SUMMARY:Kagome felt herself fly forward and collide with something warm and solid. It took Kagome a while to regain her bearings, but when she felt strong arms go around her waist holding her steady Kagome knew whose arms she was in. However, Kagome didn’t stay there that long before Sesshoumaru swung her behind him making her fall carelessly to the ground. “You’d think you be more happy to see me.” Kagome grumbled. “But no! CHAPTER 74: COUNT DOWN
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kikyou didn’t know how she was able to make it into the car without being torn to ribbons, as she gunned it down the road driving like a nascar driver on the speedway. Kikyou was desperately trying to get into the lead, but it didn’t matter. Nothing did now. Kikyou’s pleading cries to Inuyasha went unheeded to his deafened ears. She wasn’t sure if Inuyasha refused to listen or if he was now unreachable, so with that, Kikyou raced back to the one place she thought would give her sanctuary. Sad thing was that Kikyou didn’t know what lay in wait for her back at Naraku’s corporate office was a ticking time bomb waiting to go off.
4:29, 4:28, 4:27….
Kikyou’s black brown eyes nervously glanced back at the rearview mirror in panicked worry that somehow Inuyasha was close behind. In Kikyou’s thoughtless moments of alarm for her own safety, she didn’t realize that the light ahead had turned red. The BMW was still charging straight ahead at high speeds.
Her once expensive BMW was all but reduced to a pile of rubble on four wheels, by none other than Inuyasha’s fists. Kikyou physically flinched at the thought of how close he came to hitting her, but what she saw when she turned averted her eyes back to the road made her shriek. Two semi-truck were now crossing in the lane ahead and all Kikyou could do was press harder on the accelerator.
“OH KAMI!” she screamed. Kikyou drew nearer and nearer to the intersection. Her small hand was violently slamming down on the horn.
The blaring of a car horn caused some driver on the cross traffic intersection to slow down almost to a halt. Fate must not have wanted Kikyou to die this way because she made it through the crowded intersection without a scratch.
Just behind Kikyou, looking on with blood red eyes and a warring soul bent on revenge the blood lust kind, the silvery hair figure jumped from roof top to roof top racing the fleeing woman in a beat up BMW. Inuyasha almost howled defeat when Kikyou made it through the intersection unharmed. But, an evil grin played across Inuyasha’s face when he thought her death was so close. ‘Oh, well! Guess I’ll have to kill her, the old fashion way.’ What is the old fashion way you ask? Ripping, shredding, and tearing bare handed of course.
Kikyou could see Naraku’s company just ahead, she sighed heavily, due to the pent up anticipation of the unknown danger that behind her. Her eyes continued to twitch back and forth looking for any sign of Inuyasha. There was nothing. No silver blur pacing behind the car. No inhuman howling rang out above all other sounds. Kikyou couldn’t see him or hear him at all, but a foreboding feeling in the back of her mind told her otherwise. ‘He’s still here.’ Like many times before, Kikyou’s car came to the entrance of the parking garage, but this time it wasn’t the same normal, ‘fuck call.’ It was the urgency to get to a safe place and retreat.
One moment there, the next she was no longer in sight. Inuyasha ran to the last place he’d seen that whoring filthy bitch go. And even in his soulless state Inuyasha’s mind was sharper then ever. He could still smell her even though Kikyou was nowhere in sight. She wreck of fear, her scent told on her. Inuyasha took a menacing step toward the invisible parking garage only to have it repel him backwards. A low growl erupted from his lips. Inuyasha charged at the unseen barrier with his claws ready to strike.
*CRACK*
The sound of glass breaking stopped his charge. Hands still raised to maim, Inuyasha turned his head slightly to see where the noise had come from. On the seventh floor of the building, one large panel of glass shattered out to the ground below. Then the sound of gun fire and screams of pain were let out of the building, as if it had been holding it in too long. As if in a trance, Inuyasha raced to the front of the building. He head tilted back to look up at the destruction before him. It mesmerized him, for it held the promise of blood and pain. Inuyasha bent his muscular legs at the knees to ready himself for the jump.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sesshoumaru kicked in the tenth floor emergency exit door sending it to the ground with a loud vociferous crash. His eyes didn’t mask the emotions that he used to hide so well. Sesshoumaru snarled at the sight before him. Naraku was leaning over a struggling Kagome, who was fighting for her freedom.
