The Pure Heart of A Child
Chapter 7: A Pure Wish

‘Kagome…it has been such a long time, hasn’t it, my little miko?’ a dark familiar voice called out in Kagome’s mind, cutting through her dreams.

‘Naraku…what the hell are you doing here in my mind? There’s no way in hell I’d ever dream about you…’ she growled out harshly, annoyed for more than one reason.

‘His claws were poisoned with my miasma…you are trapped here, little miko.’ He grinned evilly and Kagome felt a searing pain go through her arms coming from the marks Kouga had given her. ‘So now you realize…much too late, little girl. Much too late.’

‘Let me out!!’ she screamed, a wave of power emitting throughout her mind. Her thoughts turned quickly to Hiei and Kurama as she struggled harder.

‘I see…you dream about that kitsune avatar and that fire apparition. You know they would never return your affections. Think back…the last time you fell in love with a demon, he chose a corpse over you…why do you think they would want you?’ the voice echoed, laughing softly.

‘Fuck off, Naraku! I don’t have to listen to you…get the hell out of my head!’ she shouted, pressing on her miko power, boosting it’s power in her mind.

‘Sorry, I think not, but I wouldn’t mind ‘fucking’ you, as you so put it. A virgin miko is just the ticket to a world of pleasure…’ his evil chuckle could be heard once more, sending a shiver up her spine.

‘Over my dead body, you sick freak!’ she shouted out, her voice turning fearful. She looked around, trying to find the source of the voice to purify it to hell and back, but all she could see was darkness.

‘They will not be able to save you, Kagome. They are currently by your bedside, watching as your body temperature slowly drops, bringing you closer and closer to death. I wonder, how will they take it when you die? Will they care, or be extremely relieved?’ he said, his dark voice echoing around her.

‘What the fuck did you do to me, bastard! Get out of my head!’ she shouted, now frantic. ‘I need to wake up, why can’t I wake up!? Dammit!’ she shouted in frustration.

‘You will never wake from this sleep. I can assure you, this sleep will be your very last, and you will watch as these two demons slowly torture themselves from the inside out as they blame themselves for not being able to save you. Contrary to my personal opinion, they actually do care for you on some level, yet they will not be able to save you from me. Your body temperature will drop to the point of no return, and you will die. As your spirit is taken to the other realm, you will watch their anguish and grief at not being able to save your worthless human life. What joy will I take in hearing your anguished cries to the point of your spirit being broken. Yes, I will be most thoroughly pleased, little miko.’ He said, sick amusement evident in his voice.

‘WAKE UP KAGOME!!!’ she shouted to herself, sending out a shockwave of power through her mind. For the briefest moment, she could feel Hiei’s presence and she shouted out his name, “HIEI!”

~*~

Kurama sighed once more and resigned himself to fate. He was falling in love with Kagome, and Youko was taking full advantage of that fact and was being a thorough pain—and not just in the butt.

Kagome stirred in her sleep, her tears long stopped sometime in the night. She shivered slightly and snuggled deeper into Kurama’s chest.

He looked down at her and frowned. He could feel the chill coming from her body and was instantly worried. He couldn’t detect any illness coming from her, so he couldn’t attribute this to a virus, which only left one explanation.

“Hiei!” he shouted out, instantly getting the fire apparitions attention. He was still contemplating the conversation he had had with the miko earlier, still debating what to do.

He was there in a moments, his face etched with worry. He had never heard that tone of voice coming from the kitsune before. “This better be an emergency or I’m going to kill you.” He threatened, looking to the red head darkly.

“She’s cold…she isn’t sick, but her body is freezing!” he shouted out, a bit of panic in his voice. She was human, being this cold for very long was extremely dangerous, and she couldn’t take much more of this.

Hiei frowned and quickly placed a hand to her skin, pulling it back quickly. ‘Human bodies aren’t supposed to get this cold…’ then he felt it; Kagome’s strain against her mind.

“HIEI!!” her voice held a chill of deep desperation and fear as it echoed around them in the room.

He quickly took off his bandana, releasing his hold on the Jagan and it immediately began to press at her mind, eager to be able to finally explore the little miko’s memories. Hiei growled as he pressed harder with the Jagan, not being able to get anything from her. Then a shockwave of energy shot backwards into him, the evil aura invading the Jagan, which made a hiss of pain escape Hiei’s mouth.

“Hiei! Hiei! What’s going on?! What happened!?” Kurama asked quickly, kneeling beside his friend on the ground.

