Chapter 7
DISCLAIMER: I don’t own any of the characters or anything that has to do with the Inuyasha series. They all belong to Rumiko Takahashi (I bow before your greatness)
AN: Thank you to all who have been so kind to comment about my story. I think you know who you are. It does my heart good to know that even one person enjoys my writing. It is my hope to bring out the reality of each character’s personality while showing a very realistic scenario at the same time. To be honest some of the scenes are things I have seen happen to people I know. I won’t indulge which ones but the situation fit into this so well I couldn’t resist. Well on with the story
Chapter 7
Inuyasha stormed from the dark room leaving an angry Kikyo behind him. He didn’t know who to be more angry with. Her because she pulled him away from a very sexy lustful dance to talk to him about her damn car or himself for leaving Kagome alone with that asshole, Naraku. Sure he noticed the way Naraku looked at Kagome. He wasn’t stupid by any means. To top it off, Naraku was way to eager for Kikyo to take him away for him not to become suspicious. Kikyo even tried to seduce him to keep him from leaving but all he could think about was the crest fallen look on Kagome’s face when he allowed Kikyo to pull him away. Then her beautiful eyes watched after them as they walked away with betrayal shining from their depths. That look was burned into his mind for eternity. ‘Why had she looked at him like that? They were just room mates after all right?’ He thought to himself as he eyed the crowded dance floor looking for the woman who was driving his loins crazy just thinking about her.
After a couple of songs he still didn’t find either her or Naraku. He was beginning to become worried. ‘What if something happened to her?’ He thought at first but then he remembered seeing the two begin dancing as he left. Kagome didn’t seem to be pushing the jerk away. ‘Maybe she decided to go for it and fuck the ass hole?’ The image of the two in a passionate embrace filled his mind making the anger build again. He had to question if Kagome would betray him like Kikyo did so many years ago. The image of her fearful eyes came back into his mind with a vengeance and he knew this line of thinking was all wrong. ‘That was not Kagome. She wasn’t a whore like Kikyo.’ He smiled at that thought. Before he met Kagome, he thought Kikyo was the purist girl he ever met. Man was he wrong about her. Not only in the past but in the present too.
Finally his golden gaze fell on Miroku standing up at the bar talking to a pretty blonde waitress. His eyes looked up and down the bar but didn’t see Sango. He hoped that Kagome was with Sango and Miroku would know where Sango was. With that in mind he walked quickly over and tapped Miroku on the shoulder. The dark haired man turned around and looked at him as if he was seeing a ghost. “You seen Kagome?” Inuyasha asked quickly feeling anxious not knowing where she was. Miroku raised a dark eyebrow looking at him speculatively.
“You’re worried about her now?” He leaned against the bar and sipped his beer slowly as he watched Inuyasha for his reaction.
“What the hell do you mean? Hell yes I’m worried about her.” Inuyasha said defensively.
“Funny, I wouldn’t think so after you left her in the clutches of that bastard so you could go pork Kikyo.” Miroku looked down at his beer bottle then back up at Inuyasha with a frown.
“I didn’t...” Inuyasha began but Miroku held up his hand.
“He was taking her up to his office.” Miroku’s blue eyes glared at him spitefully. Inuyasha’s eyes grew wide.
“Shit, we have to hurry. You take the goon on the left and I’ll get....” Inuyasha began as he took a step toward the stair but Miroku stopped him by placing his hand in the middle of his chest.
“Don’t worry about it. It’s too late already.” Miroku said disgusted. Inuyasha’s head whipped toward him. Miroku could see the fire of anger begin to burn with in his golden depths.
“That son of a bitch.” Inuyasha spit out hotly. “I’ll kill him.” His fists clenched into tight balls at his sides.
“Like I said. It’s too late to worry about it. Whether Naraku did anything or not. You can’t change the fact that you left her with him long enough that he’s had plenty of time to do what every he wanted. Shit she could be in a dumpster in the alley by now.” Miroku took a long drink of his beer but kept his eyes on Inuyasha’s bent head. “And you did it all because of that bitch who betrayed you five years ago. Did it ever occur to you that Kikyo was doing what Naraku wanted because he wanted to get his hands on Kagome?” Inuyasha closed his eyes. He did know that Naraku wanted Kagome. It was more then evident when the couple approached them on the dance floor and yet he did nothing to protect her. Miroku watched with satisfaction as the gray shade of guilt flowed over his friend’s face at an alarming rate as his words sank in. “When are you fucking going to learn? That bitchy whore will never be the girl you thought you loved back in school.” Miroku hissed lowly scolding him like a disobedient child. After several long moments Inuyasha raised his head to look straight ahead of him.
“So where is she?” He asked calmly without looking at Miroku knowing he knew where to find Kagome.
“At Sango’s.” Miroku drank the last swallow of his beer then set it down on the bar.
“Did...did he hurt her?” Inuyasha managed to get out without choking on the guilt that crawled up from the bowels of his stomach at the thought of Naraku even putting a finger on sweet little Kagome.
