Chapter Seven

Kagome looked at Emmett with worry, and then turned her attention towards the woman he had just spoken to. Ah She thought So, that's the girl who left Emmett.

Taking her eyesight away from the two ex lovers, Kagome looked around at the rest of the family. She didn't need Jasper's power to tell how they were feeling and as of right now, she felt as though she was intruding.

The air that was usually comfortable and loving had turned to uncomfortable and awkward as soon as the two had greeted one another. The two were now having a stare down as everyone else just looked, well all we need now is a tumbleweed to come rolling through Kagome thought with a frown.

The quietness that seemed to last forever was broken as the back door opened and Landon came through, it was obvious that he had been hunting before hand.

He stopped as he came to the entrance way to the living room, looking around he was able to figure out what had happened.

“Awkward” He mumbled, seeing that everyones attention was suddenly on him he laughed sheepishly and turned his attention towards Kagome.

“Should we go and get you something to eat?” he asked her.

If anything; Kagome was very glad for her father right now, although she wasn't exactly hungry at the moment, it was a good excuse to leave. “Okay, lets go- uhm thanks, bye.” She said, though the bye was more directed towards Emmett she knew he wasn't really paying attention right now.

She sighed, after waving towards the rest of the family she grabbed her dad's hand and started towards the door leaving the awkward atmosphere behind.

The ride home was spent in silence between the father and daughter, Landon knew they had food at home so he really didn't want to pressure her into telling him if she wanted something.

Especially not when she was in that 'mood', yes- when it comes to personality she definitely took after her mother. After being with her mother, Landon knew not to say anything when they were in this 'thinking' mood, unless of course you wanted your head bitten off and everything.

He sighed, and just decided to stay quiet and drive home. When they finally reached their home Landon got out and noticed Kagome still sitting in the car, sighing once more he approached her side of the car and opened the door.

“We are home now.” He stated quietly, as he held the door open for her.

Kagome jumped at his voice but nodded and got out of the car, Landon followed after her

“Ah, Do you want me to fix you anything?” He asked.

Kagome gave him a small smile, one he wasn't use to seeing and shook her head. “No thanks, I'm going to go up to room for a little bit.”

Landon sighed but nodded, he really didn't know how to handle this- I mean handling a middle aged womans' problems was much easier then handling a teenage girl's problems.

Huffing he sat down on the couch, maybe it would be better to call her mom?

* * *

While Landon was thinking of what to do downstairs, Kagome was in her room laying down on her bed.

She knew she really shouldn't be feeling this much pain, she didn't know Emmett that well- she didn't even know him for that long.

But why was she feeling this much pain? not to mention that after seeing Rosalie, her self esteem got rather deflated.

Her eyes traced the patterns in the ceiling as her thoughts wandered, it felt as though she was back in the feudal era again, in the same situation as before. Except of course Rosalie wasn't exactly the same as Kikyo.

But it was the same story, just with two different characters. What was she to do? She knew that she did like Emmett. No matter how much time they had been together, as friends, she felt a strong connection with him.

She ran her hand through her hair as she sighed, really- it seemed as though she always just fell for people she could never have. Maybe Emmett wouldn't get back with Rosalie? Maybe Rosalie didn't even come back to get with Emmett again? There are a lot of questions going through her head at the moment, that Kagome just didn't have the answer for right now.

Kagome was brought from her thoughts from the knock at her door. She looked at it for a moment before returning to looking at the ceiling. “Come in”

The door opened and closed, Kagome looked towards who entered to see her father standing by her door rather awkwardly. She smiled lightly at him, “Would you like to take a seat?” She questioned while motioning towards the seat near her bed.

Landon nodded, and sat in the seat provided. The two sat in silence for a few minutes before Landon cleared his throat and spoke, “A penny for you thoughts?” He asked.

Kagome sighed, “I'm pretty sure its obvious what my thoughts are about.”

Landon shrugged, “While that might be, I want to hear it from you-So whats bothering you?”

Kagome chewed on her bottom lip as she thought for a moment, before answering. “I'm just confused- why do we fall for the people we do? More so, why am I hurting so bad right now, I just don't understand it”

Landon scooted the chair closer to her bed. He ran his hand through her hair, a calming gesture he and her mom always did when she was younger. He shrugged, “It happens, you can never predict what life will throw at you. Nor where you will go; and as for why you are hurting right now, its because you are trying to deny what your heart and soul are trying to tell you.”

Kagome turned her attention towards her father, really looking at his face it was like looking at a brother instead of a father. He didn't look a day over twenty, but still this still felt weird talking to him about something such as this. But then- she knew he understood after all he went through something similar with her mother.

