Chapter 7
With Words Comes an Angry Fist

“Kagome…!” Kikyo cried. “…Kagome!” she yelled louder, as she ran after Kagome, tightly holding the emerald gown in her right arm.

Kagome paused and cringed hearing her name called by the high pitch voice. Kikyo sounded like a dying chicken, Kagome thought with disarray. Not that she cared, well she did. She was still chilled and tried to cover herself several times. The riders where still a distance away, but were approaching quickly. Therefore, she turned addressing the servant girl. “Well!” she yelled. “It sure did take you long enough.”

Kikyo bowed, “I’m sorry miss.”

Kagome was seething with anger, “Forget it!” she snapped grabbing the article of clothing out of her hands. “Just help me get dressed!”

“Come…” Kikyo said, as she led Kagome. Kikyo could see the look of confusion on Kagome’s face and rolled her eyes. “You wish to undress here with riders quickly approaching!”

“No, of course not,” Kagome responded softly. Therefore, she followed the servant girl into the forest. The large trees and dense vegetation would offer her some privacy.

Kagome sighed and untied the knot around her neck, as the cloak fell to the ground. Kikyo scowled when she saw Inuyasha’s cloak. She felt a tang of jealously, this girl needed to leave soon, or she would surly spoil her plans of becoming the next Queen of England.

“Bend down some,” Kikyo hissed, while scrunching up the fabric. She huffed when she saw Kagome just bending down. “Please tell me you do know how to dress?”

“What the hell is that suppose to mean Kikyo?” Kagome tried to bite her tongue. It wouldn’t be in her best interest to punch the snobbish girl, who wasn’t that much older than her. How was she supposed to explain that she did not come from this era? That she was from the future where clothes looked and were much easier to put on, or take off. “I’ve never worn a dress of this statue before, so, no I wouldn’t know…would I?” Kagome couldn’t help the sassiness undertone.

Kikyo huffed, as she peaked around the tree. The riders still have not passed them. She would be mortified, if they caught, Kagome with a vulnerable situation. Kikyo didn’t want that to happen, for she would surly feel the wrath of the prince she so loved. She narrowed her eyes evilly at Kagome, “Well one would start by raising her arms.”

Kagome held her tongue, but didn’t hold back her angry expressions at the girl. Some servant she is, she thought. Nonetheless, she complied and raised her arms over her head. Kagome could feel the soft satin dress glide gently over her body.

The dress was amazing and form fitting, the long sleeves ended with a stylish point on top of the hand with a loop to go over the second finger. Kagome looked down admiring the embroidered gold ribbon trimmed around the neckline. The dress was amazing and remembered seeing old paintings back at the art museum, back home. Ladies wore outfits like these when they went to the courts, she mused. However, her thoughts soon interrupted when she felt her abdomen squeezed to the point where she could not breathe.

“Not so tight…damn!” Kagome hissed while bracing herself against the bark of a tree.

Kikyo enjoyed tying the back of the bodice. The leather straps held tightly as she continued lacing up the back of the dress. If she couldn’t actually hurt her, she would harm her in other ways. Every woman hated the lace. Therefore, Kagome would sound like a whiny woman…and not a Lady of the Court.

Kagome couldn’t breathe, but she couldn’t help but admire the dress, as the V-waist bodice emphasized her figure. Although she didn’t know how she would survive the walk back to the palace without passing out. Kagome was sure that the servant wench tied the lacing tightly on purpose. “Could you loosen this please,” Kagome said trying to suck the air into her lungs. She must have sounded like a dying frog.

“Surly you don’t mean that!” Kikyo said with a venomous undertone. “I personally don’t think it’s tight enough.”

Kagome grabbed her stomach, as she desperately tried to take in deep breath. “You cannot be serious!”

“Oh, but miss I am!” Kikyo snickered. She loved this. This was better than any other plot she thought up and she could act innocent in the matter, if questioned. Crouching down she picked up the prince’s cape and dusted it off. The nerve of her, she thought, as she folded the garment over her arm. She turned her attention back to Kagome. “Come, we need to hurry back to the Castle. I am surprised the prince didn’t send a search party after you…you being his guest and all.”

“What! Now you want me to fucking walk back to the castle. Let the arrogant prince send his search party. I’m not going anywhere!” How could she? Kagome thought if she made it two steps, then she would either die or pass out from asphyxiation.

Kikyo shook her head in disgust, “A lady never uses such vulgar language!”

“And, I’m not a fucking lady am I?” Kagome retorted, bracing herself up against the thick gray and black trunk of the Ash. “Tell me Kikyo? With you being a servant of the palace. Where did you get this dress—or should I say who did you steal it from?”

