Chapter 6 - Tetsusaiga, The Phantom Sword, The Human Protector


Inuyasha’s mother turned around and took a step back and we turned to her as she gazed sadly at us. “Inuyasha, Shade, I must return now to the neverworld.” My eyes widened as I swallowed accidentally moving back in to Inuyasha who grabbed my arm his fists tense. “But do you have to?” I nodded my head at this question as I watched her with sad eyes trying not to cry as we watched her cup her hands and summon a flower with her powers.


“The petals. Look in to the water.” I looked over my shoulder at Inuyasha in question and he nodded his head as he let me go. We both walked over to the water and I kneeled on the ground as I looked suddenly the water rippled and showed images that set two sets of emotions of, one was disbelief that the images could be true and the other was shock at memories that he could not remember.


In the water it showed a ball bouncing across a stone bridge to stop on a pathway connected to the bridge, coming after the ball was a child in red and a little behind was another who was younger that had stopped at the end of the bridge watching the red clad child with ears up high. Then as the red clothed child with dog-ears picked up the ball the others attention was diverted to its left as it looked at the black haired woman smiling slightly at the two of us.


The other then began to run over to her at the same time and they both ran in to her arms as she enfolded them in her protective hold. “That’s me.” I was shocked that the other looked so much like I did but younger. “Back when I was still small.” The image then changed to show the young Inuyasha in his mothers hold looking in the water while my younger self sat beside them leaning on her arm my eyes shut. “I was there as well though I have only very vague memories that are becoming clearer slowly”


“You remember, that’s good as a child I often held you that way.” I had stood up at this time and both of us were looking at her over our shoulders as she held us. “I held you both to my heart just as I am now.” We then both turned in her hold and I slid my arms around her neck as I rested my head on her collarbone my eyes drifting shut. “I’ll never let go, not now, not ever!” I felt my body weakening as sleep came upon me more, my instincts were telling me to get far away but I felt to safe to listen to them and my eyes slid shut my ears relaxing to her touch.


“Uh, mother” I heard Inuyasha through the dimness in my mind as I faded more in to the darkness of my mind and sleep. I felt myself being drawn in to warmth and I relaxed fully trusting the one my memories said had always protected me from harm. I could feel she was focusing on Inuyasha at this moment through my senses and I relaxed further ignoring the burning feeling of not being able to breath and let myself fully go feeling as though I was slowly fading my mind dimming.


I then felt Inuyasha leave and in my dimming mind wandered were he would go. I then felt myself pulled further in to the darkness. :Shade!: I felt my ears weakly twitch towards the noise but paid no other attention to it as my mind faded away to the last stubborn strings of life that were slowly unravelling -Go to sleep young one- I sighed as I curled up :Snap out of it!: My face twitched as I heard his voice ~Inuyasha?~ my fading mind woke up a little at his voice and began to stir -Ignore it and sleep- but now I had heard Inuyasha’s voice I began to struggle against the warmth and comfort.


Then light burst out in front of me and I landed on something alive and warm my body limp and my eyes closed. “The un-mother, protected him even as she was absorbing the other.” I ever so slowly moved my hand not that it was noticed. “Is she alright Inuyasha?” I felt myself turned and held up, my body still limp though my ears had begun to move “Shade?” I then slowly moved my arm and grabbed one of the hands holding mine as my eyes fluttered open.


“You ok?” I looked up slowly at Kagome my face unreadable as I began to move myself out of Inuyasha’s hold and turn around. “My children.” I looked round at the un-mother my strength gaining every minute. Both me and Inuyasha looked at her both not knowing what to say when I looked up and gasped as Sesshomaru destroyed the face of the mother Inuyasha’s gasp in my ears. “Hey you!” I looked up at Inuyasha’s brother my jaw clenched.


She may not have been my mother but she had reminded me of the love a mother could give. “Kagomi don’t or he will kill us both!” I then stood up ignoring them all and rushed at Sesshomaru and swiped at him. I just missed him when his arm came up and grabbed me by the throat holding me up effortlessly as he turned his attention to Inuyasha and the others. “Jaken.” I opened my eyes my hands gripping his hand that held my throat in a tight grip. “Jaken!”


I glared at him with all I could muster though he ignored me “Ie me lord!” I looked down at the creature and blinked at the demon in confusion. “Lord Sesshomaru the staff of skulls is ours once more!” I watched from my unwanted position as Sesshomaru grabbed the staff and then looked at the black pearl he held next to my throat as he gave a smirk “At last the moment has come.” I then felt him drop the pearl as he readjusted his grip on me making me growl quietly.


He then lifted the staff and brought it down on the pearl and my ears went back as eerie laughter sounded. “The old man laughs it means the tomb will open!” I narrowed my eyes to the bright light as I looked over to Inuyasha and Kagome who both looked a bit worried. Then with a flash the pearl disappeared and a portal appeared in front of us. Then Sesshomaru chucked me back on to Inuyasha knocking on his back as they went through the portal.


