A/N:Sorry that it took me so long to update. I´m in the last year of college and need good grades for the university. But I promise to finish this fic, it will just take longer. I try to write at school if my friends are not annoying me. Imagine a boy like Jakotsu, only less handsome, permanently oogling at the backsides of handsome men and asking me of my opinion and a girl, whining why her last diet had no effect while devouring one chocolate bar after the other. Well, it´s still funny to hang out with them.

Discovery

‘I hate this nights. I hate them with a passion’. Since she returned from the feudal era Kagome couldn´t sleep well. Thoughts of her past and her friends were always tormenting her.
She was standing in front of a mirror in the bathroom, looking intently at her face. ‘I have changed. Now that I´m older I don´t look as much as Kikyou anymore. How old was she when Naraku took her life? Sixteen?’
She sighed. ‘Nevertheless we have now similar lives…..to be the guardian, all these fights for the Shikon, Inuyasha…and the loneliness ‘.
She was tired of feeling empty, alone and lonely. They were all emotions that she never had dealt well with. ‘Sesshoumaru, you were right. It dosn´t matter how strong I´m now. My greatest weakness will always be my emotions’. Blank, dull eyes were reflected from the mirror.’ I wish I were more like you’ She leant her head to the mirror and closed her eyes. ‘Great, self-pity. Just what I needed.’
After a few minutes she looked back into the mirror ‘Maybe some practice will distract me.’ She went to her room and changed into on of her new fighting kimonos. They all consistet of two parts, the tops are like kimonos only shorter and with two slits on both sides and made of silk with a sash for her katana. The pants are like leggings, tight but comfortable and all black. She choose a red kimono top and soft black boots and walked with her katana to the dojo.

It was almost twenty minutes later as suddenly Hiei appeared in front of her, effortlessly blocking her katana with his own. He smirked at her startled look. Without a word they continued the sparring until Kagome was thoroughly exhausted.
She was lying on the floor to catch her breath as she glared to Hiei. He was leaning against the wall, arms crossed and eyes closed. His appeareance didn´t reveal that they fought almost an hour. He wasn´t panting or sweating like herself. She looked at his bare and well-muscled arms, drinking in the defined lines and his smooth skin. ‘I wonder how it would feel if I would….uhg Kagome, get your mind out of the gutter. You´re almost like Miroku or Kenji!’

Her breath caught as she saw that he also was looking at her. His left eyebrow was lifted as if to say ‘what!’ Kagome blushed and stood up. She smiled gently “Thanks, I needed that” and left the dojo a little too fast for her liking.
Hiei watched her til she was out of the building. She was really weird. But not bad with her katana for a ningen girl. Her spiritual energy was immense but her physical strenght were lacking. This could be deadly in a real fight when she had to rely on the strenght of her body.

Kagome was still slightly red in the face and mumbling to herself. ‘Argh! I can´t believe he caught me checking him out! Damn hormones!’ She sighed. ‘Well, I´m twenty years old and a virgin!’ she snickered ‘not innocent thanks to Sesshoumaru but still a virgin, and Hiei is sexy.’
She shook her head and went inside and took a long hot bath to sooth her aching limbs and afterwards finally fell asleep.

Genkai woke her up early in the morning and led her in a room where the rekai tantei and Yukina were waiting for her. Kagome greeted them and sat indian style across from Genkai. “Alright Kagome, I want to see how much power resides in you so let all of your barriers down.” Kagome nodded and took a deep breath. She closed her eyes and lifted her barriers. Her power flared to life and surrounded the whole area with a blue light. The demons stiffened first at the feeling of Kagomes energy but soon relaxed when they saw that it wasn´t purifying them. On the contrary, it was calming and left you with a warm feeling.
Hiei was confused, how could a miko´s energy calm the two raging elements in his body unintentionally. Kurama and Youko had other problems like trying to control their body. Youko was purring ‘her scent is divine and her energy; absolutely delicious. I want to taste her. Suuichi, you have to try harder, she will be ours, I don´t want somone else.’ ‘Yes Youko, it´s not often that we agree on something but you are right. The girl is beautiful, powerful and we don´t need to pretend anything. Maybe she could fall in love with both of us’
Kuwabara stared in awe at Kagome. Her power was something he never felt before. Yusuke just stood there with wide eyes ‘She´s really strong. Why didn´t she released all of her energy when we were in rekai? What is she hiding?’ he thougt.

