Chapter 8 A Beast in My Bedroom
Inuyasha held her tightly as he leapt effortlessly from the well. He crouched down sniffing the area for a moment before ripping the door open. Thankfully the shrine was empty at this hour, but Kagome knew that it was only a small blessing.
She stared dumbly at the ground as it flew past her vision. He was heading for her house. Silently she thanked Kami, that her family was gone. She hated that they would come home to find her shredded body, but at least they would have a chance.
Kagome winced in pain as Inuyasha leapt up busting through the window to her room. Shards of glass fell all around her, cutting her skin and hanging in her hair. In the center of the room, Inuyasha dropped her with a thud to the floor. He stepped back, constantly clenching his fingers as if itching to tear her apart. Kagome looked into his face, which showed no signs of understanding. His glowing crimson eyes jumping continuously from one spot to another. Inuyasha’s lips were drawn in a ruthless snarl, exposing his long slender fangs. His breathing was deep and raspy and a low growl emanated from his chest. He was utterly horrifying.
Kagome tried to sit up slowly, never taking her eyes off of her deranged friend. “Inu... Inuyasha. Please...,” she called softly. He growled a warning to her, but made no move. Feeling vulnerable on the floor, Kagome decided to try to stand. She lifted her body on one knee, but before she got further, Inuyasha pounced, knocking her flat on her back.
Inuyasha crouched over her holding both of her hands high above her head. He moved his head lower sniffing at her hair. Kagome tried again to reach him. “Inuyasha, it’s me, Kagome... please Inuyasha.” He cut her off with another warning growl. She was pinned and helpless beneath her best friend, who was now a creature motivated only by instincts.
Kagome froze. She made no further sounds or movements, trying to calm her erratic heartbeat. If she could calm down, then maybe it would help Inuyasha to come back to her.
Inuyasha moved his nose down to the side of her face. He sniffed at the area just below her temple. She could feel his hot breath on her skin. She tried to shut it out, and think of something happy, but happiness wouldn’t come. Sesshomaru was dead, and she was now the doomed prisoner of her protector. How ironic.
A tear slid down her face, and Inuyasha immediately looked at it as if he were amazed. He lowered his head and captured it with his tongue, as if trying to understand what the salty drop was. Slowly he moved his face until his mouth hovered above her own. She could feel the slight brush of his lips as his molten breaths beat her on the face. He continued his scrutiny of his captive, until he came to her mark.
Kagome prayed for Kami’s protection, as he howled like a mad beast. Growling he leaned to it and licked it, sending involuntary chills down Kagome’s spine. His claws on his right hand tore through the thick fabric of her jeans as if they were only hose. Her flesh ripped and it took all of her effort not to open her mouth and scream out her pain. The fresh wounds reopened the hole made by Kagura’s pin, which still lay imbedded deeply in her thigh.
The fresh blood called to Inuyasha’s beast, and he lowered his head lapping at the ruby liquid flowing down to pool at the floor. Kagome winced as his rough tongue traced across the open wounds. Oh great... now he’s gonna kill me and eat me! Kagome fought to keep the panic down, which was far from easy in her current situation.
Suddenly Inuyasha jumped away from her to crouch just underneath her window. Kagome dared not move. The pain from the gashes in her thigh shot through her right side like bolts of lightning, but she willed herself to remain still. She tried to focus her mind on a way out of this, but instead it kept flashing to the moment Sesshomaru was cut down. The image of his proud majestic form, on his knee’s with the filth of Naraku pierced through his chest. Kagome wanted so badly to cry, but the fear of drawing her captor, made her fight to hold it in. Unbelievably darkness began creeping over her vision, and soon Kagome fell into a regenerative sleep.
This warm body lying in front of him was familiar, but he could smell the mark of another male on the bitch’s flesh. The blood from the bitch was warm and sweet, but coursed with the blood of her mate. The thought of mating with this female stood out in his mind, but now he was unsure of what to do. A part of him wanted to rip her apart and drink from the wounds, but something inside stopped the attack. The call to kill resounded in his entire being, but he would not leave this bitch and search for a victim, for fear she would escape from him. The mark on her neck was fresh, and smelled of a powerful youkai. One he was sure that he recognized and did not like. He crouched there, deadly still, watching the sleeping female, trying to decide whether to ignore the mark. The beast never moved as the night wore on.

Morning came and Miroku helped Sango to place Kohaku’s body on the back of Kirara. The woman insisted that he be buried alongside her father. Miroku made to go with her, but she gently pushed him back. “Houshi-sama, I must do this alone. I am most grateful for you offer, but you must stay here in case Inuyasha returns. He will need the Tetsaiga to transform back, and we can’t leave that in the hands of Shippo or Kaede. Please, Miroku.”
Miroku nodded and hugged the woman who held his heart. He watched as she disappeared into the horizon, then turned to go find Kaede. He suspected that she was tending to the wounds of Lord Sesshomaru. By herself, no less, as it seemed that no one in the village would get near him for fear he would awaken and rip them in two.
Miroku entered the hut, where the demon lay sleeping. Kaede was preparing to change the bandages. Miroku sighed thinking that this was simply asking for death, but he lay his staff against the wall, and moved to push the heavy demon up in order to unwrap the blood coated bandages and replace them with new. “Our friend here must way a ton,” Miroku said breathlessly as he strained to lift his upper body.