Growling I moved off him and ran towards the portal and jumped in it disappearing from their view. I then came out in the sky of the portal and fell on to a bird skeleton that took me deep inside the bones of the giant to I knew Sesshomaru was. I got off the back of the creature and moved as quietly as I could to the edge of the drop and saw Sesshomaru standing in front of a brown table like thing which had something long and thin embedded in it.


“Here is what I have sort, at last I shall take possession of the sacred sword, the lethal legendary blade known to kill 100 in one stroke, Tetsusaiga.” I then saw him reach out for the sword. I looked down and then back at him before jumping over the edge of the ridge, hopping from each level until I had reached the skull covered floor where I turned my attention back on Sesshomaru as I glared at him.


“They say it was forged from the fang from your fathers own mouth, once you possess the blade Tetsusaiga you possess his power as well!” Then the blade sparked and Sesshomaru let go as quick as he could, I smirked at this and took a step forward. “You cannot touch it.” His attention turned to me as Jekin scowled at me “Why not? Lord Sesshomaru is the one who should get the Tetsusaiga!” I raised an eyebrow at him “Does he have any human blood in him at all? No? well then he cannot touch it.” Sesshomaru look vaguely annoyed at that as he looked back at the sword.


“Sesshomaru!” I turned my head slightly and looked back at Inuyasha and Kagomi. “Were not finished yet!” I put my hand up to my head as I groaned at his idiotic ness as he lunged at his brother and missed crashing in to the bones with a grunt. “Now where he go!” I looked up across from me at Sesshomaru who was looking annoyed at Inuyasha for being there. “Be more respectful, Its our fathers tomb.” I let out a breath as Kagome landed beside me.


“Look who’s talking! You’re the one who’s here robbing his grave, why not respect him by leaving!” While those two were arguing I was moving over to the sword curious at it even though pieces of information had flitted through my mind before. “Lord Inuyasha look back! look back!” “Where? How come?” I looked over at him as he turned “There do you see it? The blade from your fathers fang, Tetsusaiga!” I looked back at the sword and got on to the platform my ears pricked forward “Huh! What you mean this?” Inuyasha had got close to the platform, I turned my head to him “What a piece of junk! Tetsusaiga what? It would not even cut paper wet!” I snorted at his sarcastic voice “Inuyasha, you must draw the sword! Please. Sesshomaru you could not pull it out could you!” I snorted at this “He has no human blood so he can’t pull it out.”


I felt them look at me when I said this “Do you mean to say Inuyasha can?” I looked up at Sesshomaru a glare on my face “I could pull it out, I’m a half not a whole.” I looked back at the sword “Claim the sword Inuyasha it was more than likely entrusted to you, it’s your inheritance.” I looked over at him as I said this “What entrusted? What inheritance? for all I care he can keep the rusty piece of junk!” I saw Inuyasha look annoyed with us both as I sighed and looked back at the sword as he turned to his brother. “What I do mind though is all the other stuff, good thing your in a grave for your going to die!” I sighed and looked back at the sword and reached out and ran a finger down the hilt ignoring the two who were fighting.


It was only as he came up beside me, I turned my head to look at him my face unreadable as he grabbed the hilt of the sword “This is going to be more fun than I thought!” My eyes narrowed as he began pulling ~He can’t pull it out, he’s too much demon than human to pull it out.~ The sword then began to light up at the bottom I na circle formation.


“Pull harder! Draw it out!” I looked out the corner of my eye at Kagome who had her fists clenched as she watched Inuyasha. My attention then turned back to Inuyasha who was pulling as hard as he could his eyes and jaw clenched as he pulled as he could. Then the light faded and I blinked my eyes hurting a little from the bright light. “What?” She sounded so shocked while Jaken just dropped his jaw in disbelief. “Yo” I looked in amusement at Inuyasha who looked extremely ticked of and began to squash Meyoga “Yes?” Meyoga looked worried as Inuyasha squashed him.


“I could not pull the sword out. Could I?” I snorted as I turned partly to look at Sesshomaru. “Are you done?” My eyes widened as I moved to the side of the platform Sesshomaru’s face stony. “I am” Then he moved to attack Inuyasha though he missed and chased after him eventually slamming him in to the wall “I do not think you have met my poison claws” I then gasped sighlently as Inuyasha moved just as Sesshomaru’s claws touched the bone wall and melted it.


Then they were running around Inuyasha’s brother who was trying to hit Inuyasha all the while. When suddenly Inuyasha crashed in to the ground by his brothers whip “Don’t worry mi lord its all taken care uhh.” I looked over and snorted in laughter as Kagome jumped down on Jaken, I then ran over next to her. “You coward!” “Why you!” Then as Jaken was about to attack Kagome I went in front of her. “You stinking toad!” I grabbed a hold of the staff holding it back “Stinking human wait until I get you!” Then I was thrown in to her and knocking Kagome on to the platform that had the sword.


I then looked over at Inuyasha and took a step forward my face worried when a weight fell in to my back “Oops!” I blinked and looked back at her as Kagome was holding a certain sword. I then turned to her “It just came out.” I then took the sword and blinked at it my face had a small smile on it. “Sorry” I then put a hand on her shoulder making her look up at me “Does not matter.”
