Author’s note: Ok guys, this is where things are going to start to severely deviate from a traditional Sess/Kag pairing. I’m going out on a limb here, but the way that I have things planned out, it should end up really well. So if you don’t enjoy the twists that I’m making, just bear with it till I get a few more chapters down. Then if you still want to, flame away. Also from this point forward, most of the conversations are going to take place in English. The only conversations that will take place in Japanese will be between Sesshoumaru and characters that are not essential to the story. As always, lots of love to my reviewers, you guys are the best!

Disclaimer: I do not own Inuyasha, but all non Inuyasha related characters in this story are mine amine alone, Meaning do not use them without my permission.

Sesshoumaru found himself staring into a pair of the greenest eyes he had ever seen a human. Usually only cats and neko-youkai had eyes that color. He was sure that under normal circumstances they would have sparkled like emeralds, but at this moment they were darkened with worry. She was not Japanese. Not with those wide green eyes and high western cheekbones. He sniffed again. It was her scent. But why was this strange girl standing in front of him? She brought a slender hand to her mouth and started to speak.

“Oh my god, I am so sorry!” she cried out in English. Her voice had one of those distinctive American accents, but he knew this voice. It was Kagome’s voice. Older and in another language, but he would have known that voice anywhere. It had haunted his dreams for centuries. He stared at her in confusion, his mind unable to reconcile this sight with what his nose and ears were telling him. The girl looked around in panic. Her eyes moved over to a small group of females that were hurriedly gathering up his papers for him.

“Sakura come here! I need you to translate for me; you know I don’t speak a word of Japanese! Oh shit, why am I so clumsy?” A small Japanese girl thrust a handful of papers into another’s girl hand before running over. He held his hand up before they could rush into a panicked speech together.

“It’s fine,” he replied in English. “I speak your language quite well. I was just a bit dazed from the fall.” No you weren’t, said a voice in the back of his head. You were dazed because you just got hit with another aspect of dual reality. Shut up, he told himself. This American girl can’t be her. Not a chance.

The girl, no he corrected himself, she was a woman. She was quite a bit older than Kagome had been, lending even more confusion to his all ready strained mind. The woman’s face was turning bright red and could smell her embarrassment quite strongly. With interest, he noticed that her cheeks were attempting to match what he could see of her hair. It was pulled back from her face, only revealing the roots, but what he could see was a glorious bright red.

“I’m so sorry,” she repeated. “I was so busy staring at the temple that I wasn’t even looking where I was going. Are you all right?” She knelt down next to him, her eyes wide with concern. Her scent was so near him. He felt as though he could drown in it and die happily.

He blinked and brought himself back to reality. He was lying on the ground with his briefcase wide open. Aware of how undignified he must look at the moment, he pulled himself into a sitting position.

“I am fine. As I said, I was a bit dazed, but I’ll be fine.” The girl nodded and held out her hand.

“I feel so horrible. Will you at least let me help you stand up?” He nodded and took her hand, feeling how delicate her skin was. Oh Kami, what was happening? She helped him ts fes feet as her three other girls ran over holding his paperwork.

“Here, we got it all, but I’m afraid it’s going to be completely out of order,” said a studious looking young woman, also speaking in English. He looked at the group of women surrounding him. With the exception of the young Japanese girl, they seemed to all be western women. What was going on here? He felt as though the whole world had been pulled out from under him. Pull yourself together, he told himself. The last thing that you need is to look even more foolish in front of these Americans. He turned to the woman holding his papers and bowed slightly.

“Thank you for your help. I’m sure that the papers will be easily sorted.” He took the handle full of papers from her hands and placed them back in his briefcase. That’s right just act normal he told himself. He gave the women a smile.

“I’ll just give them to my secretary and have her sort them all out.” He smiled at them once again and turned the red headed woman. “And please do not worry. I was not hurt and your apology is accepted.”

He turned to go, trying not to cut lose and run. His mind was racing with a thousand different thoughts. Who was she? Was she truly Kagome? But how was this could red headed klutz be Kagome? But….Kagome was often clumsy. She had said herself that it had been her own clumsiness with the bow that had shattered the Shikon No Tama. And how many times had he seen her try to dodge away from something and fall down instead? It could be…..

“Wait,” call voi voice. He turned the see the red head running towards him. She was holding his cell phone. “Is this yours?”

“Yes it is. Thank you.” He reached out and took his phone. He hadn’t even realized that it had fallen out of his pocket. He transferred his phone to his other hand and held hers for a brief moment, enjoying the contact. She smiled at him and then turned to walk away. He noticed that her bright red hair was woven into a thick braid that ended just above her buttocks. And a very nicely shaped pair of buttocks they were. With an inaudible groan he turned away. He opened his cell phone and dialed a number.