“NARAKU!”
Glimmering ruby eyes lifted to look at the demon that had just barged into the hallway. Naraku gave a slight shrug toward the pissed dog demon before him. “Awe, Sesshoumaru.” Came the silky voice. “We were just talking about you, weren’t we Kagome?”
Kagome heart was pounding wildly within her chest as she continued to fight Naraku, but then at the mere mention of her husbands name the entire world stopped. ‘No, this has to be a trick.’ Kagome told herself. ‘Naraku is lying.’ She tried to get up and look in the direction Naraku was glancing but couldn’t. Naraku had one arm press painfully across her chest holding her immobile and restricting her ability to breath. It was like the air was being cut off from her lung because she couldn’t take a deep enough breathe to satisfy her need for air. Also, on top of that, Naraku was still draped over her like a curtain obstructing her view. She heard the loud crashing noise not to far from her, but she refused to believe it was Sesshoumaru until she saw him with her own eyes. Another fresh batch of tears were on the brink of spilling over when Kagome heard him.
“GET OFF HER.” Sesshoumaru commanded, as he took long strides forward.
‘Sesshoumaru,’ her heart and mind whispered together.
“Of course.” Naraku replied. He got off Kagome, but didn’t let her go. As he was standing up from his position on the floor, Naraku used his other hand and brought in behind Kagome’s neck. So, as he stood, he took her with him as a shield. Naraku tighten his hold around the back of Kagome’s neck. He laughed at her renewed struggled. “What Kagome, no words of love for your husband?”
Kagome’s eyes locked onto Sesshoumaru’s, she didn’t need to say a thing. All was expressed in her eyes, and even if Kagome wanted to speak the fingers pressing into her voice box cut off any sound. Her hands went up defensively to her neck as she felt Naraku’s grip squeeze harder. Kagome tried to pry his hand off her neck but wasn’t having any luck.
Sesshoumaru watched the coward use his wife’s body as a shield. His more primal urges were reverting again, and the look in Kagome’s eyes was tearing him up inside. To have Kagome this close, but still out of his reach was torture on his heart. Sesshoumaru could still feel the lingering electric charge of power coming from Kagome. Granted it wasn’t as powerful as before but it was still there.
“What a bitter sweet reunion, no?” Naraku was enjoying this to much.
“Let her go you coward, or do you have tendencies to prey on the weaker sex.” Sesshoumaru still moved forward with his sword drawn.
“I wouldn’t come any closer Sesshoumaru. It could prove fatal for our Kagome.” Just then Naraku’s pointed finger nails grew longer, almost like sharp knives biting into tender flesh. “No, I wouldn’t say tendencies for weak ones.” He then moved his head to nuzzle the top of Kagome’s head. “Just the beautiful ones, those that happen to be in your family line.”
Kagome knew she had to think fast. Sesshoumaru wasn’t going to let this battle be drawn into a stale mate, and he would only stay still for a few seconds longer. ‘If only I could summon enough power to make myself disappear from his hold.’
“What’s the matter Sesshoumaru? Does the thought of seeing another person you love die bother you?” Naraku laughed after that question was given to the strong dog demon. “You should be used to it by now.”
Sesshoumaru growled and took other step forward, but upon doing so smelled the rancid scent of spider venom now dripping from Naraku’s nails.
Kagome desperately focused her energy on building up her power. It was making her weak, but she knew that she had to do something. Kagome didn’t want to die and she didn’t want Sesshoumaru to get hurt. ‘Oh, Kami!’ that thought made Kagome want to vomit.
‘Could you live without him?’ a voice asked within her mind.
‘No!’ she screamed at it. ‘I love him. I would rather die than see him hurt or killed.’
‘What of Rin?’ the voice continued. ‘What would happen if Sesshoumaru and you were no longer able to care for her? Rin would more likely end up in an orphanage, again.’
Kagome could feel her insides twist. ‘No, that won’t happen! I won’t let it happen.’ Her temper started to flare, and with it her power.
