A Visit

A big thank you to my beta! Meg, you're awesome.

Chapter 7: A Visit

Sango’s head lolled against the wall as she let out a loud snore, the sound disrupting the peacefulness of the room. Her eyes snapped open when she felt the bed shift, “Kagome! Are you okay? Do you need water? How are you feeling?” her voice was laced with concern.

Kagome had uncrossed her legs and looked at Sango with bloodshot eyes, “Oh no Sango!” she cried.

“What?! What’s wrong?!” her tone frantic.

“I have a test today!” she cried as her eyes widened in realization. Sango looked around for a clock, 6:55 am. Argh!

Kagome got up and dug around the pile of books that were scattered on top of her desk. She paced around the room as if she was in a trance, hands fidgety, mumbling to herself. “I didn’t even study! I’m so gonna die!”

“Is that it ... Kagome?” her eyes cautious as she moved to sit on the edge of the bed.

“What do you mean is that it?!” she took a deep breath, “I. Have. A. Test. And it’s in one hour too!” she threw her hands up in the air, as she looked Sango dead in the eye. Before Sango could reply, Kagome resumed her pacing.

“How about I make us some coffee, and I’ll bus with you back to campus?” she slowly shifted across the bed and exited the room when she didn’t get a response.

. . .

“Why did you tell her?”

Sango almost jumped out of her skin when she heard Grandpa Higurashi’s voice come from behind her.

“Tell her what?”

“It was fate that she couldn’t regain her memory. Why must you force this on her?”

Sango didn’t know what to say. Her heart was pounding from the grim look plastered on his face. There was a long, uncomfortable silence before she heard soft footsteps padding away.

Sango sighed as made her way into the kitchen. She searched her pockets for her phone, instinctively she dialled Miroku’s number. She balanced the phone on her shoulder as she watched the coffee brew, pick up, pick up!

“Hey... Miroku? Hurry and call me back; Kagome is acting really weird. I don't think I can handle this myself!” she whispered to his voicemail.

. . .

“Alright Kagome, good luck on the test,” she wished warily as they approached her classroom. Kagome nodded mutely as she turned to leave, but not before Sango pulled her into a tight hug, “I’ll love you no matter what. Remember that,” she kissed her lightly on the forehead before turning to leave.

Kagome’s grip visibly tightened around her books.

. . .

Once Sango had dropped Kagome off, she made her way back to her dorm and dozed off.

Buzzzz buzzzz

Her phone shook beside her pillow, waking her up. Only an hour?!

“Hello?” Sango squinted from the bright lights she left on and pulled the covers over her head.

“Hi, Ms. Taijiya? This is Ms. Higurashi’s professor speaking. She did not attend class today and she missed a very important test. I was told to call you if I was not able to reach her.”

“You can’t reach her? She didn’t pick up her cell phone?” Instantly Sango sat up from under the covers, ignoring the pressure against her head.

“I have tried numerous times and failed. She is well aware that I do no tolerate skipping; please let her know she will get be receiving zero on this test.”

“No wait!” she pleaded, “She’s been having some family issues. I assure you it’s a one time thing. It will never happen again.”

“Please tell her for me. Have a good day.” Sango let out a frustrated groan when she heard the dial tone.
She pulled the covers off her, hair stuck to her face and stood up from the static. Suddenly the bright colors in her room did not look as cheerful.

. . .

Kagome ignored the continual vibrations from her purse as she stepped out of a yellow cab. The wind blew around her wildly as she looked up at a large sign. Heiwa Bouchi. Peace cemetery. It was deeply engraved in a bulky piece of stone, high above her head.

Kagome slowly began her way up the stone steps; the staircase seemed never ending as it trailed up a big hill. Rows of different shapes and sizes of tombstones were lined up perfectly on the dirt ground. The colors were bland, dark grey... light grey... steel grey... all except for the occasional bouquets of flowers she’d see when she walked by. It added nicely to the already depressing atmosphere. It didn’t help that the cemetery was eerie quite. All that could be heard was the small tap of her heels against the ground.

Finally, after at least 100 steps, and 10 tombstones to her right, she arrived at her destination. The wind lightly blew her hair as she stood in front of her parent’s tombstone. ‘Till death do us part was finely imprinted under their picture, it glittered from the gold filling.

Kagome swiftly dropped on her knees and slowly glided her fingertips around their faces. Her eyes were squeezed shut as her eyebrows furrowed in concentration. She shook her head from side to side as she carefully opened her eyes. “I can’t remember,” her voice stressed, “I really can’t remember.”