“Sango stopped him before he reached the stairs but he scared the hell out of her. Kagome was petrified when Sango left with her.” Miroku grabbed his jacket from the stool he was setting on and headed for the door not waiting for Inuyasha to follow. At the moment he really didn’t care. Silence surrounded them as they drove to Sango’s in Kagome’s car. Inuyasha gripped the steering wheel so tightly that Miroku thought he would pull it apart at any moment. Finally they pulled into the parking space in front of Sango’s small coffee shop so they could access the stairs that led to her apartment upstairs. Inuyasha took the stairs two at a time reaching the door with in seconds of leaving the car. He pounded on the door harshly until a sleepy eyed Sango answered.
As soon as she opened the door and saw him she tried to shut it. He stuck his boot in forcing it open enough until he had it open almost a foot but Sango was stronger then she looked and he couldn’t get it open any more. “Go away. Don’t you think you’ve done enough damage tonight?” She snarled as she shoved on the door using all her weight.
“Sango, please let me see her. Just for a minute. I didn’t mean for anything to happen.” Inuyasha protested holding his ground but refraining from pushing with all his strength afraid of hurting her.
“No!” She snapped back. “She’s better off with out you.” Sango growled. Inuyasha looked at her with sad eyes.
“You’re right.” He said lowly. “But I can’t...” He started until a soft voice from inside called his name.
“Inuyasha?” Kagome stepped into the living room just beyond Sango looking in his direction. “Why are you here?” Her puffy eyes were shimmering with unshed tears while her small fingers twisted together nervously. The sight of her standing there in that tank top and hip hugging pajamas was enticing but the look on her face broke his heart.
“Sango please let me in.” Inuyasha looked down at Sango pleadingly.
“Sango please let him in.” Kagome asked in a shaky voice. Sango looked back at Kagome’s pathetic look then snorted and let go of the door stepping out of the way just as Inuyasha dashed past her taking Kagome into his arms. He couldn’t help feeling a rush of relief holding her tightly against him.
“Are you ok? When Miroku told me what that jerk tried, I wanted to beat the hell out of him.” He buried his nose in her hair breathing in her distinctive scent.
“I’m ok, really.” Kagome wrapped her arms tightly around his neck. A shiver ran through her as her body absorbed the strength he offered. “But why aren’t you with Kikyo?” She said shakily hating the fact she was so weak in front of him. “You shouldn’t be worrying about me.” She whimpered hating herself for feeling happy that he came to her when he really wanted to be with the woman he loved.
“Yeah why aren’t you with Kikyo?” Sango’s angry voice said from behind him. They both looked over at her angry stance as she glared daggers at Inuyasha.
“Come on.” Kagome said taking his hand and leading him to the guest room where she had been put for the night.
“Kagome you shouldn’t be alone with him.” Sango started to follow but Miroku stepped in the door and stopped her.
“They have to work this out themselves no matter how angry we are.” He told her and let the couple disappear behind the closed door.
“Maybe, but I don’t have to like it.” Sango glared at the closed door with her arms crossed over her chest.
“No you don’t.” Miroku smiled and wrapped an arm over her shoulder. Sango looked at him with a blush. “You got any coffee?” He smirked liking the way her blush turned even a darker shade of pink.
“Well yeah, there is a coffee shop below us.” She said sarcastically making him laugh. She smiled and went into the kitchen to make some coffee for him.

Kagome led Inuyasha over to the bed and let go of his hand as she turned away from him. For some odd reason he felt like a high school kid who was in his girl friend’s room for the first time as he looked anywhere but into her eyes. He watched her from the corner of his eye as she walked over to the dresser and picked up the bracelet he bought for her in Nevada when they were on their way to California. It made him smile to think of that time. It seemed like a whole life time ago now. Several moments passed with out either talking. The air was stifling around him but he couldn’t find the right words. “I remember you said that I should never take this off because it would be bad luck.” She said suddenly catching him off guard.
“Yeah well I didn’t know what I was talking about.” He stepped up behind her placing his hands on the dresser on either side of her trapping her into place. She turned around looking up at him with innocent eyes.
“You didn’t answer me.” She searched his eyes for an answer he didn’t know if he could tell her.
“I was worried about you and you never answered my question.” He said leaning in a little closer but she turned her face biting her lip. “Kagome, don’t turn from me.” He lifted her chin with his fingers and gently sucked on the lip she was chewing on. Slowly she pulled away from him as pain filled her eyes.
“No...j...just scared me a little.” She confessed closing her eyes to block out the feelings Naraku invoked in her. “He reminded me of some of the men who used to come into the bar where we met. He was pretty intense.” She looked down fighting the images left in her mind of Naraku’s predatory eyes. Inuyasha pulled her close and kissed the top of her head.
“I’m sorry. I never...” He held her close knowing there was little he could say to make her feel better.
“I know. You shouldn’t have to worry about me when you’re with Kikyo. I’m sorry to make you worry because I’m so weak.” She whimpered and buried her face in his chest. He held her closer as the damn that was holding back her tears broke.
“No, you’re not. It was my fault. I know what a creep he can be.” Inuyasha held her as close as he could with out hurting her. His own feelings over powering him to a point of breaking. “I promised to take care of you and I let you down.” He sighed heavily. Slowly he walked them over to the bed and coaxed her to lay down. He pulled her close to him and lifted the quilt up over both of them holding her until she fell asleep. His mind kept him awake for a long time since he couldn’t stop thinking about what Sango had said earlier. There was only one thing he could do to keep from hurting her anymore then he already did. He had to let her go.