Neither of the men noticed it until Naraku’s scream filled the air.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kikyou through the car in park and ran for the private elevator. A chill went down her spine as she noticed how dead quite it was. Kikyou forced that thought aside as she came to the elevator. Her hand pounded on the button but noticed after a few minutes that there wasn’t the normal grind of gears indicating the elevator was moving. Kikyou mental cursed the elevator to hell, but didn’t linger to long down in the parking garage. She needed to get to Naraku fast. Kikyou remember the emergency stairwell around the corner of the parking garage and took off for it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Meanwhile, Inuyasha had just touched down on the rim of the now missing window. His hunched over form ready for anything, but nothing met him. Nothing alive, anyways. Blood was splashed on the walls and it scent was like an intoxicating drug lulling Inuyasha deeper into the building. He heard more beautiful and erotic painful screams from above and below him. Inuyasha jumped from his perch and followed the siren like noise. Then from the end of the hallway he could hear rushed footsteps. Inuyasha was giddied with joy and the thought of something live coming his way, but that joy was over ruled when his demonic sense picked up on the flow of strong power being released. Then the smell of charred burnt flesh filtered through the confinement of the walls, but it wasn’t just any scent. It was Naraku’s.
The emergency door came off its hinges when Inuyasha realized the bastard was here. He far out weighed the pressing urgency to seek out Kikyou, but there were others here also.
‘Ka- go- me.’ The thought relaxed him from the briefest of seconds before another name was placed to the scent. ‘Sesshomaru,’ Inuyasha snarled violently at that name. He took off up the stair in search of the fun that had started without him.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kagome literally was dissolving Naraku’s hand, and if she could she would purify the rest of him. The white flames where licking at his flesh searing it to the bone, and Naraku could think off in his agonizing pain was to get those wretched hands off him. Naraku let go of Kagome swiftly and used his other hand to shove Kagome violently away. The hole in Naraku’s arm was slowly dripping out black thick miasma into the enclosed hallway.
Kagome felt herself fly forward and collide with something warm and solid. It took Kagome a while to regain her bearings, but when she felt strong arms go around her waist holding her steady Kagome knew whose arms she was in. However, Kagome didn’t stay there that long before Sesshoumaru swung her behind him making her fall carelessly to the ground. “You’d think you be more happy to see me.” Kagome grumbled. “But no! You go and drop me like a sack of potatoes!”
Sesshoumaru didn’t respond to her but kept his eyes trained on the evil ahead of him. His redden eyes watched as Naraku’s face changed from pain to something of amusement. Just then Sesshoumaru sensed another demon headed right at them, and fast. He could sense this demon was an inuyoukai like himself and powerful. ‘Impossible,’ Sesshoumaru thought. ‘There is no other full blood inuyoukai except himself. Unless…’
The wall next to Kagome exploded into chucks of debris. She let out a startled shriek as she jumped up off the floor to face whatever was behind her. As the dust settled enough for Kagome to see her eyes fell upon a form haunch on all four with long silver hair which was shielding her view of the persons face.
There was a slight guttural chuckle coming from the form as strange wind swung his hair out of his face. He started standing up from his sitting position while flexing and cracking his fingers.
It revealed that face Kagome knew anywhere, but it was somehow different. Now there were marking across his cheeks and heated blood shot eyes.
“Inuyasha.” Her voice was just above a whisper. Kagome started to walk toward him when she felt a hand latch onto her shoulder tightly.
“Don’t.” Sesshoumaru ordered and pulled her back. “He’s full demon know Kagome. Inuyasha isn’t rationale right now and he reverted to his primal self. Inuyasha would probably kill you and not give it a second thought.”
Kagome turned and looked at Sesshoumaru. Confusion filled her eyes, as well as that trapped hopeless feeling. She only nodded.
Naraku laughed even louder gaining everyone’s attention. “I see that worthless bitch didn’t kill you like I ordered.”
Inuyasha only growled.
“Well, well what do I have here? The two infamous sons of the great, but late InuTaisho.” Naraku snarled. “I shouldn’t let this golden opportunity pass me by. It’s not everyday that the Masarau brothers come pay me a visit. Come let me show you how I welcome my guests.” He finished that last statement with a hiss as the miasma that was dripping off his arm enveloped him in a torrential whirl wind.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As Kikyou climbed the first flight of step she heard the ruckus above her that made her have second thoughts about finding Naraku. Kikyou stood there indecisive. ‘What the hell is all that noise?’
*Screams of pain and bullet fire*
‘Shit!’ Kikyou yelled at herself. “Sorry Naraku, you are on your own. I have problems of my own.” She turned around to run back down the stairs when she came face to face with the demon from earlier.