Kikyo looked like she was slapped in the face. “I didn’t steal the dress…you wretched woman! That very dress was a gift from Ayame. She was a lady-in-waiting. When she wed, she gave it to me. I thought I was being nice, so I decided to lend it to you. However, I see I have mistakenly given it to a dolt; who doesn’t even deserve to wear it?”

“Why you…” Kagome had finally snapped, without even realizing she had clenched her fist tightly and punched Kikyo in between her eyes— square in the nose. She was sure she had broken it, as she watched the blood ooze from her pointy snout. She gasped; she could not believe that she actually decked her. She watched helplessly as Kikyo fell to the ground with a sounding thud.

Kagome couldn’t help but chuckle, it was the first time she ever hit anyone, and watching the Kikyo’s feet rise over her head, was the funniest thing she ever did see. Walking over the unconscious girl, she could hear the riders approaching quickly. She wasn’t sure who they were, or if she could trust them, but she had to try. There was no way she would make it back to the castle walking.

Taking what little breath she could muster. She held bravado as she walked out from the forest and began flagging the riders down, as she raised her arms in the air, waving for them to stop.

“Where is she?” Inuyasha snapped, as he punched the table. His brother already left to attend a social political meeting. Inuyasha was getting impatient. He couldn’t understand what was taking them so long. Unfortunately, he had to return to the castle and didn’t need the kingdom in a panic again, when they found him missing.

The ears on top of his head twitched, he was defiantly agitated. Pushing his wooden chair back, he would go and find her. Then give her a proper scolding for disobeying him. She was supposed to return to the palace. He sniffed the air; Kikyo wasn’t in the palace either. He knew he should have stayed with her.

Jumping over the long rectangular wooden table, he ran towards the two large doors. Pushing them open, he could see two of the Royal Guards, as they continued their daily duties—which included not letting anyone inside the dining hall. Approaching, one of the guards, he said in a stern voice. “Go and tell the King that I’ll return shortly.”

“Yes your Majesty.” The guardsman replied, as he gave a quick bow and proceeded down the long corridor the opposite way the prince headed.

“Aw—look my dear Sango, a damsel in distress.” Miroku laughed, watching the jealousy contort around her beautiful face. Smiling, as he loved her reaction. To him she was a goddess and feeling her wrath was a joyous pleasure, so he continued. “And a beautiful one if I do say so myself.”

However, Miroku was displeased when she did not respond. Although she didn’t act as he expected, her silence was all the evidence he needed. He of course would have preferred the snide remarks like, “Miroku, you’re such a Letcher!” or, “Don’t you dare follow me home!” Even those remarks she so freely spoke would have sufficed. Even if she hit him over the head with her fist was something—but the eerie silence haunted him and her expression remained, in addition, it scared the shit out of him.

Sango couldn’t believe he was actually trying to pick up another woman, after the night she had. The images from last night repeated in her mind like a mantra—never in her life had she let the spoils of war plague her thoughts. It still haunted her, the victims of this hapless crime.

Sango steeled herself. The tears that so badly wanted to free from her glossed cover eyes—she would not let escape. Not in front of her love, not in front of herself.

Not even the death of Kaede, consumed her with this much grief. Yes, she felt saddened by the death of her friend, but seeing children so mauled to the point of unrecognizable stature, left her in such a catatonic state.

Sango loved children they were her life. She tried many times to become pregnant with Miroku’s child. Unfortunately, she could not—she was barren, and could never conceive.

Sango did care that Miroku was flirting again, yet even though she felt jealous, it didn’t matter. She just wanted to go back to the palace and run in her room. She knew she couldn’t do that, the vile misdeed needed to be reported. Glancing over at Miroku, she finally found her exhausted voice. “I’ll see you back at the palace.” She didn’t feel like watching her love ask this woman if she would bare his child, since Sango herself could not.

Miroku knew something was amiss; this wasn’t about his daily flirtations. This went deeper. He gazed at her with concern eyes. “Now Sango, we cannot just ride past this woman. She could very well be endangered and that is our job as knights, to assist civilians as well as the Kingdom.”

Sango gripped her reins tighter, “You don’t think I know what my job is Miroku!”

“Of course I do…love.”

“Then you go and rescue her…I’ll be back at the palace awaiting your return.” Sango didn’t give Miroku time to protest when she took off once again.

Miroku shook his head, as he watched her leave. He wanted to follow behind Sango, but there was still the question of helping the girl out. He would discuss the matter at hand, in a more private setting.

