Chapter 8
The Arrival


After that day and all the doubts about Sasuna were put to rest, the group made even better time than they had been and were at the Western Palace the next day. Kagome had been worried for her friends, being so near to so very many demons must make Sango and Miroku nervous. At least they had Sesshoumaru to protect them. As they all walked through the gateway to the front courtyard, the group all paused in awe of the magnificence of the palace, everyone but Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru that is. Shippo stopped and climbed up onto Kagome’s shoulder to avoid getting trampled and so he could get a better look.

“Momma? This place is HUGE! Does Sesshoumaru really live here?”

“I believe he does Shippo. But I also imagine that with so very many guests here and the amount of servants the extra space is welcome.”

The palace’s outer walls were constructed of the purest white marble she had ever seen. The front steps led up to huge intricately carved double doors made of a deep mahogany. The Pillars that lined the entire front of the building were carved with an Inuyoukai with wind swirling around them. They were so detailed you could sense the anger and feel the protection they offered. Kagome was in awe of the magnificence of the palace. Sasuna was standing near her but she felt as though it were just her and the Dog Demons. She walked slowly toward one of the pillars and had just reached her hand out when Sesshoumaru started talking.

"The artist, Katura, is very talented. She is one of the few to have seen my father in his demon form and live to tell the tale. She should be here momentarily to greet you all. I had the pillars and doors commisioned just before you left, Sasuna, it has changed a lot since then."

"Yes I can tell. You have done wonders to your home."

Kagome tuned everything out once more and focused on the pillar in front of her. She stretched her hand out further finally touching the pillar. It felt warm to the touch and she started to caress the long lines that formed the outline of the great dog. She started to run her hand across the spirals that created the wind effect and she could feel the wind pick up around her. Startled she looked to see if anyone else noticed. No they hadn't so she continued examining the carving, walking around to the other side of the pillar she continued to examine the wind. Her hair started to billow about her and her new demon markings started to glow. She closed her eyes and let the sensations flow through her. Hearing the demon howl in outrage. Suddenly she sensed a jewel shard coming out the front doors. Stepping away from the pillar Kagome walked back towards the group and watched a very beautiful human woman walk down the front steps.

"Lord Sesshoumaru, we weren't expecting you until the end of the week. It is nice to have you return so early. But I am being rude to your guests. My name is Katura, I am the royal artist and the one to produce most of the artwork you will see inside. I am primarily here to create sculptures of this party, so if you see me wandering around drawing one of you please do not interrupt me, I am just sketching for the sculpting."

"Katura let me introduce everyone. This is my half-breed, half-brother Inuyasha, the Taijiya Sango, the Monk Miroku. The Fire Neko Kirara, the Fox demon Shippo, the Demoness Sasuna, and the Miko-Demoness Kagome. I would like for you and Shaunura to show them to their rooms. Lady Kagome already has an outfit for the ball. So one need not be found for her but for everyone else please find something appropriate."

"Yes My Lord."

Kagome stood next to Sesshoumaru watching the seemingly young woman for a moment.

"Lady Kagome, before you say anything, yes I have a jewel shard. It is keeping me alive until our Lord Sesshoumaru takes a mate. at which point I will do my last work of art. A sculpture of our Lord and Lady of the West. After it is completed I will be relinquishing the shard and I will pass on."

"Ok. But I am sure Sesshoumaru will miss you greatly when you go. Maybe you can keep your shard we can find a way to defeat Naraku without all of the jewel shards."

"But it is the bargain I struck with the Lord. Many years ago. I must follow through with the agreement."

Kagome pondered that for a moment. Then she walked over to Sesshoumaru and asked to speak with him. He nodded to her and started to lead the way to one of the many gardens on the palace grounds, the gardens to the south.

"Sesshoumaru? Would you mind too much if Katura were to live even after you take a mate? At least then, she could do the art work of your future pups."

"Well, I suppose it would be-"

"And if you have all of your sculptures done by the person you know is great then you will not have to worry about the quality of the piece you are getting."

"I agree. If she would like to stay then she may but I will not hold her here against her will."

"Thanks Sesshoumaru! So would you like to continue walking with me or head back to the group?"

"I think we should continue walking."

As they neared the gardens Kagome looked over to Sesshoumaru. 'He has such wonderful eyes. I wonder if his hair is as soft as it looks. Should I touch it?' Blushing furiously Kagome looked away from him. 'I can't believe that I was considering touching his hair. He would kill me if I did that.'

Sesshoumaru was barely containing his laughter, his little miko had been staring at him. With that blush he had to wonder what she had been thinking. 'Well you know she thinks you hate humans, even after kissing her she will always believe you hate all humans until you set her straight for good.'

*I know, but how do I do that since you feel like being superior at the moment.*

'Sit her down and make her understand. You don't hate humans, just the ones that wrong you and your family. And you don't hate Hanyou's you just love to get a rise out of your brother.'

*Fine, but you must be quiet while I convince her of that.*

'Deal.'


"Kagome? Can we sit for a moment here on this bench?"

