CHAPTER 77: EPILOGUE
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
6 months later….
Kagome’s back hurt and her feet were killing as she waddled down the long hallway. The next time she saw that husband of hers, she was going to tell him. He owed her big time. As Kagome drew closer to the end of the hallway she kept having the scene of Sango in the hospital giving birth to her and Miroku’s daughter, Umi-kiri (Sea mist), playing in her thoughts.
*Flash Back*
There, in the mist of the chaos of hospital’s delivery room Kagome, Sesshoumaru, and Inuyasha were there watching the birth of their friends’ first born. One reason the trio was in the room was to give Miroku and Sango moral support, and the other most important reason was for Miroku’s well being and protection.
“Miroku, you jerk! You will never touch me again you know that!” Sango gritted between clenched teeth as she was lying on the hospital bed with her legs bent and propped up while Doctor Alessa was delivering the baby.
“Push Sango.” Doctor Alessa said interrupting the couples' ranting.
Miroku started to take a step toward his wife wanting to console her. He almost made it to her side with words of love and adoration spilling from his lips for Sango. “Sango sweets I…”
However, Inuyasha had grabbed by Miroku’s shirt collar and yanked him back just as Sango sent a fist went flying at Miroku’s head.
*End of Flash Back*
‘Ah yes, his personal body protection,’ Kagome laughed lightly.
The vision of Sango trying to deck Miroku while she was in labor was quiet amusing to everyone, but no one dare say a thing, much less laugh at the situation, or less! Sango was shrieking like a shrew that Miroku would never ever touch her again, or he would became unattached with *cough- cough* the male reproductive organ. Sango was in labor for twenty-four hours and was have a hard time, but you would have thought it was Miroku that was having the baby. ‘Poor guy,’ Kagome grinned. Miroku was a health professor at the university, and one would have thought with all the education that Miroku had he would have been well prepared for the delivery. But, apparently real life versus the textbook version didn’t really help him, for as the baby was crowning, Miroku fainted in a dead heap on the hospital floor.
Kagome was brought out of her reverie as she saw the light coming from Rin’s room. Upon entering, Kagome saw her daughter was waiting rather eagerly for her mother. Rin was sitting in the middle of her bed wearing her cute little ducky pajamas with the blankets pulled up to her lap. There, next to Rin was a book of story tales that Sesshoumaru had bought her, so they could read to her at night before bed. Kagome’s grin grew bigger at this.
“Ready my sweet cherub?”
“Yes, mommy. Rin wants mommy to read her and the babies a story before bed.”
Kagome walked over to her daughter’s bed and settled herself down on the soft mattress getting comfortable. The moment she did, Rin scooted herself right next to Kagome and threw one chubby arm over her large tummy. Next, Rin brought her head down against Kagome’s side and whispered to her side.
“Shhhh, babies, mommy is going to read us a story.” Then Rin lightly gave Kagome’s expanding stomach a gently kiss before settling back down.
Kagome reached for the book and opened it up. Her heart was filled with an unexplainable joy that it made her want to cry, however; she cleared her throat and began to read. “Once upon a time….
Sesshoumaru and Inuyasha were the last to leave their corporate office late tonight. They were both finishing up the paper work on their father’s will. All the legalities that went into could be asinine. What once seemed to be a curse, in both brothers’ eyes, was now a blessing in disguise. After the fall of Naraku, the brothers seemed to want to work through their rocky relationship. It wasn’t easy, and for the most part they would fight, but neither one of them gave up. Kagome wouldn’t let them. Oh, there would have been hell to pay if they did.
As it turns out, Sesshoumaru signed over the entire company their father left him to Inuyasha. Sesshoumaru had a long talk with Kagome about this, a heart to heart you could say, about how the will drove his need to be on top. And with that need, it nearly tore everything he loved out of his life forever. Sesshoumaru didn’t give a damn about being on top anymore. All he wanted was his family, and that was all he needed.
