~~~ Chapter 8~~~
Inuyasha hung his head down, slightly depressed. He hadn’t thought about her having to go back home or even wanting to go, didn’t want her too either. “I have no idea how you are going to get home.”
When she couldn’t get any reassurance from him she began to panic more. The thought of never seeing her family again terrified her. Not only that, but the thought of spending the rest of her life without her modern conveniences scared the hell out of her. There had to be a way back and she would figure it out. “I could jump back in the well. Maybe it will still take me back!”
Inuyasha growled and his face hardened as the thought of her leaving and never returning hit him hard. “Stupid wench!” he bellowed at her, angry with her for wanting to leave him. “Go fucking home! Even though there could be no way back! Go ahead and leave me! I should have known better then to fall in love with you!”
Sango and Miroku tried to get him to stop yelling, but he just wouldn’t stop. He continued with this, over and over again, and wouldn’t end it. Tears were streaming down his face as he continued his rant. Too consumed in venting, he didn’t notice, digging himself deeper into a hole.
She was overwhelmed with despair. It was a lose-lose situation. If she went home she would lose Inuyasha forever, if she didn’t then she’d never see her family again.
She couldn’t bear the thought of never again being held in her mother’s arms, teasing Souta, and even never again hearing one of her grandfather’s. It was just too painful. She didn’t know what to do. She had no idea how to fix it. And to make matters worse Inuyasha was furious with her for wanting to find a way home.
She shook her head as if to try to clear the fog of confusion in her mind. But as the pain in her heart increased her mind slowly began to crumble. She was going to snap. ‘No! This can’t be happening. This is not how it’s supposed to end! We’re supposed to be happy! I’m supposed to be happy! I want to go home! I don’t want to live here for the rest of my life! I want my mom! I want to see Souta again, and grandpa too! I can find a way. I could go home. But how would I get back? I can’t live without him either! I can’t win! Either way I lose! I can’t chose who it is I love more! Inuyasha is my soul mate; they are my blood! I can’t do it! There is no way! Doesn’t he understand what this is doing to me inside? Why won’t he stop screaming at me? Please make it stop! I…just can’t take it anymore… I give up!’
She fell to the ground, sobbing heavily, curled in a ball and shaking tremendously. She didn’t want to live through this kind of pain. She just wanted to curl up and die.
Inuyasha and the others froze in shock at Kagome’s reaction. No one spoke until Shippou cried out to Inuyasha. “Look what you’ve done to Kagome! She didn’t do anything to you! You are nothing but a big meanie! Why do you always have to hurt her?”
Everyone else just remained silent with his or her heads hung down.
Inuyasha smacked Shippou upside the head as he walked past him to get to Kagome. “Stupid runt! How was I supposed to know she’d react like this!”
He walked over to Kagome’s side, frowning at the sobbing figure curled up before him. He had hurt her badly and he knew it. He felt horrible for getting so angry with her. He felt bad because it made him think back to the loss of his own mother. “Please, stop crying Kagome! I am sorry! I didn’t mean to yell at you like that. I am so sorry! Please stop crying Kagome,” he pleaded with her as he knelt down by her side.
He reached out to touch her, to grab her close to his body and hold her tight, to make her stop crying. He laid one hand on her shoulder, and to everyone’s surprise, was shocked with enough electricity to knock him back at least twenty feet. Everyone gasped and Inuyasha shook it off, only to notice something very strange was going on.
Kagome began to radiate a pale pink light as her sobbing and shaking ceased, still lying in the same spot. Her eyes were open, but they had become dark, lifeless and blank. Her face showed no emotion, along with her voice, as she spoke out. “Everybody leave me alone.”
No one spoke a word as they did as they were told, leaving her to herself, all except Inuyasha. He slowly and cautiously went and knelt by her side again. “I’m not going to leave you, no matter what you do to me.”
She placed her palm directly in front of his face without looking up at him and coldly spoke, “You are one of the source’s of this body’s pain. Leave or else.” As she spoke he could see the ball of pink energy form right before his eyes.
He never thought she would do it, never thought that she had it in her, but unfortunately he didn’t realize she had apparently checked out. She released the ball of energy directed for him to his surprise, but he managed to dodge the attack before she even released it. He growled and backed away from her body as she began to aim again. “Stupid bitch!” he screamed as he walked off and sat in a nearby, but far enough off tree.
Her arm dropped back to her side as she heard him go up the tree. The whole time she hadn’t looked at him once, and beside her arm she hadn’t moved, face still blank. The sun began to set, and as if sensing the darkening sky, she closed her eyes, quickly falling to a deep slumber. She glowed even while she slept, and more so when she began to dream.
Inuyasha had moved to a closer tree while she slept, trying to keep an eye on her. There was no way he was going to leave her alone out there by herself, not after what they had been through. ‘At least while she is glowing she is easy to watch.’ He was determined to watch her through the night, but slowly, he began to nod off.