“He’s trapped her mind…he’s placed an extremely powerful barrier around her mind. I couldn’t get through with the Jagan…she’s being tortured to death.” He said, shaking off the pain that ricocheted through his body. They looked up as her body began to shake more violently, and a very weak film of pink energy surrounded her.

Kurama’s eyes went wide and he jumped back to her and shook her almost violently. “Kagome! Kagome! Fight it! Fight him! Don’t let him win!” he shouted in desperation, his voice choking with tears. He was no expert on mental control; plants and plant energy were his specialty, but at the moment, he was seriously berating himself for not picking up the expertise.

~*~

‘Those two demons are beside themselves. They have no idea what to do to save you. They will cry when you die, and you will watch it. You will have a front row seat, my little Kagome. Your death will reign terribly on their consciences…especially that Forbidden Child. Yes, he will anguish the most over your death.’ The voice laughed once more before continuing. ‘Yes, he will hurt the most over your death. He is going to hold in his pain and it will slowly kill his mind, until the point it kills his body. He will share his grief with no one, and he will die from it. The ultimate torture…what?!’ He shouted out, Kagome wincing at the tone of voice he took.

‘He threatens even now to save you with his Jagan. Five hundred years in the Makai have strengthened my mind to the point of perfection. He thinks he can save you? Let him experience true pain…’ the voice said, before an explosion of power pulsed through her mind, flattening her to the ground as it dissipated.

‘HIEI!’ Kagome shouted, tears coursing down her face.

‘You have fallen in love with him, as well? You never were one to learn a valuable lesson. That hanyou held your heart until the very end, didn’t he? Until he too, left you for better things.’ His evil laughter swirled around her, as more tears fell down her face.

‘Fuck off, Naraku.’ She choked out, her heart shattering in her chest. ‘They…they can’t save me…he’s going to win…why am I not strong enough?!’ she shouted, getting the voice’s attention.

‘Strength, Kagome? This isn’t about strength. This is about will power, and you have none. Your will to live lies in the two desperately trying to save your life right now, and you think that one of them hates you. This is just the thing that’s going to break your spirit, miko. You will watch…you will listen!’ he shouted, as a new voice echoed in her head.

“Kagome! Kagome! Fight it! Fight him! Don’t let him win!!” Kurama’s voice reached her, shinning a light onto her.

“Kurama!” she heard her voice come out of her mouth, but unable to do anything else.

‘Let me go, get out of my head!’ she shouted again, desperation in her voice.

‘Okay, my dear Kagome. I’ll leave, but you will still not be saved. You will endure the pain of watching them die over you…oh yes, I will make you watch, even when you cannot feel anything anymore…I will torture you with their deaths…deaths that came because you were on their consciences.’ He finished, his dark laughter reaching her ears once more.

She pressed harder on her mind, pushing as much energy as she could against the barrier that he set over her, only to have it repel her and throw her back down painfully. She bit her lip, hoping that pain would be able to help her break the wall holding her inside her mind.

~*~

Kurama felt a couple of tears race down his face, and Youko was going absolutely ballistic inside his mind. ‘You must help her! He has her trapped inside her mind!’ he shouted, just as Kagome shouted out, “Kurama!!”

Her body began to jerk violently, and suddenly, she bit hard on her lip, breaking the skin and drawing blood.

“She’s not giving up—we have to do something!” Kurama said, looking desperately to Hiei, his mind going a million miles a moment trying to come up with a solution.

“I already tried my Jagan, Kurama!” he shouted, feeling utterly helpless. ‘I’m supposed to protect her and all I’m doing is taking up space!’ he yelled harshly in his mind, his heart breaking in his chest.

He jumped up and pulled her closer. “Kagome…Kagome…I know you can hear me…please…tell me what to do…how can I help you?” he said, wrapping his arms around her tighter, raising the temperature of his own blood to warm her as her temperature plummeted even further.

Kurama was too distraught to think much about what he did next. “Dammit, Hiei! She thinks you hate her! She’s going to die thinking you hate her!” he shouted, more tears spilling over his cheeks.

The fire apparition looked to his friend quickly, shock on his face. “I don’t hate her!” he shouted, his voice choking up as he pulled her closer to him.

“Then tell her.” A voice interrupted them, his voice extremely calm, considering the circumstances.

“Koenma! How do we save her?!” Kurama asked, grabbing the toddler by the collar, fear and desperation in his voice.

“I have no idea, but I suggest you get any last thoughts to her, as her body is about to die.” He said, his voice as calm as ever.

