Informative Encounters

A/N: Here it is quicker than I expected. There is a LEMON I hope you enjoy.
______________________________________________________________________

InuYasha carried Kagome through the well and took her straight to her room. Once she was resting comfortably in bed he went down stairs. Her mother was in the kitchen preparing lunch. “Oh hello InuYasha.” She said. “Where is Kagome?”

“Upstairs sleeping.” He replied.

Something in his tone bothered her. “Is something wrong?” she asked.

“I don’t know.” He growled. “She sleeps so much and she only eats in the evening, Miroku thinks it’s because the pups are hanyou, but no one can tell me for sure.”

“Well it’s normal for a woman to need more rest and to have less of an appetite at the beginning of her pregnancy.” Asami tried to assure him.

InuYasha shook his head. “She don’t eat less. In fact she eats more, but she won’t eat anything but meat that has been warmed more than cooked and when I say she sleeps more I mean she won’t be awake until dinner and then she’ll go right back to sleep.” He explained. “She’s scared. I can tell, but she don’t have time to really worry about it since she’s always sleeping. I don’t know what to do. Kaede baba couldn’t help, so I brought her here. As much as I hate it, if the healers hear can’t help we are going to have to set out even with her being vulnerable and try and find a couple of hanyou that we know and ask their mothers if the same thing happened to them.”

Asami put her arm around him. “It seems like you are doing everything you can to help her.” She offered. “Kagome is strong. I am sure she’ll be fine. You’ll figure out what is going on. I have faith in you to take care of my daughter. Now if Kagome will only eat meat then that is what she will get because something is better than nothing. I have to run to the store.” She brought over a large bowl of rice and some cooked vegetables. “Help yourself to some lunch, but try and leave some for Jii-chan, or there is some ramen in the cabinet. I’ll be back shortly.”

Truthfully Asami was more concerned than she let on. What InuYasha had described was not anything close to normal, at least not for a human pregnancy. She didn’t think that the doctors here would be able to help, but was comforted to know that InuYasha still had somewhere else to turn for information.

That evening Asami called InuYasha into the kitchen when she started to prepare dinner. He saw a stack of meant on the counter.

“How many should I make for Kagome?” She asked.

He picked up on of the packages and felt its weight. “Two, but don’t start them yet. She won’t be up for another hour or so.”

“And yours?” She questioned.

“I eat with Kagome.” He replied.

InuYasha was sitting at the kitchen table with Kagome’s family. They all looked at him curiously when he got up and headed for the stove. He turned it on and started to cook three steaks. He was putting the second on a plate when Kagome entered the kitchen.

He brought her a plate and set it in front of her. Kagome was oblivious to her family and picked up the meat with her hands and started to tear into it. Asami looked at InuYasha as he sat beside her daughter. He just shook his head. Kagome finished her food and looked at him.

He took her plate and slid his in front of her. Again her mother stared at him.

Kagome finished eating and InuYasha wiped her face with the sleeve of his haori before picking her up out of the chair. She wrapped her arms around him neck and promptly fell asleep.

“Let me put her to bed, first.” InuYasha said to her mother who clearly wanted to talk to him about her daughter.

Gently he lowered Kagome onto her bed and pulled the blanket over her. He smoothed her hair. “You better be all right wench.” He said softly. He kissed her forehead and went back downstairs.

He was surprised when her mother presented him with a plate. “Thanks.” He muttered.

“I see now that you weren’t exaggerating.” Asami offered. “I must say this is most unusual. I don’t think anyone in this time is going to be able to help her. In fact if she goes to the doctor and tells her about what is going on it is likely that they will hospitalize her and then you won’t be able to ask anyone in your time without leaving her, which I know you won’t do. I will call and cancel her doctor’s appointment. I think it best if you set out right away to speak to these other hanyou.”

“I was worried that you would say that.” He admitted.

InuYasha came into the hut wearing Kagome’s backpack and holding her in his arms. “Let’s get moving. We’re going to see Jinenji first.”

Sango and Miroku started to gather their things. “The healers in Kagome’s time couldn’t help?” Sango asked.

“Kagome’s mother said that if we took her to a healer there that they would want to keep her and I wouldn’t be able to bring her back with me. She also doesn’t think they would be able to help, so we’re only going to take her to them if Jinenji and Shiori can’t tell us anything.” InuYasha replied.

“Is Kagome going to be all right?” Shippou asked.

“She better be.” InuYasha replied.

To their great misfortune the second day into their journey they were met by a large oni sent by Naraku to bring him Kagome. He had also sent along his poison insects to keep Miroku from being able to use his kazanaa. InuYasha had of course smelled the youkai coming and hidden Kagome leaving Shippou and Kirara to watch over her.