“How did you get through it, you know- the whole thing with mom and everything.” She asked.

Landon looked thoughtful for a moment, “I just took everyday as it came- I did, and still do love your mother. But I wasn't good for her, and I knew she would still be happy with Souta's father. Aside from that, I still had you. But even if that wasn't the case- although I love your mom I wanted her to be happy, and when it comes to love, you have to sacrifice a lot sometimes.”

Kagome nodded, that sort of made sense. “Ah, I have another question.”

Landon nodded, “what is it?”

“Why do I still have some human qualities; like having to eat, and sleep. While I also have the same strength as you guys? But then I'm still the same physically?” She asked.

Landon thought over his answer for a few moments, before saying it. “Well, your body is preparing you for the change. Right now its changing some of your things inside- muscles and such. But soon your physical appearance will change and you won't need to eat human food nor sleep anymore.” He answered, then chuckled. “But, cherish it while you can.”

Kagome nodded, “Well then in that case I think I'll get something to eat now. All this thinking is making me hungry.”

Landon hummed and looked her over in worry, “Are you okay now?”

Kagome smiled, “Yes” she answered. Not really She thought as she followed Landon down the stairs, but I don't want to make you worry.

The rest of the evening Kagome spent with her dad, catching up on some things they didn't have to the chance to. Along with just life in general- her past, and what he didn't know.

Around midnight Kagome finally decided it was time for bed and went upstairs, though when she laid down to try and sleep she was left with her mind being flooded with thoughts she had previously been ignoring.

An hour or so later Kagome felt herself drift into a light sleep.

* * *

The next day Kagome awoke with the sunlight shining in her eyes, she groaned and flipped onto her stomach. Turning her head the opposite way of where the light was coming from. Just as she almost went back to sleep a knock came at her door, maybe if I ignore it, they will go away she thought, she really wasn't up for getting well up right now. Her head hurt, as did the rest of her. To put it simply she felt like crap, the knocking however didn't cease. “Come in!” She mumbled, knowing that the other person could hear her perfectly.

The door opened, and Kagome slightly opened her eyes to glare at the person to find her dad she huffed, “Yes?”

He smirked, “Are you not going to school today?”

Kagome sighed, “No, I don't feel very good.”

Landon nodded “ Well thats good since I already called off for you” he answered with a smirk.

Kagome glared at him then looked at her clock, “Then why did you wake me up?” She questioned.

Landon looked thoughtful for a moment before shrugging his shoulders, “I dunno, I sort of just wanted to- anyways, I'm going out, be good!”

He didn't wait for a reply before closing her door, and leaving the house. Kagome looked at where he had previously been before shaking her head and laying back down.

Kagome had spent most of the day that way-just lying in bed. She didn't bother to charge her phone last night, so for the whole day it had been dead. Leaving her with nothing to do but watch television and do her homework.

The next morning Kagome was woken by the ringing of the doorbell. Looking up at her clock she noted that is was well into the afternoon. Frowning she sat up and stared at her bedroom door for a few moments, Why didn't dad wake me up? She thought.

Hearing the doorbell go off once more, Kagome got dressed quickly, before making her way downstairs and to the front door.

As she reached it, she swung it open-thinking it may have been her father and he had just forgotten his keys. But who was at the door, was the last person she had been expecting. Shaking her head, Kagome looked at the guest. “Hello, would you like to come in?” She questioned.

Although she really didn't want to let the person in, it would be rude to just close the door on her face. The blond girl, Rosalie-Kagome believed was her name. Nodded, and stepped inside the house quickly.

After Rosalie entered, and Kagome took her jacket and hung it up. The two made their way towards the living room and sat down.

Both of them sat in silence for a few minutes before Kagome cleared her throat, grabbing Rosalie's attention. Once seeing she had it Kagome spoke, “Not to sound rude- but may I ask why you are here?”she questioned.

Rosalie smiled and nodded, “Right, I am here because I need to talk to you about Emmett and the others.” she replied.

Kagome's eyes narrowed briefly as she looked at the blond, before her face took on an emotionless expression. “What about them?” She asked. She may have been being a little mean, but really- at the moment she didn't care.

Rosalie looked around the room, taking her attention away from Kagome before speaking.

“You shouldn't come to their home, at least not for awhile. Also- avoid contact with them.”

Kagome glared at the woman once more, “Why?” she asked. Really, who was this woman to start saying whom she could or could not talk to.