“Damn it, Koenma!” Kurama shouted out before Youko had had entirely enough and made himself quite known as he took over their body.

“You will tell me how to save her—there has to be something we can do! Something we’re not thinking of!” he shouted, his voice holding hidden despair.

“I’ll revive her…in time. She will not be totally lost to us.” Koenma said, his voice still calm.

Both demons growled at him, as Hiei focused back on her limp figure. “Kagome…don’t go…I…I don’t hate you…I…” he leaned so close to her ear that his next words were heard by no one but her as he whispered, “I love you.”

~*~

Kagome thrashed in her mind, now completely pissed off. She couldn’t get past that barrier, and Naraku was subjecting her to this. She tried to keep calm, she tried to keep pressing as hard as she could on the barrier in her mind. She would not let him win…she couldn’t.

She heard Kurama and the despair in his voice and she sunk to the floor of her mind, her heart shattering at the sound. Then she heard Hiei as he said, “Kagome…Kagome…I know you can hear me…please…tell me what to do…how can I help you?” the sound of hopelessness in his voice broke her resolve even further and she began to cry, the lonesome sound circling around her as she tried to think of something…anything…to do so that she could reassure him. To tell him that everything would be okay. That there was an easy solution, if only she could find it.

Then she heard Kurama’s outburst and winced. ‘Yeah…I thought that Hiei did hate me…but…I don’t believe that now…otherwise, why would he try to save me?’ she thought, just as Kurama finished his statement saying, “She’s going to die thinking you hate her!” Kagome looked down to her hands and promptly covered her face with them, her body now wracking with sobs. ‘I’m going to die…and I never got to tell them how I feel…I’m going to die alone in here…’ she thought, her heart clenching once more. “I don’t hate her!” Hiei shouted, making her tears stop as she looked up to the dark sky above her.

“Then tell her.” She heard Koenma’s voice next. ‘He’ll have a way to save me!’ for once, she was happy to hear the spirit leader’s voice.

She heard Kurama start shouting, and she smiled. He loved her, she knew that from the tone in his voice. He didn’t want to give up, and again, her face turned sad. ‘They are going to hurt because of me…because of Naraku. I’m going to die because of him, and they are going to suffer for it. Why…why is it always my friends that pay the price? Why do any of them even stay with me?’

Then she heard an outburst of, “Dammit, Koenma!!” followed by a new voice that Kagome didn’t recognize as they shouted out, “You will tell me how to save her—there has to be something we can do! Something we’re not thinking of!”

‘Who is that?’ she asked aloud, her head hurting now, and her body becoming really cold. She began to shiver slightly, which only got worse as the seconds passed. ‘It’s about time…I’m going to die soon…’ she thought, her mind beginning to replay the last nineteen years of her life. Ironically enough, the whole of the images were of when she was in the Feudal Era, fighting demons and laughing with her friends. As it came to the end of her life, the last few hours, she began to sob uncontrollably, blurring the images of Kurama and Hiei together as the latter’s voice reached her once more.

“Kagome…don’t go…”

She smiled. This seemed so familiar and she couldn’t help but smile at the voice once more as he said, “I…I don’t hate you…”

‘I don’t hate you either, Hiei. I wish this wasn’t so painful…I never got to tell you…how much…’
Her voice stopped as she finally said, ‘I love you…’

She stilled as the voice echoed doubly around her. She sat down and hid her head in her knees, trying to breathe properly as it slowed, cutting off her oxygen supply.

~*~

Hiei watched as her body convulsed once more, her breathing becoming harsher and harsher, her face becoming pale.

“Do you mean that, Hiei?” Kagome said, her voice deeper and older.

He looked up into her face, which was blank and devoid of any emotion.

“Yes.” He said, as her face contorted once more, shaking as she tried to talk once more.

“Then make her yours. You and the kitsune.” She said, her voice shaking slightly as strength was lost.

“Kagome?” Youko asked, walking up to her and placing a hand on her cheek.

“I am…Midoriko.” The voice breathed out, earning a squeak from the demigod.

“What in the hell, Midoriko?!” he shouted, jumping up beside them.

“There…is not…much time…you must…complete the bond…do not leave her alone anymore…” she shuddered, as Hiei looked deep into her eyes which were black as night and her lips which were turning a deep dark blue.

He nodded, his heart beating painfully in his chest. If this was wrong, he would rectify it when the time came. He looked to Youko, who nodded to him with determination on his face.

~*~
Kagome was lying flat on her back as she heard her voice, but she wasn’t speaking. Not having the strength to sit up, she just listened, and then felt the jewels power resonating within her mind.

