Chapter 2, Part II - Chance Meeting
Following the scent-trail of blood, she swiftly yet stealthily approached her target. She ended up in an abandoned park. Kagome didn't know exactly what she was going to face[a youkai, a human or a vampire (which she thought was highly unlikely as she has yet to encounter one while in Japan) but she made sure she wasn't ill-prepared. Her weapons could hurt all three, and could sure as hell kill them too. The silver and her powers would make sure of that.
Creeping silently as a ghost, she was glad the wind wasn't behind her to carry her scent and alert her presence to the enemy. She also made sure to mask her aura so she could catch them unaware. When she reached a clearing, that's when she found them.
There were five; four males and one female. They were circling around a raven-haired man lying on the ground. Even from where she was hiding behind a huge tree, she could see that they bloodied him severely. They were playing with him, like a bunch of cats with a mouse. The sight and stench of his blood excited them even more, if the unholy sounds they were making were an indication. Kagome saw the woman lift one of her hands that was covered in 'his' blood and proceeded to lick it clean, like icing from a cake.
Kagome was sure without a doubt: they were vampires.
Still reeling from the fact that vampires now invaded her homeland, Kagome took quick stock of the man again. His clothes were torn beyond repair, and he was covered in more blood than his clothes covered him. Various nicks and scratches were on him, not to mention deeper wounds and slash-marks too, but thankfully no punctures or bite-marks as of yet. Vampires usually go for the jugular, though that doesn't mean they can't bite you anywhere else. But something told her they haven't bitten him... yet. They were deliberately taking their time, and Kagome wasn't going to wait to find out why. She had to act soon[and fast. The man could still die from loss of blood if she didn't figure out a way to kill all vampires present in a flash and get to him in time.
Not wanting to waste another minute, Kagome reached for an arrow, notched it to her bow and made her move.
Setting her sights on the nearest vampire that had its' back turned to her, she dispatched her arrow with cold-blooded precision. The arrow barely reached its' mark before she was throwing her kunai at them, forcing them to scatter away from the man. The male vampire turned to dust and hit the ground when her arrow pierced its' heart. Kagome knew she gave her location away with that attack, so she used her inhuman speed to move fast towards the man.
The remaining vampires came at her all at once, planning to overwhelm her with their sheer number. But Kagome was ready for them. Having gathered her power, she pushed it towards them with all her might, releasing it like a punch to the guts. It knocked them down and away from her, buying her some precious time to get closer to her goal.
One of them quickly recovered though, and charged towards her with full-speed, claws extended to deal extreme damage. Kagome knew there was no time to gather her power, so she pressed on something at the side of her bow and shifted it to its' defensive mode. Solid panels in the shape of a web formed a circular fan around the middle of the bow, and Kagome used it to block the vampire's attack and trap it as well. She pivoted swiftly to the side, sending the surprised vampire out of balance and delivered a vicious head-kick that would otherwise turn a human's head 180 degrees from the body. But she was dealing with a vampire, so she only managed to snap its' head back, the eyes rolling to the back of its' head before falling on the dirt, unconscious. Kagome pulled an arrow from her quiver and stabbed it straight at the heart. Two down, three to go.
The vampires have all recovered now, and realizing their mistake earlier, they now attacked her in synch with each other, forcing her to take evasive and defensive actions. Kagome dodged, blocked, parried and countered every attack except one: the female vampire got in a lucky kick to her middle, sending her flying backward to land with her ass on the ground. Kagome's luck held though, because she landed right next to the man she was so desperate to reach. Gritting her teeth in agony, she willed her mind to ignore the excruciating pain and focus on him.
The vampires now circled them both, grinning obscenely. They knew that last attack has weakened her, and she also lost her bow in the struggle. She was defenseless... or so they thought. They haven't seen the surprise she was keeping behind her back.
"Well, well. Look what we have here. Seems lady luck's on our side tonight, Alexei. Not only do we get to bag an exceptional piece of baggage, but two of them in one night,"
The female hissed her displeasure at the two male vampires with her.