Inuyasha had a hard time coming to terms with Sesshoumaru and Kagome’s marriage but was slowly coming around. Then a month after the bastard, Naraku, was desecrated Kagome found out she was pregnant. That almost threw Inuyasha for another loop, but it was something Kagome had said to him that fateful day. It echoed loud and clear in his thoughts. ‘You know Inuyasha, Sesshoumaru had once put a question to me that made me think. He asked me at what price was I willing to go to save myself, my friends, and the hanyou that I so desperately love? I told him Inuyasha that I would go all the way. I still love you, but not like I love Sesshoumaru. I would still do anything in my power for Inuyasha.’ Needless to say Inuyasha had a lot to think about the last past six months, and then he realized how selfish is was of him to punish his relationship with Kagome and his brother after all they had tried to do. It was then that he could truly start to rebuild his life.
“Inuyasha,” Sesshoumaru began as he dug out his car keys. “Kagome wanted to know if you and Doctor Alessa would like to come over for a family barbeque this weekend.”
Inuyasha just nodded before he got into his car and drove off. Sesshoumaru watched Inuyasha go before he got into his own car and took off. He was going home, to his family.
“And they lived happily ever after. The end.” Kagome’s voice softened as she looked down and saw that Rin had fallen asleep. She leaned over and kissed Rin’s forehead has she gently moved her daughter’s arm from around her tummy. Kagome shifted off the bed and began to stand up and stretch. Her back and feet were still a little achy, but life couldn’t be better. Kagome waddled out of Rin’s room and turned and watched her daughter sleep.
Kagome didn’t hear Sesshoumaru come up behind her. It wasn’t until his arms locked around her rounded size middle that she knew he was there.
Sesshoumaru nuzzled his wife neck and placed his hand on her swollen abdomen that was showing proof of the lives growing inside her. “How was your day Kagome?”
Kagome shuddered when Sesshoumaru warm breath hit her ear. She leaned back against his chest before answering. “Busy. Let’s see. First, I took Rin to school, second, I worked on the twin’s room, and third then….” Kagome lost her train of thought when Sesshoumaru started sucking the mating mark on her collarbone.
Sesshoumaru smirked when Kagome stopped talking. “What was that wife, I didn’t hear you?”
Kagome turned in his arms when she heard Sesshoumaru’s arrogant male tone. She settled her hand on his chest before answering. “You were distracting me.”
Sesshoumaru could feel his wife’s stomach pressing against him, but he held her close. Sesshoumaru used one hand to turn off Rin’s bedroom light while the other went to the small of Kagome’s back and massaged it.
“That feels so go.” Kagome whispered as she arched her back as much as she could into her husband’s administration.
“You look so good.” Sesshoumaru said in a low husky tone. He flashed her a seductive smile before he sweeping Kagome off her feet and carried her down the hall. “As for me being a distraction…” Sesshoumaru chuckled. “I plan on being a very demanding distraction.”
Kagome blushed at Sesshoumaru’s words as he carried her into their bedroom. “How could I look good to you when I feel like a beached whale sometimes?” She asked a little astonished at her husbands desire for her in her fourth month of pregnancy.
“How could I not want you?” He reasoned with her as he ushered them into their bedroom and shut the door behind. “You are the epitome of beauty Kagome. You are everything I desire. You hold my heart, my soul in your hand.” Sesshoumaru’s tone became serious as he continued his praise. “You radiate the gracefulness of motherhood. I wouldn’t say that if I didn’t mean that Kagome.”
Kagome was settled on her feet next to their bed. Sesshoumaru’s words had moved her so that it was like she couldn’t breathe, let only think of anything to say. Kagome did the only thing she could think of. She sealed his declaration with a kiss.
Sesshoumaru broke the kiss, and he pressed his forehead against Kagome’s. His chest was heaving; he could feel his arousal becoming almost unbearable. “Kagome, I want you.”
“And I want you… at any price.”
