Resignation and Determination
Chapter 7
Finally, after what seemed like forever, they arrived back at the village, hardly any worse for the wear. With the exception, that is, of poor Kagome, who was still wrapped in the monk's robes and carried by Inuyasha, the hanyou watching over her like any faithful puppy would.
Initially, she had been carried by Miroku on the back of Kilala, however as soon as Inuyasha had regained consciousness, Sango had insisted on him carrying Kagome, not wanting to be near the person that she thought was responsible for slaying her younger brother.
Inuyasha laid Kagome down into the hutt, to rest, before seeking Sango out. He needed to talk to her. When Kagome came awake, she would need a female's help on what she had went through, and although she may have killed her brother, Sango was the closest person to Kagome.
"Hey, Sango..." began Inuyasha as he approached the tajiya, who was sitting near the edge of the rice paddies.
"Not now, Inuyasha. I don't want to talk right now." Sango said in response, turning her head so she wouldn't have to look at him.
"No, it has to be now. Look, I know how much your bother meant to you and all, but he still...raped Kagome. I mean, c'mon, it's not like she meant to kill him, it was probably just in self defense." said Inuyasha.
"He has a point you know. After all, it was Kagome who prevented you from killing Kohaku when he tried to murder her." added Miroku, joining the conversation.
"I know, I know, but still...." started Sango, who was cut off by Inuyasha.
"Look, the point is, god only knows what Kagome went through while in Naraku's clutches. When she wakes up, she'll need someone to talk to, to comfort her, just as she's been there for us with our problems. And in all likeliness, it'll be you whom she wants to talk to." said Inuyasha, his eyes melting as he was on the verge of a breakdown. The smells that he had encountered within the castle....
"You....want me to comfort her?" asked Sango, almost incredously.
"I know it must be difficult to look past her being his killer, but we can't just abandon Kagome." added Miroku.
"I...I don't know..." muttered Sango. She know now that she would do it, but she was exactly sympathyzing with Kagome at the moment. How she was going to comfort her, she had no idea.

Unknown to the group, Kagome had come awake soon after Inuyasha had set her down, and had listened to the entire conversation.
With tears running down her cheeks, she returned to the mat and lay down again.
'Sango, Inuyasha, Miroku, they all believe that I killed Kohaku. How could they believe Naraku instead of me, don't they trust me?' she thought to herself as sobs began wracking her body.
'There's only one thing I can do now...' she thought to herself, resigning herself to accomplishing it herself, even if it meant her death....
