Blossoms
Chapter VIII:
When they arrived at the camp InuYasha placed Arena on her mat and Shippo busied himself tucking her in, while Kagome started to make some tea. This was a routine they had done many times before. Sesshomaru watched perplexed from behind the trees. They certainly seemed to have adapted quite well into the routine of taking care of the human girl after she spent herself healing. Rin sat near the fire with Sango and told her all about the horrible Bog Demon. Her story became more elaborate and gory each time she retold it.
“And he actually tried to eat me! Can you believe it? And he was so smelly. I thought I might faint. And then you know what happened next, he opened his mouth and growled and he became even morrrrre smelly. Yuck. And then you know what happened, I kicked him with my feet but he didn’t even feel it! And then he told me I was going to be dessert! And then Kagome’s arrow came, and no more Bog Demon. Thank you very much Lady Sango and Lady Kagome for all your help” Rin chattered on and on.
“Did you notice that Sesshomaru had a left arm again?” Miroku whispered quietly to InuYasha.
“He did? Damn, that could be bad news. I wonder how he got it back” InuYasha responded.
There was a gasp from the mat where Arena was sleeping and she sat up with a start. Breathing heavily she looked around and smiled when she saw that everyone was okay, including Rin.
“Lady Arena! You are okay. I am glad to see you awake” Rin ran over to her.
“I am just fine, thank you. But what about you, are you okay?” Arena asked her.
“Of course I am. Thank you for healing me Lady Arena.” Rin bowed.
“We are glad you are awake Arena, how come you were only out for about half an hour this time?” Kagome asked.
Sesshomaru watched Arena with his dear little Rin. There was something strange about her. She seemed so different from other humans. He could not help noticing that even in her pale and disarranged state, she looked quite lovely. Her curly hair was wildly sticking away from her face, yet it was quite becoming. Her bright eyes shining with renewed energy. He had briefly noticed it the last time he saw her, but this time she was much more entrancing. He was angered at himself for thinking such thoughts about a mere human. He wanted to speak to her, but he told InuYasha he would not enter their camp. He felt no need to respect his brother, but as an honourable lord he would keep his word. Sadly, he turned away and went back to the edge of the orchard to wait for Rin.
The afternoon wore on and the sun was beginning to sink on the horizon. Sesshomaru became quite worried about Rin and turned to go back to get her just as he heard footsteps coming towards him. He sniffed the air, it was definitely Rin, but there was someone else, and the sweet scent of roses. He was perplexed, but did not have time to deliberate on it long when Rin and Arena came between the trees.
“Lord Sesshomaru, this is Arena, I wanted her to meet you!” Rin was very excited to introduce her saviour to her lord.
“You are Lord Sesshomaru? Of course, now I remember you. How are you doing?” Arena asked him.
“Now do you remember Lady Arena, Lord Sesshomaru?” Rin asked.
“I am fine. Rin if you are well we shall be off now” he answered blankly.
“How is your arm Lord Sesshomaru?” Arena asked. “Fine” he answered gruffly.
“May I look at it? I have never attached anything before, and I am curious to know how well it turned out” Sesshomaru, did not look like he wanted Arena examining his arm, but she walked towards him nonetheless and gently lifted up his left arm. Her cool touch made Sesshomaru’s breath catch in his chest. He was so surprised that she had the audacity to touch his person that he forgot to kill her for it.
‘What is wrong with me’ he thought to himself, ‘this is ridiculous that I should be affected by a human.’ He was interrupted by Arena’s comments.
“Everything looks okay. Does it feel the same as your right arm? Is there any scar where it was severed?”
“It is exactly as it was before” he said coldly. A little too coldly he realized and softened his tone.
“Thank you for your assistance with Rin, I am very grateful.”
“Not a problem, it is what I do. Goodbye Rin” she gave Rin a hug. Sesshomaru turned and walked away, and Rin hurried to keep up.
