Chapter Eight

Kagome rolled over and stared into the fire. The night was peaceful and quiet, no youkai to bother her. She sighed in contentment while gazing at the flames. Now if she could only kill Naraku everything would be peachy. If only those two would stop bugging her.

'He was kind of cute.' Kagome chirped in.

'Thought you said he was too pretty.'

'Not him, the other one.'

'You gotta be shitting me. You must like em small.'

'Hey, size isn't everything.' Kagome debated.

'You must have been a man in your former life.'

'You pervert.'

Laughter rang out filling the night sky and a snort followed.

Kurama and Hiei paused when they heard the laughter, it was to their left. They found the girl laying down next to a fire. She had to know they were there, a groan escaped her mouth.

"Guess we are lucky you waited until after we had our bath." She didn't look up at them as they approached her. "What now?"

"We came to speak to one of you." Kurama wasn't sure if Hiei would be able to ask. "How did you die?"

She looked up at him and gave him a wierd look. "We haven't died."

He shook his head. Obviously the girl's soul was in denail about her own death. "I see, mind if we join you?"

"Not like you'd leave if we asked you to. Just don't bother us, sleep is much needed." She closed her eyes and tried to ignore them. Just to be on the safe side she put a small barrier around herself. Her thoughts ran wild while she was trying to doze off.

'Why are they following us?' Kagome was becoming concerned.

'Maybe they like our ass, who knows.'

'Think it's safe? They might attack us.'

Kill snorted, 'I don't think so. Besides knowing you, you'd let the small one pounce on you.'

'I'm not that type of girl.'

"Right," The words slipped out her mouth.

"Talking to yourself?" Hiei threw the question out there.

"It happens." She muttered.

"Is it possible for you to let us speak to Killany in particular?" Kurama asked.

'Why are they asking about you?' Kagome pondered. 'Wait how do they know your name?'

'How the hell should I know?' She didn't open her eyes as she spoke, "Maybe, but we don't feel like talking so do us a favor and shut the hell up."

"Which one of you is the smart ass?" Hiei wasn't sure how to tell who he was talking to.

"The one that isn't a dumb ass." She began to chuckle as Kagome hollered.

'Are you calling me a dumb ass?'

'Course not. Then again you think Shorty is cute.'

'Well, you like the girl.' Kagome's laughter filled her head.

They watched as many emotions crossed her face. Finally a peaceful look took its place and her even breathing indicated that she was asleep.

Kurama watched the emotions cross Hiei's face as he looked at her. He had to be in a lot of pain but was hiding it well. 'I take it we are staying?' He tried to reach him.

'Yes, you can leave if you want.'

'No, I will stay with you.' Kurama felt the link die and sighed. He might as well try to get some sleep as well. If he knew Hiei, he's stay up all night to watch over the girl.

Kagome woke up when she heard several male voices speaking very loud. Her eyes lifted to see three more men had arrived. She groaned and rolled over sitting up. Her head snapped back to look them over. The five men were talking, ignoring her. She stood up and stretched, yawning loudly. All eyes turned to her at once.

The one she hadn't seen before came walking towards her. Her eyes landed on the Jr. on his forehead, seemed Koenma had come himself. He approached her very slowly as if unsure of himself. He stopped infront of her.

"Kagome, I am Koenma, ruler of the Reikai. It is a pleasure to meet you." He extended his hand out to her.

She extended her hand and clasped his in a soft hand shake. "Likewise." A gasp escaped her when she felt the energy surge in her hand and up her arm. Her fist came up knocking him back away from her. She stumbled back and glared at him.

"What the hell did you do?" Hiei yelled at him.

"No need to be alarmed I am simply forcing the soul that doesn't belong to exit."

"What!"

Kagome felt the first stirring of pain and the man's explanation. He was forcing their souls to seperate but it wasn't just their souls involved. She took off before any of them could stop her.
