at the guard, making a bead of sweat drop down his face.
“Tenchi, it’s fine. She is here to see Master Inuyasha,” Sakura called safely from behind AhUn. The guard nodded and moved aside, allowing them to pass.
“If we don’t go in with them, Lord Sesshoumaru will cut them to shreds!”
Suzuka eyed her suspiciously. “As opposed to us, you mean?”
Sakura paused. She hadn’t thought that far.
“Come on,” Suzuka growled, grabbing her sister’s collar and dragging her away. If AhUn shook his head and yawned, laying down to sleep in the grass, his job done.
*************************
By the time the girls had reached Sesshoumaru’s chambers, Midoriko and Mayumi were already there. Rin had been such a good nurse, keeping Inuyasha hydrated and wiping beads of sweat from both him and Sesshoumaru. Inuyasha was laying in the bed, a cloth on his head, eyes closed. Sesshoumaru sat on a small chair beside him, stroking his hand and cooing to him as the weird old lady examined and poked at him.
“You were right, wench. The hanyou is carrying a pup inside of him.”
Sakura saw red. ‘DID SHE CALL ME A WENCH?!!‘ she thought, balling her fist up and turning crimson. Sesshoumaru noticed an increased force in the room and looked toward his servant.
“Is there a problem?” he asked mildly, his composure regained. He got over Inuyasha being pregnant quickly, the shock of the situation wearing off very rapidly as he had found himself at the mercy of his two servants and ward, who was using his stomach as a trampoline when he had fainted. Mild was the best way to go at this point.
Midoriko looked over at them and smirked. “Those two are very odd. They’ve been squirrely since we saw that dead body in the woods.”
Inuyasha’s ears perked up and he struggled to sit up. “Dead body? What did it look like?” Sakura and Suzuka were signaling to Midoriko not to say, but she was off cue as usual.
“It was a girl with long black hair in some gosh awful outfit. It was white and green and hideous! That’s probably why she was killed,” Midoriko chortled, her laugh turning into a cough.
Inuyasha bolted up and scrambled to untangle himself from the sheets, glaring at Sesshoumaru, who had stealthily knotted the sheets making it very difficult to undo them. He looked at Sakura, who looked very uncomfortable.
“Was it Kagome?” Inuyasha whispered, instantly feeling contrite for his harsh treatment of her. Sakura looked down and nodded, squinching her eyes. Inuyasha sighed and closed his eyes, hanging his head. Sesshoumaru was incensed.
“Do you mean to tell me that you are saddened by the death of that…that…that filthy whore?” he shouted, rising to his feet. Inuyasha glared daggers at him and turned his back to him, making Sesshoumaru ‘humph’ in an angry tone. “Fine then why don’t you go out there and be with her then!” he snapped, eyes red.
“Fine, maybe I will!” Inuyasha shouted back as Sesshoumaru flounced out of the door, slamming it so hard that he cracked part of the door frame.
Mayumi walked over to the door and touched the cracked frame. “Gosh, he sure was mad!”
Inuyasha glared at her. “Is ‘Obvious’ your name or something? Shut the fuck up and get out of here, ya stupid human.”
Sakura smirked and Suzuka pursed her lips to keep from laughing. Mayumi frowned and hung her head silently. Inuyasha turned his head and scrunched his face.
“Hey ‘Obvious’, are ya fuckin deaf or something? I told you to get the fuck outta here!” The girls could tell Inuyasha was getting really mad and glanced at Mayumi.
Mayumi put her hands on her hips and huffed. “But I have to help my mother.”
Inuyasha was incensed. “You ain’t did shit yet! You’re just standing there like a total dumbass, slobbering all over yourself! Kick bricks and take your hamhock ass mama with you! GO!” he screamed, throwing a half melted candle at her. The candle struck her in the leg hard, leaving a dark red welt.
Midoriko nodded approvingly. It seemed that the only way to get Mayumi to do anything was to inflict violence upon her. Inuyasha nodded at Midoriko, bowing his head gratefully.
“I don’t mean to act like a jerk in front of you, really I don’t.” he said in an apologetic manner.
“I take it you know you need to rest and probably shouldn’t go to view that dead girl, but you’re one of the types not to listen to logic, huh?” Midoriko commented, re-packing her medicine bag.
Inuyasha shrugged. “Despite how I feel about Kagome, I wouldn’t want her just laying out there.”
“WHY NOT? SHE NEVER DID ANYTHING ELSE!” a grumpy voice called from outside the room.
“Lord Sesshoumaru…is a bit unruly today,” Suzuka explained, somewhat embarrassed at her regal lord.
“Pack it in!” Inuyasha called, upset. He just found out that he was pregnant, and Sesshoumaru being a jack hole wasn’t easing his stomach pains.
