Guilt, birth and forgiveness

Chapter 7

The guilt had been building for months now, she knew that Inuyasha had to be told the father of the baby. Yet Kagome was unwilling to loose her best friend so she kept her silence. She was due any time now and kept to the village most of the time, but today she was on a mission. Kagome waddled out of the village in search of Inuyasha. She found him in a tree overlooking the village. He hopped down upon sighting her and began scolding her, “Gome, you know it’s not a great idea to walk this far when you are so close to your time!” Inuyasha had become the worst mother hen lately, but Kagome let him do it because he was so sweet in his care of her.

“I needed to tell you something and you’ll probably be angry so sit down with me.” Kagome took his hand and sank to a seated position, pulling him down with her. “I…it’s about the baby’s father.” Inuyasha’s rapt expression pressed her to go on. “He isn’t a human from my time…he is a demon from this one. ”

Inuyasha stood up angrily, “Who is the bastard? Why didn’t you tell me? I could have hunted down the son of a bitch who hurt you sooner, if you had told me that! I could have ripped his fu….”

“I wasn’t hurt!” Kagome insisted, “It was seduction and I wanted him at the time!”

“Kagome,” Inuyasha was serious now, “who was it?”

“Sesshomaru…” The name had barely left her lips when he growled angrily and turned to run into the forest. “Inuyasha!” she screamed as a pain ripped through her stomach. He turned in time to see his Kagome fall to her knees in agony. Forgetting all about the revenge he had been set on exacting, he turned and raced to Kagome’s side. “I need…. Kaede.” She panted.

“The baby?” He questioned. When she nodded a panicked Inuyasha picked her up and began to run for the village. Ducking into the hut he yelled for Kaede. She came over to Kagome’s side followed by Sango. “This be no place for a man.” Kaede scolded shooing Inuyasha and Miroku out.

Over the next twelve hours Inuyasha listened to the terrible shrieking and cursing thinking that he would much rather fight a thousand demons. When it seemed like it would go on forever, it suddenly stopped and an infants cry cut through the night. Relieved, he ran into the hut to see a small bundle in Kaede’s arms. Kagome screamed again, bringing his attention to her sweat soaked face.
“Ye shouldn’t be in here, Inuyasha, but since ye don’t listen. You can hold this one… It looks as if there be another waiting to come out.” The bundle was handed to him and the women turned their attention to the straining woman on the bed.

“Two of them?” Inuyasha questioned as he began to study the one he was holding. It was like looking into his past, the little boy looked exactly as he had as a infant. Golden eyes stared back at him and a small claw tipped hand grabbed onto Inuyasha’s finger. Small puppy ears wiggled in his shiny white hair. The only difference was two small magenta stripes on the left side of the boy’s face. Another moan came from Kagome on the bed as she pushed out the second small body. A lusty cry filled the room as the small little girl was wrapped up and given to her mother. Inuyasha sat down at Kagome’s bedside and handed her the boy.

“Surprised?” He asked her.

Kagome rolled her eyes at him, “Of course! I only thought there was going to be one.”

“What will you name them?” Sango piped in curiously.

“Daitaro.” Kagome replied softly kissing the little boy’s head, “and Eri.” She handed the newly named Eri to Inuyasha and he studied her. In this child he could see his brother. Small elfish ears peaked out among her silver hair and she had the same golden eyes as her brother. She had pale skin marred only by the magenta markings of her father. Inuyasha sighed in relief at the fact that there was no cresent moon on her forehead, but looking closer he found the small purple mark on her neck, behind her hair.

“I’m sorry Inuyasha.” He looked up to see Kagome’s face streaked with tears, “I should have told you.”
Sango and Kaede promptly exited the room, knowing they needed to talk.
“Ya you should have.” He growled at her and Kagome’s heart sank in her chest, “I kinda get why you didn’t, but Kagome?” She looked up at him hopefully , “ You’re still my best friend and these children are my niece and nephew. Even though I may hate my brother I still would be proud to help you raise them.”

“Thank you.” Kagome pulled Inuyasha to sit on the bed near her. Leaning against his shoulder she looked happily at Daitaro and Eri. “We’re all on big family now, Dysfunctional but still a family.” She smiled and yawned.

“Feh.” Inuyasha shrugged embarrassed. A Family, been a while since I had one of those. Stupid villagers must be cooking onions. he thought to himself as he blinked back tears.