Without Kagome to let them know they didn’t realize the oni had two shards until they were shown a measure of its strength. InuYasha jumped at the beast only to be batted away and into Sango. They both tumbled together and knocked Miroku from his feet.

InuYasha was trying to get to his feet when he saw the oni headed straight for the spot he had left Kagome. Kirara had transformed and suddenly Kagome came running out of the bushes. At least he thought it was Kagome until he saw the bushy tail.

Thankfully the oni was convinced and chased after Kagome’s likeness. InuYasha struck at the oni’s back with the Tetsusaiga just as a large clawed hand closed around Shippou. He split the oni in two, and with a pop as he fell Shippou turned back into himself.

“You all right kid?” InuYasha asked. Shippou nodded. “We think it had a shard. Look for it while I get Kagome. You did good runt.”

Shippou was so shocked by InuYasha’s words that he stood there frozen for a whole minute before scampering around in search of any shard the oni might have had. The buzzing of the poison insects guided him and he unleashed his fox fire. He picked up the shard and saw the insects leaving. He frowned noting that they had a shard of their own.

He went to find InuYasha.

InuYasha was holding Kagome as Shippou came bounding over. “Did you get it?”

“I got one, but Naraku’s insects got the other one. I’m sorry.” Shippou replied.

“Don’t be sorry.” InuYasha told him. “You protected Kagome and got us a shard that ain’t bad for runt like you. Now let’s go. We should be able to make it to Jinenji’s by nightfall if we hurry.”

Fields of herbs came into sight just as the sunset. They made their way to the small hut and Miroku rapped on the wood or the doorway with his staff.

The mat moved to reveal a familiar hulking figure. Jinenji looked at the sleeping miko in InuYasha’s arms. “Is Kagome unwell? Please come in.”

InuYasha sat down inside cradling Kagome in his lap. “Where’s your mother?”

“Mother died last winter.” Jinenji replied sadly.

“Damn.” InuYasha growled.

“We are sorry for your loss.” Miroku offered.

“What brings you here?” The hanyou asked.

“We were hoping to speak to your mother about when she carried you.” Miroku explained. “Kagome is with child and we believe the fact that the child is hanyou is causing her unusual behavior. She sleeps waking only once in the morning when she is ill and once in the evening to eat.”

“I am sorry I am unable to help you. Kagome was kind to me.” Jinenji said. “The best I can do is give you some herbs that should ease her sickness when she wakes, if she drinks it before going to sleep each evening. You are of course welcome to spend the night in my home.”

InuYasha laid Kagome down. “I gotta go hunt for Kagome. Watch her for me.”

InuYasha left the hut and took off into the trees. He had been counting on being able to talk to the old witch. He wasn’t even sure where to find Shiori and her mother. His claws cut through a large tree as he vented his frustration. Damn it. If I can’t find out what’s wrong with her and she don’t get better then it’s my fault.

After several more minutes and a few more felled trees he started to search for something for Kagome to eat. He didn’t go back until he was sure that he had enough to satisfy her. He entered the hut with the meat already skewered and when Kagome started to stir he placed it over the fire.

Kagome rubbed her eyes as she sat up. She looked around the hut. “Jinenji...When did we get here?”

“Not too long ago.” Sango offered.

Kagome nodded and started to eat. She finished the meat and InuYasha could tell right away that something was different. Kagome’s scent changed suddenly and she looked at him. Her eyes weren’t tired, but dark and sparkling lit with desire and need.

InuYasha closed his eyes. He was downing in the sweet heady scent of her arousal. A soft whine reached his ears and his eyes snapped open. The voice of his youkai demanded he answer her call.

Mate wants us . . .

I can’t be thinking about that now.

Mate needs us . . . Pups need us.

InuYasha didn’t fully understand what that meant but his instincts were all telling him that he must answer Kagome’s plea. He picked her up and left the hut without a word.

“That was strange.” Sango offered. Everyone else nodded.

As soon as they were out of the hut she leaned up in his arms and kissed him. “Hurry.” She pleaded. “It hurts. I need you.”

She whined softly and he leapt into the first tree he came to. She straddled him, her legs hanging down and tugged at the ties of his hakama as he kissed her roughly. It came free at last and he tore off her underwear. She freed him and another whine escaped her.

He lifted her and swiftly brought her down along his length. She cried out in release as soon as he was fully sheathed inside her. A harsh growl escaped him as she used the hands on his shoulders to move along him. His lips fell over her neck with a fervor and her ragged breathing filled his ears.

“InuYasha . . . ah, don’t stop . . . please.” She begged as he lifted her only to pull her back down against him.

“K’gome.” He rasped as he nails bit into his shoulders through the fabric of his haori.

She buried her face in his neck muffling her cry as she reached her peak for a second time. He couldn’t take it any longer as she gripped him from the inside and he spilled himself inside her.

