Hostage

“Wow Shippo you’re really a fast learner. This time you nearly caught as much as it did.”

“Well I learned from the best.”

Sango opened her eyes to see both Inuyasha and Shippo carrying fish in a makeshift net, each continuing their conversation not knowing that she is awake.

“So Inuyasha, when are you going to break it to Kagome?”

*Sigh* “I don’t know Shippo. I keep on hoping that there will be a perfect time but I fear its just wishful thinking.”

“You do know she’ll find out sooner or later right?”

“Yeah I know but she can be quite intimidating when she’s angry, especially when I have this damn necklace around my neck. If she wanted to, se could ‘sit’ me until my neck broke.”

“You think that’s going to happen when you tell her?”

“It might.” Inuyasha then turned to Shippo bent down and looked him square in the eye.

“I hope you don’t think me a coward because of this. Do you?”

Both Shippo and Sango were taken aback by Inuyashas sudden concern for Shippo’s opinion of him.

“W-what? Of course not! She can be very scary when she’s angry, but you don’t need to worry. If she gets mad at you I’ll take care of her.”

Inuyasha chuckled and tousled Shippo’s hair. “Glad to hear it Shippo. I didn’t want you thinking your father was afraid to face his problems.”

“I only think that about your girl problems.” Shippo replied and laughed as Inuyasha growled and began chasing him.

“Well good morning you two.” Sango said standing up.

“I take it by the net in your hands Inuyasha that we are having fish again?”

“Yep, and I am proud to say that Shippo caught as much as I did.”

“I’m afraid that you’ll have to eat on the run.” Shrugen said as he landed. “Kagome wants to talk to you Inuyasha, about something. I don’t know what it was about, but by the looks of her when she spoke, it sounded urgent.”

Inuyahsa, Sango and Shippo all looked grimly at each other, wondering the same thing. Did Kagome find out?

“All right then. After we cook the fish well leave immediately.”

“Here I can take care of that.” Shrugen said motioning for Inuyahsa to give him the fish.

Inuyasha handed him the fish, then Shrugen walked over to a nearby tree and snapped of a small branch. After clearing it of leaves, he then stuck it through a fish. Igniting his hand, Shrugen slowly rotated the fish over it until it was fully cooked.

“Wow. That’s handy.”

“Especially when were in a hurry. I can cook as many fish needed as we walk back to Kaedes.”

Walking back to Kaedes Sango began to wonder what she would find there. (Will I find a storming Kagome, waiting to sit Inuyasha to death? Or would she turn her wrath on me? She may have strong spiritual powers but she wouldn’t stand a chance against me in a fist fight. Wait, what If she doesn’t get bad at all? What if she breaks down? I know she can be a real bitch towards Inuyasha but other than that she’s like the sister I never had. Although that might change now. I guess well just have to see what will happen.)

As the group neared the village, they could tell that something was wrong. No men could be seen working out in the fields, nor children playing in the streets. Fearing the worst the group hurried to Kaedes and were met with a disturbing scene. Kagome and Miroku were standing in front of Kaede guarding her and they were surrounded by what seemed to be cat demons, perched up on the roofs of huts. Their leader was female and had fiery red hair and deep crimson eyes, which now stared in their direction.

“Ah, the half-breed returns.”

“Who are you and what do you want with us!?” said Inuyasha

“My name is Kauron of the panther demons.I am here for revenge.”

“Revenge? Why? What have I ever done to you?”

“Ages ago your father and his army fought against ours, trying to stop our attempt to take over the western lands. In the final battle your father killed ours and brought an end to the war. Humiliated, we returned to our lands and vowed to return to exact our revenge. Once we heard your father had died, we rallied our army and invaded the western lands once more, thinking that with you father dead we could easily conquer his lands. We were met with Sesshomaru and his father’s old army and we fought and lost. Now we return to take our revenge out on his sons.”

“Haven’t you learned your lesson yet Kauron? You have been defeated twice. What makes you think this will be any different?” Said Shrugen

“Who…? Ah Shrugen its you. You’ve changed. Last I saw you, you were a scrawny slave, not fit to cower at my feet.”

“Whereas you on the other hand, have not changed at all. You still have a god complex, and are still flat chested.”

Kauron eyes narrowed to slits and glared angrily at him. “You never did learn proper respect towards your superiors. I would have thought all those beatings I gave you would brig you to your senses and dulled that sharp tongue of yours.”

“That’s odd,” Shrugen said and crossed his arms on his chest “I didn’t hear any complaints about my ‘sharp tongue’ while in your bed chambers, now did I? As a matter of fact, I heard quite the opposite.”