"Sure Sesshoumaru. What do you want to talk about?"

Sitting down Kagome looked up at the powerful Taiyoukai, smiling brightly she watches as he moved in front of her. Bending down to sit on his knees in front of her he kept eye contact, a slight smile played on his lips. Kagome's breath picked up speed, her heart started to race, and her thoughts started to careen out of control. 'What if he is going to kiss me again? But he hates humans. He won't kiss me again not for the rest of my life.'

"Kagome look at this Sesshoumaru and listen carefully because this is the only time you will hear me say any of this. Understand?"

Nodding her head Kagome looked him in the eyes and waited patiently for him to say what he needed to say.

"This Sesshoumaru does not hate ALL humans, just those that wish ill towards my family or myself. I also do not hate half-demons, This Sesshoumaru just finds it amusing to make Inuyasha angry. I do not hate him. Do you understand what I am trying to tell you, my Kagome?"

"I think so. Basically that your reputation as a human hater and a horrible hateful brother are not true? That you aren't really a cold-hearted demon. And that you DO have a sense of humor, I think Inuyasha pissed off is pretty funny too. Especially the very odd color he turns."

"I agree, and yes I see you do understand what I have been trying to tell you."

Leaning forward slightly he brushed her forehead with a kiss. Then he moved lower and kissed the tip of her nose, followed closely by her eyelids, her cheeks, the corners of her mouth and finally he kissed her lips. Gently at first then increasing the pressure slightly and pressing his tongue against her lips trying to gain entry. Kagome gasped, allowing Sesshoumaru the opening he was waiting for. Slipping his tongue inside her mouth Sesshoumaru growled deep in his throat, the vibrations making Kagome giggle. Suddenly Sesshoumaru broke the kiss and started growling in warning at a still invisible being approaching. Moving slightly away from her Sesshoumaru spoke in a low threatening tone, "This Sesshoumaru does not like to be interupted when the issue is of no importance. This had better be important or else your life is forfeit."

"M-my lord, Katura is showing everyone to their rooms and requested me to see if you would like her to show Lady Kagome to her room or if you would like to show her yourself." The young wolf demon was bowed so low to the ground he might as well have been kissing it.
Kagome giggled and looked at Sesshoumaru through her eyelashes. *I wonder if he would do it...*
'Of course not, he is the Taiyoukai. He just won't do it...'

"I will escort Kagome to her rooms. Tell Katura to make sure her belongings are taken to the western room. I have already discussed which room with her she will know."

"Y-yes my lord I will deliver the message to mistress Katura." Turning around the young wolf demon ran off and in his haste tried and fell over a root that was sticking out of the ground. Kagome and Sesshoumaru started to laugh together. Hers a light musically lilting laughter, his deep and full throated. Kagome loved the sound of his laugh an found herself wishing that she could forever hear him laugh like that.

"Sesshoumaru why don't you ever laugh like that? I love it, you should laugh more often. You look more handsome, younger even."

Sesshoumaru couldn't believe that he had let himself slip and start laughing. Maybe it was a good thing that he had listened to his youkai. He and Kagome had gotten closer somehow. They had shared something while sitting here in the southern gardens. Something they would both remember, and he wanted to hear her laugh. Sighing he stood. "It is time I showed you to your room. It is time to get ready for dinner."

"Alright Lord Sesshoumaru, I suppose we should head back."

"You may call me Sesshoumaru. You need not use the title, But only you are allowed that priveledge."

"Okay......Sesshoumaru."

Taking Kagome's hand he lead her to a side entrance, and walking up the stairs, he led her towards the main hall on the second floor heading west. Sesshoumaru pulled Kagome closer to him. Wrapping his tail around her waist, he started to purr softly. Kagome leaned into him and purred back, swinging her tail back and forth. A walk from the southern gardens to the west wing where Kagome's room was located normally took an hour but as they walked and lost track of time it seemed to take a far shorter time. Sooner than expected they were standing outside of Kagome's rooms. Kissing Kagome once on the forhead he bid her goodbye until dinner. Inside Kagome's room a bath was waiting for her.

Stripping off her traveling apparell, Kagome stepped into the hot, lily scented water, Sinking down into the water Kagome sighed as the dirt and grime soaked from her skin. Kagome sighed and drifted off into a daydream.


Sesshoumaru walked over toward her as she was staring into the heavens. He gently grabbed her by the waist and turned her around to face him. Sesshoumaru brought his hand up to the strap at the top of her shoulders, and undoing the tie there he slid one hand into her dress top massaging her breast, tweaking the nipple. Kagome gasped and pushed her breast further into his hand begging for more attention. With his other hand he untied the other strap and let the top fall to her waist. Bending down he captured a nipple in his mouth and began to suck lightly. The other hand started to travel down the length of her side over her flat stomach. Pushing the dress the rest of the way down her body Sesshoumaru made a path from her breast down to her stomach to the juncture at her thighs. Moving back up her body he picked her up and raced off to his room...

When Kagome heard someone knocking on the door, she jerked up and bid the newcomer to enter...
