Here you have another chapter, I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it!
Chap 7 The new job
Sesshoumaru sat down on the sofa, waiting for Kagome to finish getting ready. She had left him to take a shower and get dressed twenty minutes ago. What was taking her so long? He could still hear the water running. He frowned, he hoped she didn’t slip and hit her head; his father and grandfather wouldn’t allow him live if she ever got injured. Damn pack!
He remembered a long time ago, when he was a young and restless power seeker, he left his family home to travel and gain strength and power. His actions had reached his father’s ears and thus the man had summoned his eldest son. Sesshoumaru remembered that day very clearly, how his father had looked at him with condescendence and told him, in a patronizing voice, what a foolish young pup he was. Sesshoumaru had reproached to him his recent weakness. How dared he call him weak when he had rutted with a human woman and sired an abomination they called a son!! Sesshoumaru snarled at his father, showing his blatant disrespect for the first time in his whole life, but the words of his father had haunted him forever. Do you have someone to protect?
Toga had attacked his son and had ended up severely wounding him. It took Sesshoumaru quite some time to recover from the injuries inflicted by his father, but they seemed to heal faster than the breach between them. It wasn’t until some years later, when his father faced Ryokotsusei and Sesshoumaru went to his aid that their relationship finally improved, the barrier that seemed to span between them, suddenly lifted. However, his father’s words continued to haunt him, it was like he was hearing them everywhere. Do you have someone to protect? Then he found Rin, or rather, Rin found him, wounded, lying on the forest ground. She had fearlessly approached him and with a gapped tooth smile and a hand on his forearm she had “healed” him. From that point on, she had followed him and they had created a bond strong enough to endure time, despite her death early in his lifetime, too early for him, but, sadly, not on a human scale.
As he was burying her old, decrepit body, frail and vulnerable as the day she was born, he swore he would never allow himself to get attached to another human being again. Rin had been a daughter to him, and he had been so proud of her as she grew up and had developed into a fine woman, the only one apt at warming his cold heart. She taught him how powerful love and trust could be, and their power was more devastating than a sword, and wounded you in ways a sword could not fathom. The truth of these words hit him full force as her body was lowered into the ground. As he watched, the wrinkles of her age slipped away, and she was once more, the same smile of her childhood positioned peacefully on her face, his little Rin. The pain was unforgettable, and even after all of these years, it still lingered close by, never completely leaving him in amity.
A soft sound brought him back from his musings. It sounded like a wail. He frowned and stood up. The sound was certainly coming from Kagome’s bathroom. He quietly opened the door and without getting inside, he tried to see if she was injured. He got his head fully in the bathroom, wary of the fact that she could still be indecent, yet annoyed that he was unable to see her and the water was still running. Had she fainted? He entered the room and reached the bathtub in time to see her huddled down on the floor in a ball, embracing herself and silently crying while the steaming water caressed the skin of her pale, exposed back.
He worriedly turned off the tap and softly covered her with a towel while calling her name, but she was decidedly unresponsive. “Kagome, you should get out of there and dry off. I know what…” She turned around and embraced him before he could finish offering the only words of comfort he knew.
He tried to think of other things rather than a young, wet and naked female embracing his person, but the fact that he hadn’t been laid in decades and her wonderful smell made that near impossible. However, her soft cries made it easier for him and the soft part of him that had been dormant for centuries, since Rin’s death, resurfaced as he began to stroke her wet hair to calm her down. When her cries ebbed away to slow, racking sobs she began to speak.
“What’s wrong with me, Sesshoumaru? Why did that awful man do something like that to me? I never gave him the hint I wanted something with him! All I wanted was to do my job and to do it the best way possible. I’ve never even wished for any type of sexual relationship with any of my male companions or clients, what made him think I was that type of person?” As she kept talking, she kept getting more and more enraged. She stood up in the middle of her aggravated speech while the towel slid down her body landing on the floor in a soft, solid puddle, shouting her offence to whomever would stay long enough to listen. She stood there in all her glory, her nipples, in the meantime, were saying hi to Sesshoumaru. He shook that enticing image from his mind and thought that he preferred that feisty woman rather than the sobbing one.