. . .

It has been exactly eight years. Eight years since his mother passed away.
Inuyasha knelt down on the ground and placed the bouquet of flowers in front of her gravestone. The most wonderful woman in the world was roughly engraved underneath her black and white photo. He did it himself. He didn’t have the money to get it engraved professionally, so long nights of bruised and blistered fingers had to do.

Shippo stood quietly next to him, hands clasped behind his back. He did not say a word the whole trip there; in fact, he never said anything since the day he was found. His name was all Inuyasha could squeeze out of him.

Inuyasha sighed, he figured it was time to go; they had been there for a relatively long time. He bowed three times and kissed his fingers softly before lightly touching the photo. I miss you

“C’mon little man, let’s go. I’m craving some good ramen,” he tried to lighten up the mood as he dragged Shippo along by his shoulders.

He stopped mid step when the smell of salt suddenly floated through the air, low murmuring can be heard in the background. “Who... am I?”

Odd. His eyes roamed the cemetery curiously and spotted a small figure knelt in front of a tombstone, just a couple rows up. He raised a finger to his lips, signalling Shippo to be quite as they walked up the steps.

. . .

“Who am I?” she whispered to herself. “What else are people hiding from me?” her hands pulled back from the photo and dropped in her lap. Her head bowed as she cupped her eyes, “Will I ever remember?” Tears formed and trailed down her face. She had so many questions, but she knew she would never get an honest answer. She was living a lie. “Who the hell is Kagome Higurashi!?” she cried out as she punched the dirt beside her. “Who did we hurt?” she asked as if her parents were in front of her. “How many lives did I ruin?” Will God ever forgive her? “Will I ever be able to forgive myself?” her voice was barely a whisper as her mind drifted to Inuyasha.

. . .

Inuyasha stood with his back behind a tree, his arms crossed as he leaned against it. My my, little miss spoiled Higurashi. His head was slightly tilted to the side as he eavesdropped. He almost scoffed when he heard her.

Yeah, he knew about her amnesia, Miroku had tried talking to him about it. Too bad Karma’s a bitch

He decided he had heard enough, and tugged at Shippo’s hand. Together they descended the stairs.

You will never forgive yourself as long as I’m around, as long as I never forgive you.

. . .

Sorry for the late post!.. and short chapter?
I know.. I know.. there’s no excuse. But school’s been dragging me back more than I thought. I’m usually exhausted by the end of the day. But I promise this story will be finished (I will never forgive myself if I don't...) In addition, I will definitely not leave this story ... un- updated for more than 2 weeks. I’m afraid you guy might forget me! D: LOL. Ohyeah.. I’ve been playing around with an idea for a new story (gosh, I’m putting more work on my hands than I can handle). I want a story that has a completely different atmosphere from my other ones. If everything works out, it will be called Florescence; here’s a ...sneak peak summary:

Kagome is a 22-year-old woman struggling to support her 4-year-old daughter. She dropped out of high school to open up a little flower store. She has never seen more than $500 after the purchase of the store. Money is very important her, but its one thing she never had.

A 29-year-old Inuyasha is married to a wealthy businesswoman, a heiress of her million dollar father. He has an impeccably intelligent wife, and can own anything he touches. Yet he is willing to give up a life of luxury for something more. But... what is better than money?

Will Kagome be desperate enough to push away her values and become a home wrecker? Will they be able to survive the evils of money or will one give up?

Iz-e-ma RR - I hope this chapter answered your question, thanks for reviewing! It really motivates me! : )

Ygfi – My last comment about men? I guess I should’ve put a question mark at the end. But I was more wondering than anything else. I’m sorry if that offended you. And maybe that isn’t just my forte, i’m sorry if you felt obligated or forced to review/help me out.

Selina MacCloverer - So which one deserves more pity?! : |. Ahaha, And yes, I found a good beta, from the looks of it. She beta-ed this chapter and hopefully all the other chapters that will follow. She’ll be awesome, I know it. I would love to be somebody's beta, but .. HM. I don’t think i’d do a very good job. Lol, thanks for reviewing again! I appreciate the support!

Lissa - It’s been a week, how’s your ankle? Ahah. I will definitely start practising... when the time comes for one.. AHAH. No i’m not just lazy.. it’s going to be a while before Inuyasha will even let her be a feet near him. .............. Or maybe not? HMMM... yu'll just have to seeeeeeee

Young Kagome - Thank you for dropping by! I’m glad you're enjoying this : D

I don’t know what else to say but I love y’all for the support!
