New Ruler

Title: New Ruler

Author: Kimisan/Aoshis_toy

Theme: #7. Awakening

Warnings: None

“Oh my, is he going to be alright?” Botan placed a hand upon the man’s forehead. It was clammy and cold to the touch. How could this be happening? She didn’t want to believe it. Her eyes were playing tricks on her. Koenma refused to move from his spot upon the tiled floor. Had he fainted from shock? “What are we going to do?”

“There is nothing we can do but wait for him to wake.” Kurama kept his eyes on the large screen until Yomi and Shura departed from the fast filling battle field. Gawkers were coming from miles around to witness what was left of King Enma. It was astonishing how the man had taken the former ruler down so effortlessly and walked away without so much as a scratch upon himself. The man should have known and planned better than this. The dragon would be a force to reckon with without getting him angry. Instinct itself would cause great anger when his mate was threatened. Plus, the girl’s life was connected to his own. Enma might as well attacked the dragon directly. The results would have been the same.

Yusuke couldn’t believe that Enma was dead, killed by a youkai. How would Koenma react upon waking? The man had passed out the second his father had lost his head. Things didn’t look too good for them right now. Panic was already setting in the small room as Jorge fidgeted beside the ferry girl. Only Kurama yelling at him made the ogre stay put. They didn’t need him running out of the room shouting that their employer and ruler was headless. He just hoped Koenma would be able to take charge once he woke up.

The water rippled as the dragon eased his body into the hot depths. Kagome didn’t move from her spot on the step. The water was up to her chest in her sitting position and she was loath to move. It felt too good on her aching muscles. Nothing could help her state of mind though. The death of Enma had been too real to accept. He was someone that couldn’t die, wasn’t he? Yet the dragon was making his way towards her. It meant he had lived and the other man had failed. What she couldn’t understand is why he had attacked her? Did he blame her for this mess? Yes, it was true she was the jewel’s guardian. It was their fault for assuring her that no one would be able to use the damned thing. They shouldn’t have lied and done things half assed. What could she do now?

As much as she wanted to pull away she wasn’t in the mood for one of his tantrums if she disobeyed. Instead she allowed him to sit down beside her then moved onto his lap as the hands pulled her back. Her only compensation was that the water felt wonderful, just the right temperature. A chill ran down her spine as he rubbed the length of her arms. The face nuzzled in her neck before a chaste kiss was placed upon the bare skin. Washing had been her first priority when he informed her that they would be heading to the washroom. Now as she sat upon his lap in the large bathing pool, she just wanted to relax.

“How do you feel?” He reached for the wash towel located in the basket. There was an assortment of scented soaps to chose from. His hand by passed those to grab the unscented. As much as the other smells were pleasant he didn’t wish to cover up her natural scent. The long mass of hair was pushed aside so he could start on her back. She seemed tense and absent-minded. He didn’t care for the vacant look in her eyes either. Was it an after effect of what Enma had tried to do? Pride filled him at the strength she’d shown today. He’d been shocked at the bold move and had moved too slow. If she’d been weak, she would have instantly lost her soul. So fitting to be his mate and lover. It still angered him that he’d come close to losing her. The next person that so much as looked at her wrong would pay dearly.

“Tired, I don’t even feel like moving.” Kagome hoped he’d take the hint and allow her to sleep tonight. She really didn’t have the energy to do anything. After last night and the occurrence today she felt wiped. Would he try to bed her again? If so all she’d be able to manage was lay there like a limp doll. Her stomach growled as he scrubbed her shoulders. Perhaps if she asked nicely he’d let her pass out. “May I go lay down after we are done here?”

“No, you may not. You will head to the room and wait for food to be brought up. After you have eaten then you may get some sleep. I have a few things to attend to tonight so you may catch up on your rest. I will be displeased to find out that you did not eat. Do not worry I will have them send up something to your liking.” He turned her around to face him. Her legs straddled his hips as she gnawed on her bottom lip. Was she worried about something? He smiled when the weary blue eyes darted down to look under the steaming water. They lingered on the erection before she looked away. “Do not fret, I will not touch you now. I’ll allow you to recover before doing so.”

She nodded and hoped he meant it. The hands lingered over her breasts longer than necessary as he washed her. A sigh of relief escaped her as he told her to stand up. The cleaning of her legs took only a few seconds before his soapy fingers ran over her mound. His face was pulled into a tight line as he finished up the task of making sure she was clean. A harsh order demanding that she sit back down and rinse off had her plopping down in the water ungracefully. Her own hands made sure all the soap was removed. With a jerk of his head she was told to dry off, get dressed and head to the bedroom. Without waiting to see what he was going to do she climbed out. The room was deathly quiet as she toweled herself dry and pulled on the night gown. The blue robe was pulled around her tight as she walked out of the door.