Rosalie shrugged, “I can't really go into that with you- but it isn't just you, Bella isn't allowed to come either.” she replied while continuing to look around the room.

Kagome huffed, “Okay, sure” she replied, I didn't really want to see any of them for awhile anyways she thought sadly.

Hearing her agreement Rosalie turned her attention back towards Kagome and smiled, “That's great- well I need to go, take care!” she stated. Before going and getting her jacket and leaving the house.

Kagome sat in silence as she looked at the path Rosalie had taken to leave. After sitting like that for a few more minutes, she shook her head and stood before going to her room. She had to finish her homework anyways.

The next morning Kagome woke up an hour before school was to start and put her things in her bag before going to get dressed for the day.

After getting dressed and grabbing her book bag she made her way downstairs where she saw her father watching the television. He looked up as she entered, “Ah good morning, are you going to school today?”

Kagome nodded, “Yeah, but um do you think you can give me a ride?”

Landon looked thoughtful for a moment before nodding, “Yes, But why?”

Kagome shrugged, “Well, I just figured that since you have been busy with the car these past few days you might need it again today.” She replied.

Landon hummed and nodded, “Well your right, Okay lets go.”

With that said the two went to the car and got inside, and then made their way over to the school. When they arrived there Landon stopped Kagome as she was getting out, “Call me if you need me to pick you up.”

Kagome nodded and bid her father goodbye before making her way inside. Since they had left later the first bell just rang so she really didn't have time to look around for any of the Cullen family.

When she reached the classroom she went towards her seat, once there she noticed that Emmett was in fact at school and in the classroom. Before going to her seat she made her way to his, “Hello Emmett!” She greeted as cheerfully as she could.

He jumped, apparently not expecting the sudden voice. He looked up at her briefly and gave her a clipped “Hey” before turning to face outside the window.

Kagome frowned but shook her head and went to her seat, looking questionably at Emmett throughout the class; though none of those times was he looking at her.

The class after had been the same away, she hadn't seen any of the others but this was really starting to worry her. By lunch time she had finally had enough, going to the nurses office she asked if she could go home.

The nurse gave it an okay, Kagome went out of the room to call her father. After two times of trying to call him and getting no answer; Kagome sighed and decided it may be better to just walk home.

After getting her things ready she started on the way home. She really didn't mind it- granted it was a long walk but it was nothing she couldn't handle. As she walked she smiled; walking, or just being in the fresh air, always helped with settling her thoughts.

As she was walking to looked around at the tall trees the surrounded the road, it was peaceful but then in a way also frightening. Stopping she took her backpack off and started rummaging through it “Ah” she mumbled as she pulled out her i pod and headphones. They weren't allowed to listen to it during class(obviously), But she always brought it just encase.

Besides nature, music was the other thing that always lightened Kagome's mood whenever she was having a bad day.

Starting it and turning it to medium volume, she zipped her backpack back up before putting it at its previous spot. Once everything was situated, she began walking again.

As she started walking previous thoughts she has been suppressing were brought up, she was worried about her relationship with Emmett. Will it be able to continue? A prick of pain entered her heart at that thought, her feelings for Emmett may be one sided right?

Kagome frowned and looked down towards the ground, watching as her feet stepped on it, making an imprint in the loose parts the rain had made.

It shouldn't matter, she would be fine with friendship, but would Emmett? No matter how much she wished for once that her love was returned. She also wanted Emmett to be happy, and who wouldn't be happy with Rosalie? She was the model of what perfect should look like.

Kagome brought her hand to her face as she felt wetness on it, running her fingers lightly over her cheek she smiled weakly.

“Funny, I didn't know it started raining again.” She mumbled lightly.

Crying showed weakness, it was what she had been taught so many times from the past. She wasn't afraid of Sesshoumaru, nor was she afraid of Naraku.

She had never shown such a weakness to either of them, then again They had never made her cry, but then she thought, they never made me smile either. I wonder, can you die from a fragile heart.

She growled, I can't blame anyone but myself- oh and my heart. I can blame that just fine.

Kagome looked up and noticed she didn't have much longer before she reached home, her hopes however stopped suddenly, as she felt a strong hand wrap its way around her arm.

Turning she glared at the owner, thinking it may be Mike or one of her classmates. Her eyes widened however as they took in the person holding her arm.

It was a man, He was tall and pale but the thing that scared her most was his eye color; a feral red. The man smiled evilly, instead of looking evil however it looked more insane.

“Your coming with us” He ordered, his voice was soft yet deadly.