InuYasha fully expected her to be tired now and to fall asleep in his arms instead she licked along the edge of his ear. “Again.” She breathed as she ground against him.

InuYasha loved mating with her and had in fact been aching to have her, but he was troubled by her strange behavior. “Kagome, koishii are you all right?”

“I don’t know.” She replied. “I just . . . I need this. I’m sorry.”

He shook his head. “Don’t be sorry, especially not about this.”

He captured her lips in a searing kiss. The next time the found release together Kagome slumped against him and in second she was fast asleep. InuYasha smoothed her hair. He jumped down and set her on the ground long enough to retie his hakama and wrap his haori around her. He returned to the hut and sat in the corner holding Kagome in his lap. He closed his eyes and ignored the strange looks the other occupants of the hut were giving him.

*****

In the morning Kagome woke in her ususal way and rushed out of the hut. InuYasha followed her so that he would be there to pick her up once she was finished and ready to go back to sleep. Jinenji gave then some herbs as well as some dried vegetables, and rice to take with them.

They all figured that the best place to start looking for Shiori and her mother was in the village they freed from the torment of the bat demons and head out from there.

It took two days to get to the village and none of the villagers had any clue as to where they had gone, nor did they care. InuYasha decided to head in the direction they had last seen Shiori and her mother traveling. Three days of fruitless searching finally led them to a small village where the villages spoke of a woman and her strange child that lived in the forest only coming into the village to trade.

InuYasha had nearly been at his wit’s end and couldn’t remember feeling more relieved when a very small poorly built hut came into sight and in front of it was a girl of about eleven with long shiny white hair. As if that wasn’t enough to confirm that they had found the bat hanyou and her mother the scent of them that covered the area was.

Shiori recognized them and called out for her mother.

The woman stepped outside and upon seeing them walked over to greet them. “InuYasha what brings you and your friends here?”

“I need to ask you some questions.” He replied.

“Well you are of course welcome in our home. Please come inside.” She offered. Shiori’s mother looked at Kagome. “She looks like she could use a place to rest.”

They went inside and there was just enough room for them all to crowd in, with Shippou and Shiori remaining outside to play. “I need to know everything you can tell me about whelping a hanyou.”

The women looked properly shocked. Sango spoke up to explain things. “Kagome isn’t simply tired. She is carrying InuYasha’s child and you are the only person we know who has also carried a hanyou. We need to know if what she is experiencing is normal. That is why we are asking. Please will you help us?”

“I don’t know that I can.” She replied. “What is happening to her?”

“She sleeps almost all the time, only waking at night to eat and in the morning to be ill.” Miroku told her. “She will consume nothing but under cooked meat. Did you experience anything like this?”

“Well I was very ill, but it was in the evenings and Tsukyoumaru taught me how to prepare a special tea that made me well. I had only to drink it each day.” She told them. “I do remember being very tired, but the tea helped that as well, but nothing like you are describing, and I’m afraid I cannot remember how to make it. The only other thing was that I did have strange cravings. Sometimes meat and others fruit. That’s all I can think of.”

“Damn it.” InuYasha growled. “What the hell am I going to do now?”

“Can you think of no one else who might know something to aid you?” Shiori’s mother asked.

“Everybody who knew my mother is dead, except my bastard half brother.” InuYasha said.

“What about Myouga?” Miroku offered suddenly remembering the old flea demon. “He is your retainer and he knew your mother. Perhaps he can offer some insight.”

The frown in InuYasha’s brow eased a bit as he looked at the monk. “Fuck. Why didn’t I think of that before? That jiji is full of shit he likes to tell me whether I want to hear it or not. The only problem is I never know when he’s going to show up.”

“He’s friends with Totosai, right?” Sango asked. “Could he know where to find Myouga?”

InuYasha was immeasurably encouraged by Sango and Miroku. They weren’t giving up and neither would he. He would search all of Japan if he had to. He would find someone who knew something that would help Kagome. “You two are good for something after all. It’s still early if we leave now we can get a good start in the right direction.”

Miroku and Sango nodded coming to their feet. It was good to see InuYasha once again looking hopeful. “Thank you for your hospitality.” Miroku said to Shiori’s mother.

“I’m sorry I wasn’t more help after what you did for Shiori and me.” She offered.

“Keh, don’t worry about it.” InuYasha replied as he headed outside.

*****

InuYasha was leaning over to put Kagome’s dinner on the fire, since she had just come awake, when a foul stench blew their way. Suddenly he felt Kagome clutching the back of his haori tightly and he couldn’t contain the growl that welled up inside him Even as he came to his feet Kagome refused to let him go. The scent of her fear was making his youkai blood boil.

The others in the group were looking at him curiously.

“Sesshomaru is coming.” InuYasha informed them.