Kagome sidestepped quickly avoiding the angry hooves, from the horse that just tore past her. The rider was so fast, that it was a blur to her. How rude, she thought. She looked over at the other rider approaching at a much slower pace.

Hope gleamed into her hazel eyes. She began her slow trek towards what she could see a young handsome man. She noticed a crest on the front of the riders shield. The crest was identical to the princes. In addition, he wore armor, who was he. Whoever he was, she didn’t care. He was not an enemy. She watched as he dismounted. Moreover, he gripped the hilt of his saber tightly next to him. As if, she was in danger.

Miroku couldn’t sense anything awry. He could not help but stare at her bewitching beauty before him. “Milady, are you in danger? Did your carriage break down?” he asked, while grabbing her hands as he softly caressed her.

Kagome’s eyes widened when he asked her a plethora of questions, not only that but he was touching her. She didn’t know what to say. She did not have a carriage and the only one who was really in danger was Kikyo who still lay unconscious behind a thick shrub.

Miroku took her silence strongly, as he pulled her closer now hugging her. “You poor thing…you must be traumatized! Are you hurt?”

A large growl was heard behind her. “If you value your life Miroku… you will step away!”

“Prince Inuyasha,” Miroku said shakily, as he stepped away from the damsel in distress and bowed respectfully to the prince. “I’m sorry your highness I was merely trying to help.”

Kagome froze hearing his menacing growl. She had in mind to let him have it for leaving her with such a dense servant. However, as she turned around facing him she could see the anger suddenly leave his eyes and was replaced with a hungry lust. She bowed, “Your Highness, I see you sent a search party after me.”

Inuyasha chuckled; he drooled seeing her in the formal clothing of his time. “Sorry to disappoint you…I’m the only party you need.” He said nonchalantly as he took more of her radiance in. She was breathtaking; the emerald in her dress enhanced her eyes. Shaking his thoughts of desire away, he looked around. “Where is the servant Kikyo?”

Kagome gulped, and then looked over at the knight Miroku. She hoped he would interrupt and change the subject. Nevertheless, she new that wouldn’t be the case. Kagome was about to answer, that is until they heard a slight moaning sound, coming from the woods behind them. Her heart sunk, she was in for it now. “Inuyasha…” she called out softly. However, the heat in his eyes was fierce; she could only hope that she wasn’t going to be punished.

Miroku looked at the girl oddly, “Stay here.” He demanded as he followed Inuyasha.

Kagome nodded, she could literally feel her heart in her throat. She knew times were different, but she couldn’t help but feel bad for punching the servant. Aw whom was she kidding, she loved every second of it.

The men looked down at the groaning servant, her nose swollen, and there was dried blood around her face. In addition, she sported two black eyes. Inuyasha’s eyes widened with anger, “Who did this to you?”

Kikyo opened her eyes; she could see Inuyasha and Miroku standing idly over her. She winced in pain as she tried attempting rubbing her nose, tears suddenly brimmed her eyes.

Inuyasha helped her sit up, and repeated his question. “Answer me! Who did this to you?”

“Miss Kagome did this to me sire.”

Inuyasha lifted her up. Glancing over at Miroku, he shook his head. “Go and take Kagome back to the palace, I will deal with her later. I will carry Kikyo.”

“Yes your majesty.” Miroku watched as Inuyasha, ran back to the palace. He shook his head negatively at his unyielding protection to protect that wench. He was actually grateful that the witch was hurt. Smiling he returned to where Kagome was still standing. He could see the hurt evident in her eyes. She must have seen the prince run off with the servant tightly in his arms.

“Lady Kagome, I presume.” Miroku stated, “I am Miroku a knight at the royal palace. The prince instructed that I bring you back to the Castle.”

“What?” Kagome said softly. “I thought…”

Miroku chuckled, “the prince isn’t pleased that you walloped that servant girl. Now me, I think she might have provoked you.” Miroku grabbed her arm gently as he led her to his mount. “However, it went down…I think it’s the best news I’ve heard all day.”

Kagome smiled softly, trying not to let the pain of the sudden departure of the prince. She didn’t want to admit, but he was slowly growing on her, and it surprised her how happy she was when he did show up. Now the question was how in the hell was she suppose to get on a horse? She was afraid that her dress would split at the seam, from the mere tightness of the attire.

Kagome lifted her dress, trying to place her barefoot into the stirrup. Her face was red with embarrassment, having a hard time, trying to lift herself onto the horse. She was relieved when Miroku grabbed her arm, lifting her up in front of him. She could see his lecherous smile, as they took off towards the palace.
