Silent Heart

Inuyasha woke during the night and looked at the sleeping girl next to him. He couldn’t help but feel amazed and proud that this girl was now his mate. She was curled up against him, and he held her for a while before falling asleep.

Kagome woke the next morning before Inuy. He. He looked so peaceful sleeping. He felt her stirring and woke up. She looked back at him and smiled. It was early June, and it was hot. Inuyasha went to get breakfast and he ate in silence with Kagome. HE looked at her. “Are you…are you hot?” She nodded. Despite it being early June, it was an extremely hot day. “Then let’s go swimming. Would you like that?” Kagome signed “Yes.” So Inuyasha and Kagome went to the river for a small swim.
n thn they got there, they found wat water a little cold, but just fine in comparison to the heat. Inuyasha watched as Kagome went into the river. He wasn’t much of a fan of swimming, but he was content to sit and watch for a while. Kagome, however, wasn’t. She went behind Inuyasha and shoved him in. “OI!” he pushed her in. This continued for hours, until Kagome was exhausted.

It was July now, and Kagome and Inuyasha went out to see the stars. Kagome was fascinated, happy to just the there and gaze at the stars. Inuyasha preferred to watch her. How could something so insignificant….like stars….fascinate her so much? He really wondered. He had been planning for a while. He was going to make a house, more fitting for a human like Kagome, and he was going to move there with her. It was, however, a surprise to her. He wrapped his arm around her, and she fell asleep in his arms watching the stars.

The day had come. Inuyasha was going to start building today. HE went over to Kagome. “What wrong?” she signed. “Nothing, Kagome. I’ll have to leave you alone today with Kaede.” He responded. “Why? You go where?” she signed. “I have some business with Miroku. Will you be okay?” She looked sad but signed “Yes, I fine.”

Kaede showed up. “You will be all right with her, baa-baa?” Inuyasha asked. “Hai, we’ll be fine, but shouldn’t you have asked Sango? She’s more Kagome’s age.” Kaede responded. “Well, true, but Sango doesn’t understand sign language and she won’t be able to help Kagome if she needs it, you can.” Kaede nodded. “Well, you’re right.”

Kaede entered the cave and saw Kagome. She saw the look of sadness or far face. “What’s wrong, Kagome?” she asked kindly. Kagome signed “Inuyasha leave me..why?” “Oh, Kagome..” Kaede smiled. “He’ll be back, I promise…if that’s what you’re worried about.” Kagome gave a worried look and sat silently looking out the cave door. “Kagome, listen, don’t be so sad…what do you want to do? Are you hungry?” Kagome looked at her. “Not hungry. I not feel well.” She signed. Kaede looked worried. “Huh? Kagome, are you okay?” Kagome looked up at her. “Kaede….I…..” she didn’t look like she could get the words out……so she signed “Baby.”

“You’re pregnant?!” Kaede asked, happily. “Yes.” Kagome signed. “Why didn’t you tell Inuyasha?” Kaede asked. “Inuyasha not notice. Inuyasha too busy.” A tear fell down her cheek. “Oh, Kagome……” Kaede held Kagome close while she cried.

Kaede had made a small meal for Kagome. Kagome looked at it and signed “No no…before, me eat, me throw up. Not want eat.” “Kagome, please, you have to eat…” she pleaded. Kagome signed “Okay.” Reluctantly. Kaede ate with Kagome, sitting and talking to her. Kagome was not herself, and Kaede wanted to go and grab Inuyasha then and there. Kagome fell asleep afterwards, having successfully kept her food in. Kaede thought to Inuyasha *Oh, Inuyasha….I wish you knew*

It was growing later and Kagome was outside with Kaede after her nap. Kagome was looking better than when she first saw her, but her spirits were not. If only she could help. Kaede was little help. Sango arrived “Hey, thought I’d see Kagome-chan for a while.” Sango said cheerfully. “Maybe you can help, I can’t reach her.” Kaede said. “What’s wrong with her?” Sango asked, concerned. “Well…I’ll interpret, let her tell you.”

“Oh, gods…..” Sango said, hugging a now sobbing Kagome. “Kagome, you have to talk to Inuyasha. He’ll be happy when he hears about the baby, trust me.” Kagome looked doubtful. “Trust me, Kagome. He can be a jerk, and I’ll bop him one of he breaks your heart. Okay?” Kagome gave Sango a weak smile. “Thank you.” She signed. “You’re welcome, Kagome-chan. I’ll see you later, I have to get back to my village before supper.” Kagome nodded and watched Sango go.

Inuyasha arrived with things to cook for supper. “Oi, thanks Kaede. I owe you.” Kaede gave him a look. “What? What the hell did I do?” he asked. “You need to talk to Kagome. All is not well.” With that, he left. He put the food on the fire to cook and went to find Kagome. She was sitting by the makeshift bed, and she was pale enough to worry Inuyasha and her eyes looked like she had been sobbing all day.

“Kagome? What’s wrong?” Inuyasha asked. Kagome looked into his eyes and started sobbing again. “Damn it all…” Inuyasha picked her up and sat on the makeshift bed, rocking her gently until she calmed. “What’s wrong, Kagome?” he asked again. She touched her belly and signed “Baby.” New tears formed in her eyes. It hit Inuyasha like a ton of bricks. He sensed it in her smell….she was right, she was indeed pregnant. How had he been so neglectful to not notice that his mate was bearing his pup??? Demons always watched their mates for if they become pregnant. How had he neglected the task of caring for his mate? “I’m sorry…..” he said quietly, “I swear I didn’t know.” She sniffed, and signed “You happy? You want baby?” “Yes, Kagome, I want this baby.” He said. They shared dinner together and Kagome fell asleep with Inuyasha fussing over her.

Days passed, and Inuyasha would go work on the house. He left Kagome with Kaede, and Sango would stop by, and started learning how to sign to communicate with Kagome. One day, Kagome was sitting outside while Kaede went to get water from the river. Kagome had gotten morning sickness. Kagome suddenly felt a demon presence….it was Sesshomaru. “I told you I’d be back.”

When Kaede came back, Kagome was gone without a trace.