Kagome growled, “No, I'm not” She replied, her eyes narrowing as she glared at the man.

She tried jerking away, but it was no use the male pulled her to him.

No! she screamed in her mind, I'm tired of being the damsel in distress!!

with that thought in mind, she bite the males arm, she was sure that some of her teeth cracked but right now she didn't care.

Her bite may not have hurt the male, but it did shock him. Giving Kagome temporarily freedom as he released her. She didn't have much time, with the seconds she was given she ran forward, trying to put as much distance between herself and the stranger.

It was in vain though, as soon as the males shock had resided he quickly came forward, putting a stop in Kagome's attempt escape. He appeared before her grabbing her arm and quickly throwing her to the ground.

Kagome growled once more, clutching her arm she glared at the male. He returned the glare tenfold, he then came to her level. He held her in a position that didn't give her any way to move, He then turned his head to where they had come from before.

“Hurry up and bring that stuff and give it to her, I'm tired of dealing crap like this!” He yelled.

Kagome couldn't turn her head towards the direction that he had spoken to. But she heard a quiet reply.

Growling again, Kagome tried to buck the male off of her. He growled in return, shoving her head into the ground. “Stay still” He growled out.

Not much longer the sound of footsteps approaching could be heard. “I got it.” A soft voice spoke.

The male on top of her growled once more, “Well don't just stand there, hurry up!”

The next moment Kagome felt a needle prick her arm, she growled and tried to move away again. She then felt as something cold started going throughout her veins.

Soon the feeling numbed, along with everything- Kagome whimpered weakly as she felt the needle withdraw from her skin. Her body felt heavy, and her vision and hearing were starting to lessen.

The last thing she felt was as her body was picked up and thrown into somewhere hard and cold. As she felt herself being drifted into the darkness, she spoke of the person in which would provide safety “Emmett” She whimpered.

She heard a harsh laugh from the male from before, “Oh, he won't be coming for you! Why should he? Your nothing to him.” after his small speech the male howled in laughter, as though what he had just said was the best joke ever.

Kagome shut her eyes tightly, letting herself fall into the darkness that had been calling her.

With Emmett, at school(in the morning)

* * *

Emmett looked at the clock anxiously, it was almost lunch time and he couldn't wait for it.

Although he felt bad, early he hadn't exactly been 'himself' when he had seen Kagome. Not only had he not seen her for three days after his ex lover came back into the picture, but then he didn't really talk to her as usual too.

He frowned, it wasn't that he wanted to end their friendship. He certainly wasn't going back with Rosalie, even if that was an option. He hadn't answered because he was trying to think of how to approach Kagome with the subject he had in his mind.

Rosalie's appearance had brought on a lot of things, but mainly it helped him realize just how deep his feelings for Kagome were.

Emmett looked at the clock once more before frowning, he still had awhile. Looking down at his notes he thought of what had exactly happened after Kagome and her father leaving.

Flashback

Emmett nodded towards Kagome as she started to leave. He should have probably given her a more proper goodbye but right now his mind was going haywire.

After he heard the door close, he returned his full attention to Rosalie.

“What are you doing here?” He asked.

Rosalie looked at him, annoyed. “What? I'm not allowed to see my family?”

he frowned before shaking his head, “No, that's fine. But Carlisle said you weren't suppose to come for another week or so.” he replied.

Rosalie frowned too, “Well, something came up. Who was that girl, your girlfriend?” she questioned.

Emmett got the sudden urge the wipe the once cute smirk off the blonde's face. His response however was interrupted by Carlisle who had just previously came back with Landon.

“How about we go sit down, and Rosalie can tell us what she had planned to” Carlisle spoke.

The rest of the family nodded and made their way towards the dinning room table, which had been labeled as their 'meeting table'.

Once each family member had taken their respective seats, Carlisle turned towards Rosalie.

“Now Rosalie why don't you start, what was it that brought you earlier?”He asked.

Rosalie looked thoughtful for a moment, as she tried to arrange her thoughts. Before nodding and she started speaking.

“My boyfriend and I were patrolling near where we live when we first caught site of them, the Landoste clan has made their way back. It also seems as though they had recruited more 'guinea pigs” for whatever experiment they are currently working on.” She said, once seeing everyone understanding she continued. “They didn't see us, but we had tracked them for awhile-trying to see where they were headed. It lead to here, forks.”

The rest of the family all looked shocked, seeing as they were not going to speak anytime soon, Rosalie continued talking.

“It is probably better if no outsiders hang around our family, that way it lessens the change of those becoming in danger. Meaning those two that were here earlier, along with Bella.”