Behind him Kagome pressed herself even closer to his back as if she was trying to disappear into him. He could feel her body trembling and her breathing was much too fast.

“Koishii, he won’t touch you I promise.” InuYasha said gently. “I need you to let go.” He could feel her shake her head against his back. “I’m not going to leave your side, I am just going to turn around.”

Finally her grip loosened and he turned pulling her to his chest. She pressed her face against his chest as he ran his hands through her hair. She whimpered quietly, but ceased when a low predatory growl began to pour from InuYasha. She didn’t dare look up.

Sango and Miroku didn’t know what was going on but they deduced that Sesshomaru had obviously done something to Kagome and it must have been very bad to have her so frightened.

“He has shards.” Kagome whispered.

“Did you come to die bastard?” InuYasha growled as Sesshomaru stepped out of the trees.

Sesshomaru looked at his brother and the terrified girl in his arms and once again the shame of his actions took hold of him. He had dishonored his father’s blood and should InuYasha demand it he was bound to offer his life.

“No. I detected your scent and thought these would be best served under her care.” He replied throwing a small pouch that landed at InuYasha’s feet.

“The shards.” Kagome said quietly. “Five I think, big ones.”

InuYasha looked at the bag and back at his half brother. It was obvious Sesshomaru was waiting to see what he would do. InuYasha considered his options. He could kill Sesshomaru which was exactly what the bastard deserved. He could let him life for now, and kill him later when Kagome wasn’t stuck to him like his own skin. The final option he considered was letting him live in exchange for information that might help Kagome. There was nothing guaranteeing that Myouga knew anything or that they would be able to find the old flea demon. To return his brother’s life simply meant that when InuYasha did get around to killing him he could fight back, and that was something he could live with.

“Sesshomaru tell me everything you know about a human woman whelping a hanyou.” He demanded. “I know you were around when haha-ue carried me.”

“Why would this Sesshomaru help you further taint our noble father’s blood with your half breed offspring?”

“You’re one to talk about tainting oyaji’s blood after what you did.” InuYasha snorted. “If you tell me everything you know and it helps Kagome I will restore your life. That don’t mean I won’t kill your sorry ass for what you did to her, but it does mean you can fight back when I do. So what will it be?”

“I accept your offer.” Sesshomaru said after a long moment. “What would you know?”

“Why is she tired all the time and how I can I fix it so she ain’t?” InuYasha asked.

“Father’s blood is too strong for a human woman to carry. She must be given a special blend of herbs to sustain her energy.” Sesshomaru replied. “I will send them with instructions to your human village as soon as I am able to acquire them.”

“Fine. Why does she only have an appetite for undercooked meat?” InuYasha questioned.

“To sustain the youkai half of the pup. With the tea she will still require meat but will regain the will to eat the diet of a human once again.” Sesshomaru explained. “She will also require an infusion of your youki since she has none and the child she carries cannot yet produce its own.”

“How do I go about that?” InuYasha asked.

“Were you full youkai you could simply will it to her, but you are not and so there is only one way to pass your youki to her.” Sesshomaru replied. “Surely by now she has required it, so you must know of the way I speak of.”

“I don’t know what the hell you’re talking about.” InuYasha said with a frustrated growl. “Just tell me damn it.”

“Has your mate not expressed any strange behavior, or desires?” Sesshomaru questioned. “Even a half breed such as yourself must know the voice of his youkai. Has it not spoken to you of her need?”

“Are really talking about what I think you are?” InuYasha asked.

“Must I spell it out.” Sesshomaru said with no little amount of disdain. “You must mate with her.”

“Now is not the time pervert.” Sango said smacking Miroku as he was about to open his mouth.

“Is there anything else?” InuYasha asked. Sesshomaru remained silent. “Fine. Know this you bastard, next time I see you one of us is going to end up dead and it ain’t going to be me.”

“We shall see little brother.” Sesshomaru said and in a flash of light he was gone.

As soon as he was gone Kagome relaxed. InuYasha took her face in his hands. “You’re going to be all right now.” He said gently. “Stay here and I’ll go get you something else to eat.”

Kagome nodded and sat down. She picked up the bag with the shards. InuYasha shrugged off his haori and draped it over her shoulders before taking off to hunt.

He returned with a meal for Kagome and saw her holding the fused shards in her hand. They had nearly a quarter of the jewel. “Not bad.” He offered.

“These are just the ones Sesshomaru brought.” She replied. “I haven’t added ours to it yet.”

Kagome opened the vial and dumped the numerous shards into her hand. She squeezed them together and when she opened her hand she found that they had about the same amount as they did when Kikyou stole the jewel and gave it to Naraku.

“Wow.” Shippou said. “That’s like half. We have way more than before.”

InuYasha was surprised by how much they had collected, even if half of it did come from Sesshomaru.