Genkai had a serious expression and were analyzing Kagome. After a few minutes she turned to Kurama and said “Kurama, come here and take a look at Kagome´s energy. I want to know what you think.” Kagome and Kurama looked surprised to Genkai but she didn´t say anything else. The kitsune avatar sat in front of Kagome and took her hands into his own ‘So soft and warm’. He smirked at her when she raised a questioning eyebrow at him. ‘Don´t worry Kagome, kitsune are the experts on energy. Just relax and let me become one with you’. She glared at his now golden eyes but finally closed her own and relaxed. Youko could feel the glares from his friends on him and he chuckeled. He concentrated on Kagome and a soft golden glow surrounded them . As the glow vanished after some time he turned with a frown to Genkai. “I don´t know what kind it is but there is a great amount of power in Kagome.” He looked back to Kagome “But there is a barrier on it and I´m not able to break through. The amazing thing is that I couldn´t feel it earlier, that there is still so much power in you. It´s almost like even you shouldn´t know of it”. Yusuke and Kuwabara were shoked, how could a frail looking girl like Kagome possess so much energy that all four detectives together couldn´t keep up to her? Well, she was frail looking but so was Hiei. He was shorter than the others and had delicate features and still was the strongest of them. Appeareance could be deceitful sometimes.
Hiei and Yoko had other thougts. Why had the girl so much power? Was it because she is the guardian of the jewel or was there another reason? Would she still need their protection if she could harness the deep reservoir of power that resided in her?


Kagome was silent and in deep thougt, her face showed her confusion. What was going on? It was great that she still had some kind of power in her even if she wasn´t aware of it. She will definitely need it against her enemies. But why was she not able to use it? Had it something to do with the shikon no tama? She sighed. This was just frustrating. She suddenly felt like fifteen again- to possess power but not be able to use it properly. With hope shining in her eyes she looked to Genkai. Maybe the old woman had a solution for her problem. She couldn´t give up yet.

Genkai spoke again after seeing the look from Kagome. “Yes, I was afraid that you would say that, Kurama. But I know a spell which could help you Kagome. It´s an ancient spell which some youkai used on their pups so that they could gain their power faster in order to survive.”

“Youkai? Old hag, if you haven´t noticed yet she is not a youkai!” Yusuke shouted and voiced the thoughts of the other detectives. Kagome growled at him, his voice getting on her nerves. Yusuke glared back at her ‘Stupid bitch, serves her right if something goes wrong!’ Kagome turned back to Genkai, still unsure of what to do “Genkai-sama, will there be any side-effects due to my human body”? “To be honest I don´t know. All I can say is that this spell has never used on a human and the spell is so old, that there aren´t any kind of information of how the youkai on which it were used had proceeded”. Kagome groaned, unknowingly catching the interest of her allies. She really didn´t expect something else but it would have been nice if there for once were no snag in it. Alright, which options did she have? Currently she was too weak and there was no indication to when her enemy will attack. She had to try the spell as long it wouldn´t make her weaker but even that was not certain. Again she got angry ‘Fuck this! I won´t back down!’ Whith a calm voice she said “Alright, let´s do it!” Yukina who was silent until now gasped “Kagome! Are you sure? What if something terrible happens?” Kagome smiled gently at her and shook her head “I don´t have a choice Yukina, I need this power or I will fail to fulfill my duty as the guardian.” Kuwabara, Yusuke, Kurama and even Hiei were slightly worried for her but they knew what it meant to take the responsibility for something that was important to them.

Blue eyes were locked with Genkai´s, showing determination. Genkai only nodded to her and closed her eyes in concentration. After some time both were engulfed with a blue light. Kagome heared her mumbling something as an unbearable pain shook her to the core and her world went black.