Edward spoke next, “Wow Rosalie I'm surprised, thats new of you. Thinking of others.”

Rosalie snarled in his direction, “Yeah well, my boyfriend said it would probably be best. After I told him about Bella.” She responded, while glaring at Edward.

Edward shrugged his shoulders, “That's fine, we can just tell Bella and Kagome at school, right?” his question was directed towards Emmett, who in turn nodded his agreement.

“But what I don't get is, why are they coming after us now?”Jasper asked.

Alice hummed, “Also, why am I not able to see them? Or any decisions they have been making?”

Everyone was quiet for sometime, trying to think of answers to the newly asked questions. After a few moments of silence, Carlisle voiced his opinion.

“It may be, they are just looking for revenge and are confident enough in there strength that they choose now to pursue it. As for your question Alice, They could know of your power- they are they kind to look up their opponents, find their weakness.” he responded.

Jasper looked shocked for a moment, “That is always the best strategy for battle” he frowned, “I might want to look up more on them too.” He stated before leaving, and most likely going to his office.

Edward got up from his previous spot too, claiming he needed to go and tell Bella of what was going on so far. Since this would be able to be their last night spent together for awhile.

Alice and Rosalie went to go catch up, Esme and Carlisle went to go do their own research. Leaving Emmett alone to his thoughts.

He would make up being rude to Kagome the following day at school. When that day came however, Kagome was absent. When Emmett asked Alice why, She responded with “She needs sometime for her thoughts”

In which Emmett was respectful to. The second day however, he was going to go and drag her to school but was stopped by Alice. “Rosalie will go tell her, about the things going on, don't worry”

Although that didn't stop him for worrying his obeyed, school without Kagome wasn't fun. But it gave him sometime to think, he knew know that he really did care a lot about Kagome. Although it wasn't exactly at his feeling for Rosalie were, they were getting there.

He had been planning on asking Kagome if he could court her on the night that they had gone to the movies. But with Rosalie being at the house he didn't have the chance, the next time she came to school however he would do so.

End Flashback

Emmett was brought from his thoughts as the bell dismissing class finally came, quickly standing. He put his things together before leaving the classroom. After stopping at his locker and putting away his books, and papers. He made his way towards the lunch room.

When he reached inside, he sat down at him and his families usual table and looked around the cafeteria.

When he couldn't find Kagome anywhere, Emmett frowned.

“Where is she?” He mumbled.

So caught up in his search for her, he missed his family coming to sit with him. So when Alice answered to his question, he jumped- not expecting it.

“She left early, were you mean to her?” Alice asked, her tone seemed as though she was already blaming Emmett without hearing his reply.

Emmett huffed as he turned towards his sister, “No, I just said Hello. N I haven't had time to talk to her since first period.”

Alice glared at Emmett for a moment before shaking her head, and turning her attention towards Jasper.

Edward patted Emmett's shoulder, “Don't worry, there is always tomorrow.”

Emmett nodded, Yeah he thought, there always is tomorrow.

The rest of the day passed by in a blur for Emmett, and soon he found himself in the car with his family going home.

When they reached the house, everyone got out of the car and headed towards the front door.

As they neared the door however, it was opened as Landon came out if it and went towards the siblings in a frantic mode, when asked what happened he held up a piece of paper. “Look at this, its what I got in the mail!!”

Taking the letter Emmett looked at it curiously, seeing it had an “A” on it. He then looked at Landon, “It's got a letter on it?” He asked.

Landon Nodded frantically “Yes, but turn it over its also got a note!”

Doing as he said Emmett turned the paper over, indeed there was a note- a musical note.

He looked up at Landon as though the man had lost his mind, which may be the case.

“Why did you give this to me?”

Landon huffed, “Well I wasn't done, with it I also got this message from some goons, they kidnapped Kagome!!”

Emmett took the letter from Landon and quickly scanned it, Kidnapped and Kagome were indeed there and they made Emmett's entire body stiffen.

It seemed as though everything around him stopped as he re-read the paper multiple times, before crumbling it in his hand.

His jaw tightened as he with held the growl that wanted to come through, Fine they wanted to play in such a dirty way, then they shall play.

It will end up being their funeral, and he will make sure they all get cooked extra crispy.

As he made his way out the door, after briefing his family as to what was going on.

He started his way to where the directions on the paper told him to go,

Please Kagome He thought Stay safe until I get there, please wait for me.

With that thought, he raised his speed as he ran towards his destination. He heard his family following close behind as they made their way where Kagome hopefully was.