‘Child…I have a question for you…’ a new voice asked her, as she looked up, her strength not enough to allow her to do anything else.

‘Who are you?’ Kagome couldn’t help but ask, her mind threatening to shut down permanently.

‘I am Midoriko. But please, don’t speak, just listen to my voice. Concentrate on my voice, Kagome. You must concentrate, or this will not work. The two demons whom you have fallen in love with are about to mark you as their life mate, but unless you accept them, it will destroy you. The miko blood in your veins will clash with the demon marks to the point of destruction, unless you allow it. Right now, your energy is unstable, and it will viciously attack any demon presence it feels, including those two.’ She said quickly, the voice registering rather quickly in her mind, considering the circumstances.

‘What do I have to do?’ she asked, her voice weak.

‘Remember your wish, Kagome? You wished for happiness and safety for those whom you love. Concentrate on the jewel and your wish…what do you want more than anything?’ she asked, looking to the girl as her image became known.

‘I wish…’ she paused, her earlier fears and words coming to light as she silently began to cry again, ‘…I wish I wasn’t alone…’ she said, tears snaking their way down her face.

‘Then, let it be done.’ Midoriko said, as the Shikon no Tama began to glow a bright pink, swirling energy enveloping her as she felt two separate pains in her shoulders, her mind shaking with a force never before felt by her. The pain was intense and it made it hard to even think. She screamed as her senses reawakened, her body becoming alive once more as the barrier on her mind shattered and the blood in her body warmed and flowed, now beginning to try and destroy the demons who held onto her, their teeth sunk deep into her flesh.

~*~

Hiei and Youko’s eyes met and they nodded in silent agreement before both of them moved her white shirt away from her shoulders and then bit simultaneously. Just as their fangs sank into her skin, a bright pink light flared around them, singeing them as they held onto her, but they couldn’t seem to pull away.

‘She’s going to purify us!’ Youko thought quickly, as a pain raced through him. Hiei was sweating slightly and he was afraid of purification as well. The pain swirled around him as did her miko energy, but he didn’t purify as he should have. There was pain, but he was still quite alive, and the pain was bearable.

Her earth shattering scream echoed in his ears as the power pulsed faster and faster around them. ‘I love you, Kagome…’ Youko and Hiei thought together as they held onto her, afraid to let her go, afraid that they were still going to lose her.

The power began to echo unspoken thoughts, and Koenma’s eyes were bulging out of his head as the rest of the household finally arrived, their own eyes wide with wonder and fright.

‘Hiei!’ Yukina thought, her voice echoing in the room. The three could hear nothing but each others’ thoughts as her out of control aura trembled around them with hidden power that was not being released.

Kagome shook as she held onto her power, struggling with it. The pain pulsated in her mind as she shouted out, “I can’t let it go! I won’t let it go! I will not hurt you two! I WILL NOT GIVE UP!” she shouted out, her voice echoing in the room, making everyone take a step back, including Koenma.

“What’s going on!?” Genkai shouted, her voice sounding faint in the swirling vortex of wind that had started in the center of the room, picking up loose papers and adding to the overall confusion and fear in the room.

“They marked her!” Koenma shouted back, his face full of dread the longer the miko energy revolved around Kagome, Kurama, and Hiei.

Genkai’s eyes went wide and she shouted loudly, “Everyone get down!!”

They hit the deck, and as if the energy was just waiting for her words, the power that had built up stopped twirling and pressed in on the three, pushing them closer together as the energy forced it’s way back into Kagome’s body, making her convulse and arch her back up as her small frame tried to adjust to the exponentially rising power levels.

Kagome felt like her body was going to go up in flames any moment before she felt a freezing artic wind pierce through her very blood, sending her into a blinding pain of white as she went from icicle cold to molten hot in a matter of seconds. She screamed again, her voice now coming out as a whisper as she lost all thought.

Fire raced through her body followed by a ferocious frozen wind, her body covering itself with a thick sheen of sweat as she tried to control the energy that swirled out of control inside her. Her mind ached with pain and confusion, and her body felt like putty as she screamed once more, the pain wracking her senses once more.

Then, as quickly as the pain had begun, it stopped, numbing Kagome. She was staring up at the ceiling of her room, and she felt two weights upon her, silver hair and black hair brushed against her neck as she felt two pairs sets of teeth pull slowly out of her baby soft skin, making her wince slightly. Her mind began connecting neurons once again, allowing her to begin to process what had just happened.

