The Jewel of Truth

Chapter Seven

Rae and Kagome were sitting outside early the next morning. Kagome had decided to get some fresh air while Rae jumped at the chance to stretch her sore muscles. Neither girl had slept very well during the few remaining hours. Rin had joined them as they walked outside into the bright morning light. Passing the study confirmed that both brothers were still inside trying to find a solution. Sesshomaru was no doubt going over the scrolls while Inuyasha bugged him.

Kagome took a seat across Rae wondering if she should ask the girl what had occured between her and Sesshomaru. Since waking up and dressing she had been quiet. "Wonder if Sesshomaru will find anything in the scrolls that you found."

"Maybe, I hope anyways. The sooner we get this done the sooner I can go home." Rae could see the study windows from where she was sitting and glanced over. Her thoughts returned to the cold Lord. Why had he touched her? When Kagome had spoken of him days before she'd made it seem that he disliked most humans. She had spoken of her first meeting with Sesshomaru and how he had despised the fact that his father had chosen a human woman. She had even quoted something Sesshomaru had said, "Why protect them, Why love them?" She would just pretend last night didn't happen. If something that felt that good could be forgotten then she would do it.

Unknown to either of the girls two pairs of golden eyes watched from the window. Kagome tried bringing the girl out of her shell. "So what kind stuff does being a cheerleader require? Do you have to know how to do things like flips and such?"

"Yeah, the basic stuff. Sometimes it takes more but its not that hard really."

"I thought of trying out for the high school team but the thought of doing a flip and landing flat on my ass changed my mind. The most I can do is a split." Kagome was sure the last time she'd done one had been years ago at her friend Yumi's birthday party.

"Really in my opinion thats the hardest thing. Maybe you should have tried out. Go ahead and try to do a split let me see how far you can go down." Rae watched as Kagome stood up, spreaded her legs and slowly made her way to the ground.

Inuyasha and Sesshomaru had been discussing their options while looking out the window watching the trio. Rin could be seen running around the girls while they seemed to be having a conversation. He felt all his blood rush to his lower head as Kagome stood up and began to lower herself to the ground. He suddenly wished he was the ground at that moment. Sesshomaru smelt his brother's arousal and growled, "Control yourself half breed."

He glanced back in time to watch Rae place her hands in front of her and swing her legs behind herself to land in the same position as the miko had taken with little effort. His demon roared to life flashing images of what he could do with someone that flexible. Excitement shot through his veins causing Inuyasha to laugh before he mocked, "Control yourself, Sesshoooo- maruuuuu." He looked from his brother to see that him and his half-breed brother weren't the only ones effected by the two human females.

Kagome was commenting on how flexible Rae was and asking questions about the perfect exercises to get in shape. Lord knows that she needed to be in better shape considering she was hoping to stay in this age with Inuyasha. A shadow fell across the two blocking the sun.

Rae turned her face to the right to see several demons standing beside her and Kagome. She felt the girl stiffen but didn't see what the problem was. So what if they were demons didn't mean they could push them around. "Do you mind moving you are blocking the sun." It didn't come out as a questin but a command.

"Well, well look what we have hear boys. Some uptight human bitch telling us what to do. Who do you think you are? Humans should learn their place." He turned to growl at the human child not standing too far away who was playing unaware of the hostility shot in her direction. He glanced back down at the two females at his feet. He'd came back from patroling his Lord's lands to find out that two human females had spent the night. More than likely Sesshomaru secretly had the same sick desire of his father and liked to rut with human women.

Rae saw the look directed to Rin and stood up to defend the girl. "Takes a real coward to show hostility towards a poor defenseless child. Why don't you leave your foul scent is smelling up our air."

Kagome felt her heart stick in her throat. She had just insulted one of Sesshomaru's guards. Was the girl asking for trouble? Neither Sesshomaru or Inuyasha knew where they were. That demon could kill her before she could scream. "Rae perhaps we should leave."

