Surprise! Kagome’s a What?
AN: Hey, so I’m still not sure whether to go with very frequent short chapters or longer ones that’ll just take a bit longer to produce. Feel free to give me input on that. I’d like to thank Laur, Nemoxgirl, kikyoslovergirl, Wolf, caramel and Rakana for their reviews, THANX! And Nemoxgirl I appreciate the opinion, and I’ll work on it. So, on with the story!

***With Inuyasha (Shippo’s POV)***
It was getting late, and as the fire died down they each took their respective sleeping places. Though as they drifted to their normal spots Shippo realized that he didn’t know where he should go. He certainly wasn’t going to sleep with Inuyasha! The big jerk was responsible for his mother’s absence. So he wandered over to Sango hoping she wouldn’t mind sharing her bed with him for the night.
“Um, Sango.” He started unsure of himself. He’d never had to ask before, Kagome always just assumed he’d sleep with her.
“What is it Shippo?” She asked. It only took a moment before it dawned on her what was going on. “Oh! I’m sorry. Come on, you’re welcome to sleep with me.” As she spoke she lifted up her blanket just enough that he could slide in with her.
As he got comfortable he noticed Miroku. *He he, he’s probably so jealous right now.* He grinned at Miroku just to rub it in, as he drifted off to sleep.
He was woken up not long after by the sound of people talking. It seems that Sango and Miroku had waited until they thought he was asleep to talk. So he did his best to feign sleep.
“Miroku, I’m getting really worried about Kagome.”
“She’ll be fine. She’s an Inuyoukai now, she can handle herself.”
“I know, but what if she runs into something. You know how things just seem to happen to her.”
“I know but I’m sure she’ll manage to make it through the night. In the morning we can go look for her. But going now wouldn’t do us any good, we’d just get lost.”
“I know Miroku, I just can’t help but worry for her.” There was the sound of the sheet rustling as Sango settled in. Not long after the rest of the group fell off to sleep.
***With Sesshomaru’s Pack***
Ah-An was trying to get some sleep. Unfortunately the toad was screeching again. “RIN! You are supposed to be asleep by now! Got to sleep you stupid human before you anger our lord!” The girl was just asking to go relieve herself, stupid toad. Poor girl looks as if she’s going to cry.
Ah-An chose that moment to intervene. With languid movements they rose to their feet, and scooped up Rin before walking into the forest. Of course the toad just couldn’t leave that be. No, he had to trail after them screeching and complaining the whole way.
“Thank you Ah-An.” Rin said, barely able to keep the words from slurring from exhaustion.
Not far into the forest they stopped and let Rin down to do her business. Ah-An turned to Jaken and picked him up by the collar so that he couldn’t disturb Rin. They were getting a headache from all this screeching, and picking him up thusly just made it worse.
“You will put me down this instant you stupid…” That was as far as he got, before Ah-An decided they’d had enough and knocked him against a tree. Effectively shutting him up. You can’t yell if you’re not conscious. *Sigh, much better.*
It wasn’t much longer before Rin finished and walked the short distance to the river to wash her hands. Ah-An fallowed, knowing that a sleepy Rin and a river weren’t the best mix. And sure enough he got there just in time to catch her before she fell in.
The trip back to camp was quite, with Jaken still unconscious, and Rin fast asleep on his back.
***With Sesshomaru ()***
Kagome was in shock to say the least. On minute he was pinning her to a tree, then the next he was inviting her to spend the night with him.
~Correction, with his pack~
*What pack?*
~How am I supposed to know? I’ve only been around for a day!...Hold on, I’ll search your memories.~
*You can do that?*
~Duh! How else am I supposed to get information?~
*I don’t know.*
~…~ There was a pause as Kagome’s beast searched her memory. ~Oh, duh! The little girl and the toad thing.~
*Oh yeah.* Kagome then realized he wasn’t waiting for her and was about to step out of her line of sight. *Might as well, take him up on his offer. I really don’t like the idea of trying to get back tonight.* So she followed.
The walk wasn’t too far, apparently she had inadvertently run in the direction of his camp and then past. So after a few minute Sesshomaru came to an abrupt halt. After a quick survey of his camp Kagome noticed something was missing. Mainly its occupants. Sesshomaru didn’t seem to worried though so Kagome waited to see what he would do.
Except he didn’t do anything, he just stood there staring off in one direction. It was then that Kagome heard it, the crunch of brush under large feet. Seconds later to be followed by the sight of the two headed dragon that sometimes accompanied the group. Kagome couldn’t quite hold in the giggle as she saw the toad handing from its mouth, obviously knocked out, judging by the goose egg on its forehead.
As the beast came to a halt in what she had to assume was its spot for the night she noticed Rin was slumped over on its back. As Sesshomaru made no move to get the girl Kagome stepped forward to retrieve her. It was then that the dragon noticed her, turning in her direction. The head that didn’t have its mouth full growled at her. She couldn’t really say she was surprised as it seemed to be protective of the girl.
While she paused to consider how to approach the situation the dragon took the moment to remove the toad from its mouth effectively by tossing it across the clearing and into a rather large tree. The crunching sound that reverberated through the camp was rather sickening, but at least they wouldn’t have to deal with the creature until morning. There was no way he was waking up any time soon.
“Ah-An let her take Rin.” Kagome was brought out of her thoughts by the sound of Sesshomaru’s voice. He must have caught on to her dilemma. After his quick command the dragon, which she now knew as Ah-An *such a weird name*, dropped down so that she could better reach Rin.
The little girl fidgeted a bit when she pulled her off of Ah-An, seeming to not want to be moved. “It’s ok sweaty, I’ve got you.” Kagome said, after which the girl settled into her arms. Kagome had to be careful not to hurt her with her new claws, not yet being used to having them. There was a small bedroll close to where Ah-An sat that looked to be Rin’s so that’s where she placed the girl, tucking her in before seeking a place to sleep herself.
While she had attended to Rin Sesshomaru had taken his place at the base of a tree on the far side of camp. So she decided to stick close to Rin, making sure to put herself between Rin and the toad. She knew how mean the toad was to the poor girl, and meant to put a stop to that real quick in the morning. As she drifted off she couldn’t help but take one more look over at Sesshomaru. He looked so regal, even just leaning against a tree, the way he held himself was just so. She wondered what was behind the cold mask.
AN: Hey, so this one’s a little longer, hope you liked it. Reviews and constructive criticism are always welcome.