Kurama watched the man begin to stir hours later. Some of the tension eased in the room as Koenma moaned. He could only guess at what was different about him. The prince had passed out in his toddler form but somewhere during his slumber he’d changed into his older one. Whether it was self conscious or caused for another reason the fox was unsure of. There was no mistaking the other changes as well. A boost of power had erupted around him as well. Nothing like the dragon had been putting out but it was impressive for their employer. The mark on his forehead was gone as well. The sign stating him as Jr. had slowly disappeared as the man slept.

Koenma felt like hell as his eyes slowly pried open. The first thing he saw was Botan’s worried face. He groaned as the woman threw herself on him. Tears welled up in his eyes as his memory came back. While the others asked if he was okay, his mind searched for the proof. He’d seen his father being killed then he’d blacked out. So it had happened, just like his father had forewarned him. Right before blacking out he’d felt the power consume him. While he wasn’t trying to maintain any form, his body was in an adult stage. Due to his father’s death he was now considered ruler and king. The death had caused his spirit to mature and take over the role. It was his whether he wanted it or not.

“You look different sir.” Botan reached out to touch the missing mark. What was going on? Could Enma truly be gone? That meant all the responsibility now rested upon Koenma’s shoulders. As the man rose with the help of Yusuke, the door slid open to reveal a pale Jorge.

“He’s here Koenma. What shall we do? He’s at the front gate demanding to speak to you. Should we send him away or call out the SDF? I don’t want to die, I’m too young. I’ve never got to host my own television show.” Jorge stammered as he stared at his boss. “Please, don’t make me escort him in.”

Koenma walked over to the desk and hit the monitor. The image shifted on the large screen to focus on the front of the gate. Brown eyes narrowed seeing the dragon casually waiting to be let in. At least the man hadn’t broken in. They were defenseless at this point in time and the dragon knew it. With his father’s death things weren’t prepared if he did decide to attack. It was best to see what the man wanted without causing a fight. “Let him in, Botan please escort him here.”

“Why me?! You can’t be serious Koenma.” She watched as the double doors opened up for the foul beast. Groaning she knew he meant for her to do it. The two males in the room gave her a worried look but she walked on out. Thankfully the man was already halfway to the room by the time she met up with him. He didn’t bother to acknowledge her presence but kept walking. So much for her escorting him.

“You two leave. I wish to speak to him alone.” Koenma saw them about to protest but a wave of his hand told them he wouldn’t hear another word. Yusuke gave him a fleeting look before walking on out. He’d face the man alone, it was his duty. The dragon might not fall today but some day he’d meet his end. As he sat down in his chair the door slid open to reveal a red faced Botan and Ryuukossei. “Come in.”

Ryu was glad when the annoying female let the door close between them. If Kagome was that annoying he’d have killed her despite it ending his own life. He was tempted to tear her head off. Blood red eyes roamed over the young man sitting in the seat. Time to get this over with so he could head back and climb into bed with his woman. “I doubt you are in the mood for pleasantries. Hard to be friendly towards the man that just devoured your father. Yes, I can see your anger. I’ll make my case clear so we can get this over with. I see that you have descended to your new rank. Your new powers may have been awakened but you are still no match for me.”

“Tell me something I don’t already know. Just like you I have things to attend to. What you have done has left the Reikai in a horrible state. Say what you came to say and be on your way.” Koenma refused to cower before him. The man could kill him easily but that would change nothing. He was now the Ruler of the Reikai, he would be strong for his people. Somehow he doubted the man had came all this way just to take him out as well. Hatred filled him for the dragon but to die in vain wouldn’t avenge his father’s murder. He would find a way to bring the man down.

“Well said, so be it. I had no intentions of attacking the Reikai. Your father brought his death upon himself. He was foolish enough to oppose me. I merely came to inform you that as things stand I will leave the Reikai alone. Just don’t start having grande delusions like Daddy Dearest and we’ll get along fine. One last warning, one your father didn’t receive. Come near the girl and I will tear off your arms and shove them up your ass before I eat your still beating heart. Learn from your father’s mistakes Koenma. Kagome belongs to me and I keep what is mine. Don’t think to kill me through her. If someone that so much as stinks of the Reikai comes within a mile a her, I’ll be back up here and it won’t be on a social call. Do I make myself clear?” He took a menacing step forward as Koenma stood.

“Crystal, now get out of my office.” Koenma had to control his anger as the dragon smiled. His patience was thin and he had a few things to take care of. He’d have to see about a service for his father. Then once everything was back on track he’d start finding out what he could about his newest and most hated enemy.
