Chapter 8: Confrontation
Sesshomaru felt proud to have such a beautiful woman on his arm. She stood proudly at his side, not ahead or behind. She was discreetly looking around the entrance hall at the warm tones on the walls, the wall scones and other discreet lighting fixtures lighting the paintings and tapestries on the walls.
He had to admit, he even enjoyed the ambiance of The Old Mill, the privacy, and the fact that they wouldn’t allow just anyone into the upper dinning rooms, which is where they were headed.
“Hello Mr. Tashio!” greeted the concierge. “We have your private dining room almost ready. Would you mind waiting just a few more minutes before we seat you and your lovely guest?” he asked.
Sesshomaru looked at Kagome, who was looking at him in wonder, and a little bit of shock. He signaled to the concierge that they would wait. He pulled Kagome off to the side and was about to ask her what was wrong, but he was interrupted.
“Kagome! What do you think you are doing in a fancy place like this? You know you don’t belong here, unless it is to do the vacuuming and dusting. Best you leave before you embarrass yourself.” Said a smooth feminine voice.
Sesshomaru never took his eyes off Kagome. He watched as first surprise, embarrassment, and finally fear flickered quickly across her face. ‘What could she have to fear from this woman?’ he wondered.
“Yes Kagome. You should leave before you embarrass yourself” was repeated in a snide male voice.
‘Wait, I know that voice.’ Sesshomaru thought. But he didn’t turn around. He was far more interested in Kagome and her reaction to the pair. ‘Usually it is me my brother goes after, not my companion. Unless, he doesn’t realize that it is me.’ Sesshomaru reasoned. ‘Let’s see how long or how far this will play out’ and he masked his aura.
When Kagome heard the first voice, she was surprised. She didn’t figure she would ever see those two again! But here they were, set on embarrassing her in this lavish restaurant. ‘How could they start this here!’ She thought in embarrassment. She glanced up her companion. He was watching her intently, not interfering. But now she knew who he was, and he would surely take his own brothers side in this. ‘Oh Kami! I hope he doesn’t just leave me here.’ She thought in fear.
“What? Nothing to say for yourself cousin? No wonder your ex-man came looking for a real woman. You’re nothing but a small mouse that is going to be trampled by the herd. Leave, before you completely embarrass the family name.” Kikyo said spitefully.
“She is already an embarrassment. Just look at the way she is dressed to eat here, in an extremely fancy restaurant. Rags! Not even any lipstick on! Pathetic!” Inu Yasha agreed.
Sesshomaru had heard about all he could take. ‘No way will they insult my mate-to-be and get away with it!’ he thought savagely. But before he could even twitch to turn on them, Kagome beat him to it.
Kagome had heard enough! She was tired of being insulted and humiliated in front of Sesshomaru! It was obvious to her that if she didn’t stand up for herself now, she would never do so.
“So what is your excuse Inu Yasha?” Kagome started sweetly. “You haven’t changed at all since the last time I seen you. Still a stuck-up child who believes the world owes him because he is a half-breed. You know, once you were a nice person. You cared about others, and helping them. Not just for your own gain, but because it meant something to help someone. You had a heart once. Now it has been smothered in blackness by my own cousin.
Furthermore you Kikyo are one to speak of embarrassing the family name! You were in a relationship, or so you led me to believe, with Inu Yasha’s older brother when you decided to go after Inu Yasha. Why? Most likely because he turned you down, or he got tired of you. Only he knows why. At least Inu Yasha, I could say I was faithful to you. Can you say the same about Kikyo? I mean, after all, we were in a relationship and she came between us. So who is to say that she isn’t doing it with someone else all over again?” Kagome ran out of breath.
“Well, it isn’t my fault that you can’t please a man so he will stay loyal to you.” Kikyo lashed out. “At least I know how to make my man happy and keep them loyal.” She smirked.
Inu Yasha didn’t say a thing. He had a flush running over his cheeks at Kagome’s words. ‘Yes, she was faithful to me, and I have been suspicious of Kikyo cheating on me for sometime now.’ He thought.
Sesshomaru had absolutely heard enough! ‘This woman dares to insult Kagome like that! It is time to make my presence known.’ He slowly let out some of his aura; it pulsed with the feeling of his anger. He noticed that Inu Yasha had froze and stiffened right up. ‘Smart hanyou. Knows when there is danger around.’ Even Kagome had stiffened in fear. ‘Well, can’t have her fearing her mate, now can I’ so he gentled his aura towards her.
Kagome noticed immediately when Sesshomaru started to release his angry aura. She was frightened that he was about to turn on her. ‘I don’t think I could handle it right now.’ She wailed in her head in despair. Then his aura that was around her gentled became almost like a caress, to both soothe and calm her. She looked up at her companion and saw anger, but it wasn’t directed at her! ‘Could it be? Was he angry on my behalf?’ Kagome thought incredulously.
Sesshomaru could see the confusion on his miko’s face, and he wanted to put her fears at ease but first he wanted to deal with her offenders.
“Inu Yasha,” he growled as he turned to face the two, noting that they both paled when they recognized him. “Why do you dare speak to my partner in such a manner?” he started coldly, staring into the hanyou’s eyes. “By Kami, why do you allow your bitch to speak towards her own family? If she cannot respect her own flesh and blood, what leads you to believe that she will respect you or our house. I know for a fact that she has not been faithful to you. She had graced other’s beds as well as your own.”
Sesshomaru turned slightly to grasp Kagome’s hand, and pull her forward so she was standing in the full light, right beside him. “This woman has more honor in her one hand than yours has in her entire body. Kagome is a beautiful, intelligent, hard-working sensual woman. And I pity you for having lost such a wonder.”
He turned himself and Kagome to go upstairs to their dinning room, than half turned back to add something as an after thought. “Oh! Moreover since your woman,” he said derisively “brought up pleasing a man, know this. Kikyo couldn’t do anything to turn me on, though she did try. TRY being the operative word.”
“Where as Kagome,” as he looked at her “all she has to do is place her hand in mine, and I want her. She pleases me very well, Inu Yasha.” He glanced back at the stunned hanyou and his red-faced companion. “VERY WELL!” Sesshomaru emphasized, before he turned and guided the also stunned Kagome to their private dining hall.