He finally convinced her to get dressed and he began to think of a way to avenge her offence. He sighed; he was beginning to get a hint of what was coming. Having her so close to him, naked and clean made him notice a scent he didn’t catch when he rescued her from Naraku, his vulgar scent overpowering the calming scent she released. She was pure, and most likely a virgin. Not that virgins smelled differently; the only reason he believes so was because she didn’t have a male’s smell on her. He also noted she had a pure heart, and he assumed she was virgin by what he had stated in her heated speech. He had been wrong about her, and his grandfather was going to make him pay for that. To make matters worse, his inu was beginning to get attached to the girl; it wanted to protect her purity. He felt a massive headache beginning to build at the back of his head again!
She emerged from her room dressed and ready for work. She glanced at Sesshoumaru with undisguised embarrassment; she was sorry for her little previous display. “Sorry for using you as my crying pillow!” He looked at her intently, and she blushed an even deeper shade of red; she had forgotten how intense his golden eyes could be. On the other hand, they weren’t hard anymore, yet, instead, they were softer than she remembered from ever seeing them before. She tried to break the intensity of the moment. “I packed some of my clothes, so I won’t have to come back anytime soon.” “Hn.” She rolled her eyes.
She grabbed her house keys and her luggage as they both exited the apartment.

The elevator doors opened revealing two figures; one was very lean and tall with long hair and the other was much more petite, but laden with curves. The lights of the corridors exposed who they were, and all the employees straightened up and jumped right back into their work. Their employer had arrived.
Sesshoumaru showed Kagome around the office, introducing her to everyone. Finally, he showed her to her own personal office. On the left side of her office, the door led to Sesshoumaru’s office and the door on the right of her office, led to the attorney of the company, who was out at the moment. These were the only three private offices; the rest of the floor had a scattered arrangement of desks and cubicles spanned out symmetrically for the secretaries.
“Make yourself comfortable, Kagome; you have all the files concerning the company’s business. Whenever you are ready we can have a meeting with the attorney and discuss the way to deal with things from now on.” Sesshoumaru offered as Kagome took in the contents of her office.
“Okay, I’ll take a look at all the files and let you know when I’m ready.” The man nodded and turned around to leave when a sound made him twist his head back around to look questioningly at Kagome. “Sesshoumaru…” The woman before him was fidgeting uncomfortably, “I don’t think I’ve thanked you properly.” The man began to protest, but Kagome interrupted him with a raise of her hand. “Please, just let me do it. It will make me feel better.” She inhaled, “Sesshoumaru, thank you for saving me from being raped by Naraku and for comforting me this morning. You have been a very nice person and I would like to apologize.”
The silver haired man raised an eyebrow but made no sound while the young woman averted her gaze from his “When I first met you I thought you were a heartless cold fish, but you proved me wrong today. Now, I think you are very sweet.” Sesshoumaru rolled his eyes once more. Just what he needed, this woman would be his demise. He needed to get that stupid idea out of her head. “Woman, you try my patience. This Sesshoumaru is no…” She interrupted him shaking aforementioned hand inches before his face. “Nonsense.” She replied before she hugged him fiercely. “You proved how sweet you can be this morning.” She finished before she kissed him on the cheek. He stiffened at the sudden intrusion of his person. No one had showed him such affection in centuries; again, memories of Rin flooded his mind.
He quickly removed her from him and turned around to leave the room. He hastily entered his office, paced back and forth for a while. Why was he remembering Rin all of a sudden? She had died 500 years ago. She had been like a daughter, and when she died he mourned over the loss of her for a very long time. He swore no one else would ever get so close to his heart again, and he had succeeded so far, so what was wrong with him now? Why did this girl bring back all those memories of Rin?