After a few hours passed Kagome awoke, still expressionless. She slowly got up to her feet and the pink aura around her ceased to glow. She began to walk to the hot springs (a good mile away!) to hopefully help her relax and think.
With every step she took she slowly began to feel the world around her dissolving beneath her. Around the sixth or seventh step she was astonished to see that the world around her had completely changed. She was no longer in the village with Inuyasha; she was at the hot springs.
It didn’t faze her for long. She was just happy to get there and not have to walk. It was an awful long walk She slowly began to undress and entered the spring, sighing with relief as the hot water soothed her body and mind.
Meanwhile, Inuyasha awoke suddenly, falling off the branch he was perched on. “Ow, stupid fucking tree.” he said sleepily, rubbing his head. He lazily looked over where Kagome was sleeping and snapped awake as he realized she was no longer there, or anywhere else to be seen.
“Shit! Where in the hell did she run off to now?!” Inuyasha roared as he tried to follow her scent. But it led nowhere, not but a few steps from where she laid, and then it disappeared. He searched everywhere he could think of her going, until an hour later he finally gave up in front of the well. ‘She must have gone home. She snuck off in the middle of the night to find a way home. She left me.’ “Screw that! I’ll just have to go get you then!” he said as he ran to the well.
Kagome appeared out of thin air, slowly forming before his eyes, stopping him dead in his tracks. She looked at him coldly and spoke. “There will be no need for that. I have not gone and am not going anywhere.”
He had no clue how she had got there, but he didn’t care right now; he had just had a revelation. “But Kagome! I’ve just figured out how you can go back and still return!” He blurted it out before she could go back to wherever she came from. This caught her attention and she arched a brow. Seeing her interest he continued. “I am able to go through the well, remember? Nothing has changed; I’ve taken someone with me before. Why wouldn’t I be able to take you?”
At those words her eyes began to soften. She sat on the well, a smile spreading across her lips. “Thank you,” she spoke softly.
He was at her side in an instant, gabbing her and holding her tight. There was no way he was going to let her get away again. He looked deeply into her eyes, glad to see emotion. “I am so sorry Kagome.”
As she gazed back into his amber eyes, she kissed him gently. “Oh Inuyasha, I forgive you; I always will.” She yawned and then added, “Can we go back to sleep now?”
He nodded in agreement, yawning himself, very much wanting to go back to bed. She grabbed his hand and they appeared next to the bed. This alarmed him and he exploded. “What!? How did we get here already!? What just happened and how?” He demanded an answer from her.
She sat on the bed and began to brush her hair, not really disturbed by his outburst. “Hmm… you know… I really haven’t had the time to think about it. But well… I… uh… think of a place that I am going and poof I’m there. I don’t have control over it yet though. It started when I woke up.”
She set the brush down and lay down on the bed, motioning for Inuyasha to come. “Come, anymore questions can wait for tomorrow.” She struck a seductive pose for him, but when he still didn’t come she pouted. “Are we going to make up? Don’t make me cry again.” Her bottom lip began to quiver.
He smiled devilishly as he began to crawl on the bed. “Oh we’ll make up all right. Now how to make that lip stop quivering.” He kissed her passionately and proceeded to undress her, as she undressed him.
They went at each other like two animals in heat, each one not being able to get enough of the other. His moans were heavy and her screams were loud, and in a matter of minutes they were both wet and sweaty. By the time they finished it was nearly dawn and they both collapsed from exhaustion. “I love you,” she whispered falling asleep wrapped in his arms.
The next day Kagome awoke wrapped in his arms, her bare skin touching his. She smiled as she quietly, unsuccessfully at that, sneaked out of the bed and dressed. She noticed his ears twitching and laughed. “I know your awake Inuyasha, so get up.” When he didn’t respond she yanked the covers hiding his naked body.
Inuyasha growled as he felt the sudden chill. “Hey! What did you do that for?” he scowled as he got up and quickly dressed himself. “Maybe I was actually sleeping! Did you ever think of that?”
“Ha!” she retorted. “Like I’m supposed to believe that! I know you too well for that Inuyasha.” With that she walked out the door, still smiling.
Inuyasha quickly followed her out the door, but she had vanished again. “Dammit, where did she go this time!” he cussed as he searched for her yet again. “You have got to stop disappearing. How am I supposed to protect you if you disappear like this?” he bellowed.
When he arrived at the well he found her there. She was leaning over the well, elbows on the ledge and face set in her hands, peering down the well. The sun that came through the trees made her hair glisten and shine. She was smiling and it made him feel good to see her smiling again. He slowly made his way over to her. “A little anxious to leave me?” he asked with a smile just barely dancing across his lips as he slipped to her side.
She smiled and smacked his arm. “I can’t go anywhere without you silly.” She got up and slipped her arms around his waist and gazed up at his beautiful amber eyes. “Will you take me now?” she pleaded as she gazed into his eyes.
Without saying a word he scooped her in his arms, kissed her softly, and jumped into the well.