Sesshoumaru entered a few moments later, drifting past the company and sitting on the side of the bed. “I apologize, Inuyasha, for my outburst. It was unnecessary. I just want you to understand my side of the story. When will you stop running to that girl’s aid?” he asked softly, looking pained.
Inuyasha sighed and looked down. “This isn’t about us. What if I was dead in the woods? Wouldn’t you want someone to know?”
“Sesshoumaru reached for his hand. “That’s why I don’t want you going out there. I don’t want either of you getting hurt,“ he murmured, nodding towards Inuyasha’s stomach. “If it will ease your mind, I will go with you.”
“So will we!” Sakura piped up, grabbing Suzuka’s hand. They looked at Midoriko and Mayumi, who still looked mad.
“You can come with us, or one of the guards can take you back home, if you’d like,” Inuyasha said, bowing his head again towards the old woman. Midoriko sighed and shrugged.
“May as well go now. There’s nothing else for me to do here really. And Lord Sesshoumaru?”
Sesshoumaru looked up. “Yes, old woman?”
Midoriko smirked. “Does Chisato know of this yet?”
******************
The group trudged quietly through the forest, Inuyasha riding on Sesshoumaru’s back. The youkai had gone silent at the mention of Chisato, and even Inuyasha had to think back as to who she was. It had been so many years ago that he had heard her name, and even then it was in passing conversation. Heated conversation. It made him shudder to think of her. Sesshoumaru looked sad and distant, thinking of the last conversation he heard as a young man behind closed doors…
“This is my decision. Izayoi is already carrying my child.”
“A bastard hanyou child! I gave you a boy child, a strong, bright boy! And you discard him…us, so easily when you see some disgusting, weak human?!!!”
“SILENCE! HOW DARE YOU SHOW YOUR INSOLENCE TO ME! I AM THE GREAT INU NO TAISHO! You, Chisato, are nothing. A son you gave me, yes, but look at him. He kills the frogs in the koi pond. He slashes at me in his sleep. All things that you taught him. What good is an heir to me that cannot control his emotions? Perhaps he gets that from you.”
“I hate you.” The words were crystal and cold.
A laugh was the reply.
“Don’t you realize that human can only give you 20 or so years? Then what? I won’t take you back. Of all the times you mated with village women, you now choose to have a baby, and with her?!! I-I could have given you another child.” The voice sounded sad and defeated…heartbroken.
“No. I wouldn’t touch you if you were the last thing in this world. I’d rather cut off my arm than touch your filthy skin.”
“Then, dearest husband, I shall take my leave. And my son.“
“Touch him and die where you stand. Leave us in peace Chisato. It’s the best you can do…for all of us.”
His mother had been frighteningly bitter ever since.
*************************************
“Lord Sesshoumaru, it was here!” Sakura called, waving her arms to signal him. Sesshoumaru had walked slowly as not to jostle Inuyasha’s precious stomach. He lagged behind, keeping their scent in his nose, but more or less out of sight. He inhaled deeply and did smell blood and did smell Kagome, but the smells were out of sync.
“Inuyasha.” The hanyou’s eyes fluttered at the melodious voice. “We are here. Do you still want to…see her?”
Inuyasha sighed. He had to see, to stop the fear in his own belly. “Yes.”
Sesshoumaru nodded and carried him into the clearing, and set him down gently beside the well.
“See? We came past and she was lying just like this,” Sakura accused, pointing at Kagome’s body.
Sesshoumaru frowned. This wasn’t right. Taking a deep breath, he knelt down put a hand on the shoulder and flipped her over and gasped. Inuyasha scrambled over and put a hand over his mouth. Suzuka looked confused and Sakura looked annoyed.
Sesshoumaru turned to his servants, glaring. “That isn’t Kagome.”
Sakura frowned. It was true. The girl had on a sailor fuku like Kagome, long wavy black hair, and everything! But when they turned the girl over, she had freckles and green eyes, traits Kagome didn’t have. Sesshoumaru frowned at the dead girl and considered bringing her back to life to ask who killed her, but by the look of her body the girl had been dead for awhile.
Inuyasha walked over as Sesshoumaru stood to walk away. The look of sad relief was more than evident on the hanyou’s face. He pointed at the girl imploringly.
“Is there anything you can-”
“No.” Sesshoumaru’s voice was sharp and almost angry. He looked over at Mayumi and Midoriko, who looked on the verge of passing out. Pulling the body over had made the thick smell of death even thicker, and he couldn’t blame them for almost losing their chow. He handed her several coins and slightly nodded.
“Inuyasha and I must go our separate ways. I thank you for coming out to discuss Inuyasha’s condition with us.”
Midoriko nodded and looked concerned. “Will you talk to Chisato? She has the right to know.”