Had she cursed them all? His father and grandfather had already fallen for her. Hadn’t they admitted openly that they had adopted her as family? Well, what he felt right now was nothing meditation couldn’t take care of. Some exercises would sure make him return to his own self. Tonight he would take up training and meditation again; he had neglected both exercises for some time now; although, they had helped him overcome Rin’s death. Well, he would use the same method to keep this woman, Kagome, at arm’s length.
He frowned in afterthought. Could it be that he had been correct in first assuming that she was an easy woman? Could she really have fooled them that easily? Even he, who suspected her from the beginning, had succumbed way too easily for comfort to her charms. He was furious! He even let her kiss him. He rubbed his cheek with the back of his hand as if with that simple repetitive action he could erase it from his memory.
He turned around and resumed his pacing. Who was he fooling? All that just happened was his fault; he had let her get too close to him. He just had to be careful and not allow her get too close to him again; if she wasn’t given the chance, he couldn’t fall into her trap. He was proud to remain single; the fact that he was waiting for the right mate to come along brought privy to the thought that he had already wasted too much time playing around. Perhaps he should consider accepting his father’s advice and going to the marriage arranger, a woman who arranged marriages for youkai.
With that in mind, he situated himself behind his desk and began to work. He had many papers to revise and he knew he would have a massive amount of e-mails to check.

“How does this stupid machine work?” The black haired woman, brow furrowed in concentration and anger, kicked the “stupid” copy machine in an attempt to make her point. “Ouch!! Stupid machine, you broke my toe!!” A chuckle made her turn around with a frown, a scowl already in place for whoever deemed it smart to laugh at her, as well as a few words, but the words froze in her throat, near making past that junction of her anatomy.
“Koga!” Her eyes lit up in recognition of her ex-boyfriend, but nonetheless, good friend. She hugged him fiercely.
“Kagome, you haven’t changed at all. You are just as charming as usual.” And to support his words, he kissed the woman in his arms.
A gasp was heard and the couple moved away from each other. Kagome blushed when she saw Sesshoumaru watching them intently.
“Koga!” Sesshoumaru never averted his gaze from a blushing Kagome. “I believe you have met our new public relations representative, Kagome Higurashi.”
Koga looked astonished and delighted at the same time. “Kagome is working with us?” The girl nodded, still aware of Sesshoumaru’s intense gaze on her neck. Koga seemed oblivious to what was happening, he never noticed Sesshoumaru’s burning gaze on his friend, or the tight hold of the papers he had in his grasp he was intent on giving to his secretary.
“Sesshoumaru, you will never regret hiring her! We studied together in college, and she was one of the best students. She is also a very loyal person.” He put an arm around her shoulders and hugged her slightly. “I loved her dearly. Too bad my old man had already betrothed me to Ayame, because I intended to make her my mate.” His adoring gaze on her melted her heart and she found it impossible to scold his friend for embarrassing her before her new boss. She just returned the affectionate gaze and squeezed his arm.
Sesshoumaru’s frown got deepened as he cleared his throat. “Miss Higurashi, Mr. Ookami is our attorney. If you have any difficulties with legal subjects don’t hesitate to ask him. Now, if you will excuse me…” He turned around to leave. “By the way, Ookami, when you are done with her come to my office.” He entered his office and shut the door.
Kagome felt her face turn red. The nerve of him! Did he just imply that Koga and her where doing something improper? Did the guy have no heart at all? No one ever showed him that some affection between good friends was nothing remotely similar to hard sex?
Ignoring Kagome’s dark demeanour as she stared angrily at the now-closed door, her small mouth tugged down in a disapproving smile, Koga led Kagome to his office, almost dragging her the whole way. He was so proud of his job that Kagome soon forgot her indignation and was laughing with him as they remembered the old times.
“We should go for lunch some time and catch up. It’s been so long since I last saw you Kagome.” Kagome blushed under his intense gaze. They never dated too long; he soon broke up with her because he knew he couldn’t avoid his fate. He was betrothed to Ayame long before he met Kagome. Although he loved the ningen dearly, he knew if he disobeyed his family and mated her she would have a very hard life; he just couldn’t find it in his heart to do that to his beloved Kagome.
