Sesshomaru and the Forgiving Soul

Chapter 6:

Kagome felt Rin stir in her arms and tightened her grip on the girl. Slowly she accessed her surroundings. Once she was sure everything was okay she opened her eyes. Rin was awake and staring at her new claws.

“Kagome… what happened to me?” Rin looked up at her with concern written on her face. Kagome looked over at Sesshomaru. He was awake and looking at the two of them.

“While I am grateful, I do not understand what happened either.” Kagome looked around the camp for everyone else. “The slayer and the monk went with Inuyasha to your village.” Kagome nodded.

“Well, what happened was Midoriko. When I was out I talked to her. She gave me her powers and a few gifts. Once of which was the potion I used on you Rin. ‘Someone very close to you is going to die soon. This potion will save their life but at a very high cost. It will turn that person into what they are not.’ That’s what she said to me. I was trying to warn Sesshomaru about it when I felt the demon.” Rin looked satisfied with the answer. She hugged Kagome tightly before getting up. She moved to Sesshomaru and kneeled down in front of him, just sitting there.

“I have some questions.” Kagome nodded. “Why did you need this Sesshomaru’s blood?”

“Well I knew from what Midoriko said she would become a demon but the type of demon wasn’t specified. So I thought that if I mixed a droop of your blood into the potion it would guarantee that she would become an Inu youkai.” Sesshomaru pondered this answer for a moment before slightly inclining his head.

“What about the crescent symbol?” Kagome shook her head.

“I don’t know. She didn’t say anything about that. It could be a side affect of your blood.” Then Rin’s quiet voice reached Kagome’s ears.

“Kagome… can I ask you a question?” Kagome nodded. “Well, Sesshomaru-sama is daddy because he gave me life once, so are you momma because you gave me life too?” Kagome looked shocked at the girls question and looked to Sesshomaru for his opinion. Sesshomaru seemed unfazed waiting for her answer to the child. Kagome sighed.

“You know that you are a demon now right?” Rin nodded. “You will live as long as Sesshomaru-sama which is a very long time. I won’t live that long.” Rin looked concerned. “It won’t happen for many years yet but I will get old and die. Then I won’t be there for you any more.” Sadness crossed the child’s face.

“But, what will happen to Rin if you aren’t there?”

“Sesshomaru-sama will always be there for you even if I can’t.” Rin pondered this for a moment and nodded but did not look happy about it.

“Rin.” Rin looked at Sesshomaru immediately. “You do not have to use this Sesshomaru’s name.” Rin’s face split wide with a grin. She threw her arms around him and laughed. Kagome saw the gapping hole in the back of the kimono that Rin was wearing.

“I need to get Rin a new kimono. This one is ruined.” Sesshomaru nodded over Rin’s head. Rin looked up at her and smiled.

“Kagome-chan is momma. Even if you’re not around for forever like daddy is going to be, you’re still my momma.” Kagome smiled and nodded at her.

“Well come on. We’d better get ready so we can go back to the village.” Kagome stood and smoothed out the kimono she was still wearing. She gathered her bathing supplies and took Rin the river, which was closer than the hot spring. Together the girls bathed while Sesshomaru kept silent and discreet watch over them. Once finished they packed up camp and started out. Rin seemed the same as always, running and gathering flowers. Sesshomaru kept his cold demeanor the whole time they traveled.

They arrived at the village as the setting sun was beginning to color the sky. Villagers were going around their chores. Inuyasha and the gang were no where in sight. Kaede was sitting outside her hut cooking in the warm spring air.

“Oi Kaede!” Kagome greeted the old woman. Kaede looked up from her cooking and smiled warmly at the future girl. Then her smile froze and shattered as she looked behind the girl at Sesshomaru and Rin.

“Oi, Kagome. So Inuyasha was right when he said you were teaming up with Sesshomaru now.” Kagome looked puzzled. “Inuyasha was here earlier today and told me how you were acting strange and teamed up with Sesshomaru.”

“Sesshomaru has been with us for several days now after I gave Rin her kimono. Speaking of, do you have more of that red and white material? Rin’s kimono got torn badly and she needs a new one.” Kaede gestured toward the hut behind her.

“It’s in there. What is Sesshomaru still doing with you? Inuyasha made it sound like you had abandoned the group. He said that he didn’t want to see you again since you choose Sesshomaru over him.” Kagome looked back at Sesshomaru for an explanation. Sesshomaru looked as bored as ever.

“Why would Inuyasha say that?” Sesshomaru just glanced at her and then back to the old woman.

“The kimono.” Kagome frowned in thought.

“Do you mean the kimono I gave to Rin or the kimono you gave me?” Kaede gasped. Kagome turned toward her. Kaede was shocked to say the least and it showed.

“Child, do you realize what you have done?” Kagome shook her head. “Unfortunately ignorance of the agreement will not save you from this.”

“What agreement?” Kagome was very confused.

“By giving his ward a kimono you placed yourself under the care of the Western Lands and its Lord. By accepting the kimono from the Lord you have accepted his courtship.” Kagome stood there stunned for a minute before blushing madly and shaking her head.

“Courtship? You mean like dating? No this can’t be happening.”

“Like I said. You accepted and now Sesshomaru is courting you. If this continues you will become mates.” Kagome stood with her mouth hanging open staring at the old woman. Her mouth tried to form words but nothing would come out. Kagome closed her eyes and took a deep breath.

“Mates, what does that mean exactly?” Kagome waited for a tense second before she heard Sesshomaru reply.

“Mates, a couple, married in human terms. We would spend eternity together and you would bear my pups.” Kagome slowly turned around to look at Sesshomaru. He had a twinkle in his eye but otherwise had the same bored look on his face.

“So you really are going to be my momma forever!”

Everything seemed to slow down for the girl. Slowly she sank to her knees still looking at Sesshomaru. A tear slid down her check and she dimly realized that Kaede and Rin were next to her saying something. Sesshomaru just stared back at her showing no emotion. Then everything went black and Kagome welcomed the comforting embrace.