"I'm not going anywhere. We were here first and he is the one without any manners. His bitch mother must have forgot to teach him some." She felt a sharp pain across her cheek and felt her lip bust. 'That bastard just slapped me.' Through her ringing ears and Kagome's scream she could hear their laughter. Without thinking she brought her foot up and slammed it into his groin causing him to double over in pain. The other's broke out into laughter once again seeing their comrade go down. But Rae wasn't done with him. He was a demon and she was human female so she figured it was fair to hit him while he was down. She brought her knee up slamming it into his face breaking his nose. He landed on his side holding his busted nose and his throbbing balls.

"You fucking bitch, I'm going to kill you." He tried to grab for her foot but she stepped back and kicked him in his side. She was about to deliver another kick to his side when Inuyasha grabbed her from behind pulling her off him.

They both saw the guard strike the girl and ran out to intervene. Inuyasha hadn't expecting to find her giving him a good thrashing. He tried to hold the girl still but she was kicking in his arms threatening more bodily harm to the downed guard. It was obvious to everyone who had taken the greater beating but it was the fallen man that Sesshomaru approached.

Sesshomaru felt his anger soar when he watched one of his guards, he couldn't recall the man's name, strike the girl. He walked out while Inuyasha had ran. He spotted Inuyasha holding the girl in his arms and the man was on the ground. He naturally assumed that Inuyasha had done the damage. He reached down to pick the demon up by the neck squeezing as he tried to gasp for air. He could smell the girl's blood and his demon side wanted to tear the him apart. "Inuyasha take all three of them inside, NOW."

Inuyasha was about to retort but decided against it. Sesshomaru was probably about to do something he didn't want them to see. He carried the still struggling girl inside and Kagome grabbed Rin's hand pulling her inside also.

When Sesshomaru heard them enter the castle he addressed his guards standing before him, "This Sesshomaru will only warn you once. If any one of you so much as touchs what belongs to me I will make sure your death is slow." He inserted his poison claws into the mans neck and felt his skin start to burn.

The man spoke past his burning throat. "But my lord, I didn't touch your ward. I struck the whore not the child."

Sesshomaru's eyes tinted red as he squeezed the life out of the man, "That whore which you speak of is The Lady of the Western Lands, and belongs to me." He let the man drop and the other grabbed him pulling him out of Sesshomaru's sight. Whispers were heard as they left. Rumors began that the lord had taken a human female as his mate.

Kagome handed Rae a wet cloth to wipe the blood from her lip. The girl winced in pain as she tended to herself. They were once again in the study waiting on Sesshomaru. "I thought you said you couldn't fight."

"I can't," she sat back into the chair. "I don't like to be hit though. Just because I don't know how to fight doesn't mean I'm a pushover. Besides I didn't even think about it, I just felt like hitting him. Did you see the way he looked at that kid?"

"Yeah, I did. Maybe we should tell Sesshomaru." Kagome jumped when a voice rang behind her.

"Tell this Sesshomaru what?" He walked into the room not glancing at the girl sitting but turned his eyes to his brother's miko.

"That guard outside, I'm not too sure but it seemed that he was threatening Rin. We might have been mistaken but he definitely holds something against the girl." Kagome wasn't sure how to explain the look the guard had given the girl.

"What happened to cause the disturbance?" Sesshomaru was still ignoring the girl and it was begining to grate on her nerves. Like he couldn't ask her since it had been her that the jerk had slapped.

Kagome just stood there and wrung her hands. Because Rae had kind of started it by insulting him. But the guard was the first to strike out.

Rae felt her anger growing when he refused to acknowledge her presence. When he turned to Inuyasha looking for answers she snapped. Like he would know what happened he hadn't been outside till it was over. She jumped to her feet and shouted. "You're stupid guard didn't have any manners so when I pointed out this fact the bastard hit me. NO ONE hits me got it. I won't apologize for what I did." She sat back down and took a sudden interest in something outside.