“This is Takahashi,” he said in Japanese. “I won’t be coming back to the office today. I have some things to take care of.” He looked around and carefully vanished into an alleyway. After double-checking that he was alone, he altered his illusion spell. Now anyone that looked at him would see and young Japanese man with short dark hair and gold eyes. He pulled out a pair of sunglasses and walked back over to the temple. He was determined to find out who this girl was. He laughed at himself. The last person he had ever spied on had been Kagome. Now he was spying on someone that seemed to have some sort of a connection with her. Life really is just a giant circle, he thought.

He walked up the stairs to the temple, following her scent. He found her and her friends standing in front of the god tree. The red head was holding her head in her hands, still blushing furiously.

“Don’t worry about it, Kit Kat,” said the studious looking woman. Kit Kat? What kind of a name was that? It must be one of those silly nicknames that humans often used. He looked at the other woman for a moment. She had long brown hair that was pulled back into a ponytail and she seemed determined to comfort her friend. “We’ve known you since we were midgets for God’s sake. We’re used to helping you clean up your messes.”

“Yeah really,” said the woman named Sakura. “This one was so small, it’s not even worth teasing yoout out later.”

One of Sesshoumaru’s eyebrows rose. So it seemed they were all Americans. What were they doing here? None of them looked old enough to be businesswomen. Maybe a vacation?

“Come on Kat,” said a blonde woman. “This is nothing compared to the time that you spilled my mom’s paint everywhere and ruined her favorite dress.”

“Besides,” said the last woman, another brunette whose thick curls were cut chin length in a style that caused her hair to bounce around her face, “It’s not like you even know who that guy was, so what the hell is the big deal?” The red head named Kat pulled her hands away from her face. She sighed as she looked at the others.

“The big deal is this guys. The single most gorgeous guy I have seen in months and what do I do? I crash into him, almost knock him unconscious, and ruin his paperwork. Typically me, huh?” The group of women looked at each other for a moment.

“Completely typically you,” they chorused together and all burst into laughter, even Kat. Sesshoumaru listened to them, feeling stunned. So she had found him attractive? He hadn’t been able to tell. But then again, the scent of embarrassment coming from her would have been enough to cover up anything else. He watched her laugh, seeing how it light up her face. He had to admit, for a western woman she quite lovely. Her eyes were sparkling and the blush in her cheeks had faded into a delicate pink that highlighted her cheekbones.

“But seriously, Kat,” said Sakura. “If you weren’t the way you were we wouldn’t love you so much.”

“After all,” said the blonde with a wicked grin, “You give us so much to laugh at life would be boring without you around.”

“Thanks Chris, love you too,” said Kat, sarcastically. The two women stuck their tongues out at each other as if they were children, sending the whole group into another gale of laughter. When they stopped giggling, the studious brunette turned to Kat.

“So what’s the deal anyway, Kat? What were you staring at that you completely missed tall, not dark, and handsome? Did you run off into your day dreams?”

“Oooh, did you get a new book idea?” asked the blonde hopefully.

“No way, I’m telling. You guys are just gonna laugh at me,” she answered. Her friends immediately began their denial, and begged her to tell them. After a minute, Kat gave up.

“Ok, I’llI’ll tell you.” She pointed to the god tree. Sesshoumaru expected the women to start teasing her again, but instead they simply looked at it.

“What about it, honey,” asked the curly haired. She seemed about to speak again, but the studious brunette hushed her.

“Stacy, let her tell it on her own.” The woman pouted a little, but closed her mouth and waited.

Kat closed her eyes. She placed her hand on the tree and stood there for a minute. When she td ard around she was frowning and shaking her head.

“I don’t know,” she said softly. “There’s something special about this tree, but I don’t what it is. I saw it and I just….” She trailed off, at a loss for words. “I don’t know. I couldn’t take my eyes off of it. It felt like….” She laughed softly.

“Why is it I can write for hours on end, but I never know the words to use when it comes to myself,” she grumbled.

“Don’t worry about Kat. You’ll find the words when you need them, “ said the studious brunette. The two girls hugged briefly.

“Thanks Val,” she replied. “Come on let’s get out of here. This place is starting to feel uncomfortable.”

The group of women turned and walked away from the tree. As they headed down the stairs, Sesshoumaru cast one more spell on himself. The ability to make oneself invisible was impossible, but there was the ability to fade. Unless he did something to deliberately draw attention to himself, he would not be noticed by anyone. And he needed to follow this girl.

She had recognized the god tree. She didn’t know why she had recognized, but she had. His heart was pounding so fast it felt as though it would burst out of his chest. He had found her. He didn’t understand how or why it had happened this way but it was she. It had to be. And he would be damned if he would let her get away again.

Author’s note 2: If anyone found this chapter to drag a little I’m sorry, but I needed to get introductions out of the way. My next chapter is gonna basically be a fill in of who Kat and the other girls are and then after that, we can get back to the fun stuff.
