CHAPTER 72: REVEALING TIES
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sango pulled the satin robe off the floor as it lay in a pile of clothes and pulled it onto her person. Her mind was a joyous bundle of thoughts. ‘I’m pregnant. I’m going to have Miroku’s baby.’ Feelings of utter completment swamped her. This felt so right.
Sango hadn’t heard Miroku walking behind her as her hand fiddle with the sash of the robe. She was too deep into thought, but when a heated breathe dance across her ear lobe it broke her day dreaming.
“Let me.” Strong sensual hands took the ends of the sash from Sango and tied it for her, but not before he nuzzled her neck and left a trail of light kisses on her skin. The lean muscular body pulled her lithe frame against him. Miroku’s arm held Sango against him while the other hand instinctively was place on her stomach. It made him a little weak in the knees at the thought of being a father. But, along with all the feelings that went with the thoughts of fatherhood none them exceeded this one. Pride.
Sango leaned into him and sighed. “What are we going to do now?” she giggled when Miroku nipped her ear lobe gently before replying.
“You my dear were going to call Kagome to tell her our joyous news.” His hand that had been laid over her stomach now found its way to a new destination; Sango firm ass. Miroku pinched her bottom causing her to squeak.
“Hentai!” Sango shouted and pulled away from him.
Miroku’s violet colored eyes shined with mischief as he flashed her a breath taking play boy smile. “Yes, Sango I am, but I am your hentai.” He let her go so she could call Kagome, but little did they know that Kagome was preoccupied at the moment. Thus would not be able to take any phone calls.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kikyou clutched that marriage certificate tightly in her palm as she and Inuyasha walked down the steps departing the shrine. Her exuberance could be seen in her, but it was all for the wrong reason. As they drew closer to their parked cars along the street Kikyou could not contain her anticipation at signing her name on that piece of paper that would legally bind her to Inuyasha as husband and wife. Then she would take everything. Even Inuyasha’s life.
Inuyasha couldn’t stomach the thought of what was in that video uplink. ‘What would Kagome say? How would she react?’ His clawed- tipped fingers cradled the small cellular phone that was in his jacket. To Inuyasha, the passing surrounding were blurred to him. He was slightly aware that Kikyou was by his side, however; she was off in her own world much like he was. Both were locked tightly in their own private thoughts. Inuyasha got what he wanted so why didn’t it feel right. Something deep inside Inuyasha told him that there was something amiss, however; he couldn’t put a finger on it. Nervously he pulled the cell phone out of his pocket and eyed it again. Seventy-five percent of the video uplink had been downloaded. ‘Damn it, what is taking so long?’
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kagome didn’t want to turn around. She was close, so close to freedom. ‘If only I could make a dash for the elevator. All would be with in my reach.’
It was like he could read her thoughts. “Go ahead Kagome.” He smiled at the back. “Try and reach for your freedom.”
Kagome didn’t want for Naraku to say anything else. She ran for it with all of her being. The leg that was injured was now throbbing with an excruciating pain, but that wasn’t what drew her attention. It was the irrepressible sound of nothing. Yes, nothing. No hounding sound of heavy falling foot steps coming after her, just the sound of her own feet pummeling the floor as she made her way to the elevator. In the back of her mind she was scared for his non- advancement for her, but the rest of her being told her not to look a gift horse in the mouth. If the sadistic bastard wasn’t going to give chase then don’t stop and try to analyze his actions. However, in the back of her mind that undeniable sixth sense was telling her this was too good to be true.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ayame set Kagome’s cell phone down and started to walk away from it when the damn thing went off. It nearly had her screaming at the top of her lungs, and jumping ten feet in the air. However, it sent Ayame driving for the phone on the table where she had place it. ‘Who the devil is calling Kagome?’ she wondered. She had just completed the video uplink for Inuyasha’s phone and all but dismissed the idea, better yet the possibility that any one would try calling Kagome’s phone.
“Hello.” Ayame said in a breathless tone. She all but forgot to look at the caller ID.
The voice on the other side of the line was a little hesitant in responding.
“Who is this, may I ask?”
There was a pause before the person replied.
“Yes, yes, yes this is Kagome’s cell phone, and no, she can’t come to the phone right now. But who is this?” Ayame growled slightly at the woman’s obvious refusal to answer her question. “Would you like to leave a message?” She said quickly trying to change her tactics. Then it hit her. ‘Caller ID.’ Ayame pulled the phone away and saw the name Sango upon the small screen. She was waylaid by that name. Ayame choked it out. “Sango?”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
At first Sango wasn’t sure she dialed the right number because the person who answered the phone sure wasn’t Kagome. It was a woman no doubt, but not Kags. Sango didn’t respond right away for she was too stunned to say anything. What snapped her to, so to speak was the woman’s sigh. “Is this Kagome Higurashi phone? Is she available?” Sango asked hopeful.
The woman on the other end of the line was having a hard time covering the annoyance in her tone at Sango obvious out right failure to acknowledge her question.
Sango could feel her blood simmering at the woman’s demanding that she answer her questions. ‘Who are you,’ Sango mimicked snottily.
But the persistent woman kept hammering away with questions and demands.