“Your right.” Came a hissing low voice. “I’m your problem.”
Fear flashed in her eyes quickly. “No.” Kikyou took a step back. “You’re supposed to be died. I killed you.”
“Sorry bitch.” The battered figured took a step forward closing in one his main target. “It’s going to take more then just a car to kill me.”
2:27, 2:26, 2:25…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Inuyasha charged blindly at the funnel of miasma whirling around them. His hands where going in for the kill but before he could reach the bastard a long black spidery leg erupted from the fog knocking Inuyasha hard into the ground.
*THUNK!*
“INUYASHA!” Kagome screamed in fright and once again tried to go to him, but was pulled back harshly against the wall just as a large glob brushed past her. The glob appeared to be a translucent webbing of sorts and it was aimed right the hanyou, however; it Sesshoumaru didn’t throw her back into the wall Kagome would have been right in the line of fire. Inuyasha rolled before the web entangled him, but as the glob landed on the floor the carpet started to dissolve right before everyone’s eyes.
Laughter once again emitted in the hallway but soon fade into a sound like nails on a chalk board. The miasma cleared just enough to show the real demonic form of Naraku. There at the far end of the hallway was a huge black arachnid.
Kagome’s eyes widened for a moment as she peered over Sesshoumaru’s large frame. She fought the feeling to yell, ‘squish it!’ as she stared at Naraku’s true form. Kagome thought that he was something that stepped out of the pits of hell. She shuddered in revulsion while covering her ears. ‘I hate spiders. I hate spiders. I HATE spiders!’ Kagome chanted to herself.
Sesshoumaru looked at his mate and noticed that she was shaking, but there was no scent of fear, only dislike. “Kagome leave.” Sesshoumaru ordered with frost in his voice as he pulled one of her hands away from her ears.
Shock knocked her for a loop, but then Kagome hunkered down before responding. His tone demanded she not argue, but when had she ever listened to him. Especially, if it was a matter of life or death. “NO! I am not leaving you and that’s final.” Kagome retort had determination stilled into it.
Inuyasha howled at the noise that was grating on his supersensitive ears. He had to stop that fucking noise, and now. Inuyasha leapt up from the ground and started to charge blindly again at Naraku. As he was closing in on the distance Inuyasha jumped into the air taking Naraku by surprise. Inuyasha chuckled with delight because now Naraku was open for an attack. He brought one claw in for the kill.
Naraku knew he was open from the back so he chanted his disappearing spell before the lethal blow could be delivered.
Sesshoumaru remained silent at Kagome’s emphatic insistences. He watched his fool of a brother charge once again into battle with the bastard spider demon. Sesshoumaru for a moment was caught off guard. He really thought Inuyasha was going to kill him, and in one strike. But then again Sesshoumaru should have realized that the worthless hanyou would have fumbled this death blow to their greatest enemy. Sesshoumaru’s eyes narrowed when he saw Naraku disappeared from view, however; his scent still was strong as ever and was growing more potent. ‘What is this?’ Sesshoumaru thought.
Kagome all of a sudden got this twinge of fear snake down her spine. Somehow she knew Naraku’s aura shifted and moved behind her, but Kagome couldn’t see him yet. Before Kagome could react she found herself hauled up against her husband’s arms as he jumped a few yards down the hallway, away from Naraku, and farther away from the exit.
Sesshoumaru cursed silently at the strategic move Naraku made. He forced this Sesshoumaru to make is move, one made to save Kagome. Sesshoumaru deposited Kagome down on the floor rather ungracefully and took off in the blink of an eye.
“What is it with you dropping me like a rag doll Sesshoumaru?!” Kagome was pissed at her husband for man handling her that way. She glared after her husband but her air of self-righteousness vanished when she saw him go battle Naraku. Kagome felt her heart sink, but a low feral snarl gained her attention. There was Inuyasha behind her glowering at the battle before him. To Kagome she could have swore that Inuyasha looked at most wild, and she felt that he had frenzied crazy need to join the confrontation.
Come let me show you how I welcome my guests.” He finished that last statement with a hiss as the miasma that was dripping off his arm enveloped him in a torrential whirl wind.