She couldn’t move, it was like she was in paralysis. She felt two bodies move next to her and she saw two pairs of concerned eyes. One familiar, one not so familiar. Hiei was relieved beyond relief when he saw the light of confusion and thought in her beautiful blue eyes.

“What…in the world…just happened?” She asked, her head turning slightly to Hiei and then back to Youko, as she asked with confusion in her voice, “An angel?”

They couldn’t help it. They laughed. They laughed hard, and it felt good.

After a few moments, Genkai stood along with everyone else. “You know that was very dangerous…just what in the hell were you thinking, Hiei? Youko?” She asked, taking a step towards them.

“They were saving her from Naraku. Though, I never expected a reaction like that.” Koenma said, acting again as if nothing happened.

“Dammit, toddler! How can you stay so calm!? We just about lost our entire team to her!” Yusuke shouted, his eyes glaring at the demigod.

“No, we just about lost Kagome to Naraku. He attacked her mind and trapped her there.” He explained, waving off the detective once again.

Kagome didn’t hear them fighting. Her eyes fell on Youko and she asked again, “Who are you?”

“My name is Youko, Kagome.” He said, not knowing how she would take the news, not knowing that she was aware of the whole mating process.

“You still look like an angel to me.” She said, earning another chuckle from the kitsune.

“So…what DID just happen? It was like I was burning up from fever one minute and freezing from ice the next…” she said, her face turning into a frown.

“Your body was fighting the demon mating process. Normally, a human wouldn’t have to worry about it, but you’re a miko, so your blood tried to destroy it.” Genkai answered for her, stepping toward the three.

“Okay, I can understand that, Midoriko told me as much. But…” she looked up, “How did Naraku get so powerful? I tried using all my strength on that barrier and I couldn’t even dent it…” she said, her voice turning soft.

“Barrier? You mean…he trapped you in your mind?” Genkai asked, looking sharply to her.

“Yeah…it was scary…I tried to get out, but I couldn’t. I could hear everyone else out here, but I couldn’t reach them.” Kagome said, a single tear falling down her face.

“He used his greatest weapon against you. He will no longer be able to trap your mind, Kagome.” Koenma interrupted, walking towards them.

“You broke through it, and since you have, he will no longer be able to do so. Your power has strengthened to the point of making your mental capabilities invincible.” He said, smiling, then he looked to Hiei. “You will be the only one, beside Youko and Kurama, who will be able to enter her mind. You are her mates now.” He said, smirking slightly.

Yusuke and Kuwabara looked like catfish at them, while Yukina smiled, winking to Hiei.

Kagome sighed deeply and closed her eyes. “How…how did you…how were you able to accept us?” Youko asked, concern in his voice when he heard her sigh.

“I wished…I wished I wasn’t alone...” she said, risking a small glance at Hiei, who gave her a completely understanding look, giving her the strength to continue without breaking down again. “I concentrated on the jewel and I wished that I was never alone again. It was amazing. There was a moment where I felt nothing but happiness….before the pain ripped through me like a hot knife through butter.” She muttered, her head throbbing once more to convey her point.

Youko’s and Hiei’s eyes met quickly before they focused back on Kagome.

“We should get back to sleep. I should think that nothing else will happen tonight. Kagome’s powers have seen to that.” Genkai said, looking up to her ceiling.

They followed her gaze and saw a light pink lining the walls. Kagome opened her eyes slowly and saw her pink energy above her. Her eyes went wide as she exclaimed softly, “I did that?! I’ve never been able to rectify a barrier like that before…” she said, looking to Hiei and Youko with a pleased smile on her face.

Genkai smiled and ushered everyone out of the room, leaving Youko, Hiei, and Kagome to their thoughts.

A deep sigh escaped Hiei’s lips, and Kagome looked to him, worry evident on her face. “Are you okay, Hiei?” she asked, her body finally allowing her movement as she leaned up, her hand finding its way to his cheek.

“I’m…fine. He…I couldn’t reach you, Kagome. The Jagan wasn’t strong enough to reach you. I…I…” he paused. This was hard for him. Admitting he was scared…afraid of losing her...afraid of being alone. He didn’t continue and Kagome instinctively knew what he wanted to say and filled the empty silence saying, “I know…I was, too.” Then she burst out, “But…you found me, though. You saved me. You and Youko. Both of you saved me. Midoriko asked me what I wanted, and I wanted you two to stay with me. I heard you, I heard everything, the whole time. I knew you were out here…Hiei…your voice…” she stopped as tears overtook her and she hugged him tighter, her heart on her sleeve. “Your voice was so broken sounding. I wanted to tell you that everything was going to be okay, that we’d find a way to get through this…I couldn’t reach you…” her voice sobbed out, as Youko placed a pair of hands on her shoulders sending a shockwave through her, making her gasp out and effectively ending her tears.