“Aye, that he does,” Kaede replied. Swiftly she unwrapped the old. She gasped when the last of the bandages fell away. The once huge hole had almost completely closed. She watched the monk’s reaction as he peered down to see what caused her to gasp. His eyebrows shot up in surprise. Kaede grabbed a bowl of water and a cloth, which she used to wipe the access blood clean. She applied more healing herbs and began the task of re-wrapping the wound.
Once the task was complete, Miroku helped her remove the supplies and followed her back to her hut. The two entered and Shippo glanced up from his drawing of Kagome. “Ohayoo, Kaede-babba,” the Kit said in a flat uninterested voice. The old miko could see clearly his suffering.
Kaede began preparing a meal for the noon. She gathered the fish brought to her by a generous villager and began shredding it form the bone. She diced various vegetables into a heavy pot, and threw in an assortment of herbs. Once the vegetables cooked to a tenderness she added the fish, allowing it to boil for a bit.
The three ate in silence. Their minds filled with concern for their missing friends. As the hours passed, it looked as if they would never see either of them again. Inuyasha’s state was one of wild delirium, and as much as they hated to admit it, the chances that Kagome would not be killed by his hand grew weaker as time passed slowly by.
A loud roar trumpeted through the village, startling the group to their feet. Miroku was the first out the door, racing to the source. Lord Sesshomaru had awakened.
Miroku approached the hut with caution. He called out calmly before getting anywhere near the door, “Lord Sesshomaru, it is I, the Houshi Miroku, may I enter?”
“Enter Houshi.” He snarled.
Nervously the monk looked back to Kaede who huddled Shippo close by. He took a deep breath and entered the hut. Sesshomaru sat half way up, propped on his arm. His demonic eyes were slightly glazed red, but he seemed to be coherent.
“Where is Kagome?” The demon demanded to know.
“My Lord, lay back, and let me explain,” Miroku began.
The taiyoukai snarled once more, not giving the monk time before asking again in a bestial voice, “Where is Kagome?”
Miroku had been dreading this moment, and was not disappointed. He knew very well Sesshomaru was going to ‘flip out’, as Kagome put it, when he awoke to find his mate missing. They would all be lucky to live through this. He swallowed hard and began the tale.
After briefing him on the final moments of the battle with Naraku, the monk said, “As Naraku’s body turned to ash, Inuyasha, in his transformed state, rushed at Kagome. He snatched her up and leapt into the well back to her time. We have not seen any sign of them since.”
“WHAT?!!!” Sesshomaru bellowed at the monk. His fury and helplessness shaking his body. The monk visibly shrunk at his inflamed aura, and Sesshomaru tried to get a grip on himself. It would do his mate no good for him to give in to his blood beast. He had to remain clear, in order to figure out what to do. After several deep calming breath’s, which also drew stabbing pains through his chest, Sesshomaru felt he could try to talk once more. “Houshi... you are saying that no one except Inuyasha and my mate may pass through this well?”
“Hai. As far as we know, those two are the only ones the well will accept,” Miroku replied.
“Where are the swords?” Sesshomaru further probed.
Miroku quickly explained the whereabouts’ covering the demon sword Tokijin, and it’s resting-place near the well.
Sesshomaru took in a few labored breaths and tried to sit completely up. It took every amount of training to hide his pain from the monk. “Inuyasha goes through this well often?”
“Hai, my lord, whenever he needs to retrieve Kagome from her home.” Miroku answered truthfully.
“Does he carry a part of the Jewel?” The demon asked.
Miroku considered this a moment. Maybe he was on to something. “No. Only Kagome carried the jewel.”
“Come Houshi. Follow me.” Sesshomaru growled as he willed his legs to stand.
Miroku started to argue that he should not move yet, but the fierce determination of the taiyoukai, deterred him from it. He decided that now would not be a good time to refuse the demon, and live.
Sesshomaru pushed through the door flap to find his woman’s kit standing with the old miko. He looked back to the monk, “Grab my sash and the swords monk.” Quickly Miroku grabbed the Tetsaiga and Tensaiga along with the stained, but clean, blue and yellow sash. Now old woman, tie the sash around my waist, and place the swords by my side.”
Kaede was reluctant to get so close to a fully awakened Lord Sesshomaru, but having not much choice, she quickly obeyed. Miroku slipped the two swords into the sash, with the Tetsaiga’s hilt on his right.
Sesshomaru began the walk to the well, with the human’s and kit following. “Where is the exterminator and her neko-youkai?”
Miroku replied, “Sango has gone to bury her brother’s remains beside those of her kin.” He received no reply, and really didn’t expect any. He could tell it was with great effort for Sesshomaru to stay on his feet, much less speak. His un-worldly healing abilities proved that though this being took on a humanoid appearance, that he was far from human.
It took some time but they came to the clearing. The only signs remaining of the battle were the smell of old blood and patches of upturned Earth. Any demon bodies left had been destroyed and a tearful Ginta and Hakaku came to retrieve the wolf princes remains.
Sesshomaru slowly made his way to Tokijin. He stifled a groan, as he knelt down to retrieve the sword. He slipped it into the sheath, and headed to the well.
Miroku stood with Shippo and Kaede as they watched the injured taiyoukai head to the wells edge. It was obvious that he was wracked with pain, but he regally held his head high and pressed his unwilling body forward. Once at the well, he glanced at the trio, before climbing over the edge.
“Houshi, pray to whatever god you hold dear, that this works,” Sesshomaru said as he pushed off of the edge.
She stared dumbly at the ground as it flew past her vision. He was heading for her house. Silently she thanked Kami, that her family was gone. She hated that they would come home to find her shredded body, but at least they would have a chance.