As Kikyou climbed the first flight of step she heard the ruckus above her that made her have second thoughts about finding Naraku. Kikyou stood there indecisive. ‘What the hell is all that noise?’
*Screams of pain and bullet fire*
‘Shit!’ Kikyou yelled at herself. “Sorry Naraku, you are on your own. I have problems of my own.” She turned around to run back down the stairs when she came face to face with the demon from earlier.
“Your right.” Came a hissing low voice. “I’m your problem.”
Fear flashed in her eyes quickly. “No.” Kikyou took a step back. “You’re supposed to be died. I killed you.”
“Sorry bitch.” The battered figured took a step forward closing in one his main target. “It’s going to take more then just a car to kill me.”
Inuyasha charged blindly at the funnel of miasma whirling around them. His hands where going in for the kill but before he could reach the bastard a long black spidery leg erupted from the fog knocking Inuyasha hard into the ground.
*THUNK!*
“INUYASHA!” Kagome screamed in fright and once again tried to go to him, but was pulled back harshly against the wall just as a large glob brushed past her. The glob appeared to be a translucent webbing of sorts and it was aimed right the hanyou, however; it Sesshoumaru didn’t throw her back into the wall Kagome would have been right in the line of fire. Inuyasha rolled before the web entangled him, but as the glob landed on the floor the carpet started to dissolve right before everyone’s eyes.
Laughter once again emitted in the hallway but soon fade into a sound like nails on a chalk board. The miasma cleared just enough to show the real demonic form of Naraku. There at the far end of the hallway was a huge black arachnid.
Kagome’s eyes widened for a moment as she peered over Sesshoumaru’s large frame. She fought the feeling to yell, ‘squish it!’ as she stared at Naraku’s true form. Kagome thought that he was something that stepped out of the pits of hell. She shuddered in revulsion while covering her ears. ‘I hate spiders. I hate spiders. I HATE spiders!’ Kagome chanted to herself.
Sesshoumaru looked at his mate and noticed that she was shaking, but there was no scent of fear, only dislike. “Kagome leave.” Sesshoumaru ordered with frost in his voice as he pulled one of her hands away from her ears.
Shock knocked her for a loop, but then Kagome hunkered down before responding. His tone demanded she not argue, but when had she ever listened to him. Especially, if it was a matter of life or death. “NO! I am not leaving you and that’s final.” Kagome retort had determination stilled into it.
Inuyasha howled at the noise that was grating on his supersensitive ears. He had to stop that fucking noise, and now. Inuyasha leapt up from the ground and started to charge blindly again at Naraku. As he was closing in on the distance Inuyasha jumped into the air taking Naraku by surprise. Inuyasha chuckled with delight because now Naraku was open for an attack. He brought one claw in for the kill.
Naraku knew he was open from the back so he chanted his disappearing spell before the lethal blow could be delivered.
Sesshoumaru remained silent at Kagome’s emphatic insistences. He watched his fool of a brother charge once again into battle with the bastard spider demon. Sesshoumaru for a moment was caught off guard. He really thought Inuyasha was going to kill him, and in one strike. But then again Sesshoumaru should have realized that the worthless hanyou would have fumbled this death blow to their greatest enemy. Sesshoumaru’s eyes narrowed when he saw Naraku disappeared from view, however; his scent still was strong as ever and was growing more potent. ‘What is this?’ Sesshoumaru thought.
Kagome all of a sudden got this twinge of fear snake down her spine. Somehow she knew Naraku’s aura shifted and moved behind her, but Kagome couldn’t see him yet. Before Kagome could react she found herself hauled up against her husband’s arms as he jumped a few yards down the hallway, away from Naraku, and farther away from the exit.
Sesshoumaru cursed silently at the strategic move Naraku made. He forced this Sesshoumaru to make is move, one made to save Kagome. Sesshoumaru deposited Kagome down on the floor rather ungracefully and took off in the blink of an eye.
“What is it with you dropping me like a rag doll Sesshoumaru?!” Kagome was pissed at her husband for man handling her that way. She glared after her husband but her air of self-righteousness vanished when she saw him go battle Naraku. Kagome felt her heart sink, but a low feral snarl gained her attention. There was Inuyasha behind her glowering at the battle before him. To Kagome she could have swore that Inuyasha looked at most wild, and she felt that he had frenzied crazy need to join the confrontation.