“What was that?!” she asked, her eyes wide as she felt a warm heat coiling in her stomach, her tears cut off instantly.

Youko smirked as he smelt her instantaneous arousal. She looked to him and moved his hands, revealing twin bite marks on her shoulders.

“So…that’s how demons mark each other? Is there anything else to this?” she asked, scooting back and bringing her demon mates back with her as each one sat next to her, their backs resting against the headboard, as she finally calmed after the entire experience.

A similar sigh of contentment escaped all of them before Youko answered, “Besides the actual ‘mating’?” he smirked as Kagome blushed a deep red.

“Yes!” she retorted, which didn’t sound so menacing, as her voice came out in a squeak.

“We share blood with one another.” Hiei said, his voice still quite weary, getting Kagome’s attention immediately. “Hiei? Are you sure you’re okay?” she asked, looking to him with deep concern in her eyes.

She didn’t wait for a response before she brought him over onto her lap. He was heavy, but the weight was comfortable. She held him and he rested his head in her chest, his body settling down as he heard the steady rhythm of her heartbeat.

“Hiei…” she whispered out, before tilting his head up to meet her eyes. The confliction and worry in his eyes was like nothing Kagome had ever seen before, and it almost made her choke up at the emotions he held…emotions for her.

She leaned down, bringing his face up to meet hers as she pressed her lips against his, Kagome’s powers flaring slightly to even further calm the atmosphere around them. He pressed up against hers harder, his heart beating painfully in his chest as he realized that she had accepted him. She wasn’t mad about the mating, she wanted to be with him. It was something she always wanted from him. Just to be with him. To not be alone. Just like him.

Youko smiled and placed a hand around Kagome’s shoulders. This was Hiei’s time and he wouldn’t interfere.

After a few moments, they broke apart and Kagome whispered to him, “I love you.” Then she pulled him closer into her arms, her head resting on his much like she would do as she comforted a child.

Hiei felt his eyelids grow heavy, and he struggled to keep them open until Kagome whispered to him, “Sleep, Hiei. Relax. I’ll be right here when you wake up.” She said, smiling softly to him. Within moments, he was asleep, getting the first night of peaceful slumber he had ever experienced.

“I almost forgot…” Kagome started, looking to Youko after Hiei had fallen asleep, “…how is Kurama? I heard his voice…he sounded…angry and hopeless…” she held back her tears as she looked away from him.

He pulled her face to stare at him once more, and her sapphire eyes met his golden orbs, leaving no room for discussion as their lips met in a silent conveyance of feelings. Kagome smiled into the kiss, making a soft growl escape the kitsune as he released her and said, “That was from him…he said that you better not do anything like that ever again, or he’ll kill you himself. You almost gave the kid a heart attack.” He said, smirking.

‘Don’t give her that! I wasn’t the only one!’ Kurama protested in the back of the kitsune’s mind.

She nodded, her eyes softening, as Kurama emerged, his emerald eyes replacing golden. “I love you…I was so afraid…” he said, pulling her into a strong embrace. Kagome hid her tears once more as she felt his body shaking in fear, even though the danger had passed.

Kagome sighed, her body relaxing finally, and her body temperature quite normal as exhaustion flooded her. “Time to sleep…” she yawned out, leaning against the red headed kitsune avatar.

“I agree…” he said, matching her yawn as he rested his head against hers and each one fell asleep.

~*~

“Dammit! How could she slip through my fingers once more!? She should have not had the power to break that seal on her mind!” an irate Naraku shouted out, grabbing a glass and throwing it against a stone wall, shattering it.

He quickly looked to a simple crystal ball in the center of his chambers, placing a hand over it, attempting to pull up an image that only came out as a fuzzy fog. Confusion swept across his face before it replaced itself as anger.

“How has she overcome my power?! How?!” he shouted to himself, his eyes bleeding crimson. A saimyoushyou buzzed loudly, getting his attention.

“News?” he questioned, his anger fading slightly.

The bug buzzed some more, and an evil grin swept across his face. “I see. Thank you.” Then the insect flew away and he turned to the crystal ball once more, this time an image of a kitsune coming up.

“I will break her spirit yet…the little miko will pay for her insolence in blood.” He whispered out menacingly, his voice echoing in the dark chambers.