“No, I wouldn’t like to leave a message. I will try back again.” Sango was ready to hang up the phone when she heard her name being called. “Yes,” she replied absent mindedly. Soon after her reply the voice continued to talk. The story the other woman wove sounded like it had come right out of a suspense thriller. When the woman had finished the next thing Sango did was drop the phone onto the floor with a loud clatter. Her heart fell to her knees as desperation filled her. “Oh, Kagome.” Was all she could manage in her disbelief.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kikyou was digging in her purse for a pen to sign the marriage certificate. She was leaning over the hood of her car with silent reverie. ‘I did it. I did it!’ Kikyou congratulated herself. Her hand found a black ink pen and withdrew it from the confines of her purse. Kikyou signed her signature with zealousness, but before she completed it she turned to look at Inuyasha. He still hadn’t said more then two words to her, and he still had his eyes on that damn cell phone. Kikyou felt her composure slip a little. ‘That whore Kagome is not going to ruin this. I will be damn if I let her get in my way. That bitch will wish she never ever laid eyes upon…’ Kikyou snapped herself out of her silent temper tantrum about Kagome. It wouldn’t matter she assured herself. Whatever Kikyou wanted Kikyou got, and right now all she wanted was for Inuyasha to sign the marriage certificate. ‘Yes, all you have to do is sign the paper like a good little fiancé, Inuyasha.’ Kikyou’s lips pursed into a tight fake smile as she dotted her i’s. “Oh, Inuyasha,” she fained with a sweet smile “aren’t you going to make it official?”
Inuyasha was leaning against Kikyou’s car still transfixed on the cell phone when he turned and looked at her with a confused expression. “Huh?”
Brown eyes flashed with annoyance, but were quickly replaced with a teasing glare. “Really Inuyasha! You haven’t forgotten about this already?” A small manicured hand wave the piece of paper in front of him.
“No, no I haven’t.” Inuyasha’s tone seemed lost and flat. It was even written in his now dull golden eyes.
Kikyou watched as Inuyasha returned his attention back to the cell phone he cradled in his hand like a life line. She slide closer to him and snatched the phone out of his hand and scooted at least arms length away.
“Give it back Kikyou.” Inuyasha straighten from the car and started to advance on her.
“No.” She pouted at him. “Not until you sign the marriage certificate. Then I will give it back. Though I don’t know why you would want to know what Kagome has to say to you on this video uplink.”
“Fine, give me a pen and I will sign it.” Inuyasha grumbled. ‘It’s not that I want to know what Kags is going to say; it is because I need to know.’ He answered Kikyou silently.
Kikyou held out with one hand the marriage certificate and the pen. Her pout faded when his clawed hand retrieved the items from her. Kikyou’s eyes followed every movement Inuyasha made. She could have told anyone the number of steps it took him to go back to the hood of the BMW and sign the paper. Five to be exact. Plus, the time it took him to lean over the paper and begin to sign the blasted certificate. Kikyou’s hand tightened around his cell phone as she watched the pen make it’s decent onto the white parchment. ‘Soon.’
The video uplink on the cell phone reached ninety-nine percent download while in Kikyou’s hand.

Naraku watched as Kagome ran for the elevator. He could see her fingers pressing hard and fast against the buttons, but nothing happened. There was no humming of a motor running or the grinding of the gears indicating that the elevator was making its descent or ascent to pick up the beautiful but slightly worn out miko on the tenth floor before him. Naraku smirked. He could tell she didn’t want to turn around and look at him but Kagome had nowhere to go. She was stuck between him and a nonfunctioning elevator that would not grant her, her release. “What’s the matter Kagome?” Naraku clucked his tongue. “Elevator not working?” He asked in a cruel tone that had an underlying malice. Naraku took a step toward her.
Kagome didn’t even hear his advance but she felt it. The aura in the small but narrow hallway darkened. She turned around sharply as her eyes widened at the handsome but deadly hanyou stalking forward. Kagome’s back pressed against the elevator doors, but something deep within her screamed at her to fight. ‘Come Kags don’t let him intimidate you. That is exactly what he wants. Don’t let Naraku think that he has you in his grasps because you are frightened. You have always faced your fears.’ Kagome straighten against the chrome elevator doors. ‘Take control. This is the only way. Fight him. End it now.’
Once again the in a shrouded mist lost memories and images came to the surface. She shut her eyes as her soul took over her. Sounds of the environment were shut off from her senses. The only thing that was heard to her was the humming within her being. On Kagome’s left hand the dull magical ring that had been long dormant stirred to life with a radiant fury. Its powers and hers housed deep inside her awakened with an unfound glory. Her eyes opened but they didn’t show her silver blue irises. Instead they shined with pure white.
Angry bold red lights still ever faithful in there count down ticked away the seconds that remained. 6:44, 6:43, 6:42…

Once the paper was completely signed Inuyasha held it in his hands. His forefingers and thumbs rubbed over the paper. It was as if Inuyasha tried to engulf the meaning and realization that he was now a married man. It was a done deal, and yet he couldn’t feel elated.
Kikyou bounded over to him and threw herself into his arms. “Oh, Yashie!” she exclaimed. “Now we can really start are lives together.” She felt him hold her against his side slackly. Kikyou exchanged the cell phone for the marriage certificate in his hand like a flash.
‘You would think that, that small piece of paper was gold to her with the way her was hording it.’ Inuyasha thought wryly. He didn’t even notice that the screen on the cell phone had changed from video uplink complete to a scene playing, while he held Kikyou.
Kikyou turned to face Inuyasha and was pressing her body against his. She was going to place a hot kiss to Inuyasha’s lips when a loud moaning sound was emitted from the cell phone Inuyasha was now holding.
“That’s right bitch.” the voice said in a moan of pleasure. “Tell me I fuck you better than Inuyasha.”