Sesshomaru turned to Inuyasha for answers. His brother hadn't been the one to hit the guard, his gaze took in the girl that was now staring outside. He thought back to seeing the hanyou holding the girl suddenly realising he hadn't been holding her in a position of protection but one of control. He had been trying to control the girl that he had obviously pulled off the guard. He felt his lips start to curl into a smile but drowned the urge to laugh. "Very well." He left it at that and went to his desk.

Kagome decided to change the subject, "So have you found anything that can help us?"

"Yes, we will leave in the morning but first the girl must do something." All eyes turned to him. He threw a scroll across the room which Rae caught and started to read. "There is a way to transform them back allowing us to kill them. First we need to destroy the apparations that represent them causing them to weaken. This Sesshomaru is pleased to say that you two have already started the chain to trigger their down fall."

"Are you telling me there are more of those things out there?" Inuyasha asked.

"Five more to be exact and my guess they are going after the other lords as we speak. I would assume I was the first target because of their hate for our father. We have to find the other five and quickly."

"So what exactly are we going to be looking for?" Kagome asked Sesshomaru but Rae answered reading from the scroll.

" The dog is strength, the cat is prowess, the monkey is wisdom, the bird is freedom, the turtle is will, and the horse is heart. Destroying all six will weaken the gods making it possible to recite the incantation where the change occured, undoing what was done. The dog is what was we killed yesterday, one down five to go."

"So how are we going to kill these things?"

"We will split up searching for them to save time." Sesshomaru tried to continue but Inuyasha rudely cut him off.

"You must be out of your fucking mind. Kagome will obviously going with me and how would you suggest me and her kill them? Are you trying to send us out there to die."

Kagome blushed at his statement. Sesshomaru's patience snapped, "Shut up and I will tell you how. Kagome will go with you and I will take the other girl." Rae didn't like the fact that he called Kagome by name but refered to her as the other girl but kept her mouth shut. "The girl's blood is all thats needed to destroy the apparations. A small amount on the miko's arrow was all that was needed to destroy the first one. You and I will just have to coat our father's fangs with her blood making them useful against them."

"What," she jumped up from her seat. "Do you think I'm going to stand here so you can spear me with your damn sword?"

"We will only need a small amount enough to coat them. A small incision will be enough to get what we need." Jaken ran in to hand his lord what looked like a bowl made from silver. "This bowl will keep the blood fresh, so we can put several coats on the blade. I will heal you when I have enough. What did you tell this Sesshomaru last night? Get over here and bleed already."

She took a step back and promptly gave him the finger. "Bleed this asshole." His growl vibrated through out the room but she held her ground.

Kagome stood in front of the girl grabbing her hand. "I know its asking a lot and Sesshomaru was rude to demand it of you. I will apologize for his behavior." She gave her the best puppy dog eyes she had. "Will you please do it for me? Think of all the innocent people you will be saving."

"Don't apologize for this Sesshomaru, he isn't sorry."

Rae thought about what she said and sighed. "Okay, but I want to be healed as soon as he has enough." She walked over to extend her hand over the bowl. Sesshomaru took a step forward trying to grab her hand which she yanked back. "No, I don't want you to touch me. Let Inuyasha do it."

"Very well." He stepped back and let Inuyasha take over. His ire flared at the thought that she would rather have his half breed brother touching her over him. He watched as Inuyasha took the girl's wrist and slit it open causing blood to pour out into the bowl.
After several minutes he watched the bowl begin to fill and decided to stop it before she bled to death.

Rae watched her blood pool out not realising it would be that thick. Her stomach lurched at the sight and for a minute the urge to vomit consumed her. She felt someone grab her hand causing a tingling sesation to spread up her hand. She wasn't sure but for a minute she thought she saw concern in Sesshomaru's eyes as her vision began to blur and turn black.

He caught her as she passed out from the loss of blood. He held her up with one arm and unsheathed Tensiaga laying it upon his desk. "Inuyasha use that tool there to put the first coat on both fangs. I will tend to the girl and try not to make a mess." He picked her up bridal style and carried her to his room.