“Enough of this.” Kauron said a slight blush on her cheeks “I did not come here to speak to you anyways.”

“Inuyasha, we will end your miserable existence, as well as your brothers. Next time we meet, will be in battle.”

“What makes you think we’ll meet again?”

“Because If we don’t…” she said and then snapped her fingers. Dozens of panther demons converged on them and captured everyone except Inuyasha, Shrugen, and Kaede.

“I will kill all your friends.”

“YOU BITCH!!!” Inuyasha yelled and drew his sword. Kauron only smirked

“There will be no fighting, no heroics, only sleep.” She said and nodded to someone behind him.

Inuyasha whipped his head around just in time to see a young panther demon girl raise her hand and gusts of sweet smelling wind came at Inuyasha and Shrugen.

“Damn… you….” Was all Inuyasha could say as he slipped into unconsciousness.

Hours later, Inuyasha woke to find everyone gone. Koga was just coming out of Kaedes hut and seemed to have fallen under the sleep spell just as he was and he didn’t look happy.

“What the hell just happened?!” he yelled.

“We were ambushed by the panther demon clan.” Inuyasha replied “they seem to have a vendetta against me and my brother and they kidnapped everyone to make sure I would follow no doubt into a trap.”

“Well what are we waiting for? Let’s go!”

“Not so fast Koga. I don’t even know where they are going.”

“Can’t you follow their scent?”

“I usually can but that sweet smell is still strong. I would have to wait until it dissipated.”

“But that could take hours!”

“That’s why they left me.” Said Shrugen. “I’ve been in their lands before, and I know where they live.”

“Yeah about that, how do you know Kauron?”

“Well as you’ve probably guessed from our verbal banter, I was that clans slave. They caught me at a young age and created some magical shackles to lock my powers away. I was often called into the bedchambers of the women, and once I had managed to exhaust one of them I escaped. The women I exhausted into unconsciousness was Kauron.”

“So she wants revenge on you, and her clan wants to kill my father’s offspring. Great.”

“Hey birdbrain!” Koga said “You said you knew were the lived. Well spit it out!”

“They live about ten miles east of here. It’s in a ravine, but its-”

“That’s all I need to hear! Don’t worry Kagome, I’m on my way!” Koga said and took off like a shot towards the panther demons lair.

“That idiot! Doesn’t he know he’s going to get himself killed?”

“Relax Inuyasha. He neglected to listen to the rest of what I ws saying. At the mouth of the ravine they have a barrier. No one can get in unless they want them too.”

“Well then let’s get going. If it’s as far as you said it was we should get there by sundown if we don’t take any breaks.”

----Elsewhere---

(Damn! How did this happen! We return to the village to see what Kagome wanted and the next thing I know, we’ve been kidnapped I knew something didn’t feel right when we got there. I should have seen this coming how am I going to be able to guard Inuyashas back if I can’t even watch my own? I’ll have to practice more once we get out of this mess. I hope we get out of this mess.)

“Sango?” jarred from her thoughts, Sango looks up ad sees Miroku looking at her with concern on his face.

“What’s wrong?”

“What’s wrong? Were being held captive by panther demons, we don’t know where we are or what they have planed for us. But what bugs me the most is I didn’t do anything to stop them.”

“Hmm…yes and I suppose that it doesn’t help that your mate has to come into a trap to save you and your companions from certain death.”

“Yeah that doesn’t- HEY! You said- But I thought- how’d you-”

“Relax Sango. I found out yesterday when I came across you with Inuyashas head on your lap. Don’t worry though, I have not told Kagome and I do not intend to.”

“That’s…a relief. For a moment I thought- Wait do you hear that?” Both Sango and Miroku fell silent and listened to one of the panther demons speaking.

“…Sesshomaru and he’s on his way. Soon we will have InuTaishou’s offspring in place and spring our trap.”

“There’s more Shunran. It seems that a long lost aquatince has returned. Do you remember him?”

“Ah so the one you let escape has returned to us. This is a pleasant surprise. So tell me, what will you do about him?”

“It doesn’t matter right now. Is everything prepared?”

“Yes. We should have enough humans for our leader to feast upon when we resurrect him. The jewel shard we took from the priestess should provide enough power to resurrect our leader when the moon rises to its fullest.”

“Good. Everything is going perfectly. By the time Inuyasha and Sesshomaru get here, we will have already raised our leader from the dead and he can at last have his revenge upon his enemy’s offspring!”


(This is not good.) thought Sango. (Not good at all.)