Sesshoumaru frowned again. “She left. My life has nothing to do with hers, nor will this baby’s life. It would satisfy me greatly to know that you will not confide in her of Inuyasha’s condition.”
Midoriko nodded. “Family affairs concern me not. It is your basket to carry. Humbly, Lord Sesshoumaru.” She and Mayumi bent their heads and shuffled back through the forest, several gold pieces richer.
Inuyasha carefully stepped over the body. “I think that old hag and her retard daughter are on to something. You have to tell your mother about us.”
Sesshoumaru turned angry and sad eyes to his lover. “I have no mother.”
Inuyasha shook his head. “Don’t be that way. Believe if my mother was alive I’d flaunt you like a motherfucker in front of her.”
Sesshoumaru sneered. “Whatever. You don’t know Chisato. She will rip our baby out of your stomach and step on it.”
Inuyasha looked nonplussed. “So your charm comes from her then, eh? It won’t be that bad, and she has a right to know the future heir of the Western Lands.”
Sesshoumaru gave him a small smile. “Or heiress,” he said in a waning voice, signaling the hanyou was about to get his way. His brother smiled toothily before brushing silver wisps of hair from the cresent and giving him a soft kiss.
“I like it better when they get along,” Sakura whispered, happy for her masters. Suzuka agreed, eying the dead body suspiciously.
Inuyasha turned toward the girls and waved. “Listen, we’re gonna go and talk to Mommie Dearest. Hopefully she won’t beat us with wire hangers….never mind,” he quickly added, noting everyone’s confusion. He and Kagome’s mother once watched a movie about an old insane actress that treated her kids the way Sesshoumaru’s mother treated him and thought the reference would be fitting. Obviously it wasn’t.
“Take care of Rin. And yourselves,” Sesshoumaru beckoned the girls to come closer to him. Once Suzuka was within arm’s length, Sesshoumaru grabbed her and briefly held her to his chest, then doing the same with Sakura. His face was ashen and his heart was beating fiercely.
He was afraid.
“This whole damned process is so…tedious.” His eyes looked so heavy, as if they would fall out of his head. His neck appeared fractured as well from the strange angle he was bent downward. Inuyasha took his clammy hand and gently raised his chin and looked into his eyes. “She wouldn’t hurt you, Shou. I know it.”
“Shou…you haven’t called me that since you were a baby,” Sesshoumaru murmured, staring down into mirror amber eyes. Inuyasha smiled, and it restored something instantly that had been lost so many years ago. Both of them had carried pain and regret over their family, but no one, not even Sesshoumaru knew how deep it ran. He ran a thumb over a chubby cheek and felt his heart break. He knew it would be better to present themselves, lest his mother hear about it otherwise and come to kill them. He didn’t know who she would be more angry with, Inuyasha for even existing or him for ‘sleeping with the enemy’.
“We will be back.” The firmness in the hanyou’s voice, the crystal clear tone, the fierceness hit all four of them, and they believed it. It broke Sesshoumaru from his trance as he blinked and nodded, looking a bit more normal. He nodded at his servants and took Inuyasha’s hand again and led him to the caves where his mother resided. The girls waved at their beloved lords until they had long disappeared from sight, and prayed for their safe and emotionally sound return.
Sesshoumaru heard the door slam and could feel his mother’s anger and hurt pierce through him like needles. He saw her walking briskly to the foyer to leave and knew this was his only chance. He had to try to save her, he loved her so.
“Mommy please, please let me come with you! I hate the new baby! I want to stay with you!” He pulled on his mother’s kimono sleeve, bending her slightly as he pulled.
“Let go.”
Tears pricked his eyes as he began to weep, not understanding. His mother turned red eyes to him and roared.
“YOU ARE TOO OLD TO BE ACTING THIS WAY! LET GO!” she screamed, backhanding Sesshoumaru hard enough to knock him off his feet. Chisato walked over to him and stood over him, legs spread and hands on hips.
“You feel that? That’s what your fake, dishonorable father did to me. That’s what humans do to you. You love them, care about them, because you think they love you. And then as soon as you let your guard down they knock you on your ass. Maybe your father was right. Maybe you are weak.” Chisato sneered and flipped her hair as she turned to leave the palace.
“Mommy…why?” Sesshoumaru’s voice creaked, broken and confused. His lip was split open and bleeding, and his head hurt horribly. He saw his mother’s hand pause on the door and was chilled to hear her next confession.
“Never love, Sesshoumaru. It clouds thinking. I can never love anything else again. Not even you. Your father made sure of that. If by some chance we meet, my name is Chisato, not ‘Mommy’. I have no children. I have…nothing.”
And with that, she was gone.
A/N: Mommy complex anyone? Of course next chapter they will see the mom and Sesshoumaru gets a REALLY nice gift. Besos! XOXOXO

Besos! XOXOXO
